    This video helped clear a lot of confusion I had when I first started shrimping, showed me a few types of neos I didn’t know were out there. Also taught me how some of these colour variants came to be.
    Now I keep bloody marys, black rose, regular cherrys, and blue velvets, now I realize after my first batches of baby’s some are gunna be a nightmare to cull but so worth it.
    And now coming back to this video and seeing this chart again I’m gunna need to get my hands on some green jades and yellows!

    After watching this video updates and previous video about this line chart of color, now I realize why pureline colors on every animal which keep as pet, have not only higher, but can be really expensive

    I promise I'll keep my shrimp clean and happy and my tank clean and happy, but I can't promise that I'll keep my mind clean. Hopefully I'll keep it happy, but clean may be asking too much.

    My blue dreams produced what looks like a carbon rili with extra "clear" bands. What would you call that?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A "cull" but perhaps a blue rili is the closest thing in the hobby? Or a sky blue and navy rili if it's 2 blue tones

    So is it possible for a fire red shrimp tank to have blue dream shrimp periodically?? I breed blue dream too, but don't use same nets or anything between tanks.

    Is it possible to breed bloody Mary and yellow sakura
    If its possible what will be produced by that crossing

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you can mix them, however you will likely get a light yellow, or patchy red f.1 generation... maybe orange...then gen 2 (f2) will likely be clear and speckled with mixed color and by f3 they will look pretty similar to wild shrimp pretty much

    I purchased 20 blue velvets from a hobbyist but I am not super impressed with the color. Should I leave all the females and cull the worst of the males?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes but if you want even better results cull poor females... I have a mixed tank just for that and a nursery tank for pregnant females of all colors...no males allowed, then i move them back when they're 1/3 to 1/2 inch so the fish dont eat em

    I have a 16 gallon tank, black sand substrate, and many plants with a colony of Bloody Mary shrimp. Their color varies from dark red, to a few dull pale pink adults. Do you know what may be causing the dull pale pink adults?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several possibilities. 1. they are not being removed or culled...like when you see babies that are lesser quality remove them because theyll throw off the other shrimp's genes. I do this every week or so and just have 2 tanks...sometimes the cull tank makes pretty ones l, but I dont breed those with my grade A tank because they will likely make poor quality offspring.
      2. secondly, they may just be molting and look all pink and funky/blotchy and speckled in color until they get their new undershell to be the outside one, and their old one to sluff off.
      3. If the first 2 dont sound correct, you may need more calcium in your water...higher gh or kh...id add some crushed coral or even just cuttlebone sold at petco for birds to sharpen their beaks for like 3 bucks a piece (you can break off a few grams and crush it up and sprinkle it into the HOB, or add it to the substrate. Also you can find lots of shrimp food with all these color enhancing vitamins and calcium built in....if you want the best level for show grade improvement id check out flipaquatics.com my friend Rob owns FLIP and they carry a great selection of shrimp AND probiotics/leaves, meds and tools that arent at most stores. If you shop there use the coupon History10 for an extra 10% discount on all items...and mention the channel...if you order shrimp also, they toss in 1 to 3 extras often times.
      Good luck my friend and thanks for watching!

      @@Fishtory Thank you so much for your reply. It is very much appreciated. I love your videos, btw, they are very helpful and informative. I haven't been removing, or culling my tank. I purchased my original 10 Bloody Mary shrimp from Flip Aquatics. They were beautiful dark red when I received them. Gorgeous and healthy! Any additional shrimp in my tank are babies from the 10 original. I haven't removed any shrimp, trying to build up the colony. I am not going to breed them for sale, just for my own enjoyment. I initially thought the pink color was due to molting, but the big one has been dull pink for months. I have others that are a dull darker pink and some that are beautiful dark red. I use well water, which is high in minerals, but does go through our house filter and water softener. Is there a test for calcium that I could do before adding calcium to the tank? I use the tetra strips to test the water and it has been a consistent PH 7.2, Nitrate 5 ppm, KH 150-180 ppm, and GH 25 ppm (because of the water softener). I keep lowering the water heater but is seems to always keep the water temperature at 79 no matter what it is set on. I feed them every other day, and rotate with Shrimp King Complete, Bacter AE, and Snow Flake. I see TH-cam videos with tanks full of beautiful dark red Bloody Mary shrimp and wish mine were so beautiful. I am really hoping that their pink color is something I am doing wrong, instead of a result of me not culling. I have another fish tank that I could put them in, but then my colony would be soooo small. It is small already.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      they could also have too much calcium, but yes API makes a calcium test... your gh and specifically kh should indicate somewhat where your calcium level is also

      @@Fishtory I got my calcium test. It measured below 20 mg/L (ppm) Ca2. The test doesn't tell how much below. Thank you so much for pointing me in the correct direction. My tank's GH is 60 mg/L (ppm) (CaCO3) and KH is 150 mg/L (ppm) (CaCO3). I have crushed coral and a little sash that I can put into my HOB filter. Do you think that should solve the problem?

    I got a tank with fire reds with schoko,chocolate. What wil thr offspring be like?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      likely wild looking culls, darker striped and clear banding. However you may be able to select a carbon or bloody mary if you get any darker reds and seperate them.... possibly even blue velvets if the shoko line has that genetic trait dormant... either way the dark reds, blacks and the (non blue dream) blue variants are theoretically possible.
      Good luck, and let me know!

    I have about 10 blue dream shrimp (completely colored) that I mixed with about 20 RCS (females are vibrant red but legs and antenna are translucent) anyone know if breed will "regress?

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it depends on where they were bred (shoko line or red lines to get to blue)...usually you get a few really cool half blue and red or rili red shrimp...sometimes even blue and red with slight purple (only for one generation then theyll likley turn clear and pink or tan sadly)

    the point i get is.... interbreed is possible for refresh the gene... but wild shrimp also possible to produce in that process...
    so... the solution is selective breeding...
    people out there... talk about do not to crossbreed... and can't to interbreed because you will get a wild ugly shrimp.... and noob asking.. so how to make my shrimp still exist with fresh gene... keep inbreeding??? come on man...
    please simply told... you can inter-crossbreed as long you selective on the babies...
