Here's Why Eddie Van Halen Buried His Iconic Guitar With Dimebag Darrell

- Rock and roll guitar solos are modern one-person symphonies, and two of the greatest guitar soloist are Eddie Van Halen and Dimebag Darrell. The sound of their respective bands Van Halen and Pantera have been shaped by their guitar mastery.
Sadly, both of these rock legends are not around anymore. Darrell was shot in 2004 and Van Halen recently passed away after years of struggling with cancer. But both of their legendary music and performances will live on.
Van Halen and Darrell actually knew each other for a few weeks before Darrell was tragically shot by a fan during one of his concerts. The two actually got really close before Darrell's death and Van Halen even buried his iconic guitar with Darrell.

Where's Randy?
There's going to be one great gig in the sky tonight
Dimebag was a MASSIVE Van Halen fan. So it shows how much Eddie respected Dime
Facts
Growing up i heard a few of his songs here and there. When Van Halen died and it went all over the world I went and looked up some of his songs. This dude had some major talent. Its like 2020 got us down and then kept kicking us.
All those running stretches all over the neck are pure Van Halen, but revised in dimebag fashion. You notice it big time when learning both their songs.
Maby not if the flag but defiantly a fan of his playing
@@k.t.1641 Yeah, there are many EVH influences in dime's playing, but somehow dime made it his own and ruled. That's what made him the best.
Vinny said in an interview after the funeral, that if Darrell had known he was going to get buried with that guitar he would have wanted to die earlier. This act of Love made me Love Eddie even more than I did

Sorta, he said Dime would have said "kill me now."

Fun relatively known fact: Both Eddie and Dime started out playing drums until they saw how good their brothers were and decided to switch to guitar.
The Abbott brothers played brass, I want to say before anything.
That’s not exactly correct but it’s relatively close. 👍🏻
@@southerntrendkiller2632 yeah, I read it in a guitar magazine interview with big Vin years ago. I'll have to dig it out and re-read it before I spread misinformation. Love the name brother. 🤘
electric fil yup. I didn’t want that to come off like I was being a prick but it doesn’t really matter. Both of these icons have come and now gone. As he didn’t want to see Dime in the casket, it was Zakk Wylde who placed the guitar there.
😢
I once worked in a coin shop which bought precious metals from people as a side business. Jewelry, family silver, etc.). I got a call one day from someone who had a "bucket of dental gold" he would like us to evaluate and purchase. We refused.
Odds are he worked at a funeral home or crematorium. Odds are also that Dimebag's casket (were it unearthed) contains no EVH guitar.
I've thought Eddie placed the guitar in the casket himself, but that's ok, as long as it's buried with him...respect. RIP to EVH and Dimebag Darryl. 😭🙏
@@TuckFrump-r9h I kinda doubt that that would be possible with Dimebag, since he was a very important person and I don't think anyone had the guts to take the guitar away. But idk how that works. I try to imagine they couldn't.

Total class
That was a beautiful gesture by Eddie Van Halen, and he`s jamming with Darrell and Vinny right now.........R.I.P......You were all amazing human beings !!!!
I think the fact that Eddie did that is so cool on so many levels.
Van Halen 1 came out the same year I was born 1978, and I have loved Van Halen ever since I can remember big time. I had just started middle school when Pantera put out Cowboys From Hell back in 1990, and I have loved Pantera ever since big time. Eddie Van Halen in my opinion is the greatest guitar player ever, and he changed the world forever when Van Halen 1 came out. Dimebag Darrell in my opinion is the last guitar player to be a huge influence on many guitar players and bands. I never got to see Van Halen in concert, but I was lucky enough to see Pantera three times in the mid 90's all the way up to 2000. Both Eddie Van Halen and Dimebag deserve the respect and recognition that they get. Van Halen could never continue without Eddie Van Halen, and Pantera could never continue without Dimebag. They were both that extremely important to their bands. Their music will live on forever because it is way too Iconic. Rest In Peace Eddie Van Halen and Dimebag Darrell!! Thank you so much for the PHENOMENAL music you gave us.
Kudos to Eddie for giving up a valuable guitar like that. I once put a stage used Gary Rossington guitar pick in my friend’s casket. It was one of the hardest things I ever did, but he joked that he wanted to be buried with it so I made it happen.

They're both trading solos in heaven right now. R.I.P Eddie and Dimebag.
Dimebag and Vinnie are buried side by side not far from where I live, and having gotten my start with VH with the second album, it's a bit odd for me to think that "that" guitar is down there. One thing I've noticed on my visits is that you typically don't get much time alone, as there's a semi-steady flow of fans parking and making the walk to their final resting places to pay their respects.
For those whose sensibilities are in that direction, Amber Hagerman is buried in the same cemetery. You may not know who she was, but those alerts you get about missing children bear her name.
Interesting fact, I didn’t know she was buried there.
slamtimeson I only met them once, I’ve was fortunate enough to have them autograph my bicep on my CFH brand logo and got both tattooed. So I can say I got a little piece of them with me till I die
I hope the cemetery is well guarded, I'm sure there are scumbags that would try to steal the guitar that's buried with Dimebag.
@@davidcobb2693 Dude, that crypt is sealed with so much cement and iron rods that it would wake up the entire city if someone tried to rob that guitar. Forget about it, Eddie Van Halen's axe is sealed there for eternity.
@@ConqueringWeightLoss relax bro, I'm not a grave robber and I'm not familiar with the cemetery he and EVH's axe are buried, I'm familiar with the oldest cemetery in my home town that's over 200 years old that has a large number of Civil War veterans from both sides buried in it. Several years ago there were reports of headstones and markers for CSA veterans being stolen as well as ones for Union soldiers. I visited Jimi Hendrix's grave site 30 years before he was reburied under the monument his father had constructed. I was very young at the time, 1972, and all that was there was a simple, small marker.
Wow...just wow. EVH a true legend and lived his life for music as DD did. What a gesture.

When people are killed by a mentally unstable person whether it be Dimebag or a mass shooting, we need to say that mental illness was the killer, not the perpetrator. Only someone taken over by darkness can be driven to those extreme actions. What's more, talking about them in the media only feeds into their fantasy for many of them, and they hope they will be glorified.
Let's hold the media accountable, put some tax dollars into treating mental illness, and start reaching out to those around us who are having a hard time, no matter what.
