      Absolutely man.. Dude had such positive energy and life in him, it just still kinda feels like he's around even though it's been nearly 12 yrs. I got into Pantera young when I came across my dad's cds.. I always wanted to see them live badly, but wasn't old enough before they split. My first concerts were Primus, Ozzfest, & the Jager Music Tour (Killswitch, Mastodon, Slayer) in 04; since Pantera split I wanted to see Damageplan even though I wasn't as big on them as Pantera. Then I found out the morning of the 9th before school that he was killed, and was devastated. My biggest influence learning/playing guitar was gone, and I'd never see him perform live. And it just was hard to believe knowing how good of a dude he was by watching vids of him at cd releases, signings, watching Pantera's vulgar home videos countless times, etc. Won't keep rambling haha but it's a damn shame that scumbag pointlessly killed such a great dude & 3 others, plus those who witnessed it and live with that forever. Famous people as fun loving & down to earth as Dime are rare, can't think of anyone since him who's as loyal to fans and just loved people in general.

    I've always liked how off-the-cuff and innovative Dime's riffs were. Very few guitarists are carrying on the tradition of writing solid, catchy, Sabbath-esque riffs. The way he combines single-note riffs, muting, whammy bar dips, chord slides, string bends, harmonics, etc. -- it all comes together to create some great, powerhouse riffs. Makes me wonder how much more great music Dime would have put out if he were still alive today.

      6672rock I would name Dime the #1 metal guitarist of all time any day of the week. He was an original, like EVH.... As soon as you hear him playing anything you know instantly it's him because like EVH he can only sound like himself no matter what song it is. Another thing about him.... He was a really humble guy and honestly wanted others to benefit from anything at all he could teach. I had the opportunity to talk with him during the VDOP tour and he was all too happy to show you stuff and he even let me try it on his own guitar that he had.

    • @ShawnJonesHellion
      @ShawnJonesHellion 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uhh. Pretty sure those 2 good albums he did were followed up by quite a few cds that were flops. Like megadeth recovered after one bad cd. Bands who make 4 bad cds in a row then members go on to make however many shitty cds in bands like damageplan aren't making any new good ever again.

    • @deathstroke3465
      @deathstroke3465 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@IamEskimoPie i once saw a clip where a guy explains how you tune the guitar the way you play it, so if you hit the string more aggressive when you play, that's the way you hit them when you tune. a lot of people pluck gently when tuning, but hit hard when they play and it can actually cause the guitar to be slightly out of tune because of the dynamic. that mostly wouldn't be an issue on standard tuning but since pantera already uses a quarter step down tuning, that small difference can be felt more if you really wanna be accurate. Now i don't know if the OP was referring to that or something else... But that's the only thing i can think of. I actually tried it out first time i saw that clip and the tuner does show a slightly different value when hitting the note harder or softer.

    I was never a huge Pantera fan but I respect Dimebag to the utmost. I honestly respect him even more now after watching this because it makes us realize that no matter how much of a guitar God any one can be, we are all still human. The guy playing on a fucked-up practice amp reminds me of myself LOL... watching him demonstrate his riffs and even make mistakes but just keeps going. His advice about taking a riff that sounds good and going with it honestly makes me feel better because I spend so much time thinking about music theory... there is so many times when I come up with something only to shoot it down because it doesn't fit within a certain "pattern" or key.... watching a video and getting a private lesson like this... it's probably the most Sage advice I have ever came across...

    It gave me chills when Dime locked in with his brother on slow breakdown. Vinnie and Dime had perfect rhythm and when the two locked in it was amazing. I love when Dime would stand in front of Vinnie when This Love got to the slow breakdown. Vinnie and Dime are revolutionary. I was reading an interview from Drummer World where Vinnie talks about when Dime heard the tom groove to Primal Concrete Sledge. Dime's guitar was very much drum based. I miss their music bond. Dime and Vinnie had a spiritual bond that flowed into Pantera's music. I will always love to watch Pantera's concerts on TH-cam. R.I.P Dime.

      @@swimssnakeyadventures9127 Actually he's nowhere remotely close to EVH but nobody is . The true undisputed King , the most famous guitarists or all time list EVH as their # 1 influence including Paul Gilbert , Jason Becker, Nuno , michael Schenker to name just a few . Darrell is just one of the millions who was massively influenced by EVH . Randy Rhoads adored EVH , listen to what Rudy Sarzo said:
      GW: What were Randy’s main influences?
      Sarzo: His influences were late-’60s, early-’70s English rock guitar players. He didn’t have any R&B influence or anything, so it’s totally English. And classical music because of his schooling. His mother had a lot to do with that, teaching him and influencing him with classical music. So by the time he got to England, he was not like a typical American guitar player who had had the influence of R&B music and country music, because he’d never played that.
      GW: Were there any particular players he admired?
      Sarzzo: Yeah, let me tell you who they were. He really admired Gary Moore and Eddie Van Halen. Those were his top two guys he really, really admired.
      Nobody comes remotely close to EVH's rhythm and swing , NOBODY.
      Listen to what Pat Metheny said: “ i think i've talked about how much i like allan in here before (you can do a search on his name).... but eddie, i don't think i have. i really think he is a great player and someone i always enjoy hearing. there was a time i went to vh shows as much as possible just to check him out. one time, i got to go back before a show and hear him warm up - which was absolutely mind blowing - he played more incredible music in that 30 minutes of warmup time than he did in the all the vh "shows" that i heard rolled together. he is so creative - it would be great to hear him expand into other areas - especially now that "heavy metal" is about as dead as it could possibly be (who would have thought that that would happen in 1984?) eddie is more like a jazz guy anyway to me - he is always searching for sounds and ideas it seems.”
