Urban exploring Île Plate lighthouse, Mauritius

Filmed on the 23rd of October, 2022 in Trou-aux-Biches and Île Plate, Mauritius
(Mostly) Jonas organized a boat trip to the northern islands. We tried our best to visit all three islands you can set foot on: Coin de Mire, Îlot Gabriel, and Île Plate, but all the boat people said no. So we made a more standard trip where you see many islands but only land on one.
15 other people joined us, most of them had fun swimming, snorkeling, and beaching.
Jonas and I decided to do the hike to the lighthouse. You can find the hiking trail on OpenStreetMaps. The gate was open, so we entered the premises and checked out the lighthouse from the inside. Of course, we didn't touch any of the stuff inside and we left the place how we found it. The same goes for the abandoned colonial-era sugar mill we found on the way back.
After the hike, we still had time for a short swim and then it was time to sail back to Mauritius.

What you think might be an old sugar mill is an old desalination unit used to boil seawater to make drinking water with associated storage tanks outside which would also be used to collect rainwater.
