  • Sugar has been the life of Mauritius, could be its death. 90% of the Islands exports sugar or sugar by-products, and most of that is paid for by Britain under the Commonwealth sugar agreement which is now threatened by negotiations thousands of miles away between Britain and Commonwealth countries.
    Reporter John Morgan investigates.

Fortunately we have diversified our economy now. But being a small island state, we are affected by all the geopolitical tremors of the present times. We have been quite successful up to now.

It did look like a very nice tourist destination.
I know people who have visited there, and spoke highly of it.

Very much so, we went for a week back in 2018 and it was lovely. A bit expensive for South Africans like me, but a lovely place nonetheless.

Worthy upload. Many thanks, very interesting view of the turning page ,now in 2024 mauritius did become similar to cuba.in april 2024 paul berenger disrupted politics yet again.i never knew he was rotten and untrustworthy from the beginning.in the recent years without covid19 involvement there is a mass exodus of the mauritian youth like back then in the 70s as the island falls lower in the mess iy started in the 70s.i liked seeing the truth of how simple minded they were and why mauritius is now where it is.

Where there is life, there is no death: reinvention and rejuvenation of which Mauritius is an excellent example!

SGD wasnt, his analysis was unbiased, he said what was the reality, and still saw the opportunity behind the disaster.

Neighbouring island remains a part of France departemnet 974. Mauritius wanted independance from GB. Did Mauritius see the consequences of going it alone?

Well, not long later they slowed up the sugar production and traded it for tourism. Now that tourism may never be the same again post covid, they are a bit up shit creak....
