      @@faerie4eva Thank you very much!! I use Polychromos, Lyra Rembrandt and Kohinoor Polycolor, drawing landscapes mainly. I just ordered the Fabriano Artistico yesterday, I guess I'll end up getting the Stonehenge too. Thanks for the response! :)

    My preferred choice for portraits is Bristol smooth. I don't use OMS so this paper is perfect for me. For wildlife i prefer pastelmat, mainly because that allows me to layer light over dark, perfect for fur.

      Ok thanks for telling. But Is pastelmat good for not smooth hair?... I will not make the hair in my drawing smooth. And I think Bristol board it good for smooth hair.

    I love the effect the vibrancy and blend from the pastel mat paper. What paper do you recommend to use solvent on? I’ve attempted Windsor and Newton pro marker paper, as it was the mat I initially started with and refuse to waste paper, however, the paper seems to become wavy, if you know what I mean lol

    You’ve linked the smooth Strathmore Bristol paper. Have you tried Vellum Bristol? It’s a lot more textured so it might give you some more layers

    Thank you so much for this video, it was super helpful. So far I've only tried coloured pencils on sketch paper and water colour paper, and couldn't understand why the texture of the paper wasn't helping me 😅😅
    I enjoyed seeing your side by side comparisons, and your insight was really valuable.

    I'm new to your channel and love your tutorials. I just started a drawing on hot press watercolor paper 300# Arches ( because it was in my scrap pile and I'm a watercolor artist!). I have bristol board paper....smooth and vellum. Which one is best? It's not the brand you mentioned but I'll need to use it before investing in another brand. I've been into watercolor for 9 years and now branching out to color pencils, pastels...both oil and soft and charcoal drawing. Thank you so much for your channel.

      It's very much personal preference. I only draw on smooth paper, and would always pick smooth over vellum. It's definitely worth trying both though and seeing which you prefer 🙂

    Interesting, I had just begun searching on some Arches 140lb hot press paper and was not liking it at all. I’ll have to see about picking up the Bristol board and giving that a try.

    Hi Gemma, do you have any advice for paper warping while using polychromos? I am using the tan strath more. Small drawings are fine, however the bigger drawings seem to curl upwards.

    • @GemmaChambersArt
      @GemmaChambersArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Usually when it comes to paper warping, the cause it due to the paper rather than anything else. I don't personally have any experience of tan Strathmore, but it seems to be medium thickness paper. It might be worth testing out some thicker paper like heavy weight drawing paper or bristol board. The tan Strathmore is 118gsm and I tend to use 240gsm bristol board. I also often tape down bigger paper while I'm working on it to help with curling (and keep it still for videos)

  • @Morticia147

    I would never put color on the drawing as long as the paper isn't dry again, you will damage the tooth of the paper massivly.
