The lathe was not Flexing, it was the extra long boring tool which you saw Flexing. And that is because the prop was true centered not the prop shaft hole. The prop shaft hole had tolerance poured into it at casting. Did you notice the special "swing" on the lathe though?
the spinning propeller on the lathe, was by far the most dangerous thing Ive seen a machineshop worker do, that was full on crazy. The final propeller looked really professional, great job team !

We all know a propeller must be perfectly balanced, calibrated and aligned, but these guys are making them wearing sandals and pouring molten metal like if it was soda into a bucket, just big respect!! 😅

У ледового класса винты стоят в защите. Шли мы с Арктики. До Находки оставалось час а 2-3. Оторвалась лопасть. Пришлось скинуть обороты ГЭД и на малых оборотах, добираться сутки до причала. На твердолобых защиты небыло!
Шпонка в пазу гуляет, посадочное место безжалостно деформируют ломом. А вал поправляли? Хотя вал наверное железный, а винт из какого-то мягкого металла. Думаю часто приходится менять.
I'm a machinist and this is the dangerous thing I have ever seen. This would not be allowed in the US. To much room for death and injury , but they are still amazing.

I smaller pilot hole first before using the big drill bit would have helped reduce the deflection of that borehole. Otherwise my respect, a job well done.

Probably hooked up to some crappy diesel engine that is held together with baling wire and hope , so I seriously doubt the vibrations of the prop will make a difference 🤔

i love seeing people talk trash, machinists and hobbyists alike, here let me clear it up, the machines are older than all of you, their economy is... ehhh, plus they don`t require ultra fine .00001 tolerances because iunno the ships are old as hell too, they just need it to work i would LOVE to see you machinists use this and achieve your precious precision, and i use an EDM for my parts i rarely send it to a machine shop because... government but i digress, the machines are older than y`all, they need refurbishment or replacement so why don`t y`all buy them one? i meaannn you mighty judges must have billions of dollars for your precision work, lockheed martin must really want y`all, they are doing the best with what they got quit being a negative about it and watch these men do what they HAVE to do not want to do i know for a fact there are people capable of making these machines accurate but ya know, that takes money. so from someone who actually likes precision by burning it off with a beam of high energy/intensity photons as well as EDM yes my electric bill is a smidge high but that`s the price you pay for shaving literal atoms off instead of gigantic .001 slivers, you guys, the ones making stuff, you`re doing great don`t let the sticklers bother you, put in hard work like you have been you`re awesome for what you do, and best of luck with whatever machining/engineering jobs in the future :)

I'm amazed by the HUGE deflection during machining! That lathe was flexing like crazy during boring. Such fine tolerances must make for a smooth ship

That tool post and boring bar were bouncing around so much the hole through the prop hub cannot possibly be round or accurate.
