    Last year I lost 60 lbs in 8 months by stopping to eat sugar, carbs, alcohol and not eating after 7 and not before noon. Also I walk about 10,000 steps 4 days a week. I still eat well -- Steak, chicken, green veggies, butter, cheese are all good. So I back up what you say. It worked for me and IT IS a lifestyle change. People are amazed at the change. Good luck on your transformation. Its so worth it.

    Thanks for the video, Mike. I'm a 42 year old man that's at least 50 lbs overweight. I was diagnosed with fatty liver, sleep apnea, and pre-diabetes a few years ago. I suspect that I might have become fully diabetic but I've been afraid about getting tested, but after seeing this video I'm a lot more motivated to do so. Thanks again and I wish you the best in your health journey!

    Hi Mike, I'm pre diabetic myself... I was 500 lbs. a year ago and have since lost 100... Trying to get my life back on track... Exercise is a problem for me as I have back, neck, and spine disease and movement causes me sever pain...I've stopped drinking pop and sweet drinks... Now I drink water or Crystal Light... It's hard losing weight but really easy to gain... I was laid off in 2003 and that is when my problems started... I'm like you in the sense that I'd would have rather had a good meal and conversation than a cigarette and/or an alcoholic drink... Good luck my friend... Stay safe... Have a great day...

    I'm 60 and I found out I had type 2 diabetes two years ago. I did everything right and went from an A1C of 12 to 5.7 in 6 months. I've also lost 60 pounds in the last two years. One thing I discovered is that when I ride my exercise bike, moderately, for an hour my blood sugar drops 45 points. When I did it for two hours once it dropped 90 points. I discovered I could reset my blood sugar for the day. But now it seems like I've reversed out of diabetes. Good luck Mike!

      @@germaninvenice ~ I don't know if you've got an exercise bike but if I were you, I'd get a recumbent exercise bike, put it in your living room and just ride it an hour a day as you wake up and watch the news or a movie. I lost 500 calories for one hour of riding and 45 'sugar points' when I tested my blood. But 500 calories a day is 1/7th of a pound. If you do that for a week that's a pound. If you do it for a year that's 52 pounds. I found that the bike was key to my recovery. Got my sugar down for the day and helped me lose weight. Good luck 'again' Mike!

      @@germaninvenice ~ Mike, the VA gave me Metformin 1000mg 24-hour tablets. I found those to be waaay better than the simple Metformin tablets I had to take twice or three times a day. It seems that when I took the 24-hour tabs my blood sugar was waaay more in check. I suddenly got way better blood sugar readings. It seems to be a much better med, I got much better results. Just a heads up...

It’s a good thing I lost weight because I required Open Heart Surgery last year because I had a congenitally defective aortic valve. If I had not lost the weight, I would be dead right now. I eat no bread, rice, pasta, or white potatoes. I do eat sweet potatoes & soybean pasta. I’m not saying my diet will work for everyone, but it worked for me.

Try and get some fiber like Mission low carb tortillas just one has 15g of fiber and 3g of carbs. It changed everything for me I blew up the bathroom for a week. Sorry for the details but without enough fiber it can get rough in there

    people watch and refer their family members and friends to this particular video. As a diabetic person myself, I know that I am going to come back and view this video,

I thought everything was fine, NOT! My Kidney function almost required Dialysis, from the Metformin. I lost a lot of weight, due to other health issues. I’m no longer Diabetic. Thank God! It’s definitely a serious issue. The problem is a number of factors ranging from eating foods with too much sugar (hidden or known), how much daily exercise, and genetics. If it’s Type 2 Diabetes majority of the time it is acquired through lifestyle and environment (including stress). Type 1 is genetic.

    Hey brother! I've been type 2 since 2009 or that's when it was diagnosed. Didn't have any major problems untill 2016-2018. In late 2018 I had diabetic retinopathy and have had multiple eyes surgeries which left me half blind and glaucoma in my 1 only good eye (6 eye drops daily) for it. Late 2019 put in hospital for kidney failure (stage5) on dialysis 3 days a week since March of 2020. September 2022 heart all clogged from diabetes and had open ❤️ surgery and a triple bypass. All in all though still kickin and have had my diabetes under controll since 2019 with an A1C of 6.2 after all damage done. On disability but try to live as normal as possible and always happy and stay positive. Thought about motivational speaking to other diabetics who have not been through as much as I have in 5 years and I'm only 40. Keep up the great vids GIV.👍🤟😛

    Mike, congratulations on the changes you've made. It's not always easy. The rest of what I'm going to say comes from the experience I have as a Diabetes Educator. Many people "clean up" their act when diagnosed and do like you are doing and get great results. Now this is where it goes off track. Some of the changes were so severe and drastic that most people find them difficult to sustain and eventually go back to what they were doing before because they've only learned to "not" do something, and haven't learned how to modify their diet to still include foods they enjoy and be able to have some flexibility when eating away form home. It also is challenging to be very strict once you see results and people often believe they can start doing more and more of the unhealthful behaviors and get back in to trouble. This may be what you need to do for now to get things better managed. Where the real long term success lies is making changes that you can maintain over the long term and learn how to include some healthy carbohydrates in your diet. I'm only saying this because you seem like a good guy Mike and I care about you and want the best for you. Plus we both have German mothers! I have late onset type 1 diabetes and was not able to eat many carbs for a long time and giving up potatoes was very difficult! After all these years I just don't care for them as much as I used to.

    • @pamjgmail9379
      @pamjgmail9379 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree that it's important that people find something they can maintain long term. You can't just go back to old habits. This is a whole life shift. For me, keto works very well. I don't miss most things eg potatoes, pasta, sweet stuff. I use cauliflower rice in place of rice for curries etc. Getting over the initial phase of wanting the old bad foods is the hard part. I'll never go back to my old eating habits!

      Agree-one meal a day sounds severe-maybe Mike is doing “legal” snacking? Hopefully the doctors will provide food plan suggestions.

    • @jerrynitto6622
      @jerrynitto6622 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is good advice. I have to have a can of beans every day or else I get severe constipation. It's 30 net grams of carbs and I eat some bread in moderation. All is good on the numbers now with just Jardiance. I use Splenda and heavy cream for my all day iced coffee. Those are my two meals lunch and dinner, just big jugs of strong ice coffee. One diet mountain dew a few times a week is my desert. I eat one big meal a day and with some carbs and some balance, it actually satisfies me. A few meals a week is just a huge heaping bowl of salad with the can of beans. I used to spike to 200 though just from the salad and a steak with no beans before jardiance. There's no one way to do this.

      Good luck. Take it one day at a time. Every meal is a choice. By keeping that in mind, your health will improve. It worked for me. I’m almost 50. Went to the doctor last year and they said my cholesterol, LDL triglycerides, and blood pressure was too high. I’m not a big guy, have a bit of stomach, but used to be active and eat healthy. These last few years really did a number on me like everyone else. Started eating fast food, soda, chips, just everything junk. Now, by focusing on meal choice, meal by meal, I have lost several pounds, lost my chronic, lifetime congestion, and joints started feeling better. Focus on what you eat each day. The habits will form and health will get better.

After 11 years post transplant, I can say is I am glad you caught it and please stay on top of it! Long ago a nurse gave us a trick- to lower blood sugar in a pinch, drink a ton of water. Sounds crazy but it works. Now you can start giving us GIV walking tours- the weight will just fall off! I have been struggling with pre diabetes for over 20 years. A person needs to change diet habits FOREVER - if you think about a “diet” it will never work. Good luck in your new regimen. Your health insurance will provide meal planning at NO COST, so ask your doctor for help. One meal a day sounds dangerous to me - did you tell your Dr you were doing that? Good luck and thanks for sharing… Dave

    Thanks for sharing!! Iam 61 and found I was diabetic in 2007 and I just got out of the hospital for a month with diabetic ketoacidosis and respiratory failure and acute kidney failure and kidney infection. I found your words genuine and real. Drs and dieticians say eat this don't eat that. Easy for them to say. Changing life long habits is never easy but the older you are the harder it is. I'm glad you talked about intermittent fasting as it is so important and can help you in so many ways. I think you did the right thing posting this. You can reverse diabetes if you get the A1c that long term glucose test you're going to get in two more months. If that gets below a certain number you're not diabetic anymore. I did it once a year after I was diagnosed. I vow to do it again. Metformin has some really bad side effects. Good luck and good health to you. Much love to you and your mom. Loved the videos from over there.

    I'm Mike's age, and have been pre-diabetic for several years. I'm thin, athletic, exercise daily, eat very low sugar, fairly low carbohydrates, don't drink, smoke or use drugs, and do intermittent fasting. But it has not worked to lower my blood sugar. I appreciate the lengths Mike has gone to because it shows me that I can clean up my eating even further.

    Mike, thank you for sharing. I urge you to really, truly take care of yourself. I lost my mom back on September 9th, 2022, and she had all the comications you said about. She was only 65. Too young, and it makes you realize how we take each other for granted. I, personally am starting to change my lifestyle/mindset because of her. I don't want to die that young. Watching you say these things just confirms everything. As much as your family, friends and TH-cam family needs you, Your mom needs you too! You can reverse Type 2 diabetes, if you catch it early enough. Which it sounds like you did. Take care, and yes you're always motivating me and I know thousands of others to live their life to the fullest and have fun!! Be true to yourself and Thank you again Mike!! Take care!! Love from Pennsylvania!! 💜🤗

    I've had type 1 diabetes since 1998. For 19 years I was taking Lantus and Humalog insulin, and unfortunately I was eating sugar without caring about my health which eventually killed my kidneys which caused a stroke. My eyesight also suffered a lot making me need glasses. I was on dialysis for 5 years, but just recently just received a kidney and pancreas transplant. And I had the same signs as you had when I first was diagnosed, an unquenchable thirst, losing tons of weight without dieting or exercising and constantly feeling lethargic.
