The 14 band "graphic" EQ. The 9500 has the parametric EQ. And that one in that radio is global. The graphic EQ in these units only adjust the source you're listening to, one at a time. The parametric in the 9500 is global and will adjust for all sources simultaneously
Yes! Did I say parametric??? 🤦♀️ I edited this video and rewatched it so many times I don’t know how I missed that. When I was talking to Sony about it, I was comparing it against the Alpine iLX-507 which has the parametric and we did discuss the 9500 too. It’s clearly a graphic EQ but parametric was on my mind. I've owned the 6000 for about a week and it's truly awesome. The wireless Carplay works flawlessly (be sure to install the GPS antenna as recommended) and one thing that I have noticed about Sony is that they are the undisputed kings of Bluetooth audio quality. My 320 kbps mp3's sound great, and this is from an IPhone SE 2016 with BT 4.2. The user interface is much improved and displays Sirius XM station ID logos and album art. The sound customization options are "just right," meaning they don't overkill like Pioneer, and the visualization and graphics on the options are way improved over the 5500 and 7000.

Thank you so much!! I am looking into the ES products as Sony has gotten much more reasonable about their buy-in amount to carry the ES line. I have a sample of their 6.5" coaxial speakers I need to get on display and take a listen to and see how they stack up against the other brands we carry (Alpine, JL Audio, Focal, Morel, Kenwood eXcelon, Hertz, Helix, Audison, etc.).
@@carstereochick Interesting. There are many things consumers don't realize. I assumed since you're a Sony dealer, you'd be able to get the entire lineup. I haven't purchased any ES products because I don't have a local shop to audition them.
Kenwood does the same with their eXcelon series. Alpine has their own product mix requirements too. Regardless of what products I end up with through buy-in commitments, I will always provide a client what I think is the best option for their particular application regardless of what I have in stock. I may end up with excess inventory, but I'm of the mindset I'll eventually sell it to the right person.

So glad I found your channel - I’ve been binge watching your reviews on every stereo model I’m currently shopping for my 2012 F250! You have THE BEST videos on this content!!
Really interested in the Sony XAV-AX6000…it has everything except that second camera input is a deal breaker! Is there any kind of splitter or switch available so I can choose which camera I want, given my maneuvering situation? I’m also looking at the iLX-407 but it doesn’t have wireless CarPlay. The iLX-507 does have all the features, but the overall look (physical look and buttons, and menu design) is pretty janky compared to the Sony. A draw of the Alpine is I would use the KTP-445A power pack - plug an play! Could the KTA-450 be universally used on other brand of receivers? Is it necessary for four 5x8 speakers?? I want full sound with good mid/bass…no room for a sub. I’m not a teenager anymore lol

There are aftermarket video switcher's available so you could definitely get one of those. Normally we set them up to be turn signal activated, but some of them come with a small separate momentary button you can mount somewhere and tap to switch through or trigger the different camera's. I don't use them often, but I know the one we've used in the past is from GCH Automotive, I think it's part # VS4. I don't know if it comes with the switch, I think it's just bare leads that you can trigger with a turn signal or whatever you want.
The KTA-450 can be used with (and I often do sell it) with other head units. It is nice when packaged with an iLX-407 because you can connect with included brackets right to the back of the head unit. The only thing to keep in mind if you don't mount it right on top of or behind the head unit, you'll need some barrels for the RCA connection because it has male RCA pigtails coming off the amp.
And yes, if you're not doing a subwoofer, I definitely recommend an amp AND sound dampening!!! Dynamat Xtreme and Dynaliner or something multi-layer. We just did a 2016 Tacoma - all we did was the roof, front doors and rear half doors. The client measured before and after at 70 mph and the dampening dropped cabin noise levels 3 dB!! It really does improve midbass response because you lose less of it to road/tire noise. That and fast rings if you can find them for 6x8/5x7.
I saw that you measured the ax6000 preamp outputs, were you able to measure the ax4000 outputs? Can you make a video?

I had a 5000 in a 2014 mx5 just sold it and a 8100 in a 21 Toyota taco one of the things that several of the review did not mention, which I love is the one screen adjustment for more bass 3 diff levels. Realistically I am not going to change the EQ for 99.9 % of the song but the mid and highs can stay the same and a little tweak on the bass it can make a big difference. I am gathering info because I will more than likely be adding one of these to my new convertible toy 2002 retro Ford T-brid.
The prices are fantastic for such good quality head units that have wireless Apple Car Play! These are very tempting to replace my old factory Honda unit.

I was thinking of installing this in a 2014 Silverado. I have dd 4.800 that accepts up to 10v input and dd m4000 that accepts 8v. Is this Sony a good choice? I have them being fed by a lc5i pro and that’s max 9.5 volts.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. That's a really interesting question. I have no idea. I haven't had client ask me that and if they did I would advise them to bring in an adapter for us to try. The manual says the USB C input is capable of video files ASF (.asf) / WMV (.wmv) AVI (.avi) / MKV (.mkv) / MPEG-4 (.mp4) but that's presumably when stored on a USB thumb drive. I don't know what the file would look like to the receiver when put through the USB C to HDMI adapter. My guess is you'll probably have to have two separate connections, one to the USB C and one to the HDMI input. Can you try it and let me know? I would be interested to know if that works. Great question. Sorry I don't have the answer!

Hopefully a quick question for you -- I have a 2017 Subaru Outback with the Harmon Kardon speaker upgrade that has a factory subwoofer (as far as I know). Would you recommend the 6000 over the 4000 for the 5V preamp if I wasn't planning on upgrading the speaker system?
Or is the 6000 even worth it for the 5V preamp if I have to set everything on the equalizer to max?
Hi Anthony! Thank you so much :) I'm so glad you're enjoying the content! That's a really GREAT question. In order for me to answer your question, I need to know what harness you're using. Are you using the iDatalink Maestro to retain the stock amp, steering wheel controls and reverse camera?
Let me know. It looks like with the Maestro RR and the SU2 harness you are connecting directly to the front and rear pre-amp of the aftermarket head unit (page 285 assuming your has the 7-inch factory display).

The thing is I haven't tested the 4000 pre-amp so I don't know if that one is also putting out .72 volts on the front and rear or if it's even less! Essentially, if the connection from your car stereo wire harness is RCA, then the higher voltage rating would technically be better, but at this point based on what I saw with the 6000, I don't know if there's going to be any difference on the front and rear pre-out. I suspect the higher voltage is really only on the sub channel, but just haven't had the time to test the 4000 and see if that's the case. If you're going by what the box says, the 6000 would sound better with the "5 volt" pre-amp.
The other thing that's really cool about using the Maestro is it gives you "Gain Adjustment" in the programming. So you can adjust that if needed within the Maestro programming if you find you're not getting quite enough output.
I would probably make that purchasing decision based more on the 3 year warranty than on the voltage rating.

That's a really good point on the 4000 pre-amp and that there is a chance it could also have an asterisk next to its preamp voltage. Definitely good to know about Maestro gain as well.

Funny that you mentioned a 2016 jeep Cherokee because I’m looking into this product for my 2016 jeep Cherokee but I have the 5 inch screen with knobs no alpine system but just wondering I would have to get that other product with it? Which one would be most recommended from their product line? Side note I’ve just watched your video testing the 5v out so I’m not too sure if I’ll be getting this what would you recommend in roughly ball park price range
You'll need the iDatalink Maestro dash kit CHK1, an antenna adapter, an ADS-MRR and also an iDatalink Maestro compatible radio. Keep in mind your install parts are about another $450. The Kenwood DMX709s is in the same price range/features, BUT with a wired connection. However, I had similar results on the pre-amp testing (video coming soon). Might have to up the budget to get something like the Kenwood DMX958XR to get true 5 volt, wireless and Maestro compatibility or check out the Alpine iLX-507.
For the steering wheel control if you have it setup for to change Source, does it go through every source you have or only the ones you have selected at the bottom?
Great question - it goes through every source. That is true for pretty much all car stereo manufacturers.

Is there a built in DSP to some extent with both of these units? I know there’s LDAC, but that’s if you specifically download that type of audio file. I’m talking about a built in DSP in general for listening to Pandora, regular type music that’ll improve sound quality.

Hi there - before even chatting about a DSP I have to say, if you're using Pandora, even with the paid for service, you are maxing out at 192 kbps. The quickest and easiest way to improve your audio quality is by using a higher quality app like Apple Music (with Lossless turned on) or Amazon HD or Tidal. All of those offer CD quality at 1,411 kbps. At 192, the audio is so compressed, you are missing SO much of the original file! It really makes a huge difference.
At our shop if I have a client come in and pick up their car after we've upgraded the audio and I watch them open up Pandora or Spotify and I'm like wait, you have to hear that same track in higher resolution and their eyes bug out when they hear the difference. It's huge. So please try!!!
There is no built in DSP on these models, just the graphic EQ and audio controls. At some point I may review the 9000ES, but 1st I have to sign up to become a Mobile ES dealer. There is a buy in which we are considering. In fact the next review I'm working on is on a set of the Mobile ES speakers ;)

Last thing here, I don’t want to bug you too much. Lol! But I definitely think I messed up on my door speaker to sub ratio. On my JL 5 channel amp, I’m running 70 watts to the door speakers, and only 150 watts to my little JL 8 inch sub. I want to get the Stealthbox with a 10 inch TW3 that’s 400 watts. Do you think that’ll be a much better ratio? It’s almost like my mids and highs are drowning out my 150 watt sub
Which feature is more useful (dso dynamic stage organiser & extra bass of xav 8100 or time alignment of sony xav 6000
Personally I'd rather have the time alignment if I'm using it for a nice aftermarket set up with speakers, amplifiers, sub etc. If this is just a simple head unit only upgrade, you might prefer the larger screen and bass boost on the 8100.
For the Sony XAV-AX6000, can you confirm if there is DSP? Depending on the music track that's playing, sometimes the subwoofer level needs to be adjusted. Is there a quick access (one or two buttons) to adjust the subwoofer level?
They both have some form of time alignment and EQ. As far as the sub level, there is an adjustment, but I don't think it's super accessible. You have to go the sound settings whenever you want to mess with the sub gain. Alternatively, you could install an RCA bass remote inline and just leave the sub gain at your selected highest setting and just turn it down from there
Hello, can you explain the function of the "Devices" App in Homescreen?
If you have more than one device paired or in the vehicle at the same time you can tap devices to switch between them.
Can you keep the rear view camera and use the camera output in the Sony 6000 for the front of the car?
This receiver only has a single composite reverse camera input designed for reverse camera only. There are no other video outputs or inputs. It does have a micro HDMI input, I'm not sure if that's what you're referring to? But that is meant for streaming audio and video content from a smartphone using the appropriate HDMI adapter for your phone. You could look into a composite video switcher with an external switch that would allow you to use the single reverse camera input and manually trigger an external switch to activate a secondary camera. Kind of pricey to add that, those switchers are usually in the $100 +/- range.

They're very different models. The 8100 is a larger floating screen, with wired connection only and it's not Maestro compatible. It's an awesome value for a high quality floating screen though and not every car needs a Maestro RR and not everyone needs wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The 6000 is geared more towards wireless connection and iDatalink Maestro compatibility.
Is there any update from Sony on when these will be more widely available? They've been out for half a year in the US, with no word of a European/UK release date
I'm not sure who you're trying to buy it from, are you in UK? Here in the US they're readily available. I remember inventory was tight around the holidays for a few weeks and I think briefly again maybe back in February, but we've always had enough inventory at our shop to cover our clients. From what I see right now, it looks like most major online retailers in the US have them available too.
You’ve mentioned. Both only support rear camera. Could you recommend anything that includes both features or anything with 360 camera angles. Thank you in advance.
If you're looking for wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and 2 camera inputs, you may want to consider the Alpine iLX-507 (I have a video on that too, you will need another adapter if you plan to use a composite camera on both inputs - detailed in the video). Other options to consider would be the Kenwood DMX908s or DMX958XR. Both have smart camera control so you can make the front camera automatically come on when switching from reverse to drive. I believe the Alpine iLX-507 will do this as well, but I think only when connected to an iDatalink Maestro and used in a vehicle where the Maestro supports "Advanced Camera" functions.

thank you for the video. just got the 4000 at best buy. they installed it you didn't mention if the 4000 will play video thru the usbc ,the manual says it will but I can't get it to recognize the video on the jump drive. it did take the firmware update from a jump drive any help in that regard ? maybe 1 more quickie. how does one format video with asp ? manual says video must be that.
That's a good idea, I'd have to see if I had any files I could play and make a video on that. I haven't tried it, but the manual does say you have to select USB and then switch it from the audio icon to the video icon in order to change the file type it's reading. It also says it can read a few different types of video files - ASF, WMV, AVI, MKV & MPEG-4. One of the really important things to note is it will not play anything with DRM or digital rights management or any copyrighted files. So if this is a movie you own and downloaded, it may not play due to DRM.

What file format is on your USB? And what type of files are you trying to play? I'll have to try it and download content from my iPhoto library (without DRM) and see if I have a movie or something I can try downloading too. My guess is it will only display the content from my iPhoto library. Might be a few weeks, but I'll definitely add that to my list of content to create. Thanks!

There is usually a file limit. I’ll have to check the specifications page in the manual when I get a chance. That’s usually where they put it.
Hi. Can’t find the video sony xav-ax6000 preamp voltage test.
It is 5 volt. When I 1st tested it, I had "sound check" in my phone which was throwing off the readings so I actually took that 1st test video down. You can see in this video link at about 2 minutes and 48 seconds in.

For sure. Go to idatalinkmaestro.com to look up and see exactly what features are retained. The Maestro has you covered for retaining the steering wheel controls, reverse camera and more. I would use the ADS-MRR, HRNI1 plus an SON1 if you want to make it a T-harness. Either stereo option will work, all depends on if you plan on taking advantage of the 5 volt pre-amp with an aftermarket amp/sub or if you maybe want the 3 year warranty over the 1 year. Check out Metraonline.com to pick out your dash kit and antenna adapter. Most likely a 95-7619 & 40-NI12.
Between the Sony 6000 and the Alpine ILX 507 which is a better unit.
Totally a personal choice, they both have their pro's and con's. I think the Sony screen is more accurate/responsive to touch, better SQ with everything set flat straight out of the gate. BUT the Alpine gives you a lot more bang for your buck, has a more vibrant HD screen and a TON of audio control. You can easily tweak the Alpine to get it sounding just as sweet as this Sony or a Kenwood eXcelon. You may want to find a local shop that has both on display so you can really get a feel for them both.
I have a 2016 Jeep with the factory premium Alpine speakers and amp. Would you go with the 4000 or the 6000. I know you mentioned the high wattage of the 6000 but is it worth the extra $$$?
That's a great question. It varies depending on the year, make and model vehicle, but in the 2016 Jeep (Wrangler?) with a factory amplified system, you are wiring this speaker level. Which means the preamp voltage rating has no bearing on installation. There are also factory amp gain settings in the Maestro too so you still have some control over audio levels.
Unless you plan on eventually doing an aftermarket amp/speakers? The pre-amp voltage won't have any impact on sound quality. I'm assuming you're using an iDatalink Maestro for the harness/retain steering wheel controls. I just looked at the install guide to confirm.
If you told me you had a 2012 Toyota Highlander with JBL I'd tell you to go with the 6000 because in that install, the Maestro gets wired through the RCA preamp and in that case, you would hear the difference between the 2 volt and 5 volt. But because it gets wired speaker level, it won't make a difference because it's not being used. I hope that makes sense!

Do you happen to know of while playing through Bluetooth that there's a delay? Say you're watching something on your phone in a parking lot and the audio is behind the video. My current Pioneer, which isn't really old does it but my 7-8yr old Kenwood doesn't have a delay
I did not notice any delay, but I didn't try that specific scenario. I did try the HDMI input on the XAV-AX6000 with both Android and Apple and did not experience any audio delay there. I have a video on that too. th-cam.com/video/8H-Mmxs7ZqI/w-d-xo.html

Sony 9500 ES hands down.
Can they do center channel upmixing?
No, that’s a feature usually found in higher DSP’s. Helix does a great job with that in their DSP software.
XAV-AX6000 or Kenwood DMX 809S?
Would this be good in a 2014 Silverado going to dd 4.800 10v max input and a dd m4000 8v max input? They are being fed the signal by a lc5i pro 9.5 volt max atm and sound great but the hissing coming from the lc5i pro is driving me crazy even with all gains matched and grounds checked.
You're running that off the stock head unit right now? Yes, it will sound so much better with the XAV-AX6000 and removing the LC5i Pro. That will eliminate the hiss. Right now you're working with an already amplified signal and even though you're using a premium line output converter, it's still an already amplified signal which is why you get the background hiss. Also the digital to analog converter is the Sony is leaps and bounds higher quality than the stock head unit so not only will that eliminate the hiss, you will get so much more detail. Make sure you get yourself the iDatalink Maestro RR to retain access to any vehicle settings in the factory radio, steering wheel controls, reverse camera and climate control display.

I think the screen is more vibrant/easier to see on the Alpine, but the Sony is more responsive. SQ wise, both sound great. Alpine gives you more audio control with the parametric EQ that is adjustable per channel. Sony's XAV-AX6000 is a great value and has a 3 year warranty vs 1 year. They both have their pro's and con's.
I drive a 2002 corvette c5, the sound system is the stock Bose sound system I want to get the Avx ax 6000. Would you recommend this for a daily driver I’m primary focused on having good apple CarPlay, reliability, and 0 to no latency and lag.
So far clients have been pretty happy with both models! I do advise checking options out in person if at all possible. It's the best way to make sure you'll really be happy with it and sort of give it a test run. Is your Corvette is a convertible? The only area where I think these models lack is the screen vibrancy/saturation. Certain Kenwood and Alpine models are a bit more vibrant/easier to see, but the Sony models are quite accurate/responsive to touch.

I bought the 6000 on Amazon cause it was a great deal. The 4000 showed up. After a few back and forths with the seller they finally said Woopsie. Our bad. But will not exchange me it for the 6000. I think they probably do this on purpose to offload the 4000's. But im so glad you have this video. I did a little digging and the difference between 2.5v to 5 v pre out is 6 dB. If you have decent amps you shouldn't notice a big difference. But i just got that from Reddit so? But they offered $150. Refund if I keep the 4000.

Unfortunately that model isn't available here, but I can tell you the Pioneer only has a 2 volt pre-amp and the XAV-AX6000 has a 5 volt. Pioneer in general I think has a more esthetically pleasing graphic user interface, more options for layout/color/graphics and overall probably a more vibrant screen. Sony is more simplistic in design which also makes it pretty easy to use. The XAV-AX6000 has a 3 year warranty whereas Pioneer typically has a 1 year.
What is the resolution of the screen when using CarPlay?
I don't know that it would be any different for CarPlay vs Android Auto vs back up camera display. Sony doesn't get that in depth on the monitor specifications, just states that it has your typical 1,152,000 pixels found with most aftermarket head units with 800 x 480 RGB displays. Personally I find the vibrancy/saturation to be lacking compared to other options with similar price point (like DMX809s for example) YET both the 4000 and 6000 are very responsive/accurate to touch.

I'm a huge fan of Sony radios. Last Friday I had the 4000 installed in my 2007 sierra. I've been having issues with echos through the microphone and when the person talks it sounds like there talking through a tin can.
I told the company who installed it and they have no clue what could be wrong. Do you have any ideas?
Was the vehicle equipped with Bluetooth previously? If so, make sure you forget the OEM Bluetooth. In many newer vehicles, the module is still in the car and your phone maybe trying to connect to both which can cause call quality or connectivity issues. Could also be mic placement. Typically with Sony, you want the mic right in the middle by the rear view mirror. If there are electronics near by though, it’s possible you could be picking up interference. Ran into that once with an older GM truck like yours and an Alpine radio, we ended up moving the mic sort of above the radio on the dash near a seam. Had to change how/where the mic wire was routed. I think it was picking up something from under the dash, maybe the BCM 🤷♀️ Sometimes you just have to play around with placement and where the wire is routed. Not common, but have run into that. I’d also make sure it has the latest firmware. I hope that helps!

Sounds very similar to the issue I had with the Alpine. In that truck, the call quality problems only happened while driving at higher speeds. Whenever the client was on the highway and he'd call we'd get this unbearable echo and whirring sound. When the vehicle was stopped or was at lower speeds around town, it was fine. I think initially we had the mic routed under the driver side dash/steering column area, up the A pillar and somewhere along the way, it was picking up some kind of interference. When we routed it on top of the dash and away from the driver's side electronics, that corrected the issue. I would recommend trying that.

I think this would be perfect for my '86 Porsche 944 Turbo (single DIN with a "cubby" underneath). Has anyone here installed in that car, or something similar?
In a car like that I try and keep it classy with a single din like an Alpine UTE-73BT, CDE-172 or CDE-175BT. Thinking of esthetics. Those models have a matte black trim ring, they're easy to use and you can change both the button and display illumination to make it look period appropriate. We often package it with a small discreet amp like a KTA-30FW or KTA-450 and upgraded speakers.
In the Sony line up, something like a DSX-GS80 would be nice. It has the higher powered amp built in 45x4 RMS. We put one in this Renault Clio - th-cam.com/video/qi0PW2tHQxY/w-d-xo.html
If you put something like the XAV-AX4000 or XAV-AX6000 in there it's going to stick out like a sore thumb IMO, but to each their own :)

I have a question, I have a gmc Acadia Denali 2014, an I want to upgrade my radio to something that has a better navigation and car play. I really just want to keep all the factory features that I love 😩 like when ppl call, their name an contact Pic pops up or when ppl text me I have the option to play out loud, view, or reply. Can I be specific with asking u some questions? I just want to make the most informed decision lol. Ok so when a song is on does it show the cover art, name of artist an song title (with xm radio)? With the USB port, would I have to have a cable hanging somewhere? Also does it have an internal mic or would I have to place one somewhere? When u make calls will it a normal volume or will I need to jack the volume up to max to hear it all? Would the signals be heard through the speakers or the radio unit? If I did the maestro would that help retain any of my factory features? Maybe I'm just being too picky 🤷🏼♀️. Side note... I honestly love my radio I just wanted to add a better navigation an car play without losing what features I already have an love. I really wanted to buy newer model factory radio like a 2020-23 that has wireless carplay but I was told I can't do that 🤔
I feel you, the worst thing is when you think you're doing an upgrade and realize you're losing features you loved. If you were local to my shop I would go sit in your car with you to go over it and make sure I covered everything. I'd also want to show you CarPlay or Android Auto on one of our display models in case you haven't tried it in another vehicle because that interface will show you the contact pic, but it's not going to be the same as your OEM radio.
The thing is, there are so many variations in vehicles that the iDatalink Maestro can't always retain every feature. However, when I look up your car on their website and this radio, I see all the basics covered such as retaining steering wheel controls, USB (you will actually need two adapters to that because this radio has a USB C connection - iDatalink ACC-USB1 and the anker USB to C adapter listed in the video description), reverse camera, OEM SiriusXM, Park assist and that's it.
I do not believe the OEM SiriusXM will show album art based on my previous experience with retaining the OEM SiriusXM in GM models, but I do know someone in the comments on here confirmed that the SXV300 tuner will show album art. You could just transfer your service from the OEM tuner to the aftermarket SXV300.
I do not see anything specifically about retaining Meta data or any type of display that you may currently have in your instrument cluster area. I recommend emailing iDatalink Maestro tech support and asking them about the specific features you're trying to retain. You may end up speaking to Dara over there, she is the best. She recently helped me out big time with a similar situation in a newer VW Jetta. I sent them pics of what the client was hoping to retain and she emailed me back letting me know what would work. I hope that helps!
Lastly - FYI - neither of these models have sat based GPS Navigation, they only use the GPS apps from your phone. If you want something with sat based navigation with CarPlay that is Maestro compatible, look into a Kenwood model like DNX577s or DNX997XR. Good luck!

These models just have a standard composite video input and basic screen resolution of 800 x 480 so I think the highest res camera you can probably do is 720p with an analog HD camera.

The MEX-DV2200 unit supported SACD and DVD and DTS discs. Not DVD-A.
I guess I don't recall that model. So I guess they never replaced it because SACD never really took off in car audio?? That was a format I honestly don't recall, but after googling it, it looks like there's still a home audio market for it. In car audio we've seen clients move on to using higher resolution portable players like Astell & Kern and then integrating those directly into high quality DSP amplifiers.

Great question, but that's totally a personal preference. I don't listen to FM/AM at all so for me it's not a factor, but I do have plenty of clients that like to listen to local radio stations and many of them do broadcast in HD so they can appreciate it. It really depends on how often you listen to it and if you're within range of channels broadcasting in HD.
I found Sony XAV-AX6000 firmware buggy as Android auto is not connecting via wireless where I need to restart unit completely to get AA working, and I am running latest firmware from Sony, I am using Galaxy S21 Ulltra. My older Dual Headunit was more stable.
Really? Sorry to hear that. I have not run into any issues with Samsung devices. And you've tried clearing Bluetooth memory from both devices after the update and re-pairing? In one of my videos, I was using a co-workers Samsung with this model, I'm pretty sure he has the S21 as well and I was able to do wireless Android Auto and wireless mirroring. I did recently have a client with a Google Pixel that would not connect to this or ANY stereo in my showroom. Turned out to be the phone's Google VPN blocking the connection. It would connect wired every time, wireless was the issue. Once he whitelisted the device, it connected no problem. Does Android Auto work when you connect wired every time? If it's only wireless that is an issue, it could be something like that in the phone's security/WiFi settings.
@@carstereochick definately not VPN related however I have USB with FLAC files it seems unit randomly doesn't wirelessly pair to S21 Ultra via AA but strangely enough Bluetooth does for calls, after a hard power off and on it seems to resolve issue.
But when it doesn't connect wirelessly, if you connect directly to the USB C cable does Android Auto launch? Or does even that require a hard power off/on to resolve?

Seems like Nissan wiring harness doesnt have proper ground. Grounded it to Chassis and seems to be more stable now and using latest firmware released 13/6/2023. :)

Wireless CarPlay uses AirPlay via WiFi not Bluetooth, and is uncompressed 16/44.1 ALAC. Cable or not shouldn’t effect sound quality :)
I agree that technically, on paper, there should be no audio difference in audio quality between wireless CarPlay or wired, but my understanding is just like a wifi network in a home or office setting, there are packets of information that sometimes get lost. I have noticed this even when my husband uses wired CarPlay, but he's relying on cellular data streaming as he keeps all his music in the cloud whereas I download it to my phone. If we're in an area with spotty coverage the audio quality can get glitchy. It doesn't always outright pause, sometimes it sounds like it's missing something similar to how if you're talking to someone over VOIP their voice can get garbled or almost electronic sounding because there is some data missing. And even though I keep the music stored on my phone, I notice when I'm connected wirelessly to our display model XAV-9000ES, sometimes there is lag. The lag with wireless CarPlay bothers me more than anything else.
EDIT - it uses Bluetooth to do the handshake then hands off to wifi.
Literally the only thing keeping me from getting the 6000 is that you can’t connect Apple CarPlay though usb chord and only through wireless. Scares me in case the wireless ever decides to stop working. Otherwise I would get this stereo 100%. Worth it for the price.

The USB C input is there for optional charging, but the actual CarPlay connection and data transfer is wireless only.
Would these be good in a 2003 Ford Crown Vic? Would they be easy to install?
Oh that's a great question. You know, I forget where the slot is off the top of my head, I know it's shallow in one section and blocked in another kind of like the BMW E46. Doing a quick google image search it looks like in the 2003, your single din slot is on the bottom of the dash and it's shallow on the top. Meaning you'd have to do a lot of modification to get the Sony in there since the Sony single din chassis is on top. The Alpine iLX-507 has the single din chassis on the bottom so that's an option. Or you may just want to go with any shallow mount double din like an Alpine iLX-W650, iLX-407 (wired CarPlay/Android Auto), Kenwood DMX4707s, DMX709s (both wired), DMX908s or DMX958XR (wireless).

No volume knob is a big let down... And no easy hard buttons practical for changing radio station presets/skipping songs on my playlist. Afterall I'm driving. This "tablet" is something I could buy if I'm going to be sitting on my couch--not in my car.
Should be worth noting that you can use the 4000 with gloves on (probably not a big deal to cagers, but for a motorcycle the 4000 is a better option)

Just installed yesterday via best buy. The backup camera, aftermarket, has screen tearing when in motion and is over saturated. A street lamp at night will take over most of the screen. It looked great with the much cheaper Walmart head unit before. If I can't figure it out today, I'll need to find another option. Update: firmware fixed screen tearing. Picture is still below my standards but is no longer dangerous
Would you say the picture quality is also poor on other sources? Or really just the back up camera? Just curious. We installed one of these with a Rydeen CM-HD4 last week and I delivered the car to the client at night. The client and I were both impressed with the backup camera image quality based on the extremely low light conditions. I wonder if it's a display issue or camera issue. In another install we retained the OEM camera that was okay when displayed on a factory lower resolution display, but it looked a bit washed out on the newer Sony display. I think camera quality is a factor. Was the previous radio display also 7"?
@@carstereochick when I finally looked, this screen is 480p. My old screen from dual was 600 at 7in. 720p is not hard to find but more expensive of course. The aftermarket camera is HD which means 720p. I use android auto, the maps look small but fine because we have good vision. I have never streamed a movie in a parked car, so no reason to test that. I want to upgrade to a halo model xav-9500es for triple the cost. Get what you pay for.

The largest benefit to hotter line signal is that you can drown out whatever interference you may have near the wires and equipment. This is one of the reasons XLR runs hotter than typical RCA, the long cable runs are both long, and more sensitive to interference.
Thank you, but I respectfully disagree with you - sort of. What you're saying on paper is true, but in practice, what I've covered is also true.
Here's a perfect example. Let's say you have an older Toyota or Lexus, like 2004 Toyota Sequoia with a stock premium amplified system and all you're doing is upgrading the head unit. You don't want to run wires and bypass the amp so you use a basic harness like a 70-8113 to retain the stock amp. That's a pre-amp level signal with that harness. That old stock amp does not have a ton of power to begin with. Putting in a 1.5 - 2 volt head unit, you will have very little output even at max volume. At 4 or 5 volts, it's going to be decent or at least what a client would expect when upgrading to a higher quality aftermarket stereo. Without that extra voltage they're going to look at me like, "I thought I paid for an upgrade, this doesn't sound like an upgrade at all".
Clients can even pick up the difference between a 4 volt and 5 volt pre-amp on my display board. Watch my latest video where I explain how a setting in Apple music that got turned on during a recent software update dropped the pre-amp voltage from 5 to .7 on this radio and a few other 5 volt models I sell. I show the difference on camera with the setting on/off using a scopemeter and then also with some royalty free music. You'll hear it in the video even on my $20 amazon mic!!!
Bottom line is clients are always looking for more. They want it louder, they want more bass. If their amp can't produce anymore and they don't have the budget to buy a more powerful amp, what do you do? When you're already at the clipping point on your amp, you're at max volume on your head unit, all you've got is 2 volts and it's not loud enough for you, upgrading to a 5 volt head unit can make a HUGE impact. It's audible. If you want to come by my shop I can let you hear it for yourself :)

So, I just had the 6000 installed. And honestly, it sounds flat, I need a high res 96/24 dac in my decks, my old JVC deck had high res dac and sounded 100 times cleaner than 6000, and the 6000 and 4000 screens are extremely ugly. I'm returning the 6000 to car toys to get the Alpine ilx507 installed instead
Interesting! Just curious are you using Apple or Android? Or just music files on high end player or thumb drive? I will also say, if you liked your old JVC, you may prefer the Kenwood DMX958XR. Kenwood and JVC are sister companies and have essentially the same parts, but branded and marketed differently. If you were used to a high end JVC DAC, I'm not sure you'll like the Alpine iLX-507. The Alpine is a great option, but we found it to be a bit thin. We did another video with the pre-amp test where we tweaked the EQ to bring it to life a bit.
@@carstereochick I use a thumb drive with FLAC files, and FLAC files on my Android. I dunno what's going on, I just may have had my JVC KW 865BW set with too many sound enhancements (K2, Loudness, Sound Lift etc) turned on so maybe it gave me a false impression of better sound? And now the Sony in comparison just seems hollow. Maybe my ears need to adjust. Was the iLX 507 sounding good after you guys tuned it in your other video? the ilx 507 is supposed to have a 24bit DAC so I was hoping it had good sound quality. Yes, the Alpine sounded great once John tweaked the EQ.
I haven't tested this yet, but I have heard the possibility that the pre-amp voltage on the Sony does vary depending on source so that could be the issue. I tested the XAV-AX6000 twice using Apple CarPlay. With the 1st round, I accidentally had Sound Check turned on which significantly reduced output both on the internal amp and pre-amp voltage. What's weird is the response I got from Sony when I told them. They basically told me this is normal, jack everything up in the EQ which seemed weird to me, but it worked.
But then when I retested with Sound Check off and everything flat, I got 5 volt and a lot more output. I've heard that the output is only 5 volt with CarPlay and not so with Android Auto or USB. I have plans to re-test it with the same audio files on USB and will verify that claim, but potentially, that could be the issue you're experiencing.
Personally, I am a fan of Kenwood at the moment. For sound quality, reliability and screen quality. They also have an awesome HD reverse or front park camera. I'm really digging the DMX958XR and have plans to do a side by side review of that model with the DMX908s. Working on that this weekend, it should be posted in the next couple weeks.
Not sure what amps or DSP's you're using if any? If you have equipment that will accept digital toslink or optical, consider the Stinger HEIGH10 which does have a digital output.
@@carstereochick so I actually decided to go with newer JVC KW-M875BW, it's an updated version of the 865 model i had previously. I think it would be cool if you could review the JVC KW-M875BW model if you haven't had plans to yet, because although they may seem to be in Kenwood's shadow, they offer some specific things tech that JVC invented and for cheaper than Kenwood's equivalent that you mentioned, cheaper by $200 in fact, with almost same specs so the hidden gem people are missing is JVC, anyone lucky enough to discover the greatness of the JVC will be rewarded with amazing sound and features and amazing price. No other head unit anywhere gives these kinds of features at this price point. I just hope that they didn't lie about their preamp voltage like every other head unit seems to be doing nowadays... I am using an Alpine 4 channel speaker amp, with 4 infinity Kappa 6 by 8 speakers, and a JL Audio JX500 sub amp with JL Audio 10TW3 thin line sub in my ford F150
I guess because I have to do such a big $ commitment to be an eXcelon dealer, I never thought to add in any JVC models because typically the two lines just mirror each other, but you're like the 3rd person that has mentioned that specific model to me so maybe I will! And you're right, it's a great value. It's very similar to a Kenwood DMX958XR (LDAC, 5 volt) but with a resistive touch screen (so it doesn't support the high res reverse camera, but you may not need/want that anyways). I've always thought of Kenwood/JVC like Chevrolet/GMC, but this particular model may be a better buy/value for certain clients out there. And I am confident the voltage is true as long as you don't have any settings like Apple Sound Check turned on in Apple Music or Absolute Volume in Android. It makes such a huge difference for some. I had a client today looking to upgrade his stereo in his 2022 VW Tiguan R Line and I hopped in and took a listen with him and he was happy with how it sounded, but it just wasn't loud enough. I took a look at his phone and turned off Sound Check and 😮 suddenly he didn’t need to an upgrade anymore 😂

Pricing is subject to change all the time as Sony runs specials. You can easily google to see what the current price is. I believe they are running a special right now through the end of August, but it's possible they may extend it.
Here’s my question. Why are these manufacturers still putting actual buttons on them and not focusing on making them edge to edge displays with minimal bezel.
Believe it or not there are a lot of clients that prefer the hard buttons and with valid reasons. They prefer to be able to reach over and feel a button without actually having to look down at what they're touching. With the edge to edge displays, they look very nice in the dash installed, but you typically have to look at what you're doing to adjust the volume or change tracks. Unless you have a vehicle with steering wheel controls and are used to using that, but that's not always the case.
There's only 30 warranty on any radio.3 years if manufacturers defects not if u mess it up.
Well of course, if you spill coffee or something on your radio and fry it, for sure, no reason for a manufacturer to cover that regardless of whether you've had it 30 days or more. Maybe I wrongly assumed consumers understood this to be the case with any electronics warranty.
As an authorized Sony dealer, if you buy either one of these radios from my shop and we professionally install it and you have a confirmed defect within the warranty period, I'm not going to make you send your radio out for repair. I'm just going to exchange it with one I have in stock and send the defective one back for credit. however their stuff is pretty rock solid. I couldn't tell you the last time I ever had to send one back.
Pioneer on the other hand, 30 days is all you get for exchange and that is one reason I'm leery about selling their products these days. It didn't used to be that way, you used to be able to get core exchanges so you didn't have to be without a radio. Alpine is the same way, but thankfully their products have been super reliable so that hasn't so much been an issue. Kenwood too, couldn't tell you the last time I had to exchange one for someone.

For example, a 2013 Toyota Highlander with JBL and you're using an iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR to retain the stock amp, steering wheel controls and reverse camera. Guess what, that connection to the head unit is pre-amp level. You connect that factory JBL amp with its extremely limited power to a 2 volt head unit and that client is going to complain it's not loud enough and that their factory stereo sounded better. Connect it to a 4 or 5 volt head unit and they will be happy and it will sound better than it did with the stock stereo. I learned this years ago with an even older Toyota Sienna with JBL and I made the mistake of selling them a Kenwood with 2 volt. Their factory radio sounded better because there wasn't enough signal from the stock amp for the 2 volt pre-amp Kenwood. It wasn't sensitive enough to give them a reasonable output. Stepped him up to a 5 volt model at no cost and he couldn't believe the difference.
@@carstereochick just because a 2 volt preamp cannot drive that particular OEM amp to full output power does not mean anything. Of course if the amp isn’t driven to full power, the system won’t be as loud . By your logic if I installed one of my vintage Eclipse 8 volt 55 ohm beasts to drive that amp the system would be even louder. SPL is a product of amplifier power and speaker efficiency, it’s as simple as that. Almost any aftermarket amp that I ever installed, ( thousands since early eighties) can be driven to full power with a 2 volt preamp. The actual advantage of a higher preamp voltage is drive the line harder Keeping the gain adjustment of the amp as low as possible, to create the most dynamic range and the least amount of noise . Don’t get me wrong, I would never sell a mooch unit to anyone who going to use any type of aftermarket amp, however if push came to shove , decent line level converter on the speaker outputs can and will give as much voltage as you need , not to mention ZERO noise due to no possibility of a ground loop. 99% of customers would not hear the difference especially in a moving vehicle.

Good head unit, horrible display quality. The anti reflective display looks very washed out, shows finger prints a lot and suffers a lot during bright day light driving. This is the deal breaker, if I can’t see the display clearly and easily when it’s bright outside, what’s the use of buying an after market head unit? Given, colors look bad too. If it was a glossy display, hands down, it would be game over for all other head unit manufacturers…
I would expect this channel to review the head units as if they were installed in a car perspective, inside a closed and controlled lab environment, the reviews are misleading, since this unit is a great head unit but the poor display quality in real world use is not highlighted in this review….
I hear what you're saying about the complaint on the radio display, but I don't know why you would expect me to do anything different than what I've been doing for the past 12 years which is review head units on display side by side in a showroom and provide real world feedback from my clients. I'm just a small independent shop trying to help out my local clients with detailed product reviews (which they often view prior to stopping in the showroom) and if I can help people out beyond that, great. But by no means am I trying to be the CNET of car stereo over here. I wish I could be, but I'm running a car stereo shop during the day and do these videos on nights and weekends. As cool as it would be to do a video on all the different heads units in the same exact car at the same exact time of day to give you that controlled lab environment, it just ain't happening. I do my best, but simply don't have that kind of time.
We have been selling both of these models for over a year now in a showroom setting where clients can actually come in and see these models against various other brands and not one has has brought up any concerns about the display getting washed out or looking washed out. It's possible it may have to do with your vehicle and the angle of the dash and how it sits in your dash. There are some cars where the radio has to get mounted at such an angle that glare can be issue regardless of what brand/model stereo.
I agree Sony's display is not quite as vibrant/saturated as others and you can actually clearly see that in the video at 7:28 next to the Kenwood DMX709s. However to really get the higher res display, you really have to spend a lot more if you want wireless and high res like the Kenwood DMX958XR (which had not arrived at the time this video was published). But the fingerprints? They all show finger prints - especially anything with a glass capacitive screen. We clean every touch screen installed before we deliver the car to the client because of that.
Does either of them support parking sensors?
Through the Maestro yes, but that would be a vehicle dependent/Maestro dependent feature. For certain vehicles equipped with factory park sensors, the Maestro can retain not only the audio of the sensors, but also provide a visual overlay on screen. But that varies from year, make and model. I've seen it most recently in a 2018 Express Van 3500 where we installed the XAV-AX6000 and used an ADS-MRR and GM5 harness.
I wish Sony would put out a firmware flash that would enable button color illumination options.
