In 2012 my younger brother tried to buy this camera using my Amazon account. He never got it because some shenanigans with the seller and the shipping address. After that, I took interest in cameras because of all that experience and after I realizing it was possible to buy one. Many years later I managed to buy an A6000 and absolutely loved it.
The last conversation we had over dinner, just two days before he passed away (almost four weeks ago) he told me how much he enjoyed using my camera on a recent trip with his wife. That he really wanted to buy a camera of his own. He was really praising the quality of the pictures, the shadows, how light it was.
Found this video because I was looking my purchasing history for light bulbs and the D3100 just popped up. Had to look on TH-cam. Watching your video, I imagined buying this camera for him, as if he was still here with me. Then saw the upload date, the same of his birthday. I really don’t believe in signs or supernatural stuff but, I’m buying this camera. Your enthusiasm for it made me realize how he inspired me to get one in the first place and then how I inspired him back. This video just transformed something trivial into another beautiful memory of him.

This video is incredible! Thank you for being realistic about beginner budgets. Sick of these £400 'budget' cameras where people recommend £600 lenses on top. Appreciate it so much, didn't even know it was possible to get a decent camera at this rate! And that lens interchangeability is going to be so damn fun!

Got one when it first came out and it's never had one problem. Used it from the US to Asia . Takes good photos to this day. Unless you are willing to spend $3000 plus this camera will do just about anything most people will need imo.
One thing you have to mention is, that this camera does not have a focus motor. So, if you mount an older lens without an internal focus motor, you have to focus manually.

I purchase my d3100 about a decade ago & sold everything even my full frame cameras 6-7 years ag. Last month i managed to recover my d3100 & its awesome 👌one of best small 📷.
Great review. I have mine since 2011 and it's still going strong.
Just one one thing. Yes, the autofocus is terrible for video only, not shooting. For photos the autofocus is spot on. At least with my 18-55mm lens that is. I hope it lasts another 10 years even though I've upgraded to a fuji xt-30.
can you tell me how to turn on autofocus cuz i am beginner and I don’t know how to use it, I want it for shooting not for filming, thanks
@@elsahaxhija7257 If you mean a kit lens like a 18-55 or a 55-200, there should be a switch on it with "A" and "M". Setting it to "A" enables the autofocus.

2:43 THAT point NEEDS to be said over and over! Once you've decided on a "system" (Nikon,Canon,Pentax,Sony...whatever). Spend your dough on the LENSES. "bodies" will come and go, (trust me!,LOL) the "glass" is the biggest "investment" in gear you'll make in photography. You're gonna use that glass on different bodies over the years!

I have one since 2012, the images are really great with good light conditions, but it sucks when you have just a little less light than the usual. The video function is just unusable too, unfortunately. As I say to myself: Nikon is for photo, Canon is for video.
Great video but I don't get cameras at all,nikon and canon have so many models, how does anyone pick one that's best for their needs? Also you mentioned lens is more important than body, so why not just get the cheapest body and get a fancy lens? I'm confused
Only really nice camera bodies will bring out the best in nice lenses. But any lens will work on a decent camera like this, just maybe not the best
This video literally covers that, he gives you models to get your feet wet and most importantly, get started. Now days researching is very simple, but more importantly actually going out there and shooting. Got your hands on a potato? Sweet go and shoot, thats how you learn
Bought one today as my first DSLR. So far so great
I have the D3100,the 50mm-1.8 prime lens.They both perform well.
I have one and it's in mint condition.
I do also have this cam with the 55mm stock lens for $210 all in with the bag, strap, batt and charger, with protection thing for the screen.. I'm still learning or trying to experiment the best options for taking photos hope that you can make videos or tutorials about it.

I has two digital cameras with about 14mp sensors when I was still shooting pro film, & digital was just starting. They both made very good jpg images for the web, and good prints up to 8.5x11".

@@jamesslick4790 I'm thinking someone pawned it to them for $20 or a little more... it stayed on their shelves for more than a year and never got sold... they had to let go of inventory to recoup some amount... plus the guys at the pawnshop know me so even if they knew i wasn't buying a camera that day, they just tried to see if i would be interested... i picked it up to help them make a sale and get rid of dust magnets.

You should try Pentax! Same as Nikon. All vintage lenses with the PK mount fits the newest Pentax cameras. Also, most of them are rugged. Lastly, even the 10MP K10D has IBIS. THey had it since 2007!! Super handy!

I'm thinking of buying one of these for $50 and then getting a capture card to use it for video streaming. I know nothing of cameras.
Go for the D3300 and then use the hacked firmware over at nikon hacker to get unlimited Live View that doesnt timeout at the default 30mins
the D3100 just isnt upto it and liveview will timeout at 17 to 30 mins.
I say this as the D3300 is what i have and currently use for livestreaming 2-3hrs at a time. 1080p60 is nice to have too
I was going to go with a d3100 but I just went with a canon T6. Sadly both lack active auto focus which is the bummer
I bought one of these couple of years ago with the 18-55 mm lens and had it converted for infrared photography and I love it. My hunny just got the D3500 and wants a second camera so he won't have to switch lenses so much. I will have to tell him about the 3100.

I have a D5100 with the Nikon AF 50mm 1.8 and use it for video only with manual focus. I'm highly considering to get 2 more D3100 for additinal video angles with my other Nikkor lenses since most of my client content are only 1080p.
I have this dslr for about 11 years already & rarely used it . So here i am to check out if it worth it for me to keep it or sold it.

You would need an adapter to use the Yongnuo lens with a Z5 (Nikon F to Nikon Z adapter)

dude perfect. the first thing i thought when i got this camera as a hand me down was i need to get a 50 mm. ive been out of digital photography for years using nikon v1 last time. but went into shooting film. but ive been meaning to get back into shooting and my cousin gave me his old one. that is a cheap lens1 *actually it went up to 100 usd lol but anyway still pretty decent. gna keep looking around since its 2022 now. and i might lean towards some old manual focus lenses.

Hey I have the d3100 for many years now. I have the kit lens, 50mm 1.8, 55-200mm 4.5 and a Sigma 17-50mm 2.8. There isn't anything wrong with the camera but I'm concerned about the end of the Nikon DSLRs era. That's why I was thinking about getting a d7500 and still get good use of the glass I have. With that said is there any point on upgrading? Thank you.

I have two lenses for my D3100 and can’t figure out how to use either of them. I also have no clue how to do closeups like you did.
Could you put a link to access the photos without editing in the cloud so that we can see the real quality of the images. There is no way to analyze photo in video.

I'm getting one today for 160 for the full kit and it has a shutter count of 1569. He also said I can check the shutter count again when I get there so I'm assuming he isn't lieing...it also appears to be in excellent condition. Should I do it?

Yup you just need to change the kitlens with that yongnuo 50mm f1.8.
