Istanbul: The Purr-fect city for cats! (I'm not kitten around!)

  • I noticed in Istanbul, Turkey there are so many stray cats and dogs. In this video, I take you around Istanbul and explain why there are so many cats.
I also have a small interview with a Turkish person and I asked him why Turkish people love cats.

@@arelee7974 this is actually proven by science that cats and dogs can hear the subtle earthquake waves. there are two types of waves that cause an eartquake, named primary and the secondary waves. Primary waves are much faster, doesnt damage nor shake the ground as much as the secondary waves. We humans can not hear/feel the primary waves, but the stray animals can. and they ALWAYS react early (up to 10 seconds or something, nothing crazy)

Our country is a beautiful country, yes, but there are too many stray dogs. Although there is no exact number, it is estimated that there are around 10 million stray dogs in total. This is an excessive number. Almost every month, you can see children killed and seriously injured people as a result of the attack of stray dogs in the news. The mass sterilization or drugging of stray dogs has been discussed here for the past few years.

After some walking (around 1 or 2 KM) another dog appeared and the first dog left. I automatically thought he handed over me to the other dog as i was leaving his territory he is protecting. Man they are even sharing the territory and following for potential criminal or victim situation. Just wow.

Thank you for the video. I just watched to see some cats:D Btw I am from turkey and the interviewee doesnt say “pitty” he says “merhamet” which is a turkish word with a deep meaning describes loving, kindness and empathy etc. Its transition might be closer to “mercy”. And about that rat story, I’ve heard of it when I visit athens reffering their rat issue, relating their stray cats exist the same reason as turkey. I was surprised, because such story is not popular in turkey lmao. I dont think that might be the reason. In fact, most turks doesnt even know about that story lmao and a lot of stray dogs are also populated for no rat reason. Also, in other turkish cities there are a lot of stray dogs and cats. I think it is because, culturally we are raised by the value of pure love. We are thought to love every life, especially those vulnerable animals. We also don’t like the idea of “silencing” animals in shelters as it feels inhumane

I live far from the center of Istanbul, yet even here, every apartment has a stray cat. I think the reason why Turks love cats is that they believe cats possess a certain level of consciousness, and they hold them in high respect. The common saying among Turks is that 'cats know who God is, just like humans do'.

Animals are free in Turkey. We give them water and food and let them walk freely as they want. We love them but putting them in a house and making them live there, it is like a punishment for them. Once I have found a kitten in a mosque garden, I thought this cat is hungry and need a warm place to live. I took him home, fed him, cleaned him, gave him a warm place to live. But the cat was so energetic he turned around my room like so many times. He was happy but deep in my heart I wasnt satisfied. Because I had to take care him now, its a big responsibility. Spending time with him, buying foods, cleaning his mess, going for vet. It was almost like having a kid for 12 years. But this energetic cat maybe had a family outside could be happier. Even I wanted to keep the cat as a friend, doing this because of I wanted so, and didn't even think what the cat wants. This made me think deeply. Because this cat was made for hunting, running, playing. Not for sleeping at home for his whole life. At the end the next day I brought him back where I took it, left him some food and milk. Gave him freedom 😎 So the result is. We can help them but they must be free to go outside walk around 5-10 kilometers around. So they need to connect with their family.
