- Mr Mannequin is a Blender add-on that makes Rigging, Animating and Exporting for UE4 an absolute BREEZE! It released last night and I just HAD to tell you all about it. I've been using Mr Mannequin 1.3 for Blender since I started doing animation - it's saved me so much time and helped me achieve great results!
The new version 1.4 is available for FREE here! gumroad.com/l/...
The new update is huge - featuring an easy rigging system, simple import/export options as well as an incredible AAAA quality animation rig.
I'm also going to be starting a new series - if you're an indie/solo developer and want to dip your toes into the animation swamp then stick around until the end!

Great presentation! I actually have a whole bunch of retargeting tools coming to the add-on in a few weeks that could be pretty useful for getting mo-cap onto the mannequin.
I also have a much, much better workflow for add-on updates and fixes now, so they will come a lot more often, i've pushed several fixes today already : )
Less of a presentation, more of a "ramble in front of the camera for a few minutes" hahaha.
That's awesome to hear! I was planning on trying to find another plugin to convert Maya HumanIK skeleton (the one Rokoko exports as currently) but might stick around for the in-built system! And the news about fixes is great :) Keep up the ripper work!
Read you email this morning. So happy you got so many users. You have a great product and work ethic. Thank you!
Do you have a discord for the plugin?
@@n1lknarf here's the invite :) discord.gg/wkPZJaH
It's giving me an error while loading the mesh... What to do? Please help!
This is freaking amazing! Wasn't expecting an update this great. And thank you, Charlie! Your channel is a goldmine for UE devs. Looking forward to the animation series.
It's definitely worth downloading! And I'm really looking forward to doing some animation videos :) Thank you!
The 5 minutes mat series it is a must see! And now we will get a animation tutorials too? Yay mate!
Let's hope I can keep up the pace :') Hahaha
I like what your talking about with layered animations. I cant seem to find much about that far as tutorials on youtube. Thats something i really need to learn about for ue4
Looking forward to your animation series! Your material tutorials are really easy to understand and fun to watch as well.
Thanks Josh! Hope you find them helpful when I get around to filming them :)
Really looking forward to the animation series. Your videos are great, thanks!
Thanks mate! I'm really looking forward to sharing :)
Yesss! Good shit dude! Really keen to see how you use this in your project!
Cheers Jake! Really excited to get the animations PUMPIN'!
first 5 minute material goodness, now animation tutorials?! quickly becoming my go-to channel for anything unreal, thanks for all the great content :)
Awesome timing!
I've been meaning to start working on animations soon (since I have no clue how they work in UE), I can guarantee I'll be binging your videos when the time comes 'round.
THIS is what I like to hear :) Videos are starting to come out now if you missed them :)
I had never heard of this plugin. I find that the default Blender animation system is a but clunky to navigate, so this is very helpful. Might be a huge time saver at work.
oh this is dope :D, I didn't know what this was, I'm 100% sharing your video with my coworkers ty ♥
I'm probably also getting started with animation myself with these videos and MR Mannequin :D
@@Fokkusu Glad to hear it!! Everyone seems afraid of animation but hopefully I can show that it's a little easier than expected haha
Dude. You seriously are the best. I really hope you don't give up on making these videos. You're hilarious, they're high quality. Actually fuck it. Why am I not giving you money on patreon. Money incoming.
You’re a legend :) thank you!
Jim is the hero we don't deserve
Absolutely. A true legend!
Holy moly I can't thank you enough I seen lot of tutorials I can't understand you explained clearly thanks
Thanks you for this awesome video and the exposure for this amazing tool.
Would really like to learn more about all the animation aspect you mentioned!
Glad to hear that! I'm excited to begin showing everyone how the AnimBP works :)
If Prismatica doesn't have those sweet moves I'm rioting
How did I miss this comment hahaha. OF COURSE there will be Fortnite dances, is a game even a game without them??
Oh yes please, I'm new to Blender anyway and have just started to "try" rig up some meshes I got from ArtStation to the UE4 Mannequin. Anything to make the learning curve less like having teeth pulled will make life that little bit less like having teeth pulled.
Jim has a video about rigging on his channel that you should definitely check out :) As for animation, I'll have you covered!
Love your video style and your games look awesome. Thanks for the tutorials!
these motion is so realistic than old school rigger. love it.. more tutorial please bout this topics (miss mannequin), still confuse to use this plugin with custom mesh
I'll be covering the actual animation process in an upcoming video! And I'll also be covering the custom rigging tool when there's another update :)
Additive animations .....yesss plzzzz.😍
Awhhh yessss haha
This look great I need to look into it
Definitely! Check out Jim's channel and join his discord if you're interested in giving feedback.
dude thank you so much! ive been trying to figure out how to take the layers off
Hahaha no worries!
Sweet Movement in them Hips! OH My God, I Died!
Thanks for a great tutorial of Mr Mannequin tools 1.4
Dad, what does peak performance look like?
Dad: 7:44
Hahahahahahahajha
Hopefully you'll cover the motion capture touching up using Mr mannequin tools aswell! Very interested in seeing that process as im planning on getting a mocap suit this year.
Great video!
Definitely! I'll most likely be live-streaming a lot of that at some point as well.
@@PrismaticaDev I'll take a note of that and stop by!
just discover plugin v1.3 last week now new version 1.4 is out?? yayy
Haha amazing timing! :)
This is amazing
You're amazing!
Thaks for the video. I messed with blender a little in the past. But am at the point where i need to create my own animations. Glad i discovered this mr mannequin plugin. Can i bring in animations i already have and tweak them? Also is there a video somewhere of someone using this new version from start to finish making a full animation?
Looking forward to seeing your up and coming series! I'm wondering if it's possible to import mixmo animations on to Mr Mannequin to speed up animation work flow?
Jim is currently working on an animation retargeting system and Mixamo will be one of the default options! :)
Quick qestions or two lol. How did you bring up the box the switch to female mannequin? also how did you select both layers, when i click on a box it only highlight one at a time?
Heya stormr - when you add the Mannequin, there should be a little dropdown menu in the bottom left corner of the screen that has a lot of options :)
@@PrismaticaDev I had no screen pop up, thats why I asked about it. I thought maybe you had pressed a shortcut button to get to it. Blender is so hard to understand most times. Seems like everythimg is only available as a shortcut press
@@stormr haha yeah I'm still getting my head around Blender. Sooo many shortcuts!
Awesome channel man, + sub!
Im pretty new to animation/rigging so I dont have a lot of knowledge on the matter. Can you tell me what is the difference between this plugin and Auto rig pro? Besides one being free and the other paid. Can i add the armature from Mr. Mannequin tools to a custom character?
Or the workflow is i create a skeletal rig for my custom character using the exact same bone names and i use the mr Mannequin to create only the animations?
Meaning i create the animation with the plugin onto the Mannequin and then since my custom character has the same bone names these animation will be usable with the custom as well? Have i gotten this right?
P.S. Many thanks to the creator for the plugin!
I dig the runescape music lol
OMG, I wish I knew how to use that.
Think god. I look at all those shape and was just confused.
Would have been nice if the dev updates the plugin to latest blender and ue mann
This is awesome, thanks! How did you manage to get the Rokoko data on the mannequin?
How can we make a character that can be visible by other people but only visible hand for me in fpp mode and also showing all body in mirrors
Good tutorial, but could your resolution scale be any smaller?
Haha my bad - I use an ultra-wise 2K monitor so the text comes up really small sometimes and there's no way to scale it up in Unreal/Blender as far as I know. I've recently started filming in 2K so I can crop in when needed so everyone can read the small text :)
I am a total beginner and it always happens that the arm gets twisted how do I avoid that?
The little red balls that float around are the elbow/knee targets. Move them around in space and the elbows will always point towards them :)
@@PrismaticaDev Thank you very much
is there anyway you can add bones in the part of like, Pouches and Skirt so you can add physics simulation in UE4? hope you have plan on this too. thank you
Yep, there sure is! The only reason I haven't made a video about it explicitly is because I know Jim is working on some great new features currently that will make it all a lot easier
This looks awesome! Can you show how to rig a base mesh to the Epic skeleton even?
Jim has a video on his channel that does this in less than 10 minutes! Highly recommend checking it out :)
@@PrismaticaDev Amazing! Thank you so much and thank you for YOUR content as well!
@@PrismaticaDev I hate to be a pain but I'm having trouble finding his video showing this. Do you have the link to that video?
@@TheJesusjones Here we go :) It might not be 100% up to date since it was with the preview version, but should help get you started. I know Jim is working on a tonne of documentation and videos at the moment so keep an eye out :) th-cam.com/video/ccbC8JNdXS4/w-d-xo.html
Looking forward to the animation videos? Any chance you'll do any without motion capture for those of us without a suit?
Absolutely :) The suit only has local translation so it can't deal with world-movement when the feet are off the ground so I'll be doing climbing/vaulting animations by hand, as well as any sort of quadrupedal animation. That being said, the videos won't be "how to animate X and Y and Z" but more of a "Here's some theory/technique you can apply to your animations" much like my Material videos :)
@@PrismaticaDev Excellent! Just what I've wanted to hear :) Love how you're able to keep your videos both focused, information dense and entertaining. Inspirational for other UE4 TH-camrs like myself. You got yourself a new patron!
Can you go over retargeting mocap onto mr mannequin? I've been stuck with the IK target bones screwing up the retarget.
Definitely something I'll be covering when I do it myself a bit more - it's a little bit of a process currently but I think Jim is working on ways to make it easier :)
Do you make VFX? It's really interesting to see you do some. Since most nice VFX comes from materials.
I certainly do! I've been doing a lot of particle systems on stream lately. I'll be showing them in my next DevLog video :)
Moar Animation stuff!!
Coming right up!
Is there any way to use this and keep it compatible with mannequin if my characters are stylized and have significantly fewer finger bones and only 4 fingers? For all the custom character rigging tutorial things I see out there none of them talk about removing bones but I unfortunately have to
Heya Seth! You should be able to remove bones in Blender without any issues - I've personally added about 30 new bones and it still exports perfectly, so I imagine it would work with less. If you just go in to Edit mode with the armature selected and find the finger and DEF_finger bones you should be able to just delete them. I'm guessing you're using mitten-style hands, so leaving the middle finger and thumb should be fine. I would recommend doing a test export to see if it imports properly - if it throws any weird errors let me know :)
i'm a mess creating animations :( i want to create my custom animations for Advanced locomotion system V4 for unreal engine, any help with this?
“That’ll be really HANDY” heheh also where did you snag a second hand rokoko bc I want one so bad!
I got it from Ebay! Literally the only one that was for sale in the world when I searched, and it was 1 state away from me hahaha
@@PrismaticaDev that was fate my friend, you know what you must do with it now :D
Would be cool to make weapon animations for mannequin and implementing in UE4.
I'll be covering exactly this at some point :) The easy method is to just attach a weapon/shape to the Hand bone in blender and then attach it in game at the same point/orientation, but I'm going to experiment with a floating bone for the weapon
@@PrismaticaDev Very cool if you do that series and i will watch and promote it.
Why did I not stumbled on this video earlier!?!?!?
Is there any advantage of using Mr Mannequin instead of cascadeur?
Depends on your workflow and style - since Cascadeur is a physically-based animation tool it might not be as suitable as traditional key-frame animation for stylized animations, but I can't speak from experience as I only briefly tried it.
@@PrismaticaDev Thank you for aswering, i'm looking foward to animation blueprint series. I searched a lot and yet don't have of root motion vs in place animation. Advanced locomotion system for ue4 uses in place and do a great job at being realistic and responsive controls, i'm a bit lost in this regard xD
@@leogamer98 I loooove what ALS does with only in-place animations! I'll mostly be covering in-place animations for locomotion and root-motion for things like attack animations where the footwork is important and needs to stay solid :)
How do you change from male to female?
how do i install it? no videos on youtube talking about how to install it and idk how to.
Just download the ZIP folder and then inside Blender go to edit - preferences - plugins/addons and install it :)
How do you add your own meshes to this?
I've just downloaded Mr Mannequin today and it looks nothing like this and is essentially useless. There are maybe 3 half-functional IK controls, I'm sure it's something I've done wrong, any suggestions?
Hey, great videos! How does MrMann1.4 compare to UEFY?
Hey Jordon! From what I can see, UEFY seems to have more comprehensive rigging tools (so, putting bones in a character ready to be exported into UE4) but Mr Mannequin is miles ahead in its animation rig and provides a simple and clean workflow for actually doing the animating. Could use both since MM doesn't have modular rigging for characters with multiple arms and quadrupeds (yet)
@@PrismaticaDev Great reply, going to dive in with MrMann this week! Thanks for the great content, I show my girlfriend your cat from like every video ha :P
If this tool really works I will help you financially but I downloaded and it does not install itself and the blender image does not appear anything when I open it to blender. Ok, I am totally new, I need help to run this tool I tried all what I know!
Thank you in advance!!!!
how do you make it l ook so easy, i followed you walk cycle and mine was snappy even though i followed yours to a t and yours was smooth
Practice practice practice :) if you’re having issues with smoothness, try getting the animation 80% complete without using many key frames, and then just touch it up with a few extra ones (like the feet positioning etc)
@@PrismaticaDev Thanks for replying back, i find i get VERRRRRY discouraged when thinking of making a game, i dont know why.
@@PrismaticaDev Also I really enjoy your videos, your humour and the way you show and explain things is really good!! It made me inspired to make a stylized fighting style game, kinda like "ashen" if you know that game
@@nothingspeaks Ashen is a gorgeous game! I think when you’re feeling discouraged just try and take things 1 step at a time and trust that it will all come together eventually
@@PrismaticaDev Thank you so much for your help, especially with your videos! I wouldnt have found Tree it or cascaduer or the mr mannequin plugin if it wasnt for you, you helped me save a whole hell of a lot of time!! I was wondering if you could make show how you made the animations? maybe in a super episode, if its not too much to ask?
This suit is 4K Euros :O
it's compatabile with ue5 skeleton ?
I -think- the latest version of it has templates for the UE5 skeleton. You could also check out Cascadeur, which is a dedicated animation program that I've made a couple of videos about which has templates for the UE5 skeleton
Hey that's not a mister, that's a mistress :v
I was expecting mo cap
Why is this channel Runescapey.... HMMM
The question is, why isn't every other channel runescapey??
U are so funny.
Why thank you haha. Glad you're enjoying the content :)
Do you know about physics-based character animation software Cascadeur(th-cam.com/video/JFuYJDpwYc8/w-d-xo.html)?
I've seen it! It looks really great, although when I tried it out I couldn't get used to the controls quickly enough and was already halfway through my prototype animations in Blender haha. It's something I definitely want to check out properly though
im crying why nobdy starts at the basics of the basic for complete idiots like me how to add this plug in
found it select the zip file, dont extract all and try every single piece
