    The Owl House isn't technically an adults show, I'd say its targeted towards the middle-school-realm of kids, but its definitely able to be enjoyed by such a wide range of ages. So much wonderful representation in that show.

    Another really autistic/neurodivergent coded show that I would really recommend is dirk gently’s holistic detective agency. Its so good and so autistic

    Edit: I forgot to say, it stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation.
    I've had TMS, which is done over 30 individual sessions, for treatment-resistant depression... it did not give me greater empathy. This is a good thing, as I already suffer from exaggerated empathy. Pretty sure I was on the spectrum before treatment, and pretty sure I still am on the spectrum after two full rounds of treatment. It did help my anxiety levels, for a time.

    A few books I can recommend:
    1. Tornado Brain by Cat Patrick (AuDHD character with sensory processing disorder)
    2. Something More by Jackie Khalilieh (ND author, character is autistic and POC)
    3. The Luis Ortega Survival Club by Sonora Reyes (character is autistic and POC; also has selective mutism and is self-diagnosed)
    4. Speak Up! by Rebecca Burgess (graphic novel, and I think the author is ND as well?)

    Love this video and so grateful for lots of the recommendations (and anti-recommendations that help decrease my incredibly massive TBR). Also so pleased to find out you have written reviews! TH-cam shorts is just not my format but I love your thoughts so defs gonna check that out.
    Do wanna say that as white trans people we need to keep in mind that HP and JKR were not unproblematic before the transphobia, and that antisemitism and racism were entrenched in it before JKR’s views on trans people came to light.
    Also will be curious to see if your opinion of WW is sullied with the second one and its sorta weird plot and non-consent situation, I wouldn’t recommend it 😬
    ALSO curious about your opinion of s2 OFMD and Izzy’s disability specifically!

    Pokémon has autism and ADHD coding EVERYWHERE across ALL forms of Pokémon media! Pokémon is my main special interest and all the autism coding makes it even more enjoyable and the characters even more relatable in my opinion.
    Also my other special interest right now, the DreamWorks Trolls franchise, has two neurodivergent-coded characters in my opinion...and they're the two main leads! Poppy is ADHD-coded and Branch is autistic-coded (and SO relatable) in my personal opinion and I will hold this headcanon till the day I die!

    the way i went from being so hyped abt ofmd s2 to not even being sad it was cancelled is crazy... s1 was genuinely awesome but sadly a part of me feels like a show doing a hamilton in 2022 was never going to end well

    Have you ever checked out Daria? I think she is on the spectrum but there is no concensus. A handful of episodes prove it it my mind -See Jane Run, Cafe Disafecto, Misery chick, Gifted, Through a lens darkly, Camp fear, My night at Darias and Boxing Daria make my case.

    • @Authentistic-ism
      @Authentistic-ism 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I got compared to Daria my whole life, before I myself had ever had access to the show. I agree with you. I think a lot of media from that particular time is lost to neurodivergent awareness. A lot of people my age, and the target audience for daria, are only just now getting late diagnosis of autism in middle age like me, if they're going to self-identify at all. I think a lot more of us are lost to awareness than we will ever find :-(

    • @Authentistic-ism
      @Authentistic-ism 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Do you remember how Daria had a padded room? I'm realizing this could have been a sensory thing :-) she was just being edgy to hide her sensory needs. Hot take.

    • @larryk731
      @larryk731 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @Authentistic-ism The padded room existed when they moved to the house - she just was given that room. The (now politically incorrect) joke was the former resident was a schizophrenic shut-in.

    I know the Disney princesses have their own playlist, but I'm curious where you would place them. I think it would actually be useful to have the canon and headcanons in two different playlists as well so they can be compared on the tier list.

    I like to think i'm a bit more informed on korean culture so to give my input on the kdramas:
    - attorney woo was a pretty big deal, all autism rep in korean media before then was all men, so to have female autism rep was amazing. The main problem came less with the show itself and its reception in korea, where woo youngwoo was basically just fetishised. There was a lot of fetishisation. That's just korean men being korean men, they're not the best (a generalisation of course). But the show itself was great, and I know the writer of the show also wrote a movie also with a young autistic girl, but i haven't seen that yet.
    - for IOTNBO, its uh,,, eh? Theres certainly things it does well, but regardless of culture if you ask a non autistic person to play a middle-higher support needs autistic person, it feels a little icky. I do commend the actor though, I think he did a good job for as much as he could.
    - I haven't finished this video yet so i don't know if you mention it lol, but the korean good doctor - its more questionable, it talks a lot about sion's autism being "cured", a lot of characters refer to him as robotic, but I will say those characters aren't presented as being correct and sion proves them wrong. I liked that it showed autistic people could experience romance and that neurotypical people can love autistic people without it being a fetish thing and all that. The show is old, so I feel like most of the misinformation can be excused??? plus autism aside its just a good show and I love it so yeeee
    - Again don't know if this is mentioned, but Move to Heaven is another kdrama with autism rep. In terms of the actual autism rep, Its uhhh,,, alright? I like its representation of autistic people using alternate forms of communication (geuru and his father use sign language to communicate sometimes), and I like that he often shows that he is capable of being independent. Autism aside, It's an incredible show that i highly encourage people to watch because its just incredibly beautiful in the way it tells stories about life and death, and its also very visually beautiful.
    Also worth noting, the whole "autistic characters should be played by autistic actors" thing, as much as I agree with that, in korea, there needs to be a bit of leeway considering there is not a single openly autistic actor, or just any celebrity, in korea. The closest they have is some newsreader or actor's son?? If i remember rightly. So I think it would be very difficult for any kdramas to find actually autistic actors. I would imagine autistic people would be discouraged from going into that industry, and if they do they'd probably be told to keep it a secret. That being said, i'm not korean, I just watch and engage in a lot of korean media, so I just have that to go off.

    special (no notes adult edition); it's pat (actual hate crime); stop making sense (GO NOW LIKE YOU SHOULDA 40 YEARS AGO)

    • @Authentistic-ism
      @Authentistic-ism 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I should clarify these are my personal opinions that come to mind. Special was on netflix. The main character is not autistic but one of his love interests is. It's Pat is an abomination of hate and phobia from the 90s Saturday Night Live sketch repository. While it's about an androgynous character I think they are heavily autistic coded and not in the good way. They even dressed like Temple Grandin for the costume. In regarding stop making sense, frontman David Byrne himself came out as autistic and I have discovered a new love for his music even though it came out when I was 3 years old.

    ok love this video and thank you so much for this but I have to know, why don't you like young sheldon? I personally find it to be often scarily accurate in terms of autism. is it because the time it was made in made it pretty misogynistic? which, fair, but thats partially alleviated by the clear care that the show seems to take in order to show that sheldon is misogynistic, but he is wrong in his doing so.

    • @disabled.autistic.lesbian
      @disabled.autistic.lesbian  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Honestly I watched it a year ago so I don't entirely remember why? But I distinctly remember hating it lol - I also hate Big Bang so it would make sense. Its placement on this list is more in the realm of "did I like it? no" rather than "was the rep decent"

    • @riv3rw4ter
      @riv3rw4ter 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@disabled.autistic.lesbian thats fair, it does do well in the representation department, specifically the inflated ego from constantly being smarter than everyone, which I can't personally fully relate to but its humanised and made sense of so much more effectively in young sheldon than people say it is in the big bang theory, although it is a little too much for many being basically a plot filled sitcom

    Do you mean Atorney Woo? I thought it was FANTASTIC! It is the western countries who made it so big!!!
    We all saw her as AMAZING. NOT liking a movie because JD is in it is silly, that means your thesis was, and could be all bias.
    Things triggering you, by doing this research, again makes is difficult for a person who gets easily triggered to do this job. You can't be bias.
    Again, being triggered about the more severe autistic person, that means you're not being fair to the people on the spectrum. To me you want every single character to be like you, but for people like me with several comorbidities, I don't feel that you're representing me. People who aren't like you will feel left out, if you dismiss us.
    I don't think that Michael Scott is autistic, he's Overt NPD. IF he's also autistic, it doesn't come across like that.
