  • A video showing and describing how easy it is to change the cabin (or pollen to Ford) air filter. Do yourself a favor and save yourself $70. Dealerships always get people with these when in fact you can have it done in less than 30 minutes.
If you found this video helpful and want to donate anything at all I would appreciate it. If not I'm still glad the video could help you.

Did this today, replacing the original filter after 80K miles in my 2012 Focus. It looked 10x worse than yours! Terrible engineering to make a simple filter change so difficult - you did save me $55. Thanks

Believe it or not, but these are the same steps for replacing the cabin air filter in a 2019 Ford Transit Connect Passenger Van. I couldn't find the instructions for my Connect Passenger Van but then I found this video and viola I now know how to change my cabin filter. Great video. Thank you for making and sharing it.

This is the best video anybody did on this. However, there is a trick to make it easier as stiffer filters won't bend and might actually get destroyed. The trick is really to remove the two fat wire plugs in front of the entry. To remove the plugs you have to simultaneously push in two little plastic pins on the left and right side in the base of the fixation bow of the plugs, then the bow can be lifted completely upwards and the plugs move out.

The SECRET to installing one of these in the Focus is.... kinda hard to explain. But basically, if you'll grab the short sides with your middle finger and thumb, and pinch them together, it will squeeze the new filter (acordion-like) into a (more or less) circle. THEN, you hold the now circle-ish filter up to the housing, and let go of the inboard edge of the filter, and POP! It un-accordions into the slot, all by itself.
That secret saves a little bit of frustration during this process!
You can also use this trick when you remove the old filter; because it's gentler than grabbing and yanking it out of the housing, it reduces the amount of dirt and dust that go flying onto the floor mat!
