      Get a set of socket wrenches, grab the 8mm socket with the extension and just loosen the screws up than the top will lift off with all 4 screws still seated in the top

    Thanks for this video.
    I highly recommend the proper tool is used for the upper right bolt. I have a 2017 Ford Focus, and with the tiny engine, there's just no way to fit and turn a wrench/plyers into that final bolt. Use the right size and extended socket tool, for your own sanity.

    This is a really great video! It took quite a bit of pushing and shoving but I got it all lined up right. I changed mine at 33,000 miles and that filter was pretty cruddy.

    Thanks - your video showed me exactly what I needed to know. I hear you about how air filters have changed back in the day. :)

    Thank you. A very useful video showing how the average person - me - can do the job.

    I finally found a somewhat easier way to doing it. Take the housing out of position and you’ve got enough room to work. Then easier to push into its tab and the screws line up perfectly. Then shove entire thing back into place. Tada dang toughest filter I ever had to replace. Whew 😥

    I wish I could like this twice just for opening the good with one hand. 🙌

    The A holes who put my filter couldn’t do it properly so there was dirt all over the filter since they left it half open.
    Thanks for the video I was able to do it myself.

    I think the next time we replace it we need to push against the left part not the right side . I did it the other way and it was way too much trouble. I think hope it'll be much easier .

    Just changed mine out ( 2016 Focus SE 2.0 L L4 ) and found out the new ones I tried are a lil bigger than orignal one and so much harder to put it in .I tried supertech , fram and even Motorcraft and they all a lil longer . Anyone else had a problem putting in new one ?

    Are all four bolts supposed to be the same size? Mine are and the two on the right aren't long enough to screw into anything.

    This was your chance to buy new tools. My OEM Ford filter just won't fit. I had to really jam it in and the upper cover wouldn't line up. Then I lost a screw when it fell into the splash pan. I ordered new screws and I'll have to try again. Same issue with my 2014. New filters won't fit. The dealership service charges $80 for a filter change. The cabin filter was a 10 minute breeze.

      On my 2014, it was a bit of work to get the new filter to fit, but it did. Just had to insert it and seat it fully and firmly onto its mating hose. Then it took about three tries to fit the top cover so it was properly seated and could be bolted back down. Yes, it was a tight fit, but it did finally go back together nicely. And ditto about the tools, I couldn't believe he was using needle-nose pliers and then an open-ended wrench, when a socket and extension were the obvious requirement.

    Does changing the air filter make your car run better or accelerate better?

    • @stevescam001
      @stevescam001 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your air filter is dirty enough yes it will. The point is to change it before it gets that bad.

    • @cruorem5775
      @cruorem5775 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      OO7 yes i changed it shortly after and it ran a tad bit better. Still I’ll never buy a ford car again.

    Didnt have the extender, just a tiny handle 8mm and of course it slipped and is down in there somewhere. Terrible placement on that last screw!

    Sockets maybe?😂😂😂 Those are needle nosed pliers initially, but they soon turn into a wrench. 😂😂😂 Look, I’m all for aspiring mechanics trying to save a few dollars and doing a few basic automotive things on their own, like tire pressure, checking oil, wiper blade, and light bulb replacement.
    You my good friend are taking a very big chance at stripping your bolts by NOT having on hand a proper BASIC automotive maintenance tool set on your car.
    Amazon sells them cheaply, or maybe your spouse or family member can get you one for Xmas.
    You seem like a go -getter and a great guy!
    But also remember, even the correct toll can be dangerous in an unskilled mechanic’s hands.
