Karen wanted to have children but Tom lied to her and never told her he was fixed so he couldn't have children, When she found out she did not want to marry him but mama made her. Tom was so mean he told Karen how can you have any children your just an old bag of bones. Karen seen how the real world was and that's why she could never fit in She was a very special Lady with a one of a kind heart. R.I.P Karen We all love you and can't wait to be with you on the flip side. Remember folks Life is like a box of chocolates, You never know what you get till you bite into one.
This is actually pretty sad, if only Karen had found a good guy , and not a fake, maybe her life would have been different and not have been taken from us so soon, she deserved every happiness, for all the gifts of song she gave the world and her fans, i still miss her and always will.
I gotta say, what a beautiful bride !! Feel really bad for her. She looks relatively healthy here. . She looked so different in the last couple years. That anorexia ravaged her in just a couple short years. She must have been in so much pain. Not just physically, but mentally as well. Karen must have felt so alone . As far as those that say, we did everything we could, Karen just wouldn’t listen. I’ve heard many of her friends ask if they did enough, one more word, one more hug .......never heard that from her family ......how do you measure how much help is too much help. I would have held her hand all the way, no matter how many times it took. I would not have let go. ........ I. Love that we have all these videos. So thank you for posting. But Karen really should be here right now........ Thank you for the music Karen, thank you for sharing your heart with us!!!!! You brighten peoples day everyday!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜

Karen, you looked so beautiful on your wedding day. Richard's song to you brought me to tears. Your magnificent voice is so missed! I am so sorry that you had to marry that piece of crap who could not give you children. Shame on him & he will get it all back someday. RIP Karen.

Seems like Tom just wanted the notoriety of being. "Karen. Carpenter's husband, plus getting A LOT of money per contract, then just bashes her, lied to her, an all around worthless piece of CRAP!!! Poor Karen didn't have a chance! I believe if he was TRULY loving her, she could've overcame her disorder. He just sent her over the edge!!!
Unfortunately from what I heard, her eating disorder began earlier on in her career, after reading a comment someone put in a news paper about her being a little big. She was a good person and shouldn't have left this world the way she did. She'll be missed by all her fans.
If you're a Carpenters fan, read "Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter" - it will explain everything about her marriage and her husband. He pretended to be wealthy (she wanted a wealthy husband so he wouldn't rely on her wealth) and apparently he never actually loved her. She was bamboozled. Would she have lived longer if she'd never met Tom? I think she still would've died young because of her family's wacky behavior, but Tom certainly contributed to her downward spiral.
The wedding was gorgeous but during the whole ceremony and marriage there was always the feeling something was wrong. We will never know what. I do know Carpenter fans everywhere wished the best for Karen and cared very much about her well-being. Few artists earn the love from thousands of people she never knew that Karen did But even those thousands of people couldn't insure her happiness.
Wayne Brasler I also got the uneasy feeling that something was "off" about this wedding. Nothing about it seem genuine. Like everyone was just "going through the motions". So sad...10 years after Karen's death it came out that she had been abusing synthroid by taking 10 times the normal dosage for Thyroid problems. She didn't have a Thyroid problem. She also abused laxatives. She damaged her body with these drugs. People with anorexia have a distorted image of their body in their minds. It's almost like trying to reason with an alcoholic or a child. They just don't have that capacity. Tom may have been a gold digger but she was not mentally or physically healthy when they married. This marriage was doomed from the beginning. Tragic ending to such a wonderful talent.
Karen deserved a much better man. Actually, I would say she deserved so much more from everyone surrounding her. But boy , did she make a beautiful bride.
Based on the photos and the audio,I believe the minister who married the couple was The Rev Robert Schuler. who, with his son, is the pastor of the Crystal Cathedral.
@2Catangel You look at singers and celebrities these days, not much has changed. There's still alot of pressure on body image, and you see women looking like a beanpole. That's why I love the play "Hairspray",when Edna sings, "And if you don't like the way I look, well I just don't give a damn!" Karen looked sad many times when she sang. She wanted to be independent, and wanted to break away from The Carpenter image.
I always admired Karen as a person and a musician. It is b/c of her I chose to study music with a major in voice. But I didn't have the courage to go out there and "grasp the gold ring". I had a meeting set up with a very well known manager/ composer. Unfortunately, I couldn't walk thru the doors into the office and possibly a career in music. Wish I had her courage. Karen I hate what "the business" did to you. Rest in peace. Maybe one day we will get a chance to meet and sing together.
Which one? I watched many docos about Carpenters but never heard of it. Actually, it wasn't said much about him, only that Karen married him at 1980 but their marriage survived only for a very short time. The reason why they split up was never told distinctly. Maybe he indeed was a con, but Karen has already been very sick by then, both physically and mentally, and it was very hard to be by her side at that time.
This marriage was DOOMED from the start. Everyone knew she was in for the wrong guy, but didn't have the courage to tell her. Another negative element in Karen's all-too-short life that led her to seek solace and control in not eating as a way to find balance in her life.
This was a marriage made somewhere other than heaven--by all accounts Burris was not a respectable person (which proved true in the marriage) and it seemed Karen was taking a desperate stab at freedom--Burris didn't cause or probably even precipitate her death--she had an illness that left untreated had the possibility of being fatal--she had been starving herself for years before she met Burris
@TheDorr71 Who knows what she would have been doing if she were still with us today. I'm certainly a lot of people would have loved to do duets with her, I can see her having been an American Idol Mentor if she were indeed alive and still with us. I will always miss her. I first heard her voice in 1972 or so around the time of the "Water Gate" scandal while visting my Aunt as a young girl. The airwaves was filled with her and Richard's music and I loved it.
@Angelbaby31able Have you read "Little Girl Blue?" Tom was after Karen's money. Karen's mother made her go through with the wedding even though she wanted to call it off. The only reason Tom's not talking is because Richard paid him off and he has a gag order on him.
@chuckmall If you read "Little Girl Blue," he WAS after her money, and Richard paid him off (plus had a gag order placed) to not talk about the marriage.
The settlement he was to receive after the divorce was 1 million dollars. After Karens death it is possible Richard may have paid him even more and made him sign a confidentiality agreement.
Thank you. Everybody only wants to focus on the sadness in her life and none of the happy. To hear most people tell it, she didn't have a single happy moment in the 32 years she was here and I just think that she would beg to differ.
Her eating disorder started in 1974 When she was younger she was put on the stillman diet. As for the newspaper article I heard that the reviewer called Richard hubby not Karen.
Everyone so wanted her to be happy and she knew he wasn't the one. It's detailed in Randy Schmidt's biography called 'Little Girl Blue.' Gold diggery is never attractive, especially in a man. I'm sorry she didn't have a long-lasting love. She's beautiful in these photos and footage.

Tom Burris was nothing but a con man. Karen was gullible. Karen was told what to do by her family, the record companies, everyone. She felt she had no control over her own happiness or her life. Read "Little Girl Blue". It's an honest biography from the friends and those closest to her. Karen never had her mother's love. Her mother doted on Richard. I've listened to the Carpenters when they first aired and there's no one that can touch Karen's voice. RIP.

The woman was happily married for 12 years, had THREE(!!!) children, her mother was one of the greatest producers in country who adored her, and actually made her a star in the most popular soap opera of the 90's that she wrote for her. So this is the example of the person who HAD love from every side, and still didn't love herself. Totally different story - the same end...
holly shit my mom was at this wedding and I didn't even know she was famous, my mom has elten nuten john and few pictures with karen carpenter after the ceremony. She had an invitation from a family relative with the groom. Think he was a millionaire, least thats what my grandma and my mother said.
The fact that her brother wore the same suit as the groom tells me that she wanted to flee that extreme musical brother-sister-love but he didn’t let her go ....
Whatever happened to this man, who didn't tell his fiancee that he had had a vasectomy and therefore, her dreams of having a family were crushed and who was only after her money. Real nice guy.......
Funny- she got married on my birthday and on the day that I buried my dads father. It was a sad day for much more than I knew at the time. It really is sad that the marriage did not work out well for either of them. I know it would have taken a very special man to take care of and nurture Karen as she needed so badly and apparently he was not up to the task.
Tom Burris is on Facebook, He now lives in Sedona, Arizona. His wife Lucie Burris on Facebook has photos of Tom on her FB page. facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009222492210
@ritter89 I'm sorry but you are seriously misinformed. I was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa in 1976. I wasn't on a diet binge, I was a lifelong victim of abuse and starvation by my father and once I reached 15 I was no longer able to become hungry no matter how hard I tried. When food got in my mouth I instantly threw it up. Nothing they did helped me and I was dying. At 60# they let me go home for a 2 hour family visit and my brothers smoked a joint with me. I ate for the first time - cont.
@redlion83 If he loved Karen...why then did he lie about his worth and withhold the fact that he had a vasectomy prior to meeting her (from a woman who wanted children of her own more than anything)
To afanof64: I'm so glad to know someone has the actual wedding video. Do you intend to upload it to TH-cam or any other video hosting website? Like many, many people, I would love to see it!
Anorexia was & still is very, very difficult to treat. HOW can you "teach" someone to love themselves & accept themselves-flaws & all? How do you change the image they have of themselves (true or not)? Why do some starve themselves to death but others eat themselves into an early grave? Karen wanted someone to "save" her...to "Love" her but she wasn't capable of loving herself. Tom couldn't save her. I never knew him but even bad people can fall in love and be loved.
There were people who knew her when she was young who said Karen was gay. But things were very different back then. It was not accepted or talked about. And she so wanted to please her family. Maybe Karen would still be alive if she was able to be her true self whoever that was and not try to conform or please everyone but herself.
@TheDorr71 Certainly that's said to hear. Often things are never what they seem. Karen was sad a lot of her life for various reasons. It's a shame that someone's comment about her weight would have such a life long affect on her. She is feeling no pain and no sadness now. In heaven she's singing like the angel she was.
@vincemealfull That's absolutely sad of him. Poor Karen. She deserved better. No, I'm not sensitive at all. It's just pointless. People swearing at each other and stuff just to insult each other. They're the ones that don't belong here.
I still cry for Karen to this day.

It's interesting listening to Karen's unemotional and detached repetition of her vows. She knew that the marriage was over before it started.
That much was very obvious 😢

@@hattiem.7966 That's actually stupid, ageist and a sexist remark regardless of her mother's apparent cruelty .

It's VERY difficult to remain in a marriage when one of the partners is addicted to something... the addiction is always stronger than Love.
What was his addiction? Besides her money, I mean?
Unfortunately from what I heard, her eating disorder began earlier on in her career, after reading a comment someone put in a news paper about her being a little big.

Yes on both counts!
Classy and beautiful

Thank you for answering my question. Wow, very sad ending for such an amazing talented singer =-(
Que linda a Karen nesse dia!
Estava uma verdadeira princesa, pelas fotos nota-se que estava muito feliz !

What part of "sickness and in health" don't you understand?????? Karen was wasting away, and he didn't do a damn thing!
"honor her and cherish her"-the heck Tom said 'I do' but never did it :(

@Angelbaby31able Have you read "Little Girl Blue?" Tom was after Karen's money. Karen's mother made her go through with the wedding even though she wanted to call it off. The only reason Tom's not talking is because Richard paid him off and he has a gag order on him.
Karen's mom gave Tom Burris the wedding album after Karen's death according to the book. How could someone like Tom treat Karen so badly. What a Jerk!
@chuckmall If you read "Little Girl Blue," he WAS after her money, and Richard paid him off (plus had a gag order placed) to not talk about the marriage.
How much was the cad paid?
The settlement he was to receive after the divorce was 1 million dollars. After Karens death it is possible Richard may have paid him even more and made him sign a confidentiality agreement.
She had a very happy life and a very sad life too.
Thank you. Everybody only wants to focus on the sadness in her life and none of the happy. To hear most people tell it, she didn't have a single happy moment in the 32 years she was here and I just think that she would beg to differ.
@aknowneemus - He knew how to cash the checks though.
Her eating disorder started in 1974
When she was younger she was put on the stillman diet.
WOW. Just found this accidentally. Didn't even know she'd got married. Throws a different light on her death somehow.
That's Rev. Robert Schuller of Garden Grove, CA.
1980 NO Support for Karen's Solo Album> released 1996 = 13 yrs. after passing away, it went Platinum (1M sales) because it was great! Quincy Jones loved it & tried to get A&M & Richard to release it 1980 > Karen was HAPPY beyond words! IF Released & NO Marriage to wrong guy > Karen would be with us today! How Sad it never happened while she was still with us.
@dllewiszz According ti those who were present at the wedding, they all thought that he was. They were stunned at his actions.
your world almost make me cry, and i totally agree with you
What do you expect him to say in his book? That he used up Karen's money? That's all he did.
He has a book out? Wtf? I need some good kindling. 😁
It is, he officiated @ the wedding held in the Crystal Room of the Beverly Hills Hotel.

This isn't Karen's life. Who are you talking about?
What you say is not Karen’s life at all. Anorexia nervosa is related to a distant cold mother.
holly shit my mom was at this wedding and I didn't even know she was famous, my mom has elten nuten john and few pictures with karen carpenter after the ceremony. She had an invitation from a family relative with the groom. Think he was a millionaire, least thats what my grandma and my mother said.
The fact that her brother wore the same suit as the groom tells me that she wanted to flee that extreme musical brother-sister-love but he didn’t let her go ....
Yes, it gave me the creeps the way she looked to her brother after their vows! Yikes! 😮
wow. thanks fro sharing!
@SuperLin55, I agree. I wasn't calling her a Goddess,someone else was,thats why I put it in quotes
She looks pretty happy for someone who was trying to call things off...?
She was a good actress too...😢
I thought I'm the only one who thinks that Tom bears some physical resemblance to Richard...
Most people know nothing about anorexia, only those who suffer personally and nearly die. 😞☠️
Does anyone know where Karen‘s best friend Frenda Franklin is in this clip?
i would say i cry for this
Richard sounds really good here.
Why in the fuck would you want to see a tragedy waiting to happen? Wtf?? (Kimmy Hawk)
Karen : Quiero ir al Cielo para verte eternamente .
@RonRizzy It is Robert Schuller right around the time the Crystal Cathedral was getting finished
*sad to hear
*effect
I have trouble seeing or hearing this.
@vincemealfull
That's absolutely sad of him. Poor Karen. She deserved better.
No, I'm not sensitive at all. It's just pointless. People swearing at each other and stuff just to insult each other. They're the ones that don't belong here.
WIFE Y HUSBAND emotionsss -- congratulations desde LIMA PERU
Is this Robert Shuller in the video clips?
