i love Karen's smile. Not only does it show how much fun she's having, but it also indicates how much she enjoys Carol having fun too. Her whole persona is so comfortable, welcoming, and warm. If she had wanted to, she could have overpowered Carol with her voice. She doesn't because A) she's a nice person and B) they are the guests. Hence, Karen behaves as a guest should.
Yes totally agree! What class Karen had backing off as a guest. She was such a huge talent at such a young age.She really could do it all.She was really funny. When I was a kid I just loved their guest appearances and The Carpenters t.v. Specials.I knew Karen was going to make me laugh.I was so fascinated by her and still am.
I appreciate your sentiment, but it really goes beyond that musically speaking. When ensemble singing, (two or more voices) maintaining proper vocal balance is paramount to serving the song. Only a lead voice would be louder, background softer. Here, all three are perfectly balanced within the medley, changing their dynamics as dictated by the songs and the parts they are singing. By the way, Carol has a very pretty and powerful voice as well. Best, Ed
Yeah, I fully get that from this clip..WTF? Those of us from 1971 had no concept of any of the sexually immoral crap to which you refer. Only shows how morally corrupt our thinking and actions have descended to in 2017.
Karen looks so great here, healthy and sounding great! I love that purple dress she has on, she looks like a princess! she always looked the best with the long hair and half pulled up style! GREAT TIMELESS STYLE

@nickxero2740Before throwing in your two cents worth of armchair criticism, you might consider looking at yourselves in the mirror. It is easy to put others down or belittle them when you hide behind fake names. Comments like yours contributed to Karen's breakdown. Since we like to critique other people's works, here is mine. Karen's voice can't be replicated and still stands out among her contemporaries, either in studios or on stages. So, before opening up your mouths and sticking your feet in them, you might rethink. 😎
It is actually good to see Richard could legitimately sing in tune live. There's no point in comparing him to Karen, since she's in a category by herself anyway.
are you kidding me? To sing the duet and harmony parts that he sang at a superstar level you need to nail the pitches with an extreme degree of precision. Richard and Karen are one of the very best duet teams in the business, with others being Lennon and McCartney, Simon and Garfunkle, The Righteous Brothers, Donny & Marie, the girls from ABBA. As incredible as are all those acts, legit, Richard and Karen top them all. Carpenters were a killer live act...they could nail those vocals live no sweat. That's what they do.

Carol was an amazing singer in her own right.
She often sang with guests, Julie Andrews, Beverly Sills, Steve and Edie. Loved her show.😊
Old fashion Love Song (Paul Williams) was originally written for the Carpenters, but they declined. It went to Three Dog Night.
It's a shame as it really suits The Carpenters!
Not sure, but didn’t Richard begin writing most of their own songs as they found mainstream success? Maybe that’s one of the reasons they declined?
