I tend to over water my plants, so I started mixing my own soil (potting soil, bark, perlite, and some charcoal). I mix these ingredients according to the plants need versus my watering habit. I also use slow release fertilizer. Love the videos🌿
Thank you so much! I’m going to do a video of creating your own soil mix in the new year. I think it’s about that time. lol. Thanks so much for watching!
I want to give you a compliment for your humbleness. You ask for advice, you take advice and you appreciate the people giving it. That is a very precious thing, not an easy thing to do, so my sincere compliments. I have never rooted this way, I love spaghnum+perlite so cant help you on this, but many people root their plants and cuttings in perlite, so its definitely a trusted method. Will hope for you that your plant in perlite will recover and make you happy again. (That would be so rewarding!) ☀️ And even if it doesn’t, don’t give up, try again with your new knowledge! Hearing what you said about Plush: I am wondering, how do you water it (since the soil was wet in the centre but dry at the bottom and you said the soil mix was a good one)? If you have like a bowl or dish that fits the pot, maybe try pouring water slowly all over the top of the pot, let it run out at the bottom and leave the pot in the water that came out for a bit (like 15 mins or so). Then hold off with watering until the soil is almost dry again. (Thats how I like to water my plants and they seem to appreciate it, no crispy tips, hardly any leafdrop and hardly any die). Of course there are many ways to do it and many ways work, so find what works best for you! A thing that I recently started to do… is amend soil mixes and pot sizes for each plant in such a way that they all need water at about the same time every week Maybe a fun thing to try when you start mixing your own soilmixes With a good soilbase, perlite and bark you can grow almost anything well! (Many more things can be added, its so fun to try things out!) Plant-doctoring is so difficult… it can always be so many things (overwatering, underwatering, inconsistent watering, root issues, light issues, cold airflow issues, airflow issues in general, lighting issues, humidity issues etcetc 😅). (See through nursery pots can help in seeing how wet the soilmix is thoughout or spot if something is up with the roots early on) Wishing you a wonderful day 🪴🪴🪴
Thank you so much for that compliment. I really appreciate it. Some of my plants are bottom watered but not all of them. Some just don’t soak up the water. And I know it’s not an issue with them not needing water. They do. So I have to be real selective. But you are so right. It is a trial and error thing with these plants. We shall soon see what the deal is. I will keep you posted. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I use a coffee filter at the inside bottom of the pots. It keeps small partials from coming out but lets the water flow through. Also it takes up less space than the clay balls in the pot eliminating having to cut the stem. Victoria
I am so relieved! But he was definitely overwatered!!!!! I think I’m going to stick to monthly for now especially with the amount of light he’s getting.
As I’m watching you with Plush , I looked over to a couple of my problem 🌱babies & thought 💭 yesss I’m about to check out your bottoms too . Wish U happy healthy results 💪🏽
Nice job removing root rots. Don’t forget to put your first philodendron inside a saucer or a pot with half in of water nutrient reservoir. Also another thing i learned over time which you have done on your 2nd repot: 100% perlite at the bottom of a pot will help bottom watering a lot safer and promote the root to work hard to reach down for water supply. It mimics the semi hydro propagation set up with the water nutrient reservoir.
Try using an aroid mix for philodendrons without peat. Just bark, charcoal, perlite, and a touch of fern fiber to hold a touch of moisture but won’t overload the roots.
Root rot is the worst! I spend a lot of time doing outdoor gardening in summer, and my indoor plants sometimes suffer a bit sometimes. This summer I ran into the first time getting root rot from under watering… And it was my Spiritus Sancti. But not a newer Spiritus, I had bought it in early 2023. So he wasn’t very affordable. It’s still the second most I ever paid for a plant after Philodendron Emerald Ice passed that amount last winter (it was only $5 more than what I paid for Spiritus back in early 2023). So even though I could go buy a new Spiritus for $50 at this point, I want to save him because he cost a lot more than that. 😂 For fear of rotting more roots, I decided to just put him in water after I cleaned up the roots. He still had just a very tiny root system, like three branches of root with no secondary root coming off of them. So far he is growing new roots off of one of those. Hopefully I can save him. I may have to re-asses and cut more off of the parts that aren’t growing new roots in the water. I figured that being in water I would be able to see what those old roots do to determine if they are really alive or not.
We’ll see how it does. I can change it in a couple months if need be. Hopefully this will be enough for now. I plan on repotting both of them in the spring. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
My Philo Congo Rojo cries little tears from the leaves if I over water, it's kind of cute actually. Super informative, entertaining and relaxing video!💚

You have a great vibe of support and the willingness to share your joy and knowledge of plants. I look forward to sharing the journey with you.
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching.

Very smart!!! I have some filters that came with some pots too.

Thank you so much!
So glad to hear Plush's roots are kickin it!! 🙌
I am so relieved! But he was definitely overwatered!!!!! I think I’m going to stick to monthly for now especially with the amount of light he’s getting.
The repots are going to help these plants recover and thrive.
I really believe that Richie. I will keep you posted!

You have to! Everyone is pulling for Plush. Lol

I was thinking, “where’s Steve glasses?”😂
Literally can’t see without them. So when I’m filming you might as well call me Mr. Magoo!
I was thinking the same too
😂😩
Definitely interested in this root powder. I hope it works well!
I'll keep you posted! Let’s see what it does!
Phew, I’m glad the roots on the summer glory were good!
Me too! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge! I’m glad I had the hunch to do so.
I really like using clear nursery pots so that I can see the roots and moisture levels easily. It may help with Plush
That is such a great idea! I'm going to try that!

Alright, domesticatum. Let's go!
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

It’s the peat!!!!!! I have a PPP and she is struggling in the store bought mixture that contains the peat. Thank you!
💚 Hey, I’ve been on the hunt for a big bag of perlite! Where did you find that amazing stash?
Hey!!!! I bought that at one of our amazing nurseries down here called Green Acres.
When I use root stimulator I don't shake it off. Also try we the wild micronoculator
I actually have that!
I hope this is the kick in the butt Plush needed :) Hopefully the fresh soil with all those new fresh nutrients will help!
Me too! Fingers crossed. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽. Thanks for the advice Mel!!!!
By the way, a moisture meter can be your best friend
I have one. I just don’t think it’s that reliable though. Lol
@ILiftPlants I used to think that until I started using it all the time. I have far fewer problems now
This sounds like a grear strategy for the domesticatum!
I hope so!!!! Let’s see what happens!

Yes. That will definitely give you a clearer picture without having to dig for a view. I wish you luck trying to save your plant babe.
How about Dom from fast and furious. Cause you need this plant to recover fast or you may be furious! 😅🤓
Hahahahahahaha. I like that!!!!!!!! That’s what it’s going to be!! Awesome! The domesticum is Dom!!!!!!
@@ILiftPlants love it!!!
Hello, I listen for your positivity and LOVE. ❤
you should have put 50/50 with the soil and perlite.
We’ll see how it does. I can change it in a couple months if need be. Hopefully this will be enough for now. I plan on repotting both of them in the spring. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Plush just needs to get *his act together! What is happening here?? 🤣
Right!
I think that soil is to dense
It was way too dense. The same thing is happening to my philodendron caramel. I’m making my own soil next year.
Put the first plant inside a plastic storage box “greenhouse” to promote CO2 and root growth.
I’m going to try that! Thanks for the tip.
My Philo Congo Rojo cries little tears from the leaves if I over water, it's kind of cute actually. Super informative, entertaining and relaxing video!💚
Yes. My philodendron prince of orange does the same thing. Lol
