Sarah tries to save Toby from the Goblin King Jareth who will keep him if Sarah does not complete his Labyrinth in thirteen hours.
From the movie Labyrinth starring David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King and Jennifer Connelly as Sarah (1986).
1:39 Bowie’s acting in this scene 🙌 his eyes tell it all. Jareth is watching Sarah go to all these lengths just for her baby brother, and almost entirely ignoring him. He loves her, and he wants her to love him back. He’s losing his grip on her, and it’s probably the first time he hasn’t gotten something he wanted.
Bowie is so multitalented. RIP legend.
The nostalgia is so powerful here.
I like the implied metaphor of this scene - Jareth can make supposedly impossible things real, even make an Escher painting exactly what it seems to suggest. "I move the moon and stars for no-one".
I watch the making of this. Freaking cool how they did it.

this scene fucked me up as a kid… I actually had nightmares about such impossible staircases where you had to figure out how to escape there. Bloody awesome movie! Too bad David Bowie disowned it and felt embarrassed about it. :/
Indeed. We are all entitled to our opinions he perhaps more so. I think he played it well and it was a great movie at the very least because it was an adventure/fantasy movie of a very different kind and appreciable by all ages. I loved thisd McEsche-esque scene.
It was this movie that introduced me to David Bowie for the first time. And what a great introduction it was.

It is rooted in that same genre.
The difference is that Alice was always asleep beneath that tree while she was enduring a boring lecture from her nanny, whereas Sarah seems to have suffered a sudden loss of consciousness ending with her collapsed on the floor downstairs.
This implies that Sarah maybe afflicted by a brain disorder causing her to hallucinate everything in the film based on the contents of her room and the story she was reading at the beginning.
No Jennifer's eyes can never be cruel. plot inconsistency i'm calling it.
It's all in the eye of the beholder.
What Jareth sees as cruelty is Sarah's conflict between temptation and familial obligation.
@@mnomadvfx I think, just sayin, Sarah really loves Jareth secretly, and is just using Toby to get closer to him. And she wants to be power crazed the goblin queen. Can't blame her Bowie could seduce me nd id never know or care. But love them all. And luv as always.
