  • @what_Love_Drew_forth
    @what_Love_Drew_forth 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you keep trapping those swarms and placing them back into your apiary you’ll begin creating a great survivor stock that is naturalized to your area. Unfortunate as it maybe when they get away only strong colonies make swarms as big as you mentioned. I would surround your apiary with 10-15 traps up in the trees. You’ll be glad caught some strong swarms when you start having an amazing stock of survivor drones to mate with your queens.
    I love your creativity by the way.

      @@horizontalbees3480 it's great to see different types of hives and how you work them. I'm still old school using vertical supers. I also work with Australian native bees which don't use frames. They make little honey pots called sugar bags. I love just to sit and watch them as they are so fascinating. Thanks for sharing 👍🐝🐝🍯🍯

    Hi Rickey, those hives are looking good! Couple of questions, do the bees have acces to all the frames in the hive?
    Wouldn't the bees expand faster if they were in the middle of the hive?
    I work with vertical hives, sometimes after winter the colony is right at one side of the hive and i always shift them to the center so they can expand both ways and build up much faster.
    Great video, love to watch a fellow beekeeper working in the bees 😊

    • @horizontalbees3480
      @horizontalbees3480  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you they do better in the center of the hive. In a horizontal hive you can really see them build in one direction and here they build towards the setting sun. The brood nest is always near the front entrance. Honey bees are so smart.

    • @horizontalbees3480
      @horizontalbees3480  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes my hives have access to all the frames. The only time I change this is if they are a new hive of bees and there are cold Spring days. Great questions!!

    Great video Rickey!
    Don't know how I missed it, TH-cam suggested it to me tonight and I knew from its title I had not seen it before. It was very interesting. Near the beginning of the video back to one side of that first hive you opened was a large tilled garden plot. Is that yours? Show us videos of your gardening too, that would be neat to see.

  • @NsellersUSMC

    Ricky, love the videos man. To up your cinematic quality, this is just a suggestion: on your personal hives that you do your videos on, make a cheap camera mount when showering frames. You can give a better view of the frame since you primarily work on this yourself. If you use a GoPro, just take some wood and make a "A" style cross bar to hold the camera. Again, great video!

      @horizontalbees3480  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the great advice!! I will let my wife know that she needs to buy me a GoPro ASAP.. lol 😂 love the ideal of making a cheap camera mount for my videos and I will be trying this idea very soon. Thanks again bee friend!!
