thanks habie for highlighting my mod. Still tons of work to do but i'm so happy people are enjoying it even in the state it's in. If anyone has any questions or needs help hit me up
VRIK for Skyrim was Virtual Reality Inverse Kinemetics (IK being an animation thing where bone positions and angles are calculated in the heirarchy that makes sense, so that say, you move the hand bone forward, the elbow bone rotates to allow that.) So I'm guessing it's just a BS acronym where they put F for Fallout instead of Virtual.
@@KD-_- it does. the physics engine for skyrim is far more understood than in fallout. it's all possible to get some of that stuff in but is going to require a mountain of work
@@RollingRock16 that’d be a lot of work, especially if you plan on including manual weapon functions and unique reloads. i’d say the best way to do it is to create a feature where the guns only functionally reload once the player has completed certain actions (not sure how that could be implemented), such as reaching for a spare mag, picking it up, and putting it in a certain region on the gun. maybe you could create a set of frameworks where the player has to put in a mag and rack a slide, or put in a mag and press a button, or put in a mag and then be done with it, and per weapon the framework and the areas and features of the operation regions could be manually changed. maybe the best route for things like pump or bolt actions is to modify the guns themselves to be single shots that only reload once the player has operated the bolt, but that would open another few issues.
@@themilkman6969 a lot of good ideas thanks. yeah it is very tricky since so many guns are so different. the hardest part i haven't quite figured out yet is how the animations work and how to get control of them. in theory i should have able to stop and start them at will but it's something i need to figure out. once i do then it's just a matter of hooking it up to the wands so that certain gestures or button presses near mag or slide meshes initiate it. i already have stuff reverses to fire off the whole reloading and also to control ammo counts in the gun and mags so that part will be simple to manage. so things like tactical reloads can be done easily. it's really just the animations that trouble me so if any of you out there know a bit about how the animations work under the hood and got some advice I am all ears for it.
90% chance FRIK stands for Fallout Realistic Inverse Kinematics. Inverse Kinematics (or IK for short) is a type of animation based on positioning, it's what makes animated character's hands stick to a table when they're leaning on it and such. The IK in this mod being your hand sticking to the gun as a support for example - you move the hand supporting the barrel and the whole gun rotates to follow. Forward Kinematics (or FK) is the other type of animation, based on rotation, this is what's used when a character waves or moves their arms/legs. In short: IK allows you to move one joint on a character and the rest will follow to make that movement work, FK allows you to individually rotate joints for intricate motions.
I had so much trouble with FOVR mods, Surprised you managed to get it to work well. When I walked inside a building my hands/shoulders were suddenly detached from my body and floating above my head when stationary and when I was moving it hovered infront of me blocking my view lol. Its a miracle they exist at all, especially FRIK, but dang... maybe I'll try it again.
modding bethesda games be like that sometimes. i have had inordinate amounts of trouble modding skyrim while others have a buttery smooth time, but fortunately for me and unfortunately for my sleep schedule, i am incredibly stubborn. i probably have more hours in MO2/nexus than i do in skyrim itself. hell, i learned how mod creation works just to fix a broken mod.
It takes a lot of trial and error. I took a Saturday tweaking and modifying load order and what not. Now it’s awesome to play. It’s just very tedious to get things to work. But I bet if you dedicated some time to it and tested it every time you add a new mod you’ll end up getting it.
I literally may be the only one who does this but when habbie drops a video I want until I have peace, and quiet and will not be disturbed by anyone and just vibe for 10 mins. Saves my mental state sometimes
I want nothing more than to have that fallout 4 vr experience with haptic gloves and a stationary treadmill vr thing. And an update that lets you actually reload the guns (but that would take some serious stuff. because the guns play an animation. Someone would probaby have to make a vr version of every gun.
Its incredible how little Bethesda cared about making a good F4 VR port. They want 60$ for a PORT and didnt even bother with making phyiscal items interactible, weapons 2 handed or have manual reload. I am surprised that modders managed to get that into the game. Means that the basis for it was already in it.
1:47 Hey that's me, literally ate dinner watching this lol Been wanting to play through Fallout 4 but I keep pushing it back. Doing it in VR as my first real experience with it could be interesting.
I've been following FRIK for a long while now, and as you did I found out it updated not too long ago. So I went down a rabbit hole of just looking up everything about it. I think the mod author has said he has ideas on how to fake realistic reloading and it won't take super long to implement it. So hopefully by the end of the year we will the Fallout VR we should have gotten.
If I'm not mistaken it's been a while since FRIK actually introduced the dual hand gripping (albeit as a beta feature of sorts). I can still recall using the Benelli M2 shotgun mod with FRIK several months back. What really put me off of playing was the lack of manual reloading though. Seeing a pump-action shotgun flip all over at high-speed while shells get automatically loaded into it was immersion breaking af. Unfortunately, FRIK seems to be having great difficulty in finding a way to implement reloading manually.
I was looking in the comments for someone else who also remembered being able to hold weapons with both hands. I was able to do it every since I modded the game like a year ago.
manual reloading should be doable now. at least i understand a good plan how to attack it. I have a lot of hooks reversed now that I can tap into the reloading system so once i get some more stuff done to make FRIK more stable it's the prime thing i'm going to work on
