  • In this video, I'll show you how to connect your Skywatcher HEQ5/6 mount to Stellarium and EQMOD via a native ASCOM connection. In this video, I assume that you already have EQMOD working via your SynScan hand controller or via direct USB on the mount. If that is not the case, please check out my earlier video on how to connect your Skywatcher telescope mount to EQMOD via a direct USB.

    He Wido, there are 2 very handy key combinations in stellarium.
    First is control+1 to slew after a target is selected in stellarium. The second is control+3 for aligning the scope with a star. Control+3 Will let you do a star alignment with as many stars as you want in that way

      Hi Remco, Thanks! For some reason, these hotkeys do not work when I remote connect to my mini pc via Teamviewer. Also ctrl+1 seems to work when connecting directly via my laptop, but ctrl+3 doesn't. Don't know why.

    Hello from Texas! Thank you for the very good video. Thanks to you, I now have Stellarium and my HEQ6-R Pro connected and can slew to specific DSOs. My only comment, and I hope you do not view this as negative, but sometimes you move and speak very quickly. For example at 2:39, you say to "click on this button" but because you do it so quickly, and don't tell us what the button is, I have to watch and rewind the video several times to see what "this button" is. I figured it, and am greatful that I have you as a resource, but if you slow down about 10% we can better follow your instruction. Aside from that very minor issue, thank you, again, for a very informative video. I have clicked the like button and subscribed. Wishing you clear skies!

    I was able to connect my new SkyWatcher pro to my computer for the first time ever last night! Polar aligned and everything!
    My telephone does not sync to the stars though. When I slew to a star it is not in the center of the eyepiece. I tried to Ctrl+3 but nothing seems to happen. Any plans for making a video about syncing the SkyWatcher?

      Stellarium can be a bit off. I'm also struggling with that. It made me switch to sequence generator Pro, which includes a platesolving option.

  • @HogarthsAstrophotography

    You can press CTRL and telescope number to start the slew on the object selected in screen. Ie CTRL and 1. It will also start tracking immediately after slewing has stopped. I don’t bother with the pop up screen.

    Hi buddy !!! Thanks for the info !!!... now... the telescope must start from park position... ok BUT what if there is a small deviation on it and when you look for the target is not exact or at least not very close? is there any way to "align" it ? (I have the same mount and Ascom working ok) Thanks !!!

    • @AstroForumSpace
      @AstroForumSpace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be able to use ctrl+3 and then align your scope. For some reason however, I never got this to work and if I want a perfect alignment I'm using platesolving in sequence generator Pro.

    Hello - Thank you the video. I am very new to all of this - so I apologize for these questions. But isn't there some type of pre calibration that needs to happen? How is the telescope aligned so that it has a good starting reference? I am not sure if I am making sense . Do I just need to polar align it and that's all ? What are my initial settings ?
    Thank you

    • @AstroForumSpace
      @AstroForumSpace  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In EQ mode, stellarium expects your telescope to be polar aligned - that's enough info for stellarium to point your telescope at the objects in the night sky. Polar aligning your mount will correct for the latitude position you're at, so the telescope can use RA and DEC coordinates to find your target. Note that with stellarium, and depending on the accuracy of your polar alignment, the DSO, planets, or Moon will be a bit off center sometimes. If that happens, you can move your telescope to center the object in your field of view, and then press "sync" so stellarium can adjust its position. Good luck!

      @@AstroForumSpace thank you for the quick reply - it’s very much appreciated .
      When I hear about “multi star alignment “ what are they referring to ?

    • @AstroForumSpace
      @AstroForumSpace  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a process on Celestron mounts if I'm correct, where you can improve the goto function of the mount by slewing to stars, then center that star in the FoV of your eyepiece or camera, and then confirm that position. It will inform the software and make small adjustments to perform a better slew to an object. Polar alignment is never perfect, so that's where the multistar procedure comes in...to finetune the position of the mount.

    I followed the steps laid out here and in your other video with getting eqmod setup right, but Stellarium keeps the configure button under telescope control greyed out and I can't click it. Any ideas why? I am currently using eqmod in simulator mode as right now all I want to do is test things out and see if I can wrap my head around using all this software. Does it being in simulator mode change anything? I did make all your setup recommendations there instead of the actual eqmod setup, so that should be fine. I would've figured I could still hook up it to stellarium just to try it and see it all work. Otherwise I'm not sure what else is up.

    • @AstroForumSpace
      @AstroForumSpace  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, I'm not sure unfortunately... May be the simulation mode indeed. Perhaps you could try to setup your mount during the daytime, download and install the actual ascom driver you need for mount and then try it again?

    • @Gofr5
      @Gofr5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AstroForumSpace Yeah I suspect having an actual mount connected would help. I don't have a mount right now to connect though, which is why I was using the simulation. I was just trying to learn how to use all of the software to see if it's something I could get along with and enjoy. I think I was still able to accomplish that. Thanks.
