    On your Pro 4 XD hub, make sure you remove the drive side end cap before you install the cassette so the tool will engage the cassette correctly.... It's buried on Hope's web site. I have P4s myself with Race Face 27s because I run 29x2.3s and like you, I am not a wider-is-bestest guy..... right rim for the tire. Another great review!

    Hope are excellent quality and you can just get any parts for them. My 26er wheels are just about coming to need a bearings change in rear so I’ll be fitting some quality SKF or INA bearings. will certainly be getting some for my next bike.

    That's a solid set. Would love to see a follow up review on how they ride. As for myself, I just bought a set of 24 id carbon wheels from Light Bicycle. Came to 1450g with DT240s so I'm pretty stoked for this season.

    I’m currently finishing my first ever and SUPER BUDGET dh build. I’ve spent 1300-1400ish CAD and all I need now is a shock pump, brake post adapters and a chain. And yes everything on it is new (except for fork (complete rebuild tho and a barely used frame)

    You will love those rims.. I had a set built up with DT350 and same dt comp spokes and also brass nipples. They have performed very well. For the riding I do I enjoy the quiet and the engagement is fine for my less technical trails. But as for the rims..love them ! btw, using Maxxis 29'er 2.3 tires. Profile is nice.

    You will love the Stan's wheels. I have the older Arch wheels on my xc hardtail and really dig them. On my Tallboy I have the Santa Cruz Reserve 25's and love them. Fast rolling with 2.35 Ardent Race tires, stiff yet compliant and a lifetime warranty. I believe Stan's recently came out with a carbon Crest and Arch?

    At this time, it's major cleaning and overhaul time for the bikes. The suspensions and forks have been tunned up by the local S4 Suspension (Montreal, Canada) and I transferred my drive train to my wife's bike (a Rocky Mountain Growler). Next after putting the bikes back together I will be putting on GX Eagle drivetrains on my son’s bike and mine. We each have a RM Altitude, mine is 2013 and my son’s is a 2016. I am also looking to find a junior bike for my daughter who is 10 to replace her Trek that is very heavy. So quite busy bike winter...

    Hi there. First of all thanks for your videos. Based on this one and what I need and my budget I have chosen the same setup. Still waiting on my wheels to be build, but I was curious if you still own and use these wheels and I want to know how do they hold up. I went with Arch rims, because I don't think I would like to ride with a tire larger than 2.50. We all try to build lighter bikes, so I doesn't make sense to me to use more rubber and bigger tires. Thx!

    How’s your arch rims now? My rear crest mk3 has cracks on the nipple holes. I use a hardtail. I decided to order the arch thinking that wider rims are tougher?

  • @johnbravo7542
    @johnbravo7542 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi LoveMTB,I bought the same wheelset,only that the rims are Hope enduro,with Hope pro 4 hubs and matching XD driver hub,and they certainly are great value for money,and I like the loud XD driver hub.people know that your behind them,especially as I ride most of the time through suburbia with highways,or busy roads beside the routes I normally ride.
    The only disappointment was only cosmetic,and that is why,in my opinion Chain reaction and the like have good sales,my hubs were ordered in silver,black spokes,black rims,as my hardtail is matt black frame,so my rear hub was unfortunately dull silver compared to my front hub,that was quite bright,I tried to polish the rear hub to match the front,but as I found out in the manufacturing and anodizing makes it impossible to polish,unless you actually sand back the hub,and I wasn't going to do that.But highly recommend the wheelset combo.

  • @rickmoz
    @rickmoz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi there did you ever review the hope hubs?

  • @Homunculuspl
    @Homunculuspl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Build a set of these, 27.5", 18 months ago with sapim spokes and novatec hubs. They came in at ~1800g for the set at a price ~300 euros.
    Ran them with 2.6" Schwalbe Nobby Nic and Rocket Ron for about a year then changed the RR 2.6" in the back for something more burly, a Hans Dampf 2.35" twin skin.
    The wheels are very good value, very light for trail use/light enduro and are still true to this day.
    I was worried that they would be too narrow for the 2.6" tires but I didn't find them to be, maybe cuz I don't ride too aggressive :)

    • @Homunculuspl
      @Homunculuspl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're very welcome!
      The novatec hubs are a mixed bag, the front one D811SB is good, as you would expect (not many things can go wrong with front hubs) but the rear one, D792SB has only 3 pawls that results in poor engagement. I think I'm using them outside their comfort zone which is xc/light trail but they're pretty easy and cheap to service, just buy the bearings and replace them. But at least they are light (unintended side effect of my xc background:)).
      I'm looking forward to your reviews on the Stans wheels and the novatec hubs! Love your work btw!

    • @jeremyoffshore
      @jeremyoffshore 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats encouraging that you've used 2.6's on the archs with no issues. I've been thinking about trying a set of Maxxis Forcasters in 2.6 once my 2.4 Onzas wear out.

    • @Homunculuspl
      @Homunculuspl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't do my homework prior building the wheels and I found out later on that for 2.6" tires the recommended rim width is 29-30mm so I was stuck with it.
      Below is a picture on how the 2.6" tires look on the wheels. I can't really tell if they're baloonish or not.
      instagram.com/p/BVO1g3MDQ08/?taken-by=iasi.xc

    • @Homunculuspl
      @Homunculuspl 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correction: the rear novatec hub D792SB has 4 pawls but still poor engagement and yes, the seals are not up to winter riding and washing regularly as I just looked and two of the four bearings have stickiness to them after only 671km :(

    Had Hope xc wheels with pro4 hubs on my Giant Anthem. Pro4's are not even close to Pro2 hubs by meaning of durability. I have changed few times a ball bearing in freehub (Shimano setup, not Sram) as it got rusted and totaly destroyed. The skweeky sound will tell you when its time for replacing that bearing. Now on my new XTC i have Stans Arch rims with dt swiss 350 boost hubs and Competition spokes. These combo works for me really well. No problem what so ewer for almost a year now. I am little bit less than 90 kg weight. Really could recomend DT350 and Stans Arch. I run on Maxxis forekaster tyres. Regards from Croatia.

    • @nenobike

      LoveMTB I had that setup more than a year with riding conditions were from dry and hot 30+ degrees to cold, muddy and snowy. I ride mostly xc but had some enduro experience as well. I do not presure wash my bikes, garden hose only and i really take care of my two wheelers, more than i should :)

    • @nenobike

      Update. Stans Arch cracked :(
      Rear wheel on drive side around the spokes cracked. Waranty was no issue but now i do not have confidence in theese rims any more. I bought DT Swiss Spline M1700 wheelset with 25 mm inner with. So far so good. Keep your eyes on those Arches....

  • @789oGaming
    @789oGaming 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have been thinking whether I should get this exact same wheelset for my 2018 YT Jeffsy. Current wheelset isn't the lightest one and the hub engagement could be better. Would this wheelset be good enough if it cost just under 500e and it would replace current Dt Swiss M1900 30. Manufacturer claims that they weight around 2000g and hub has 18 points of engagement. So hope's around 8 degree engagement should be pretty noticeable, I think.
    One problem though. I'm not sure if I can remove e*thirteen casette without some propriotary tools cause bike came none of them included. So can that casette be uninstalled and then again installed without e*thirteen's propriotary tools or should I try to get one?

    • @789oGaming
      @789oGaming 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LoveMTB I'm looking for a bit lighter wheelset with better hub engagement. Had M1800 wheelset in my previous bike. Nothing bad to say about them but 20° hub engagement was a bit too much in some situations. May give them a chance though. Bike just feels a bit more lively with lighter wheelset I think and M1900 30 isn't the lightest one available out there.
      I'm pretty lightweight (about 150 lbs) and I do mostly trail/xc riding with small amount of enduro but I don't do any large jumps or massive drops.
      Just watched them again. I think I need to get that lockring tool.

    • @ThunderStruckMTB
      @ThunderStruckMTB 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a set of I9 Enduro S and found them to be very high maintenance. The rear hub would creak and click after 150-200 miles, requiring me to remove and regrease it, only for it to return again..... I sold them after 9 months. My hope Pro 4s have been bullet proof, and I'm 225lbs all geared up.... only hubs I'll buy based on my 1st hand experience. My custom wheelset was built by Colorado Cyclist and I got Pro 4s, black DT Comp spokes, DT Brass nipples and Race Face ARC 27s taped with a Stan's valve installed for $587 shipped to my door..... I will only buy from them from now on.
