solid list, but surprised glistener elf didn't get an honorable mention. it's been the basis of some of the best budget aggro decks I've seen in modern and legacy and it's just very easy to abuse.
Well, it doesn't even compare to the unbridled power of Storm Crow. Can Gray Ogre block flyers? Didn't think so. Is Gray Ogre better than Goyf, but has the same CMC? Didn't think so. If you have 3 open mana, you should just play a Storm Crow and hope you can get Chimney Imp soon.
Don't forget Zephyr Spirit. For 6 mana, you get 6 toughness of blocking. That's awesome, and you even get to bounce it when you block! To top it off, it's a common, so you can get it cheap!
I don't know about you but I don't like to pause the videos I'm watching every minute, especially not on my ipad in full-screen mode. It's a pain in the ass.
And to achieve flying 50% of the time you must flip a coin on each player's turn. Heads means Storm Crow has flying this turn and tails means it does not.
Soulmender is my favorite one drop. A turn one soulmender can be insane because it just sits there, tapping every single turn, and 15 turns later you've leeched 15 life off of a one drop. I'm also a wild nacatl fan.
I remember watching Navritas stream Modern Gifts a few days after RtR was released online. This was before Deathrite Shaman really caught on big. After watching Shaman in action for about an hour I commented in the chat on how I thought it was the best one drop ever. Pretty much no one agreed. I knew after seeing those matches just how powerful he would prove to be.
I do see your point, I still feel that it should have seen more play. If you instead played a 2/1 on turn one or something, that 2/1 might be killed in a turn or two, dealing not much more than 4 damage (but probably more than that, obviously I'm just assuming). Also, your mana is going so much farther than your opponent's. Lets say they play a Thragusk, they still get their value but you are able to deal with their 5 mana creature with your one mana creature, even if they get their 3/3.
Vexing Devil, Monastery Swiftspear, Jace's Phantasm, Mother of Runes, Serra Ascendant, Wild Nacatl, Deathrite Shaman, Herald of Anafenza. There's my list of Top 8 one drops in no particular order.
Really Aether Vial is the card you see missing more than anything else if it were to include non creatures? How about the two best one mana spells ever printed BY FAR, sol ring and ancestral recall...
Meh he's ok but not fantastic. He only works in his own deck and isn't really as good in that deck as these guys are in a variety of decks, for the most part anyway.
Hey guys - I really like that you are doing top 8's again but listening through headphones this video was really disorientating. Using 'pan' is fine but usually you keep vocals toward the center (even if they are in different parts of the screen) because of the confined space the 'actors' are in. Getting some stereo width through panning is fine but try not to use hard left and hard right. I should still be able to hear a little bit of LSV through my left headphone and vice versa for Andy.
My top 8 one drops are not taking over formats but have that power level or power level to end games even power level to ramp, I would present a list like this... Elvish Mystic Bird of paradise Legion Loyalist Golbin Bushwacker Experiment One Boros Elite Vexing Devil Champion of parish I would like to extent on the power level's of these one drops in the right deck. Naya Humans. Champion of the parish, Boros Elite and Experiment One all have the extreme power level within the deck along side with Thalia's Luietent, Gather the Townfolk, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Helix. The power of this deck would involve the counters too so the power could be raised by running Harden scales. Mono Golbins. Legion Loyalist and golbin Bushwacker along side with another two one drops foundry Street Denzien and Golbin Guide and the Golbin Piledriver, Golbin Rabblemaster, Krenko command and Dragon Fodder. all have a power level of a mono decent deck. sideboard, Vexing Devils just for the burn abilities and even the 4/4 power and toughness if it stays around. Gruul Ramp. Birds of Paradise and Elvish mystics as they are many green one drop creatures but another ramp power i would say Llanowar Waste.
I'm surprised that vexing devil isn't on the list. One mana for either a 4/3 or 4 damage (20% of your opponent's life total), in my opinion one of the most underplayed one drops in magic.
I hate when people say Hierarch is better than Birds when they're two different cards. Birds gives you access to any colour while Hierarch limits you to three but gives Exalted. Hierarch isn't going to be played in a Jund deck but Birds might.
+Daniel Stokes consider hating things with less immediacy. Hes not saying its strictly better, just that its better overall or more powerful, which is surely correct.
offence or no offence, CFB did accuse him of something he didn't do, and even had the police search his house. would you want to go back to them if you were him?
Dark ritual isn't a one drop. But not because you don't often "drop it" on turn one. But because the term "one drop" implies a permanent. So, for example, ancestral recall isn't a "one drop". If the definition of one drop included sorceries and instants, this list would be almost entirely wrong.
Oh wow, no Elite Vanguard? Or even Martyr of Sands. White is known for its innumerable one-drop weenies and you only got one? Well, its a really good one, ill give ya that, but its still a bit lacking.
Disciple wasn't a card that could just be inserted into any deck and be powerful though. It needed a very specific gimmick around it. Most of these cards defined formats and could go into a huge variety of decks.
You should play yugioh. its more up your alley. a 3/2 flyer for 1 is insane. a 1/1 that makes three colors is better than a 0/1 that makes five lackey is only good when other cards are bad. and Deathrite shaman is the best one drop by a country mile. it has 3 relevant abilities, and has a solid body, AND can bee played in green OR black decks. It also very successfully blocks goblin lackey.
“...Yes, it was on purpose. We didn’t just sit down and decide that we were accidentally going over something again.” ... How does one decide to _accidentally_ do something?
What's so funny about it? In Naya Blitz pre-Sept. 2013 I got him to 3/3 on turn 2 numerous times. If he survived until turn 3, he was consistently 3/3 and up to 5/5.
When you play delver, you build your deck so that you can consistenly have a 3/2. yes. sometimes its a 1/1, but that is a rare occurrence. Heirarch is better than birds, because the green deck will typically want the exalted trigger/ aggressive body. Also, they BOTH only have two abilities. Exalted/Flying + T,: add one mana. delver WAS standard up until scars rotated. Shaman doesnt NEED standard, because its a powerhouse in MODERN Im not joking. you should try yugioh. its MUCH more your game.
I like that the audio is in stereo; when I wear headphones, I feel like I'm the potted plant between them.
thehorror2 Best comment I've read all day, thanks for the laugh.
need to revisit again, thank you swift spear.
also *cough* *cough* Vexing Devil *cough* *cough*
+Nikos Kinigopoulos Vexing Devil is nowhere near good enough
Can you elaborate ? ;0
it doesent take over formats like deathrite,birds/heirarch/guide
Umm... Ok ;0
If they did this list again now, Monastery Swiftspear would be on there.
Hard to say yet but he's definitely powerful
lazyassslothin She?
Eric Cartman
7 years later there's ragavan
@@shwift8789 lmao
solid list, but surprised glistener elf didn't get an honorable mention. it's been the basis of some of the best budget aggro decks I've seen in modern and legacy and it's just very easy to abuse.
1. Charging Badger
1. Fugitive Wizard
1. Fugitive Wizard
3572: Mistcaller
Yeez… imagine what they would say with darcy and ragavan
Charging Badger is best 1-drop
And Storm Crow is the best 2-drop.
Nathaniel Yoon
Gray Ogre best 3 drop?
Well, it doesn't even compare to the unbridled power of Storm Crow. Can Gray Ogre block flyers? Didn't think so. Is Gray Ogre better than Goyf, but has the same CMC? Didn't think so. If you have 3 open mana, you should just play a Storm Crow and hope you can get Chimney Imp soon.
Scornful Egotist is the best 8 drop.
Don't forget Zephyr Spirit. For 6 mana, you get 6 toughness of blocking. That's awesome, and you even get to bounce it when you block! To top it off, it's a common, so you can get it cheap!
Please keep the zoomed-in cards up a little longer so that people have a chance to read them.
+Zendrig how do people not know all these cards?
+Zendrig Erm... or maybe pause the video?
I don't know about you but I don't like to pause the videos I'm watching every minute, especially not on my ipad in full-screen mode. It's a pain in the ass.
Just pause the video.
or you could use this new fangled thing called google and when they say the name of the card you look it up
Hey guys, please keep this up, I really look forward to top 8 lists from you guys.
1-8: Half of a Storm Crow... A half/one with flying 50% of the time.
And to achieve flying 50% of the time you must flip a coin on each player's turn. Heads means Storm Crow has flying this turn and tails means it does not.
Watching this video in 2018, it is funny to see Wild Nacatl on there, and Death's Shadow yet to be a thing.
Orzhov & Gruul having a conversation. That's just weird.
You just earned your Planeswalker Spark.
***** can i have your babies?
Soulmender is my favorite one drop. A turn one soulmender can be insane because it just sits there, tapping every single turn, and 15 turns later you've leeched 15 life off of a one drop. I'm also a wild nacatl fan.
And Now we have Ragavan
We totally need Top 8, 8 drops! Or even Top 8, 7 drops would be fantastic as well
Glad to have top 8 back!
Hmm... what about disciple of the vault?
Modern 2022 Best One Drops: Ragavan, Dragon’s Rage Channeler, Monastery Swiftspear, Esper Sentinel, Death’s Shadow, Flamekin Harbinger LOL, Noble/Ignoble Hierarch
Obviously not the most powerful but my favorite one drop is Doomed Traveler.
Thank god Top 8 is BACK!
I do see your point, I still feel that it should have seen more play. If you instead played a 2/1 on turn one or something, that 2/1 might be killed in a turn or two, dealing not much more than 4 damage (but probably more than that, obviously I'm just assuming). Lets say they play a Thragusk, they still get their value but you are able to deal with their 5 mana creature with your one mana creature, even if they get their 3/3.
please do this again, I would love to see how Monastery Swiftspear measures up with these guys.
its top 2
BreakingPolicy yeah, with bloodsoaked champion taking number 1
@@furyofstorm101 Ragavan has entered the chat.
"Usually the best three-drops aren't green."
I would say that times have changed in that regard.
Ya, I've seen that play as well. Varolz is a great card.
Difficult list. There are so many op one drops.
Legion loyalist is my favorite. Dark ritual is also great.
I don't even play magic and I like watching these
No honorable mention for Vexing Devil?
there's the slight problem that vexing devil sucks
Steve Stamopz I highly disagree sir. He's absolutely nuts.
Steve Stamopz
if he sucked, he wouldn't be 10 bucks
Steve Stamopz sucks to play against in red-deck wins XD
Vexing devil is horrible because they will never take four damage then bolt or remove it a different way
No haste=no value
Vexing Devil, Monastery Swiftspear, Jace's Phantasm, Mother of Runes, Serra Ascendant, Wild Nacatl, Deathrite Shaman, Herald of Anafenza. There's my list of Top 8 one drops in no particular order.
so you're saying herald of anafenza is better than delver of secrets? even figure of destiny?
Maybe not Figure of Destiny but I do think that it is better than Delver of Secrets. Its more or less as good as Figure of Destiny.
herald saw no play, delver is seen everywhere, even figure of destiny saw more play. herald of anafenza isn't that great for a white weenie deck.
Just because it isn't commonly used doesn't mean its bad. When used properly it can be a really good card.
You're unplayable in EVERY format.
title of video should really specify creatures, otherwise i do believe Aether Vial belongs on this list
Really Aether Vial is the card you see missing more than anything else if it were to include non creatures? How about the two best one mana spells ever printed BY FAR, sol ring and ancestral recall...
That title on this video specify creatures it says "Magic TV - Top 8 One-Drops".. Keyword to help your mind it is the "drops"
Even when hes not here tsg still steals the show
Champion of the parish is needed in the top8 i think! yhank's for the nice vid!
Meh he's ok but not fantastic. He only works in his own deck and isn't really as good in that deck as these guys are in a variety of decks, for the most part anyway.

No Goblin Welder?
Crazed goblin by far best 1 drop. It's a 20 turn clock starting on turn 1! Than kills dark confidant for goodness sake!
Great list!
If you are going back to old lists, you should rank the planeswalkers again.
wheres the old top 8 onedrop video?
''It's pretty hard to go wrong with deathrite... '' Oh, LSV.
I was just wondering if they did a top One-Drops, and there is appeared on the side of TH-cam.
Oh boy, if only they could have seen the 1 drops now.
i feel like mogg fanatic should be on this list with the old rules and damage on the stack
That was nice but I'm sure that more ENERGY would be appreciated by all!
Thank you! :)
My top 8 one drops are not taking over formats but have that power level or power level to end games even power level to ramp, I would present a list like this...
Elvish Mystic
Bird of paradise
Legion Loyalist
Golbin Bushwacker
Experiment One
Boros Elite
Vexing Devil
Champion of parish
I would like to extent on the power level's of these one drops in the right deck.
Naya Humans. Champion of the parish, Boros Elite and Experiment One all have the extreme power level within the deck along side with Thalia's Luietent, Gather the Townfolk,
Lightning Bolt, Lightning Helix.
Revisit Top 8 Conley Woods cards!
where is the old list, can't seem to find it.
I'm surprised that vexing devil isn't on the list. One mana for either a 4/3 or 4 damage (20% of your opponent's life total), in my opinion one of the most underplayed one drops in magic.
jace's phantasam? 5/5 flying 1 drop long as 10 cards are in opp graveyard is amazing. can be done by turn 2 with good hand
well, that can happen only in deck that doesn't really want big creatures. it really is not that good
in pretty much any mill deck that eve splashes blue it's good
A quote I heard at a recent tournament I found quite entertaining "Deathrite Shaman, the one drop Planeswalker". think about it.
New Magic top 8!! Huzzah!!
I would add Blisterpod to that list on place 9
Seconded
I wish they restarted the series again
If I could get this vid to play, I would like to see if vexing devil is on here.
Top 8 Planeswalkers, do it!
metalworker should definatley be on your "kill on sight" list
I don't see a G 1/1 colorless mana producer in this list, can you help me out?
All the top 8
All the time
What about experiment one. It's the king of standard right now.
isn't vexing devil the best one drop creature for burn decks?
I wonder if this list would be different now.
Vexing devil isn't it good?
top 1 drop of any white edh is serra ascendant ;3
dark ritual isn't a one drop. It costs one mana, but that doesn't mean you would always just "drop it" when you have one mana
Questionable list as to why you would put a G 1/1 colorless mana producer instead of Avacyn's pilgrim or Arbor Elf
Exactly 5 years ago
One does not simply decide to do something unintentionally
Obviously suntail hawk
I was thinking Champion of Parish would be on the list.
just nuts how few of these cards are even relevant these days
What about tourtured spirit
what about vexing devil?
I hate when people say Hierarch is better than Birds when they're two different cards. Birds gives you access to any colour while Hierarch limits you to three but gives Exalted. Hierarch isn't going to be played in a Jund deck but Birds might.
Hierarch is better then Birds though. The exalted beats the two extra colors hands down
+Daniel Stokes consider hating things with less immediacy. Hes not saying its strictly better, just that its better overall or more powerful, which is surely correct.
Right now I'm using Vexing Devil with Varolz and it makes them regret their decision.
this was before the nightmare that is deaths shadow
offence or no offence, CFB did accuse him of something he didn't do, and even had the police search his house. would you want to go back to them if you were him?
Vexing Devil is the best one drop for aggro decks and burn decks BUT K
Dark ritual isn't a one drop. But not because you don't often "drop it" on turn one. But because the term "one drop" implies a permanent. So, for example, ancestral recall isn't a "one drop". If the definition of one drop included sorceries and instants, this list would be almost entirely wrong.

#1: 1993
Dark ritual creature effect in Green what?
You should play yugioh. its more up your alley.
a 3/2 flyer for 1 is insane.
a 1/1 that makes three colors is better than a 0/1 that makes five
lackey is only good when other cards are bad.
and Deathrite shaman is the best one drop by a country mile. it has 3 relevant abilities, and has a solid body, AND can bee played in green OR black decks. It also very successfully blocks goblin lackey.
Ranger of eos gets em all
*Ragavan has entered the chat*
Vexing devil should be on here somewhere
No Gravecrawler?
Doesnt see much play.
It did in standard.
To be fair Zurgo Bellstriker is seeing slot of play in standard and it's not up there
“...Yes, it was on purpose. We didn’t just sit down and decide that we were accidentally going over something again.”
...
How does one decide to _accidentally_ do something?
Where the hell is Champion of the Parish? He's super op in a mono-white Angel/Human Swarm deck
+Vaerthelmn 52 then shadows came
Vexing Devil?
It has been for a while now.
where is vexing devil from avacyn restored??????

What's so funny about it? In Naya Blitz pre-Sept. 2013 I got him to 3/3 on turn 2 numerous times. If he survived until turn 3, he was consistently 3/3 and up to 5/5.
yeah how much play does he see now? The one drops on the list are played in eternal formats and see tons of play.
Is there a better 1-drop for White weenie?
mother of runes? Even Figure of Destiny is better
rogue elephant!
Today DRC and monkey take up the entire top 8 lol
