Draft videos are posted at www.ChannelFire... Tristan Shaun Gregson sits down with Luis Scott-Vargas in this week's Top 8 episode from the "Magic TV" series.
Funny thing about the Tarmogoyf as a sideboard strategy: WAAAAY back when Psychatog was the top deck in Standard, a buddy of mine used to splash green for Roar of the Wurm out of the sideboard. No kidding. Opponents would side out creature removal, so he'd bring in Wurms and just win with recurring 6/6's. He won an invite to Nationals with it (back when US Nationals was the 2nd biggest event in the world each year). Same concept as the early uses for 'goyf in blue. Only 'goyf is much better. :)
I feel the tittle is misleading. Took you 7 minutes to get on topic, I don't know if this is the format you guys use this these videos, it just bothers me. Also a big thing that bothers me; cards you listed are just cards that go well with Blue, not cards non-blue cards that do the same job as blue like draw power, counter spells, bouncing spell ... Ect. I really don't know why you didn't put Dash hopes, or lapse of certainty on this list.
Some of these "non-blue" blue cards aren't even used mainly the way they said they are. Timely Reinforcements doesn't see any play in UW decks, mostly if not always in BW tokens. Not sure what's up with this list.
The Chicken Choker Magic started as a kitchen table game, and while it seems that wizards doesn't give enough love to the kitchen table anymore, many magic players still play at the kitchen table and have a great time doing it.
You sort of missed the point of this list - it listed cards that in no way violated the color pie, but were splashable enough to allow blue decks to run these threats and entire completely warp the meta or form the basis of viable legacy and vintage decks today. These cards allowed blue to cover the weaknesses associated with the color - creature removal and game-breaking threats. Will, for example was powerful everywhere, but with blue's library manipulation, is a powerful vintage strat today
WOG, Rolling Thunder, and Cyclonic Rift are all mass removal, it's sort of a different card. Also, you can't use maelstrom pulse on lands, you can't disrupt valikut or earthcraft+squirrel's nest or stop underworld connections ... Also, d-shpere can't stop d-shpere and o-ring while o-ring can stop both. Dreadbore on creatures is worse then go for the throat or doom blade, and strictly worse then terminate. On plainswalkers, it's amazing, but, not every deck runs them, especially in type 1.
Stoneforge mystic allowed blue decks to never have to tap out. If you didn't play a threat, it would drop strong equipment that would carry the game. If they did play a threat that they couldn't deal with, they'd counter it. Check out U/w Stoneforge in Legacy as well as Caw-Blade in recent Standard (that was so format-defining that it got banned)
Man, LSV and TSG will do anything to dodge the constant requests for Top 8 EDH commanders. I guess next week, we'll finally get Top 8 LSV weight loss secrets.
We have a saying about Tacoma. it's "The aroma in Tacoma" . As a Washingtonian I feel it Tacoma is a shitty factory district but Seattle is beautiful and has things to do besides a glass art museum.
Kjeldoran Outpost, Nevinyrral's Disc and Icy Manipulator aren't getting any love. And all of those were a lot more important than Timely Reinforcements.
I normally enjoy these top 8 lists, but this one way just stupid. Yawgmoth's Will is blue? Will is brutal for ANY color. Someone's never gone Ritual-Ritual-Ritual-Will-Ritual-Ritual-Ritual-bring all your stuff back from the graveyard. Reenforcements, Goyf, Oath? No, those are cards with abilities related to THEIR colors. How about Wall of Blossoms? THAT should have been blue. The argument seems to be "If it's good, it must be blue." Top I agree with, THAT's a blue ability.
The point wasn't that the cities were bad places in and of themselves. The point was that the location and whatnot surrounding the GP location was awful.
Hey guys, i was wondering what you guys would feel about a pro-tour//GP in some oddball format... I dunno EDH or 4 man FFA multiplayer or something (you'd need a scoring system to be able to do more then one game in a match) I would LOVE to hear the pro's arguing the merits of a krosan cloudscraper over a krosan collosus:P
While this is a sweet list. This seems more "Top 8 cards that go in predominantly blue decks which aren't themselves blue'. Where as when I read the title I think 'cards which should have a blue symbol in their mana cost, but do not.' Some of the cards make both lists but still, I was kinda disappointed.
yawgs will sees play in basically any vintage deck that plays black, it just so happens all those decks usually play blue (duh). However, because of that I would say darksteel/blightsteel would be a better fit into this category. It wasn't until very recently that kuldatha made these cards accessible with anything but tinker. And come on, tinker.
Tarmagof? Seriusly? One of the most talked about and hyped spells gets 1st place? I had expected something new, something i hadn't heard 100.000.000 times before :/
I've been to Toronto once, and I was there for 2 weeks, if you don't like the place, obviously you are to lazy to walk around. Take stroll down Queen Street or York,
In Redding, CA thier are 2 awesome locations for BBQ. Fatty Daddys near enterprise high school, and The Brickhouse. The ribs at Fatty Daddys are fucking amazing, and the pulled pork at the Brickhouse is fucking amazing. Your welcome in advance.
I do not think Timely reinforcements is a non-blue blue card at all. Also, artifacts do not count, because artifacts can mirror any color in the set. They usually just do it for a more a higher mana cost because they don't have to marry to a color. The first card that comes to mind when I think of non-blue blue spell is mana tithe. I have to fully disagree with this whole top 8, for its the most subjective one to date.
I think they could have explained this a little better. I believe the intent was cards that go well with the typical blue deck. Not cards in other colors that have blue effects. So tarmogoyf is good for blue decks because it gives you a body for cheap. Temporal extortion would not make this list because it is a black card with a blue effect.
They explained it pretty clearly, it's "Top 8 cards that saw play or were used by base blue decks despite not actually being blue". Sure artifacts CAN be used by any color but it's not like mono red burn is really interested in casting a div top or an engineered explosives.
Goyf is a blue card????? i dont think so its as green as green gets. a creature with power and toughness that far exceed its mana cost is the polar opposite of blue. Sorry guys i think u dropped the ball on this list = ( ps i know u didnt put BOB on the list but he is also as black as black gets.
that red blast looks like a top
Non-blue card that is primarily used by blue? Island
This video starts at 7:00.
+IIDASHII Thank you. Christ, that was annoying
+IIDASHII Good on you bro I was starting to think I'd been had
Thank you! These guys have no idea how to construct a video. They should show the card being discussed the entire time and have time stamps.
LSV with the functional time walk
TSG - “borrowing” 10,000 arrows
Bless you

Mana Tithe, Temporal Extortion.
Some of these "non-blue" blue cards aren't even used mainly the way they said they are. Timely Reinforcements doesn't see any play in UW decks, mostly if not always in BW tokens. Not sure what's up with this list.
I've seen it in control lists if only for the life gain vs. burn. Other midrange UW lists as well, a.k.a. Geist of Saint Traft lists.
Caleb Evans The didn't include dash hopes or lapse of certainty because this video is about good magic cards not unplayable kitchen table garbage
The Chicken Choker Magic started as a kitchen table game, and while it seems that wizards doesn't give enough love to the kitchen table anymore, many magic players still play at the kitchen table and have a great time doing it.
I know Tristan got in trouble, but I actually still like it when it's him and LSV doing these top 8's.
List of Non-Blue "Blue" Cards you missed:
Islands
Moat
Harmonize
Any mono-black card that mills
Harmonize is in blue though so. It's color shifted and is better then the blue counterpart.
Well not exactly. In blue it costs 5.
No the blue version costs the same
were lands not allowed? Library of Alexandria?
So "Blue" means cards that should be played in blue decks, but they are still not Non-Blue Blue cards
Curtis Zaleski I sort of wondered that too.
You sort of missed the point of this list - it listed cards that in no way violated the color pie, but were splashable enough to allow blue decks to run these threats and entire completely warp the meta or form the basis of viable legacy and vintage decks today. I'm guessing it's because a lot of "U" decks splash green for goyf so they can get a huge amount of value out of the many spells they are playing.
Stoneforge mystic allowed blue decks to never have to tap out. If you didn't play a threat, it would drop strong equipment that would carry the game. If they did play a threat that they couldn't deal with, they'd counter it. Check out U/w Stoneforge in Legacy as well as Caw-Blade in recent Standard (that was so format-defining that it got banned)
someone stuffed up the graphics, they are talking about elemental blasts and senseis pops up again
Man, LSV and TSG will do anything to dodge the constant requests for Top 8 EDH commanders.
I guess next week, we'll finally get Top 8 LSV weight loss secrets.
*LotV casually scrolls by at $17.50, followed by Snapcaster Mage at $15*
If only I had a time machine...

Snaps will cost you around $50 each now, and you can sell they for $35+.
Red Elemental Blast (Sees Sensei's Divining Top again..........)
Trust me it checks out.
Do these really only come out once per week? It seems like they come out every day (that's a good thing.)
Starts at 7:00. Unless you like banter unrelated to the video, start there.
7:10 for the start of the top 8
We have a saying about Tacoma. it's "The aroma in Tacoma" . As a Washingtonian I feel it Tacoma is a shitty factory district but Seattle is beautiful and has things to do besides a glass art museum.
If this was in 2021, Veil of Summer
Yawgmoth was basically the first snapcaster
1. Maelstrom Pulse
2. Vindicate
3. Swords to Plowshares
4. Detention Sphere
5. Dreadbore

LSV totally nailed it on Tacoma lol! i live in Seattle and i hate driving thru Tacoma cuz you get that "Tacoma Aroma" newsflash; its not good.
Worlds in San Francisco had the Bacon Bacon Truck... Soooo goood.
No joke, I think these are good. What do you reckon the top 8 removal spells are then? Or name a few that would trump the cards I named. :)
Can’t believe you’d diss painter like that
How about Atlanta where you won a GP LSV? :b
true. I was kind of going for "effectiveness of getting rid of stuff, in a vacuum". I guess that's a very vague top 8 though.
best mtg channel on youtube by far!
LSV (if you see this): Henry's Hi-Life in San Jose, CA is pretty good.
"Top 8 Top 8 lists at episode 200..." :/
Kjeldoran Outpost, Nevinyrral's Disc and Icy Manipulator aren't getting any love. And all of those were a lot more important than Timely Reinforcements.
Stoneforge Mystic seems like a reasonable honorable mention.
Best EDH Commanders ... it has been asked for weeks now.
Sylvan Library, a VERY blue card.
4. Terminate
5. Doom Blade/Go for the Throat

Hey in Chico Ca, Smoking Mo's BBQ is amazing!
If you havent already done it, you should do worst rares of all time
The point wasn't that the cities were bad places in and of themselves. The point was that the location and whatnot surrounding the GP location was awful.
Top 10 Best Removal Spells
ah, i thought they would have things like the black counterspells and things like that... good list though.
*Best Creatures with >5 Power.*
Examples: Phyrexian Dreadnought, Aeons Torn, Etc.
Thanks I love cities
There's no reason they couldn't hold the GP at the Key Arena Events Center in Seattle. They have no excuse.
Faithless Looting. Love me a blue card!
Also, Oke Joe's is the shit!
Top 8 limited formats!
Criteria "Does not pitch to Force of Will"
As suggested, top 8 removal spells
I was going to be cute and say Psionic Blast, since it's a Red effect on a Blue card, but I don't think that's the point of the list :3
11min in and kinda hopeing all the graphics is top.
Tarmogoyf was my first guess when I saw the list name actually! And I never even got the chance to play with it :(
I love how most of the comments are by super casual players who literally do not understand what this list is about.
Dismember.
As far as the California BBQ, anywhere that serves good Tri-Tip is worth checking out
2:13, if ur watching in 2015 you'll know the deal.
I think it's about time LSV buys his co-host a new iPad. :P
Why haven't we thought of this before!?
JESUS!
CHANGE SEATS GOD DAMMIT!
Hey guys, i was wondering what you guys would feel about a pro-tour//GP in some oddball format... I dunno EDH or 4 man FFA multiplayer or something (you'd need a scoring system to be able to do more then one game in a match)
I would LOVE to hear the pro's arguing the merits of a krosan cloudscraper over a krosan collosus:P
Ok, good choices but where is Yeva Nature’s Herald.
Yeva came out a few months after the video release
Top 8 most sinister black cards, please!
Alternate art Red Elemental Blast at 10:40
You don't think 1 mile is walking distance? How did you lose all that weight?!
Yea that's right. Sweden is awesome! :)
Neither TSG nor LSV play EDH, so don't expect them to make a top 8 and talk about it.
no tendrils?
While this is a sweet list. This seems more "Top 8 cards that go in predominantly blue decks which aren't themselves blue'. Where as when I read the title I think 'cards which should have a blue symbol in their mana cost, but do not.' Some of the cards make both lists but still, I was kinda disappointed.
OMG, sensei's diving top "you spin this" wow LSV, just wow
Top 8 Draw Spells or Top 8 Discard Spells
No mindcrank or jar of eyeballs either huh??
They're comment about Nebraska just makes me want to leave this state even more, lol.
yawgs will sees play in basically any vintage deck that plays black, it just so happens all those decks usually play blue (duh). However, because of that I would say darksteel/blightsteel would be a better fit into this category. It wasn't until very recently that kuldatha made these cards accessible with anything but tinker. Top 8 sets
Top 8 1 drops (has this been done?)
How about top 8 "non-blue" blue cards.
Tarmagof? Seriusly? One of the most talked about and hyped spells gets 1st place? I had expected something new, something i hadn't heard 100.000.000 times before :/

Top 8 commanders!
top 8 fun cards
In Redding, CA thier are 2 awesome locations for BBQ. Fatty Daddys near enterprise high school, and The Brickhouse.
The ribs at Fatty Daddys are fucking amazing, and the pulled pork at the Brickhouse is fucking amazing.
Your welcome in advance.
Haven't seen the video yet.
Prediction: Tarmogoyf #1
Seriously? No Harmonize? I thought this list was about non-blue "blue" cards.. whats more blue than card drawing
Edward Gregory not everything is about card draw.
Number 1: Delver of Secrets
Anyone else feel like LSV is annoyed by this other guy? Maybe why they replaced him.
They were great friends. TSG was fired for allegations of stealing and selling cards from CFB
+isaiah tarver Not Allegations, the Ebay account was his.
www.channelfireball.com/home/announcement-regarding-tristan-shaun-gregson/
+azir64 that's so grim

Stop your bullshit fellow TH-camrs! You know what you want!
WE WANT TRISTAN AND LUIS TO CHANGE SEATS!
Sweden is awesome! Thanks :D
I want to see a list for the best 1 drops ever.
