    That turned out so nice❣️ I actually like the busy pattern as the details became very clear after the sanding. I really like the contrast of the center mat texture against the polished outer circle. I love the ideas you come up with!! And I love that you love black so much, too, it’s my favorite color. Thanks so much for sharing 🙏 and I’m glad you’re feeling better. Your willingness to take the time to share with all of us is greatly appreciated 💜🤍💙🖤💚 as your ideas and experiments are very encouraging
    and inspiring❣️💖❣️

I just received my first bottle of Magic Mix and find it very helpful in making my older clays just that bit softer. It’s really good stuff. Lovely work as usual. I love your patience when teaching and your gentle spirit. I really benefit from all the good tips you give.
    Kathryn, if you don't mind me asking, your pieces always sound like ceramic or glass when you put them down on your work surface. I have a glass work surface like yours but my pieces never sound like that. I'm wondering if I should be baking them longer. I usually follow the baking instructions on the packet for whatever type of clay I'm using, baking about 30 minutes initially, then 30 more minutes when I add the backing, for pieces that look about as thick as yours. Would you advise me to bake them longer or is it not necessary to do so? I really appreciate your help with this, it's something I struggle with all the time. Thanks so much.
    Ida Rogers

    • @KathrynHalstead
      @KathrynHalstead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ida thank you for your kind comments, I generally bake for 30-45 minutes but of course if some pieces are part baked then the backing is added, etc, then that could mean an hour for the initial piece. I rarely bake for more than an hour, I find for the thickness I use 30-45 is plenty. My oven is set at 125°-130° and is very stable temperature too

    Excellent tutorial as always! I also want to compliment you on your beautiful arm tatoo(or is it henna?) i usually dislike all tats but yours is like a beautiful lacy Victorian sleeve. BTW, I saw a mokume gane video where the maker affixed the piece, once stamped, to a curved surface, a bottle I think, which made the cutting part much easier. I haven't tried it yet but it make sense that would help to avoid gouges.

    • @KathrynHalstead
      @KathrynHalstead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nadia, its a tattoo, thanks, I've tried that method but holding the jar was most awkward for me unfortunately

  • @SunshineSomeday
    @SunshineSomeday 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would a craft, exacto type knife make the trimming easier on a piece like this?
    As usual, you do beautiful work. I've learned so much from you.

    • @KathrynHalstead
      @KathrynHalstead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Angela... try it ... does not work for me .... and to be honest i make it look super awkward as i'm trying to hold it under my camera at a good angle so you guys can see what i'm doing ha ha ha I do it much quicker and easier when not filming honest .... ha ha ha

    • @SunshineSomeday
      @SunshineSomeday 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can imagine that does make it more challenging. I use an exacto knife myself and can manage with it okay. But everyone has to do what's comfortable. You do such beautiful work....

    Another amazing video! I’m still new to polymer clay and to your channel. Sorry if you have answered my questions many times before. I try to read through the comments so I don’t ask the same question as someone else 😊
    But
    1) the green silicone, (as I saw in the description, an egg cooker), is yours turned inside out? Because when I looked it up they had “feet” on the outside.
    2) What is Magic Mix?
    Thanks 😊
