  • Anchored two miles up the Sandy Striates against Fraser Island to Garry's Anchorage stayed there for 3 Nights on anchor. Moved on down the Striates heading North. Ended up anchored behind Big Woody Island in a NW wind very pleasant anchorage for a couple of days.

I only laughed because I would have done the same 👍 of course you have to be diligent when your solo but when the opportunity arises to enjoy the serenity even for a short period take advantage.

I am taking notes on this part of your trip. With my family I have a catamaran booked out of Urangan for the first week of the next school holidays. Whale watching and enjoying the sandy straits is the plan. Turkey beach and Garry’s anchorage look like a couple of great overnight stays. Cheers.

Darren If It is blowing a SE wind sail down into Platypus Bay anchor off Wathumba next day motor out to see the Whales you rarely see them further in the bay. Have a great time Garry's will be full of mozzies and sand fly's in September good place to avoid.

Qld coast is great for the possibility of having a good anchorage every night as you sail along the coast. It would save getting sleep deprived (which is possibly not great for health). Good video showing Sandy Straits at its best here 👍🍷

Simon. I've finally worked out again how to add comments, so it's so good to have you and your amazing videos back. I bought a little day sailer the other day, this bloke came over for a chat and said "if you want to see the best sailing videos on TH-cam, check out Simon Carter". Surprise, I said, I've already seen them all about five times. Welcome back Simon 🤩⛵

Hi Simon, Turkey Beach is up past Bustard Heads Mate.
Sandfly City in there and very shallow in most parts. Fishing and crabbing in there really went downhill when they started dredging up in Port Curtis.

Thank you, Simon. A good video up the Sandy Straights. You must have a good microphone on your camera. It seems to cut out all the extraneous noise. Is it external? Jim on Sayshell.

Nice to see you back on the boat Simon. Where are you off to this time ? I sold a Careel 18 and bought a bigger Macgregor 26x but I don’t think we will be doing the big trips that you do !
