A lot of it I think is from the guitar personally. I tried setting up a similar rig like his and one problem is you cannot send the direct line of the distorted guitar output to any programs (such as discord or OBS) if you are using amp simulator tech. So I am pretty sure in order to allow input he has to use the box of death or some other device that's part of the guitar portion. The vocal mic itself isn't too crazy just going through a chain and back into the PC.
@@codymarshall5015 You can set the audio input of and Axe FX to OBS. It wouldn't make a difference if it's a miced signal into an interface or a modeling signal into an interface (Axe Fx being the interface), the computer knows no difference.
@@mesiebooga Wrong, maybe OBS would work because you can have multiple audio inputs, but apps like discord only have a singular audio input option which would be taken up by either the interface itself or a mic to talk making impossible to do both unless the interface can do all of it. AXE is more high end along with Kemper and potentially can get the job done if they have XLR jacks, but for anyone on a budget It's not possible.
I wonder what Corey's home setup is like? I don't know why but for some reason I imagine Corey's is much more simple - like literally guitar, cable and amp 😂
It was cool to watch but all that audio gear went way over my head. I've got my guitars and my combo amp, and I have my headphones and their amp. Everything else is a complete mystery to me.
I though my setup was complicated but holy crap ! That’s awesome Matt keep doing what you are doing buddy, and I love that block letter 5150 very nice !
I can't even imagine the process it would take to troubleshoot something if for some reason it's not working. Crazy set up I was always wondering what kind of gear it takes to make a streaming rig happen, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Matt, for showing this. I am planning on doing a streaming channel (not with music, yet) but gives me an idea of how step up might be for me. The room sounds pretty good with what soundproofing you have. The room is smaller than I thought. Once again, thank you for showing. On a side note, I met you back in 2007 at a Coheed and Cambria/ Avenged Sevenfold Concert at the UCF Arena. My friends and I were nervous when we saw you with Paolo. I came up with my Lake Brantley T-shirt told you that you are cool. I remember Paolo turning to you and saying (I believe jokingly) "You seem pretty famous around here." Lol. Thanks for the memory and I wish you and the band much success.
Matt’s kids’ voices in the background made me jump up suddenly...I thought my litter of children escaped their bedrooms! I was pleasantly surprised they were still in bed 🤘
7:11 it's a speaker coil dust cap Matt. Speaker will work just fine without it, but some dust/dirt or other particles might get in be twin the coil and speaker magnet which can create a problem in a long run. It's a good ideal to glue this dust cap back on(very gently).
That thing that sot off your speaker in the cab is the dust cover from the center of the speaker. You might want to reattach it to keep debris from the voice coil!
Thanks so much for sharing, Matt, this is amazing. Could you tell us more how video is captured? I have a GH5 and a G80 and I'd like to stream both through PC, but it's not easy without crazy expensive streaming cards, what do you use yourself? Do you stream in 1080p or 4K? Again, thanks for sharing!
I have a standing desk too. If you don't use a UPS, cable management's a breeze - just clip a power strip to the back and plug everything in there, then tie the cables up. When you use a UPS, huge pain in the ass. You aren't supposed to use power strips with a UPS AFAIK, as you might overlord an outlet, so you basically just haved to get a bunch of individual power cables that are long enough to route cleanly to the UPS when the desk is standing and tie them up properly.
I disagree with Wolf, but yes super excited for FF7 Remake :D!! Already been playing my 1 billionth playthrough of the original lol. It's my all time favorite game :)
Matt if you actually read these, try patching in a TC Electronics MimiQ pedal into your interface. It'll simulate double tracking rather than just a stereo guitar. Another method (but different result) would be to add an Eventide style microshift plugin (check out Soundtoys) to a stereo guitar bus. It'll help spread and thicken your L/R image and add some subtle modulation, it's a great tip for rhythm playing while solo.
Hey have you checked out the gen 3 focusrite Scarlett 18i20? It has a loopback mode that allows you to capture audio from the computer. You can also plug all of your stuff into that two headphone outs for both of your headphones. You can send a stereo pair out into your little Scarlett 2i2 to record into the PC and when you don't want to use the Mac you can set it to monitoring mode where all of the inputs can be heard without going through any software so you wouldn't even have to unplug anything.
@mattkiichiheafy i wonder how long it would take to sit down and draw out the diagram...lol.. "OCD" willing it wouldnt take too many revisions lol. i think i learned something from this video. lol. Thanks for the help and the hecka detailed video about how you get R done. super sick. \m/ has anything changed since the upload of this video? if so could you do a "UPDATE VIDEO" when your not busy///you know at your own leisure. lol.
Thanks for such an informative rig rundown :) been wondering for a while about how and what things work. Looking forward to seeing the guitar collection rundown, seeing as I can never catch the streams. Btw, did the guitar I made for you guys end up in your collection?
Question - looks like you’re doing analog out from the MBP to the PC. Why not use digital? So it would be a SP/DIF cable, can be optical or copper. That way the audio doesn’t get converted to analog and then back to digital again, it can just be transported digitally directly to the PC. Another benefit it both channels can go through just one cable. Just makes it simpler and prevents unnecessary A to D and D to A conversion. This is actually what AES and SPDIF were specifically designed for, going from one digital system direct to another, loslessly and without any conversion.
Hey Matt I’m in the army and I’m possibly going to be deploying to Saudi Arabia soon. I’m worried about how I’m gonna continue to practice and improve at guitar if I’m over there. I’m looking for a fun way to practice and play an electric without bringing a huge amp with me. What do you use for practicing while your on tour or traveling? I know things like iRig exist, but what would you recommend I buy? I want the best quality sound possible without breaking the bank. Also what are your opinions on a good protective case? What do you use to protect your guitars on tour? I want to be prepared in case they call us for this mission, I’ll only have 7 days to prepare once they do. Don’t know if I trust my guitar at home with my 2 year old running around haha. God knows my wife has her hands full. And if anyone has any experience with wether or not I should bring an electric over there with the sand and what not feel free to comment if love to hear your experiences. Anyways if you manage to see this comment thanks a lot. Love what you guys do.
If you're allowed a Laptop, you could bring a cheap Audio interface and play guitar through that. Neural DSP has some astounding sounding plugins that i use primarily when i play guitar.
Pretty much the equivalent of Spongebob teaching how to blow bubbles... "And then you do this, and that, and this, and that, andthisandthatandthisandthatandthisandthat, STOP ON YOUR RIGHT FOOT, DON'T FORGET IT"
How do you have one of the simplest live setups in metal but your room is like a living panic attack 😂
Right 😂 made my anxiety and ocd on edge!
The two keep each other in check.

Would love a guitar/amp collection video Matt!!

Jackson king V into a 5150... yeah that's probably it hahah
@@higler. and a tube screamer
Yeah it’s a tube screamer through a 5150
Check Corey’s instagram he had fuck loads of pedals and amps not to mention guitars and his favorite OD is that red Maxon
"I'm not very technologically advanced" ...... okay then :D
Always depends on whom you compare yourself to.
It was cool to watch but all that audio gear went way over my head. I've got my guitars and my combo amp, and I have my headphones and their amp. Everything else is a complete mystery to me.
Mytube6138 it must suck
I laughed at that part! I was like....riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
He most definitely had someone help him set this up
I remember how you used your Playstation to stream games.. How far you've come! Crazy!
Thank you for sharing all this with us, Matt ! It really is interesting.
Thanks Matt appreciate your taking time to make the video.
Love the Christmas lights you got strung around, adds just that much of a festive touch
You are well organized! Thanks for the walkthrough and explanation of how everything is chained.
i love that you keep a peavey xxx in there
I though my setup was complicated but holy crap ! That’s awesome Matt keep doing what you are doing buddy, and I love that block letter 5150 very nice !
You're an amazing writer, singer and guitarist keep up the great work and can't wait for the new album.
Well thank you for introducing me to Box of Doom, I'm probably gonna need to pick one up
Dude what's his electricity bill like 😂
I'm so impressed with how organized it is!
Holy shit, Matt! That setup is insane! I don't know how you keep it all straight, my head hurts lol
4:55
Matt: "So the big trick with bringing audio to a stream..."
Mark: *nods while attaching silencer to gun to end panic*
...this is brilliant. I have a very stripped down version as far as equipment goes. I could rewire to something similar. Thanks for this!
I can't even imagine the process it would take to troubleshoot something if for some reason it's not working. Crazy set up I was always wondering what kind of gear it takes to make a streaming rig happen, thanks for sharing!
Definitely wanna see a guitar tour of all of them
Peavey triple XXX!! Mad respect dude. Really underrated amp

Thanks for this dude. Have been wondering how to do it 🙏
Matt such a nice guy
Waiting for a Guitar Tour🤘
That is SO ridiculously awesome man!!!
You should do a guitar collection vid next!🤘🔥🙌
This was everything I expected from the way you describe it on the streams and then some 🤯
This is an insane rig! Awesome just Awesome...🤘
God, thinking about the amount of cables to make this work...
Never heard of a Celestion Redback.
Great to see this Matt, thanks
I've never feelt as anxious with any other video.
And I thought my rig was complicated... Watching this made my brain explode
Imagine trying to troubleshoot this shit if something bugs out
Looks very nice mate ! Love from Germany 🤘🎸
Dude Matt your set up has come so from the beginning! Only way to go is up from here :D
Thank you for your music! From Russia with Love! :-)
that is so cool! It must be such a headache to keep up with all that!
that is one beastly set up. gotta get myself a box of doom some day.
Matt’s kids’ voices in the background made me jump up suddenly...I thought my litter of children escaped their bedrooms! I was pleasantly surprised they were still in bed 🤘

You’ve come a long way since the beginning. Learned a bunch from this video and glad to see you’ve taken it this far! Til next stream
Love the kiddos yelling in the background LOL - that’s how it is for me!! Had at least one vocal take with my songs voice barely in it 🤣
Well I guess if Josh gets fed up producing bands he can build Twitch rigs.
Yeeaaaahhh Guitar Master Matt Heafy 🤘👹🤘
Gotta see the guitar tour
I came to see that that was in fact a Peavey XXX! Those amps are pretty stellar for the money! Don’t ever pass one up for $150
Man that was cool! Like if I came over for a cup of tea and to jam some tunes :) Sending love from St. Petersburg, Russia!

CREED GREATEST HITS?! I love you infinitely more now.
Do the lights dim in the rest of the house when you power up the studio room? Lol. Thanks for the tour and love the new video for catastrophist btw!
No way! I had the same problem with my red back speaker! Ended up getting 3 different ones before the dust cap stayed on haha
Hi, just curious.. did Celestion ever gave you an explanation on how and why this happens.

Same thing happened to my redback I glued it back on but it doesn't effect the tone it's just a dust cover

Those Triple X’s are harder to come by these days. Wish I would have kept mine :/.
When the rich kid invites you to his house
Seems like Matt likes Fit For An Autopsy, judging by the water bottle. That's so cool.
Based The Office background
Super tight set up. I like it. I need new sh...stuff.🤔
It´s crazy !! jajaj I love that Celestion ´s Box!! How do you remember each and every conection ..jajaja I just went mad !
John Browne for helping me with the box of doom/ Ahhhh! great stuff indeed! Which wood or stuff is the bo itself made of?

A copy of Ff-XV. Matt you just earned more respect points from me bro.
Thoughts on the 6505 plus? Haven't seen you in forever!
What does your triple x EQ setting look like? I just got mine and learning best way to dial it in still. Hope you don’t mind me asking
Exploding dust cap \m/
Yooooo me and Matt use the same gaming monitor what up
I see that Creed CD hiding there :P
There’s something pretty funny about the fact he uses analog gear for his twitch speaking mix

One day if I ever get money. IF!
That is the speaker dust cap bro.
What is with all that pointy foam on your desk top?! Bizarre.⁰
Is it warm in there? Just running my PC and amp keeps my office nice and toasty.
“That’s no moon”
I was going to start streaming guitar shit. But now I’m discouraged, I have a headache lol
matt looking somewhat like the rock XD ^^.
Something exploded off of it.. what the hell is this?!? Owell, still sounds good tho.
