    Well i finally found out why I love your video so much. Because you showed the rough times you've had when building a bike on budget.. Involving lots of patience.

      Thanks, I do try and show all sides to building, and to the fact that we're never perfect with what we do, failure is the way we learn and progress.

    Totally love the honesty of your videos: people often romanticise restoring or customising a bike / car but the reality is that it's NEVER going to be as easy as people like to think and is always going to have its pitfalls, disappointments and challenges. One of the key things though is to have a space that you can dedicate to The Build - somewhere you can walk away from and know that all is safe and you can go back to it later without it getting in the way of anything else. And I'm sure that having a Merc and a Porsche in the driveway, help deal with the challenges and disappointments! :) Nice balance of explanation without going too super-technical, plus you seem to have a super-power when it comes to using that camera and guestimating everything being in-frame! And the background music is at the right level too. Great work - look forward to the next update.

      Thanks, yeah there were some comments about the last video having music that was too loud, so I was conscious of that this time. Thanks for the kind words too, I think it's important to document the failures along with the success.

    Ugg..little things always bite the wallet when you aren't looking to spend. Glad you show the process. My e36 convertible has lots of little thing chewing up my cash. I got a chuckle when you reached a stopping point, but just shifted to a different "ongoing" project bike. Love it... You are a compulsive "fixer"... I miss my R100RS...

    Good day, I see that many viewers are keen on you getting started on the CX. I myself am also currently busy with a CX /GL Cafe Racer project where I'm busy with a single shock conversion. It would be great to see how you progress with yours. Hang in there and yes, don't rush as it takes a lot of planning as you said. Cheers,Joe

    Yes to the how to set points video. Would be a great help to a newbie like me since I have only owned my 1981 KZ1000 for a couple of months now.

    love your videos shows real person with little time doing a project not like on tv where they build a bike in 48hrs with endless cash and 20 works

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +james branski gosh I wish I had the time and money like they do on TV. But you're right. The true essence of garage builds are usually spare time projects

    You can just use gasket glue to reseal the manifold boot. Done it before and it works. They're quite expensive new!

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's the problem, I've bitten the bullet and got new ones, I did consider adhesives but I have a lot of broken bits also.

  • @TTB630
    @TTB630 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shame they broke! But at last the engine will be saved from sucking in dirty air :D Luxurious cars you have on your porch...

    • @forthebold

      Yeah that's definitely true, burning the pistons wouldn't have been helpful long term.

      For The Bold - dreegez Do it! and a GSXR front end would be amazing as well. Im trying to source a reasonably price set.

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's a definite, although I've been looking into it and it seems that a CBR font end is closer to a plug and play option.

    • @brian856
      @brian856 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For The Bold - dreegez Is it really? From my understanding the GSXR front just needed tapered bearings to work. I could be mistaken.

      I'll have to do more research, if you've read it is I'll double check.

    I feel your pain. every time i think I'm close to being done, something else breaks or fails just because it's been around so long

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think sometimes people forget how old these bikes actually are. This will be 40 next year.

  • @ErrtuZarathos

    Paint mainly don't hold fuel, you should use either tin/led and melt it to outer side of the tank or use chemical metal to it. Then paint it on.. you can't hold fuel in with paint. Oh, and make your own intake. You have model, just add 20-30mm metal tube and then straight rubber pipe.. Or is intake metal part is some kind of mixed up aluminium crap, just make it whole from acid proof.. should be around same price as orginals, but so much better in the long run.

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, figured that out, my fault for taking for granted the tank was ok, guess not.

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @CravingClassics 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For The Bold - dreegez I've used it for many things, and I can tell you it dries as hard as plastic, and you can coat it as thick as you like. Good luck!

    DO NOT fill the hole in the tank with filler it reacts and disintegrates with fuel, weld it just take cation.

    Awesome videos! I've watched most of the suzuki videos As I will be starting a build myself. I'll be converting a 81 gs550, do you know how or what front forks are compatible from a sport bike? Could it be an exact fit or would some modification be needed?
    Thanks!

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually they're not plug and play but here's a neat site which shows the list of all forks that fit along with the bearings needed.

      Ouch, considering the size of them they're expensive, but I guess a vital part of the bike.

      Part of it was, so when I put the seal in to block up the hole for the starter was. The rest was done last week after the CX strip down.

    Ever thought about doing a 2 stroke?

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would love to. The only 2 stroke I have is an 82 Maico Motocross, with a 490cc big bore. But I would love a 2 stroke road bike.

    Shity deal about the intakes. good luck finding new ones.

    • @forthebold
      @forthebold  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, but on the plus side at least I figured it out quickly rather than troubleshooting for ages, thing is those carbs have been on and off plenty of times but only now did they decide to go.
