15:44 "Diagon Alley" Good reference. Some say Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are similar stories. They are both The Chosen Ones who didn't know they were wizard and demigod, respectively; hence they are half-magical. They both have dark hair and green eyes. Their best friends are a girl and a boy. Harry and Percy go to a magical place to learn more about their magical world and their powers. Their paternal figures are negligent and mean and so on ...
That's actually a common formula, it's called "heroes journey", it's always about a guy that lives his simple life and than discovers he's supposed to be special and save the world, so him and his friends go on an adventure to fight evil. Not only Percy Jackson and Harry Potter use this, but also Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and many more
It helps that they both have the same director as well. Without half of those references, it would actually be hard to believe. This has the same basic story on the surface, but a very different attention to detail.

there are a few versions of Medua, but the two most popular ones go as followed: Medua was a priestess in the temple of athena, but was persued by poseidon who (as most male gods) wouldn't take no for an answer. After he violated her there are two main roades the story goes. one goes that Athena cursed her into the monster she became to punish her for "sleeping" with her enemy (yes Athena and Poseidon weren't friends, they hated each other), the other goes that she turned medusa to protect her from any more bodily harm from men.

The people who say this is bad live in an echo chamber. As far as adaptations go, it isn’t the best but the new series takes just as many liberties and so do pretty much all book adaptations ever. Regardless, I understand the complaints but simple fact is, you show this to people who haven’t read the books and they love it and as for me, it was my favorite series growing up and I still liked it. I think the second one dropped the ball though but still enjoyable to me. Would’ve loved to see how this universe would’ve continued. Can’t say you like things like the classic mcu and then say you don’t like this without showing your bias
I actually very much agree, while Book adaptation movies should stay accurate if they can help it, a series like Percy Jackson with so many parts and so many details can't really get them all, and besides this movie has its charms
Literally couldn’t have said it better myself, I was just commenting on how I think this movie was too over-hated. I saw this before reading any of the books but I loved it so much that I ended up getting deep into the book series afterwards. And I was not much of a reader as kid so if a movie like this is able to get me to pick up not 1 but 5 books then it must’ve done something right at least 😂
Except this movie took too many liberties. Of course you can't literally adapt a book to TV. But there's no reason to change the characters. Harry Potter wouldn't have worked if they had cast the 3 main characters as grown up teens/20-somethings and there is no reason to. It actually takes away from the story. Unless you want to reach a different audience than the ones who read the book. In which case I would say: write an original story. Liberties will be taken when adapting a story, but there are limits to that, which this movie blatantly crossed. Is that bias? Yes. But what's wrong with that? Everybody is biased on something. Take, for instance, The Shining. It is a great movie, one of the classics, with a great cast. As a book adaptation, though, it is absolutely horrible. Good for people they can watch the PJ movies without being bothered by the deviation from the source material. But it is an objective fact that these movies deviate far from the books. Nothing anyone says will change that fact. Are there deviations in the TV show? Sure. Can't be avoided, as we've established. But when those deviations are greenlit by the original creator it carries a lot more weight than some Hollywood producer who doesn't care about the story wanting to create a box office success.
The hate makes sense,The movie makes Hades as evil and abusive as possible while the book deconstructs the trope. Hades being evil is just Christianity pretending to be Greek mythology,in Greek mythology Zeus and Hera are the real villians.
After watching the show, I actually like the movie more. Its not as close to the books but has great effects, higher stakes, and lots of personality - which the show sucked at doing.
@@TooGood4Gamesv1 Nah, show is fire. It’s also a lot more comic accurate. In terms of suspense and action and that, it just seems less exciting coz they’re kids. So seeing a kid fight a god is nowhere near the same intensity as watching Troy or somet, but in terms of story they nailed it 👌🏽
@@sladewilson9718 I don't think the story is bad considering it works better compared to the movies with him basically knowing already how to do shit even though he's only known to be a demi-god for like a couple of days lol. Sure, the pace of it is a lot better. But at the same time it's just not for me, felt way too cheesy at times (probably because it's being more accurate and the fact that they're kids), but yeah idk, not for me.
I know a lot of ppl hate on this movie bc its not faithful, but i still find the movie enjoyable. I do wish we got an actual faithful adaptation but it seems even the new show is going to be going further away from the books.
The book series is what got me into reading. Watching this movie after reading those was so awesome. It sucks because the movie is nothing like the books but yet it is still fun. The new series is closer to the books but they make some changes that make more sense because the author was involved with everything. They just renewed the show for season 2 and I can’t wait!
I still have to read the old September 2008 script for this film, from before some of the changes to try and fix it. A ton of PJO fans started reading that a couple days after the Disney+ show's season 1 finale came out, and boy are the highlights I saw a trip. To quote Ian Hecox, it's hornier than CATS.
I like to think this is the best iteration of Zeus because how accurate it is to Greek mythology to an extent, Zeus is not a nice god and never has been, Poseidon isn’t a nice god either while Hades is usually a minding his own business kind of god but hey that’s Hollywood for ya
@@berengustav7714 typical Hollywood, every god that isn’t Hades: good. Hades: Bad. I’ve come to expect that from Hollywood so it doesn’t really bother me anymore

Watching this gave me so much nostalgia, love your content. I recommend watching Chicken Run, it came out in 2000 and it has a sequel, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, came out 2023.
In mythology, Medusa was a priestess of Athena she spoke for her at her Temple. People would come to see Medusa because it was said she was beautiful. Athena grew jealous. Poseidon wanted Medusa but she refused because as a priestess she was supposed to be celibate. Poseidon ended up forcing himself on Medusa in the temple of Athena, and so Athena punished Medusa for "allowing this to happen"
I saw this movie when i was younger, I was in school, mission was think differences between book and movie, it was interesting. This is only what i think but book is better. It was nice to see your reaction to this.
This is easily one if my favorites. Please seb if you see this you HAVE to watch the second one AND the Narnia series because thats my favorite movie series of all time
Glad you enjoyed this, despite it's reputation. In the words of a great win giver, every movie is someone's favourite. That being said, my friends and I revisited this film not too long ago and by god it is so much worse than I remembered as a kid. There are good moments, but it doesn't work as an adaptation nor does it work as a film. As always tho the reaction was super entertaining, and that's most important.
To those hating on this movie and the makers of it. Yes i would've also thrown out the book after watching the show. The show that is supposedly book accurate is the worst tv show I've watched in a while. Story makes no sense, acting sucks, anticlimactic action, too much exposition and boring as hell.
Love this movie I have been watching it since I was in elementary school never read the books but had lots of friends who did and just found out about the second movie 3 years ago
The second movie as well please. Other good stand alone movies I recommend are: -Lucy (love Scarlett Johansson in this) -I am number four -Inkheart -League of extraordinary gentlemen -Hancock -The Island (yes, again Scarlett Johansson) -Elektra Have a nice day
I just watched the Disney show they made of it, & I get why the author didn’t love these movies. They aged them up by about 5 yrs, and there is much more mythology, explanations: for instance the 3 Zeus, Posidon & Hades all agreed to not have more half bloods cuz their kids were just too damn OP. So Percy was kept a secret & out of camp until the other gods found out about him. Also, the little kid Percy has a lot more agency & the quest to find the holt get to underworld etc, is much longer. I didn’t read the books, but enjoyed the movie- but really loved the new series. I think you’ll have a blast with it after next two movies are done. Also… Hades wasn’t a bad guy in greek mythos, he was a more mellow god. He was all about neutrality & protecting the souls in his realms. Poseidon was always at war with Zeus, & the battle that kills most of the gods was instigated by Poseidon- just as in Clash of the Titans the Kraken is a beast of the water- and Aphrodite was Posiedon’s child, so when the queen & king said their daughter was more beautiful than the goddess Poseidon told them to sacrifice her to the Kraken or the whole city would be destroyed. It wasn’t Hade’s making trouble. But christian values have been overlaid over the old greek & roman myths, & they merged their evil Devil, with Hades. So now in hollywood, it’s always Hade’s who’s the ‘bad’ god.
Is this as good AS YOU REMEMBER?!
For sureee!

I actually very much agree, while Book adaptation movies should stay accurate if they can help it, a series like Percy Jackson with so many parts and so many details can't really get them all, and besides this movie has its charms
Casting is still better than that new series
I used to love this film, but since reading the books and watching the new show, I see the issues people have with it now😂😂 still a classic tho
A classic campy movie fr😂😂
After watching the show, I actually like the movie more. Its not as close to the books but has great effects, higher stakes, and lots of personality - which the show sucked at doing.
I'm ngl I watched the show and I thought it was pretty mid
Oooh! I love this movie! Let's gooo! You should watch the 2nd one and also watch more if the Jurassic Park movies and Helluva Boss! 😀
The book series is what got me into reading. Watching this movie after reading those was so awesome. It sucks because the movie is nothing like the books but yet it is still fun. The new series is closer to the books but they make some changes that make more sense because the author was involved with everything. They just renewed the show for season 2 and I can’t wait!
your cat is soooo adorable!! i smiled every time he came into frame.😭😭
love the films and show, haven't read the books
I still have to read the old September 2008 script for this film, from before some of the changes to try and fix it. A ton of PJO fans started reading that a couple days after the Disney+ show's season 1 finale came out, and boy are the highlights I saw a trip.
To quote Ian Hecox, it's hornier than CATS.
8:46 is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard
I loved this movie, like very much.
Great video as always. There is a second one called Percy Jackson: Sea of Monster.
the scene where they eat the lotus flowers in vegas and poker face starts playing is my roman empire
I like to think this is the best iteration of Zeus because how accurate it is to Greek mythology to an extent, Zeus is not a nice god and never has been, Poseidon isn’t a nice god either while Hades is usually a minding his own business kind of god but hey that’s Hollywood for ya
And this movie made H des the Devil of course.
@@berengustav7714 typical Hollywood, every god that isn’t Hades: good. Hades: Bad. I’ve come to expect that from Hollywood so it doesn’t really bother me anymore
I love this movie so much since I was a teenager!!!
Please watch ocean's 8 next 😭
People will shit on this movie but in my honest opinion it’s far better than the first season of the new show they got on Disney+
Hate me, love me… idgaf
Fun fact: 20:26 of you look at poker face lyrics it say f*ck her face. A lot of people never realized that and still played it on the radio
i can never bring myself to hate these movies, they're just so dear to me
This is the kind of movie you would enjoy if you have never heard of Percy Jackson, have never read the books, or have nostalgia
Awesome reaction of my favorite Percy Jackson movie!!!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
YES YOU TOOK MY SUGGESTION NOW YOU HAVE TO WATCH THE SHOW
omg I am sooo glad you enjoyed this. Please check out the second movie too
Watching this gave me so much nostalgia, love your content. I recommend watching Chicken Run, it came out in 2000 and it has a sequel, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, came out 2023.
10:12 literally Alexandra daddario eyes are soo beautiful and amazing she is one of the kind ❤️
In mythology, Medusa was a priestess of Athena she spoke for her at her Temple. People would come to see Medusa because it was said she was beautiful. Athena grew jealous. Poseidon wanted Medusa but she refused because as a priestess she was supposed to be celibate. Poseidon ended up forcing himself on Medusa in the temple of Athena, and so Athena punished Medusa for "allowing this to happen"
that one version of the story, in others medusa has always been a gorgon
I would love if you reacted to the second movie and the show to see how different they are from each other them.
I saw this movie when i was younger, I was in school, mission was think differences between book and movie, it was interesting. This is only what i think but book is better. It was nice to see your reaction to this.
This is easily one if my favorites. Please seb if you see this you HAVE to watch the second one AND the Narnia series because thats my favorite movie series of all time
Pls do the 2nd one !
15:58 I love the filter hahahaha
The guy playing Poseidon voiced Soap in the OG Modern Warfare series.
After the watching the new show , I can say that the acting and the overall emotions are so much better in the movies .
Love this movie I have been watching it since I was in elementary school never read the books but had lots of friends who did and just found out about the second movie 3 years ago
Next movie; mortal instruments; city of bones?! Same genre, very cool 😊!
Enjoyed this reaction a lot ❤
Don't watch the second one. Just watch the show its great.
The second movie as well please. Other good stand alone movies I recommend are:
-Lucy (love Scarlett Johansson in this)
-I am number four
-Inkheart
-League of extraordinary gentlemen
-Hancock
-The Island (yes, again Scarlett Johansson)
-Elektra
Have a nice day
Oh yes another childhood classic right here you love to see it
I just watched the Disney show they made of it, & I get why the author didn’t love these movies.
Sure it doesn't follow the book but it's not a bad movie tbh , people treat it as The Last Airbender movie adaptation for Avatar
your cat is so cute
Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters Next?
