Dried egg shell’s crumpled around the base of the plants help a lot with slugs and snails. It does need to be reapplied every so often.

I just wanted to share a little story with you guys. One of my most favorite human beings passed away in March she had been sick for a long time and we shared TH-cam videos as a way for us to say hey you I was watching this and thought of you. Kristi your videos on your main channel were some of her absolute favorite. We celebrated and cried when you shared you were pregnant we cheered when you had your collabs and the two of us absolutely love this channel. She never wore makeup she watched because she enjoyed you Kristi. She struggled with Migraines that turned out to be a larger symptom but she would send me a link and tell me how much she wished she could take your pain but how amazing you were for still doing the things. You once replied to one of her comments and you had a small back and forth with her and she was so excited and sent me screenshots. Watching and enjoying this made me miss her a bit but also brought me so much comfort. We’ve both watched all of your gardening adventures from the raised beds in the old house and the growing seeds in your dining room and I just wanted to let you know that You Matter you brought her joy and comfort on hard days and today even in the missing her I can feel that joy and comfort too.
    💜

A good way to prevent cabbage worms without spraying is to use a garden fabric. I use the lightest weight version from gardeners supply along with their super hoops. It worked like a charm! I had zero damage to my cabbage this fall.

When I was stationed at JBLM the last 3 years, I planted garlic and onions in my pots I used for my summer garden and then covered them with straw and did that for a "cover crop". cover garlic more than onions. Worked great for me and I was still using my pots for food.

Hey Zak and Kristie !!! Thankyou for the nostalgia today. My grandad turned his entire garden In London into a vegetable garden just like yours albeit much smaller scale because in tough times, that’s what you did. My grandad could grow anything and I mean, anything. He somehow made it work with the space he had and my childhood was spent pottering around helping him grow vegetables and fruit too. I just want you to know that the sort of life you are providing for your son is the memories that I absolutely cherish to this day. I learnt SO MUCH about growing your own food, how to respect the earth and how to reap the benefits of having clean, healthy food in your back garden. All I dream of one day is being able to do the same as soon as I get a house with a decent garden, I’ll be continuing the tradition of growing my own vegetables.
Small tip for you, my grandad used to cover veggies that like warmer temperatures with straw. Especially sweet potatoes, he would cover the top of the soil and let the leaves peak out. It probably didn’t provided frost protection but he swore that it insulated the plant and encouraged it to grow more tubers. ❤
He also did the same with strawberries that he grew in the ground- surrounded the entire patch with copious amounts of straw. He told me once it helps keep the fruit off the ground, and the warmth helped the fruit ripen faster!

Turn the pumpkins, watermelon and squash every few days to avoid them getting super flat on one side. There are also companion plants you can plant to help keep some of the bugs away, though I personally prefer raised beds so I don't have to bend over so much. lol And they're easier to keep the bugs out. Also eggshells and coffee grounds or pointy gravel are good for slugs as they hate uneven surfaces to travel over..

I'm a gardener learning and just a few tips. A natural pest control for slugs is beer. Put a little beer in containers and place them around your plants, the slugs are attracted to the smell of the yeast and climb in and then drown themselves(a little sad I know, but your veggies will thank you). 2 Always pick tomatoes when they turn yellow and allow them to ripen inside. My 2 cents worth😉

So my mom grew the sweet potatoes in the bag of soil so you can dump the bag at harvest and get all the potatoes out. So she didn't have to dig. Because you need to dig/turn the soil to get them out. Also I live in OK and we successfully grew them every year from a store bought one we let sprout on the counter..

You can hand pollinate corn. It should be done between 9 and 11am each day after the dew dries for a week as soon as you see silks emerging from the ears. On the top of the stalk is the tassel that contains the pollen. Snap off a couple and use it like a feather duster to dust the silks of all the ears. Start at opposite end of row each day for more even distribution. Sometimes in smaller crops, it's harder for them to pollinate if there's no wind or it's too rainy because they aren't all rubbing together in the breeze because there aren't enough of them. So if you hand pollinate, you'll fare much better. Each silk is a kernel of corn so get them all. lol You can fold them back from the middle and get it in there if that helps.

Garden & beauty are my two favorite genres of content. I love to see what you put out, no matter what stage of life you’re in. 💕

Hi Zack Hi Kristi 🤗 you did an amazing job on the garden last year ..can’t wait to see what you grow next year .
I adore your little hobbit shed it’s beautiful, I imagine you building a little hobbit play house near your home with little furniture for your kiddo to play on oh and your puppy 🤗🥰.
It’s great to see you take care of each other x

I have grown vegetables for many years and sometimes things just don’t work out. We had probably 20 to 30 cantaloupes this year and they all had zero flavor because we got too much rain at the wrong time. You guys are doing great!!
