      Yes you can buy a controller for it but the range would be limited due to the battery size not being particularly big. Look at a user Mavic instead

    update for june 2019, lily is now only $199 at b&h. Worth it as a cheap 4k drone for business use and just starting out on a huge budget? Will probably be either this, the zino, or the fimi x8. Leaning towards the fimi being slightly better than the zino at basically the same price as a dji spark. But lily at $200 seems like possibly a good deal too.

  • @DeadlyDiddly

    Another cracking in-depth review Ash, with info that others either weren’t aware of, deliberately didn’t, daren’t or couldn’t be arsed to reveal. I’m very impressed with the range of the Lily and the stability of the video, but at the ridiculous asking price who’d seriously buy one of these over a Spark or any of the other “foldie” options you mentioned?

    • @Droning-ON
      @Droning-ON  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DeadlyDiddly the range is amazing isn't it, for WiFi alone! I was very impressed but then I also expected it because Dobby performs the same and uses the same platform and probably WiFi chip.

    Nice review.
    I need your some advice and recommendation.
    Which drone would you recommend for the country where it is really cold in the winter (-35'C) and so hot in the summer (+35'C).

    • @Droning-ON
      @Droning-ON  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a drone with Lithium Ion batteries, as Lithium Polymer isn't as effective in cold weather. I can't give you any specifics but I am aware that Staaker is designed especially with LiIon batteries for this reason.

    awesome review video - it does seem like the next evolution of Dobby which has now been discontinued but it gained a ton of weight taking it to 400 grams - Im still on the fence about Wingsland S6 due to previous issues but at least it seems to be still a current live model getting updates and Im really looking for something less than 250 grams and foldable with excellent video

  • @psychomarto
    @psychomarto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for the review! Small ones became attractive for me now as in Spain now you can fly small drones inbeneath cities (up to 280g I think it was), but the control is a bit sluggish, granted, it´s WIFI and my Mavic is not particularly faster on WiFi, yet the Mavic has a controller. Hmmm... dunno, for the price, still too much, considering the spark... Your thoughts to this? Thank you as always!

    • @Droning-ON
      @Droning-ON  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +el_marto, as nice as Lily Next-Gen is, I think that I would be more inclined to push you towards Spark instead, the reason being that Spark has a far better camera, a mechanical gimbal, far more features and control, just a better option in general.

    Hey I had a question. I ordered a Lily Next-Gen and was playing around with it loving it. But I did notice when I capture video it is not in 4k. I'm not sure if its a setting I didn't enable that I couldn't find or what but I'm starting to think it doesn't record 4k HD Video as stated on the website -_- Starting to get bummed out

      Hi +Syho Daranikone, thanks for your comment and I feel your frustration, Lily is stated on the website as a 4K drone which is false, its camera sensor is 4K capable but the footage is downscaled onboard to 1080p only. The purpose of the 4K sensor is to allow cropping for EIS, there is no capability to actually capture 4K to the filesystem. I have raised this with Lily and hope that they will correct their website to avoid consumer confusion.

    How comes there's still no single video test in 4k from this drone on youtube?

    • @Droning-ON
      @Droning-ON  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment, I think that I mention this in my 2 reviews but whilst it has a 4K camera, the footage is only ever stored in 1080p. The reason for the 4K camera is to give the EIS (electronic stabilisation) capability, it crops the image down to 1080p so that it can pan and scan the image to stabilise it. I have complained to Mota about this, but they really don't care.

    Hi, I know this video was posted last January. But it seems that the automatic feature have been activated when you went above 70 meters. maybe because based on some videos I've watched said that if the wifi connection between your phone and the drone lost the return to home feature will be activated. so maybe thats what had happen when you weren't able to control your drone.

    Two comments...
    Price for original Lily supporters...
    I originally sent Lily $499 a month after their original offering...
    They kept it for a year and refunded it when they couldn't deliver...
    I bought the $699 version of the Next-Gen... with the $250 original
    supporter discount - I paid $450 for this one... less than the original
    Lily... worth the frustration and aggravation - TBD ... to be determined.
    * * *
    Fan on bottom...
    Is that fan an exhaust fan or an intake fan...?
    I'm not sure an exhaust fan would cause much problem...
    but an intake fan could be a very big problem... for dust and other
    lightweight particles that will inevitably get kicked up during takeoffs
    and landings. . .

    Great review... I have a Spark...
    I should place them side by side as well. . . (grin)

    Good and thorough review, honest as always. Seeing the app and the specs, I immediately compared it to my Dobby, too :)
    MOTA disappoints big time with their radio silence it is not to be expected from an American company.
    The Gearbest version seem discontinued, perhaps MOTA bought all the rights to sell it.

    First time I’ve watched one of your video’s, very good !. If I was buying a drone I would want it to follow me with video and a light for night walking then automatically return to its charging pad when the battery gets depleted or I get back home. Needs to be able to calculate its own battery life to determine its range and when it needs to leave me to recharge. Also needs to be capable of avoiding obstacles such as tree branches etc. But apart from those few things any drone will do !

    • @Droning-ON

      Haha you've described a drone from the future, but one day, it'll be here!

      @@Droning-ON I know nothing about drones, not really looked into them to be fair but I would have thought something that could follow, record and light the way on those dark winter dog-walking nights should have been the very first thing they would have been used for, Can't believe no-one worked out a way to link a drone to a phone and make it go home once it determines it needs to recharge. Maybe someone should let Elon Musk know...he will knock them out in Fremont for pennies

    Another great review. Too bad they re-branded and thought it was a better product. But over $600USD is really steep. Do you have a video that has good, bad and ugly drones? or have you thought of doing a points system review chart? Not really the Best Of, but some kind of point system on Indoor, outdoor, mini, Toy, Hobby etc? Just wondering.

    Nice review, but at £350 (= High Great Take) too expensive. App has somewhat resemblance to the ZeroTech Dobby (which I snapped up recently for £99, incl. a spare battery - and got two drones for that price, one as spare). With the Mavic Air out now, expect the Spark to be dropping in price. And when it does, might get one eventually.
    If the High Great Take goes to £150, might reconsider.

      Yeah correct, its because they all use the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset which shares the same app. Be careful updating firmware, you may actually have downgraded it rather than upgraded it because each rebrand has a different firmware versioning convention. Lily haven't published a single firmware update since launch, so the HG Take firmware will be far more recent.

      ..and to expand on that. WHAT is up with all these drone companies that release a drone that ALMOST fits the bill, not quite. They ALWAYS have some hiccup that is a deal breaker. Case in point - AUTEL EVO - Their lack of communication, lack of any REAL information when we have asked and asked when it is going to SHIP *(shit, just give us an ESTIMATE at least!! - all we get is crickets) that showed me how much they care about customer service, and as we now come into JUNE a FULL 6 MONTHS after they announced it at CES in January - is ridiculous. If the drone wasn't near being ready to bring to market, they had no business showing it at CES (product is still in development, not "about to be released". Next we are going to have people showing things that aren't even CLOSE to being ready for market, and in my opinion - for a publicly traded company, that is borderline fraud.
      If DJI did this, they would see a huge bump in stock value/prices. But if in reality their drone wasn't at all ready and it was just a publicity stunt to garner possible sales of company shares - people would call foul. At leastg DJI knows about how IMPORTANT customer service is. Cause if its total shite, no one is gonna wanna by your products. Who wants to be stuck with a $1,000 inoperative drone (fancy paperweight), that we are told to send in for repair.....and then what? We need to wait another 6 months for it to be fixed???? AUTEL???? I dont care how cool the EVO is, I WILL 100% NOT GIVE THEM the REWARD of my $1,000. Nor will I encourage any of my friends, family, or clients who ask me about which drone they should buy. I do technology for homes (integrator) i have LOTS of celebrity and very wealthy clients. They ask me what laptop they should get, what phone, what kind of drone, what TV is best, on and on.... If I could make $$$ based on my referrals of products I could retire by now.... no joke.
      AUTEL, you really screwed the pooch on this one!! FIRE your head of Marketing - cause HE/SHE/THEY S_U_C_K! I MEAN REALLY BAD. WORST CAMPAIGN EVER
      Who is gonna buy your EVO now? Most of the people already went and bought Mavic Air's or gave up waiting and bought Mavic Pro, the rest are holding out for the Pro 2. We all know that you have those EVO's ALL ready to be boxed up and go out the door... ...BUT.... ONLY AFTER DJI announces/shows Mavic Pro 2 & tells us when its to be releaed, and ONLY if the EVO matches, or one-ups in performance/features.
      Cause at this point, if they didnt - the company will LOSE IT ASS!!!!
      They won't be able to sell jack-SQUAT if Mavic Pro-2 KILLS all the performance and features of the 6 month old now, 6 month sittin' around doing nothing, 6 months of On-standby EVO.
      They will throw on a few performance tweaks to get a leg up, perhaps bit-rates on the 4k 60fps, perhaps do 120fps - whatever it is... I hope its a lot better than the shitty 100mbps 4k 60fps they had initially spec'd - way too low of bit-rate. I do CCTV for a living. 4k, 60 frames needs at least Double that bit-rate for proper color information, fine details, edges, contrast, low-light sensitivity. Images wont even be close to stellar at such a low rate. even with H.265
      Here's how DJI handled their delay with the initial release of the Mavic Pro :

      Here's AUTEL's awesome customer relation skills. I mean, I feel bad for this poor sod. Back in MARCH he honestly thought he was going to get his EVO in a couple of weeks. They even went on to tickle his balls and say "you are at the top of our pre-order list." Well, how very lovely mates. By April I should be zooming the EVO around,, .. no well maybe May, no. Well maybe June...... hey. Someone LIED TO ME!!

      blastman8888 precisely!! Thanks for the comment, how did you find our review?

    You dropped under 15% on the drone and it was returning home ! 32 % was the controller battery ! Man some people just don't get it, even with a Red Low Battery signal on !

      Raymond Siewert wrong and very bloody rude too. The battery level shown in the app is the battery level of the DRONE not the mobile phone...there is only ONE battery display shown in the app, obviously that's the drone battery. If you wish to comment on my videos, at least do so with a little f*cking courtesy and politeness.

      Apology accepted, I spent a lot of time filming, flying, editing and testing these drones to bring real reviews to my viewers, to read a rude comment really disheartens and angers me. I don't mind negative response to the drone but negative response to my review itself (especially when the response is incorrect) is just uncalled for. Think before you type, that's all I ask.

    I stopped watching when he mentioned you CANNOT fly without internet. This is crap! Can you find internet of GPS out in the woods?

    • @Droning-ON
      @Droning-ON  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right, so perhaps I didn't explain fully but it's only when you first fly and register the app, after that you can fly offline but if you change phones then you have to login again before you can fly - I'd definitely recommend that if you're heading out for the day, check in the morning before you leave the house that your login is still stored in the app.

    Total waste of money! The new Lily is not waterproof, it has a shorter fly time, and it doesn’t appear to let people launch it by tossing it in the air because the Mota Goup doesn’t see the value ....
    This is what made the Lily so attractive and unique above all the rest of the drones on the market. This makes the new Lily just an ordinary drone and there are far better drones on the market than this and cheaper.
    Lily was reborn but not worth it anymore without all those cool features .....

      Lily is a very nice drone, the only real element that lets it down is the video quality, its too soft and distorted, largely due to the glass dome in my opinion.

    Everything seemed great except the video quality...which is an absolute deal breaker. It's as if someone built a beautiful car and it drives like a dream. Unfortunately it has no room for any passengers, even the driver. Totally pointless.

    • @Droning-ON
      @Droning-ON  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Ma you're absolutely right, the video is sadly not good, primarily because the 4k sensor has been cropped down to 1080p (not scales) due to the EIS, plus the glass dome causes some really unpleasant imperfections in the image.
