    I bought a 2008 BMW 535i and love it!!!!! It is very fast and fun to drive. The stereo system is the best I have ever heard in a vehicle. It is very comfortable and I have NO complaint.

      I've had mine for 3 years, my favorite car and I agree with everything the person above said still. So sad that I have to get rid of it as I beat the absolute living shit outta it and now the transmission is fucked at 85k

  • @Spartan69117
    @Spartan69117 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Excellent car. The only thing to look for before buying one is to check for the Westgate rattle, HPFP and turbo leakage. This problem is well known in N54 turbo BMW engines, 535i, 335i etc. It will require you to purchase a brand new set of turbos. So make sure you have a warranty that covers all internally lubricated parts or have the car checked for those issues, even a slight problem can lead to more serious ones. New turbos cost around 2-3 thousand and installation can be over 4 grand. BMW has extended the warranties on the N54 with accordance to the Westgate issue, 8 years 80k miles, whichever comes first from the day the car was originally first sold.

  • @theredline
    @theredline  11 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    We think the 535i's power is sufficient. However, these N54 motors were known to have some recalls and issues. Make sure they are taken care of before making your purchase.

      Hey boss, there's one 535xi up for sale. It's got 160,000kms on it. What you suggest, should I think of buying it now in 2022?

  • @TheMilwaukeeMark
    @TheMilwaukeeMark 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I owned my '08 535i for 4 years before I discovered it had a heated steering wheel. 🤣🤣🤣
    (The button to activate it is NOT in plain site.)
    I live in Wisconsin and the winters here can be super snowy and super cold. Amazingly, I have NEVER had trouble in the snow as it's a rear wheel drive. (I use all season tires.) The heated seats (and steering wheel) are a blessing in the cold and the A/C blows VERY cold. Lots of extras. Blah blah blah.
    *It being a (twin) turbo change your oil very often. Turbos tend to need good quality CLEAN oil since they spin at ungodly speeds and can fail if not properly maintained. Don't be a cheapskate and change every 7000+ miles. Every 3k-5k miles is what I do and I'm good. I have 200,000 miles and get 30 mpg with cruise set at 70mph. Yes you must use premium fuel.

    • @landonb2884

      Just wondering, have you had any issues whatsoever with the vehicle?

  • @TheRockyCrowe
    @TheRockyCrowe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +89

    Huh, I don't know what planet some of you people are from, but this car is EXCELLENT! I've had this car for several years now and absolutely no problems whatsoever. Purchased the car certified pre-owned and one of the best decisions I've ever made, next to the certified 2003 pre-owned Mercedes Benz C320 I purchased many years ago (RIP-Car Accident); I really enjoyed that car as well. But let's not digress.... Well, if you want a great BMW, that's roomy, strong, fast and reliable this is it. Don't listen to the naysayers. I'm a proud owner and I love it! #BMW535i08

      Affinity Keep the Vanoss system in check, but other than that, when we had our 2010 it was a great car. And it was pretty rare with x drive and m sport package. It hauled ass and took corners well, and you could fit five happily in it (4 if it's a family)

    It was by far the best driving generation once you ditched the crappy RFTs though. Firm ride and excellent handling and the comfort seats were probably the most comfortable seats available in a car. I haven't driven an F10 but many F10 owners who had E60s before wish they kept their old E60s.

      playdoh1975 that goes with any BMW , since most of their engines produce all of their torque down low. That’s why it’s SO easy to speed in those cars. You don’t realize you’re going 80 in a 45..... until you look down and see the speedo... or see a cop behind you.

  • @brucec43
    @brucec43 11 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    It's hit or miss. If you pile on the miles the services will add up. Parts can be insanely expensive. Independent shops will cost less than dealers. We had a lot of electrical small things with previous gen 5 series. I'd go for a non-turbo inline 6 for maximum reliability odds, but it's not going to be very fast.

    • @macgyverade
      @macgyverade 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. The turbos was what I was thinking the straight 6 is just fine. It's fast as is 2008 528xi and it is reliable thus far knock on wood

    The awesome thing about these cars is the amount of power you can get from these n54 engines with some simple ecu chips. 600 bux at Burger Tuning and you get 100 extra horsepower and 120 extra lbs of torque at the crank. You can pick one up for 17k now used.

    • @bryanmeyerott7795
      @bryanmeyerott7795 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EXACTLY. Hands down BEST mod for any N54 or N55 powered BMW. I've got one in my E90 335.

    • @bryanmeyerott7795
      @bryanmeyerott7795 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      iClassic Why go Dinan? It costs 4 times as much, can only be installed/removed by a dealer, gives you less HP & TQ than the Burger Tuning unit, has only 1 map, doesn't have a map to support E85, doesn't adapt to performance mods, can't make changes to settings on the fly, etc etc. I can go on. I understand that when you hear "Dinan" you think BMW, but c'mon. Why pay a shit ton more for a shit ton less?

    Why the fuck cant bmw make their cars reliable? I mean damn. How can such a nice luxury vehicle have so many problems? I know people want to buy these cars, but their reliability is forcing them to go after Japanese brands and more. Why cant they get their shit together and prevent their consumers from paying hella cash just to get petty things fixed here and there?

      @britneytimberlake11 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I love BMWs because they look sexy but yes I agree. Their reliability goes downhill after the leasing period and they over charge you at dealers. That's why j drive a Lexus.

      DaOldSchoolRapLova96 get a Lexus. If you maintain it regularly, it'll last for over 300k miles without any problems. Beamers that have over 60k miles start to have major problems

    • @DaOldSchoolRapLova96
      @DaOldSchoolRapLova96 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      William T. Would a 02-05 lexus gs430 be dope? I prefer a more full size vehicle. Nothing compact like the IS. but I don't want to be in a LS haha

    • @britneytimberlake11
      @britneytimberlake11 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      DaOldSchoolRapLova96 yes, it would be a great car. I is a v8 with 300 horsepower. You should get a 2004 that's fully loaded with navigation & manual shift option on the steering wheel. I would get a black on black with chrome wheels but that's my opinion lol. Also, note that the car only runs on premium fuel and the gas mileage is okay... Since Lexus are very reliable, it wouldn't really matter if the car has high mileage (150,000+) it will still keep going without major problems. These will cost under 10 grand btw... Some other car I'd recommend like the GS430 is the Infiniti M45 & Acura TL

    The best generation of 5-series there ever was, the E60/E61. Every generation after moves further away from the near perfection of this model. You can't improve upon near perfection. Too bad I'm too scared to buy one because of the reliability.
