- Host clubs -- the male equivalent to the more common hostess clubs in Tokyo -- mostly cater to rich women who pay for the company of young men. Other customers include hostesses from nearby clubs who bring their male clients over, and even normal, attractive girls intrigued or bored enough for a rare visit. Some girls spend huge percentages of their salaries for their once-a-week or once-a-month. Though the top ranking hosts do well for themselves, most hosts live a tiring life of morning calls to their customers, afternoon dates, evening and late night drinking, and putting-out to try to keep some loyal customers.

Treat it as lonely married or single women just want platonic friends (basically see and talk to people as friends) than just living alone in the house everyday. Women are social people. Why people or foreigners think it's cheap or feel embarrassed when they are just visiting music club, singing and talking to pay friends.

I'd enjoy it personally. No guys that fancy or attractive would ever give me any attention or the time of day in a normal social situation. So this would be a welcome haven for me to enjoy such pleasures.
Look, I would feel the same. But, there's a difference in all of this, and I think it's the limit about how far will you and they go.

I think that assumption of appearance is indeed purely caused by “race” and nothing.
It's fairly obvious that at least Tokyo and other major cities have many thriving subcultures simply by the diverse set of fashion styles alone.

Wow, I didn't know anything about host clubs until i visited one last year in germany at a convention called dokomi. Things are a bit different here but still i'm exited because this year i'm gonna work as a new host at the sweet spice host club. I don't really know what awaits me in a couple months but i'll do my best.
Need to watch ouran host club and prepare myself haha.

I don't really think they speak English that well, and I THINK that foreigners aren't really allowed to be hosts(?), so it might be difficult to find a fluent speaker. But for the sake of entertaining their customers I think they will try to understand you and make themselves understood (and then it's a matter of how well they speak and understand English individually)~ Although learning some basic Japanese would probably help you out a lot! :)

I meant if there are any foreign hosts that could take care of foreign customers, but I don't think there are that many if there are any at all. But yeah! I think the Japanese hosts will try their best with whatever English they know to understand you. :)
Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding! I suppose they wouldn't take foreign hosts, but I do think it could help them receive a wider range of customers, thus being beneficial. Oh well, I'll just rewatch the Host Club anime, ahah :)

I think that on one hand it's a very good idea, they're happy cause they're getting payed (and not a small amount either) and your happy because you get to spend time just conversing with beautiful young men. Wow, I would love to go to the cafe's your going to! They seem so cheap! 1000 yen is roughly estimated to 10$ if I saw cafe like this in america, I would think it would be more like 30$ or even 50$.
Well, it's only for first-time customers and it's not every host club having that has this. Usually, it's more around 6,000-8,000 yen for 2 hours (for the basic) so around maybe around $50-70? (Based on a personal experience.) You also have other options (more expensive of course) and the drinks can get pretty expensive.

Limerence Around 6,000-8,000 yen for two hours for only the basic. You have other options, but they can get very pricey as well as the drinks you'll have to order. (Based on a personal experience.) By the way, not every host club has a first-time price.
