That is the neatest way to make a worm and gear I have ever seen. It would not stand heavy loads -- it is copper wire and soft-soldered -- but with a bit more trouble you could use steel and silver-solder. And make the "gear" out of steel as well. Bravo!

I like the way you use easily obtained materials and make it into some awkward part.
The steering gear and worm wheel look to me spot on.
You should write books on model engineering, your ideas are not only money saving, you also bring in great detail into the model which I much admire.
Have learnt a great deal from your videos.
    Thank you for sharing.

Hello mr myfordboy!! I like your videos, they are very clear and well shot!! many things and procedures that I would have to invent, you have figured out much better than me!!!👍👍👍 Thank you for your videos!!☘️

Unbelievable! From scratch material and stretching wire to a complete steering device.
It just al fits and works perfectly. No need for measurements just follow the flow of building.
No need for comments, just keep your eyes open and look how Myfordboy does it.
We all admire Clickspring and his videos, but this is a total different approce to engineering
Show but don’t tell and somehow it is more real and appealing to me. .

If you give the wire a gentle stretch before you wind it, you get a straighter bit of wire, which in turn gives less lumps and bumps to your spirals or rings. Brilliant idea to use wire for the worm gears!

I sure hope this wasn't the last part. Really looking forward to seeing this Traction Engine running under it's own power and perhaps with a coat of paint. I'd really like to see how you finish this off. One of your best builds to date.

+William Hayden Don't worry there will be in a few days, I did not get much time this week. I will be showing the running and painting after the pipework is done.

Man, those coat hanger (style) are a life saver. I can't count how many times i've had a problem and one of those was able to sacrifice its coat hangy life to make it to a tool. Even cracked inside my coin collection safe after the key got lost, with one.
That aside, what an elegant solution to that worm gear wheel. :D
