I think the weird UI placement is like that so that players can have better visibility in the corners. I have been stuck in this game at so many points where there was an attachable surface near me but I had no idea, as it was out of view. Stuff in corners would make it even harder.
It is a very, very faithful port! I compared the Steam version's internal files with the SNES ROM (AND the DS port!) and the level data is 1:1 the same to the byte. They even kept the design oversights and bugs.
Definitely reminds me of the reviews I wrote for the steam versions of all 3 games as they were released, though the key difference being this one having gameplay going on in the background while talking about it. Just found your channel a few hours ago and I gotta say, you have some really good content! Keep up the good work!
when i hacked my snes mini, this was one of the first games that i slapped on it (mainly because of that news from a few years ago, where some dude didn't turned his famicom off for 20 years) even with save states... damn! shit can be almost impossible :D
Have this for the SNES - it's a great game and well worth picking up but it is, as mentioned, hard as nails and requires a lot of practice to get good at the game which I am sadly not.

It has not been confirmed yet so don't quote me on it but rumour says Degica plans to buy the rights for this franchise so it could be re-released on Steam. UPDATE: looks like the rumours were true cause it's back on Steam with discount temporarily!
This game has the strangest UI placement of any game I've ever seen. Why is the high score right in the middle of the screen

great review as always
fun fact
this was the game why a japanese dude left his snes on for 20 years he was afraid his save file was gone lol
that story is what comes to my mind too when i hear of this. i kind of wonder if it's really true though.
Your channel is one of the best channels I've seen on youtube. Keep the good work.
+Castro Fox Thanks

This game looks like Dora the Explorer meets Castlevania 4. Whip (cough) I mean fishing rod physics.

This game is criminally underrated
You should do a Desert Strike/Jungle Strike "Which one is worth playing today" video. I think they were well regarded back in the day.
i played it on my everdrive cartridge
damn hard game ^^
It really surprised me to see find Jim Power on Steam.
Pure gameplay, true game.
Best game series! 💕
Why is the game info arranged in the middle of the screen!?
I need more Steamdrunk !!!
great find. sounds like a good purchase
Actually this is still on Steam, I'm still seeing it maybe it's not available in some regions.
Does anybody know other old Japanese gems like this and One Way Heroics?

Also someone in Japan has had his copy running in his SF for 20 years in fear of losing their score.
For Real?

+CyrusBluebird Thanks for the article. :)
+CyrusBluebird Yeah I was like - wait! Why do I know this game? And then I remembered the obsessed Japanese dude.
Umihara isn't a little girl the in-game field design makes her look like one lol.

***** No prob, dude, I just got on to check my wishlist and noticed it was suddenly buyable again.
This is like Bionic Commando
Bionic commando but the arm is made of rubber and you can slingshot yourself across the level using it.
