Thanks again guys for another great video. The WTA made a seriously bad decision in committing to hold the finals in a country where women are disrespected and far worse. I also worry about Rublev, he obviously needs help. I don't think that warnings or any other form of punishment for players who self-harm is the answer though. I think the new partnership between Goran and Elena Rybakena loks very promising and will hopefully result in her fulfilling her great potential and even more important allow some peace of mind and joy to come back into her life. She has clearly been suffering a lot over the past year or so. I wish them both well. 😊
WTA Finals without audiences don't feel like the championship of tennis. The tournament feels irrelevant or more like a 250. It's such a shame and honestly a slap in the face of the best 8 competing there. WTA should do better and after so many years I lost hope it will ever get the status of the ATP Finals. Such a shame.
With all due respect, the problem with y'all "podcast dudes" is that you guys actually don't know sh*t about the players you're judging here. Do some research about Rublev's issues. First of all, he said he's been suffering from depression for years... How do you want to convince a depressed person to be happy and love themselves? Y'all act like there is medicine for all the people who are struggling with depression and self-harm, and it's gonna be over once you take it. Y'all also act like Rublev hitting himself is smth strange and odd, and he's the only person in the whole world who's doing this. Showing some understanding doesn't mean repeating how he is loved and how much you love him. I don't believe you're concerned you just want ur click bait cuz otherwise you wouldn't look at him like a freak. And btw... Rublev has been working with psychologists. Pls talk to some fans if you don't bother yourself to reach out to him and ask him how he's dealing with his issues because this ignorance is getting out of control. Everyone keeps saying he needs help while he's literally getting the help he needs. Y'all don't even follow articles and interviews. His coach clearly spoke up and said people think they know everything about him. The fact is they don't. Y'all have no idea how hard he's working on this, but as I said... you can't just take a pill and wake up the next morning with a clear mind with no mental health issues. I hope you at least bother yourself yo read ur comment section, Roddick
Agree. They are so quick to judge all these players (especially Wertheim is so judgemental and seems to enjoy hating on certain players deep inside...), pretending to know stuff just because they re tennis media dudes/an ex player. The podcast has a weird mean vibe sometimes. Like gossip girls enjoying to just judge, judge some more, and you can also tell exactly who they back up and like and who they dont.
Well as of today he just apologized. So he gained points for that. Some don’t even have the balls to do something like that so props to him for recognizing
I have respect for Goran Ivanišević as a coach given what he’s achieved. However, as someone who lives in Croatia, I'm aware of some of the history of his problematic behaviour. So I don’t see him as this easy-going guy. Hopefully, things will still go well with Rybakina.
Regarding Rublev, self-abuse is also a form of abuse. There's racquet abuse, ball abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse. There should simply be a rule against self abuse whether it be verbal or physical.
Might the ATP have a mental health clinician and medic come onto the court in instances of self-harm. Could potentially be very helpful. An individual player committing self-harming behavior shouldn't be penalized via some sort of traditional sports penalty. Hurting oneself is a matter of health. I hope Andrey gets the help he needs and finds a different way to express his emotions on court.
Great video as always. Hot Takes? Paris Masters was fun to watch this year. Producer Mogul was right, "get in, get the hype train goin', get out". Congrats to Zverev and Humbert. Rublev situation makes me sad. I worry about him and his mental health. Do whatever you can to help as he has trauma to deal with. WTA in Riyadh. What can I say? I'd rather cut off my arm than go to such a place. Oh, right they probably would. The women deserve better but I appreciate Andy's take on the finances of the tour. The Journeyman sounds interesting. Patel is a great actor and tennis does have international cachet. Happy Election Day. Those of us outside the U.S. will be watching and hoping for a safe, sane, respected outcome. Almost a year of podcasts. What are you prepping for your first anniversary celebration? Who would we all love to see you interview? Mmmm...🤔
I get Andy was a pro, we all know he had a good career - but man, does he have to make everything about him? Talking about Andrey in "worry" but then he goes off talking about himself and his nerves and food...can he maybe just talk tennis without me me me me"when I was.."
I don't know, it's a unique perspective that a lot of his listeners enjoy. I think he's one of the few tennis podcasters that other tennis players actually listen to. His talk about food, nerves, etc. was 5 minutes into the conversation about Rublev. That's pretty reasonable.
The attendance is disappointing. But it's in the middle of the working day and school children have exams this weeks. It's a shame though for sure. Hopefully they can organise school trips & students to see & be inspired by these great athletes
I want a Martina biopic! NO ONE in tennis history approaches her story! Defection, coming out, dominance level, return to Czechoslovakia for Fed Cup as a 'non person'. After all that- most titles and match wins in history- GOAT!
There are women imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, right now and being tortured for speaking up for women's rights. The WTA should not be there. Greed or ethics and morals?
Rublev's mental state is fact or speculation? I always thought he habitually hit himself to avoid the warning from the umpire. Either way; I think the rule should be no striking the racquet upon the floor or person. Why would the person not be any more serious than the floor/equipment? It should be more serious. They're both demonstrations of anger/frustration so penalising one and not the other is lost on me. Rybakina appointing Goran is a master-stroke imho. I think that he can do really great things for her game next year. I don't feel there is a dominant No.1 female player (although Saba looks to be going from strength to strength) and any of the top 5 with a good season could take that mantle. Makes for very interesting tennis. Don't even think about stopping this podcast - I absolutely love it! Vote well - we're all watching...
Sometimes I am interested what they have to say but then I hear Roddick stuttering and Wertheim rambling in that self aggrandizing way...and I just cannot finish listening/watching...
Depression is a real condition, trying to figure out what is going on with Rublev requires a medical expert on that subject matter. Most likely, Tennis is might not be the reason, catalyst, cause, etc. of why, or what triggers Rublev behavior. Tennis should be the last important thing on Rublevs world. We saw in the interview with Daniil. Daniil was worried about Rublev as a human, the worried was not about his Tennis.
At the same time, as someone with recurrent depression, taking tennis away could be way more dangerous. I honestly don't know what the right answer is here. Because it's not his job, it's a whole lifestyle, if you take it away you're also taking away a coping mechanism for, like, staying alive. Maybe cutting back on tournaments would be a good middle ground? Because it's a short jump from self-harm to suicidal thoughts. What really bummed me out about that interview with Daniil was him asking if winning a slam made Daniil happy, as if winning a slam would solve Andrey's problems.
Your Zverev hating is so lame. You cannot even acknowledge a masters just because he won it. If this was a sinner win or whatever, you d be out there overanalyzing everything. But now Zverev won, so you best want to pretend it did not happen? Also: you supposed "concern" for Rublev comes across as pretty insincere. Jon never sounds like he is genuinely concerned about a player. Always sounds like he secretly hates most of them...
Skipped RIGHT over Paris 1000 and specifically the international outrage at Humbert's behavior at Bercy (especially during Karen Khachanov match)-which I was waiting eagerly for Andy's take on (!!)-but okkk I guess thanks for 1/2 hr on the women's tour....? 🫠
speaking of india, mahesh bhupati got the big 3 here, had a huge budget and drew some insane crowds...any chance you could get mahesh on your show to talk about what's being done to bring atp tournaments to india?
No fan of the Saudis buying up sporting events, but the WTA Finals has been a shambles for a few years in terms of organisation and attendance. It's hardly a new problem.
I live in Dubai, and as a tennis fan I was excited about going to watch the WTA finals in Saudi. The only problem for me was that I couldn’t find anyone willing to go with me. Oh well, maybe next year. I think they’re trying to improve things for women is Saudi, and they’ve got a long way to go. I just want to see the tennis🤷🏼♀️
Baloney to the Saudis--no one should be going to Saudi Arabia. It's a disgrace. Money? Six Kings? did any of those players need the money? Chris & Martina were right. Inspiration, you say? Ha.
Have you seen the Swiatek-Gauff match? It was just awful, if it was the first tennis match I saw I would never watch it again LMAO. If the WTA wants more people to come to matches, the level simply needs to be much, much better. Gauff could barely make a second serve or a decent forehand, Swiatek's forehand was atrocious as well, loads of unforced errors on both sides. Number 2 and 3 in the world, is that all you've got?
I'll never watch the WTA Finals again because of this location! I rarely WTA general tour much these days (I'll see some as filler during the majors) because of this.
Too many mental health issues due to the rigor of the tour. If you finish the year in the top 100 you should be forced to take a week off. No Perth, Brisbane, Hong Kong, Adelaide, or Auckland. Mandatory.
Record breaking viewership doesn’t depend on sold out stadiums for every match. If millions of fans are paying to watch from all over the world and the players are getting paid well to participate, the question has answered itself.
Also agree that too many 2 week long 1000 don't make sense. They kind of started to drag for me. Also one tournament after another deprives you of that feeling of anticipation for something big coming up.
Don't blame the Saudis; WTA finals are not a good show, no matter where you play. Women's tennis is rarely entertaining, like most ladies' sports, lacking speed and power. Since the Williams sisters' retirement, Sharapova ,Clijsters and Graf has lost the quality

*-Just In-* 2 minutes ago, Djokovic confirms he will not play the ATP Finals! Andy Roddick gets it correct again!
Where does he say this?
Edit: Nvm, I just found the news on the internet

Why didn't you talk about the Humbert behavior vs Khachamov? Ugo lost me as a fan.
Do you mean Umbert's celebrations every point while his opponent was injured?...
He won't lose sleep 😢
Well as of today he just apologized. So he gained points for that. Some don’t even have the balls to do something like that so props to him for recognizing

Wow you barely talked about Paris. Was there really nothing to talk about in your eyes? I am surprised by that
Zverev won it and they hate him so they will not acknowledge the tournament...
Regarding Rublev, self-abuse is also a form of abuse. There's racquet abuse, ball abuse, verbal abuse, physical abuse. There should simply be a rule against self abuse whether it be verbal or physical.
for some time I was wondering why FAA, Rune or some other under performer was not hiring Goran. and then comes Rybakina and nails it. kudos...

Prague would be better for Finals fans, but less money for WTA

Rublev is just such a mindbogling thing... damn
I get Andy was a pro, we all know he had a good career - but man, does he have to make everything about him? Talking about Andrey in "worry" but then he goes off talking about himself and his nerves and food...can he maybe just talk tennis without me me me me"when I was.."

Good point. AR's pretense of self-deprecating is no longer funny. Me, me, me, me...
Rarely agree with more rules, but it really is that simple.
The attendance is disappointing. But it's in the middle of the working day and school children have exams this weeks. It's a shame though for sure. Hopefully they can organise school trips & students to see & be inspired by these great athletes
Andrey will always be one of my favourite players. We all struggle at times. I will always stand behind him in good times and in bad. ♥️
I want a Martina biopic! NO ONE in tennis history approaches her story! Defection, coming out, dominance level, return to Czechoslovakia for Fed Cup as a 'non person'. After all that- most titles and match wins in history- GOAT!
Where is the Olipop? Maybe a new show sponsor on the way? ;-)
There are women imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, right now and being tortured for speaking up for women's rights. The WTA should not be there. Greed or ethics and morals?
Half the women population would not be permitted to go and watch tennis with their friends....one of the reasons why the place is half empty
Rublev's mental state is fact or speculation? I always thought he habitually hit himself to avoid the warning from the umpire. Barely mentioned the masters in Paris and road to Torino :(
Sometimes I am interested what they have to say but then I hear Roddick stuttering and Wertheim rambling in that self aggrandizing way...and I just cannot finish listening/watching...
Good information . Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Rubles has a mental health problem. To stand by and watch it without doing anything is despicable. He needs treatment.
He needs to see a psychologist. But it's also his and his team's call. I doubt ATP has any right here to force him to go through treatment.
Depression is a real condition, trying to figure out what is going on with Rublev requires a medical expert on that subject matter. When was the last time the wta finals had near sell out attendance?
I totally agree with you, Andy, about the French and their expectations that everyone must use the French pronunciation or face their contempt.
Your Zverev hating is so lame. You cannot even acknowledge a masters just because he won it. If this was a sinner win or whatever, you d be out there overanalyzing everything. But now Zverev won, so you best want to pretend it did not happen?

On Rublev the ATP can call "unsportsman like conduct" when he hits himself they just gotta start doing it...
He has to see a psychologist, not get more warnings
Iga is back, I'm so happy❤
Doubles is fascinating to watch for viewers yet the wta won’t take advantage of
speaking of india, mahesh bhupati got the big 3 here, had a huge budget and drew some insane crowds...any chance you could get mahesh on your show to talk about what's being done to bring atp tournaments to india?
I am watching Gauff-Swiatek match and dont see the stands being empty?
There are a lot of tennis programmes underway in Saudi Arabia. Run by Judy Murray, Garbiñe & others. It needs time.
No fan of the Saudis buying up sporting events, but the WTA Finals has been a shambles for a few years in terms of organisation and attendance. It's hardly a new problem.

I’ve seen Halep live and her hitting herself is just quite upsetting to see.
Really? Greetings from Poland
Iga Swiatek needs to loan out her sports pychologist to Rublev.
it would be great to see another up and comer- but Humbert is a screamer, so I'm not hoping he does much!
Also agree that too many 2 week long 1000 don't make sense. They kind of started to drag for me. Also one tournament after another deprives you of that feeling of anticipation for something big coming up.
Ahhhh fed up with JW’s rant about Saudi. Dude look at ur own very very divided country and its atrocities and war/genocide funding !!!

I dont care about audience when watching tennis in TV, be real
Maybe it’s not about you
Don't blame the Saudis; WTA finals are not a good show, no matter where you play. Women's tennis is rarely entertaining, like most ladies' sports, lacking speed and power. Since the Williams sisters' retirement, Sharapova ,Clijsters and Graf has lost the quality
Great channel bro but this is way too long. Why not break up the topics into separate videos.
Love longer videos. To each their own. Watch some and resume later, or use a faster playback speed.
Appreciate the free content vs criticizing.
I like the fact that it is one video, it literally has only benefits for the creators and for the consumers imo
