Thanks, Chris! I just purchased the 6D 61 key and your tutorial is the only thing helping me survive the time it is on its journey to my house. I feel like between your tutorial and reading most of the manual, I’ll be able to play this thing right out of the box!
Love your style Chris, I like the way you're very thorough in your descriptions of the instruments. Awesome playing too! I see you've obviously done the hard yards! Take care!
Not too fond of the EP/organ layer/combo..but that EP patch by itself is (to me) the most captivating EP patch that I have heard since hearing the EP patch on the Roland RD-1000 & Yamaha DX-7!..
Chris thanks for the video? A question: How do you independently set up the volume when you use dual organ, let's say a walking bass in the left side and a Hammond in the right hand? I get a very low volume in the left hand. Thanks!
If you've got an external Midi keyboard with a pitch bend knob you can bend the Samples but you'll need to play them from the external keyboard. For modulation you're out of luck but I can sort of fudge it with the Vibe effect.
The Program C 34 Jazz Duo or similar from 3:22 min on is very cool. Is it a factory program? If not which fx have you used for the ep? I want to build this ep sound on my NS3 too.
Grazie in anticipo.
Extremely well done again Chris! I almost purchased this a week ago but after watching what demos were out there and listening to different people talk about it and how the manual is very vague, I backed off as I am leery of the learning curve. So my question is this, If I have never used a nord, and lets face it, we all work for a living and have limited extra time, how likely am I going to be frustrated trying to figure this thing out? My background is Yamaha and Roland. Any advice?
Tracy Ferguson I’ve been considering one as well and had similar concerns. I sat down with one for a good half an hour at my local music shop and had the operation of it pretty well figured out in that time (and I’m not really a keyboard player, but I’m working on it!) point being, I’m not super familiar with many keyboard interfaces but it’s very intuitive. Effects are easy to manage and tweak, easy to navigate sounds once you get a basic idea of what is going on. So I say go for it! I’m going to, come pay day! Just my .02
IMHO The Nord Electro 6 is remarkable easy to use. Each engine has it's own parameters and the Effects sections is straight forward like a guitarist's pedal board.
Most likely not going to happen, but there is a chance if the stars align correctly. The 61 key model if any might make it onboard, but of course, that also depends on the size of the jet. If it is a regional aircraft, it's not going to happen. If if is a larger jet and it is not oversold, you might have some luck, but you'd have to use the Nord soft bag. Most likely not going to happen, but there is a chance if the stars align correctly, you might get lucky.
Yeah, you are. He's using a different articulation to alter the sound but if you listen to the raw sample it's taken directly from Mellotron's master tapes.
I played a Stage 3 Compact and didn't think the keyboard felt nearly as good as my 5D. Then again when I first got it, it took a couple of week so get used to.
I bought one just like this a few weeks ago, got it tricked out with new sample uploads and made tons of patches for myself. It`s bloody good although the missing mod/pitch control is a bit of a bummer for those of us who wanted to use it as a controller for other gear & no we have perhaps not much need to spend loads more to get that on the STage 3 which has a full synth too as many of us types already have a bunch of synths too ( and I have a Nord Rack 2x,DSI Prophet Rev 2 etc amongst other gear ). I would have liked to have had a proper amount control or wet/dry control in the FX section too, you can do that to a point on one FX section with an expression pedal although when u use that the patch doesn`t save like that. Being able to upgrade the sample synth memory would have been coo as then I`d get more serious about importing my own samples into it too instead of running out already as there`s a lot of good instruments in there which I kept most of and changed a few for others from the Nord Library Overall though it`s still a sterling bit of kit though, all Hailz
having a chorus or Ensemble on the 1st FX section instead of just the 2nd would also have been a bit better so I could apply it to a String Machine patch and then send it through a Phaser as well but even without that I`m still getting some nice String Machine patch sounds
Yes, not having a Mod Wheel or Pitch Bend was always the Achilles Heel of the Electros. I guess they are staying true to the concept of an instrument that mainly is used for Electo-mechanical instruments like Pianos, Electric Pianos and Organs. The Sample Playback Engine seems like it was added as an afterthought, although I make tremendous use of it. I use a second keyboard to impart pitch bend to the samples in the Electro via Midi.
I loved this demo - I presently own the Nord Electro 4HP which I love - I can play organ with it too. But, I hate those digital draw bars. My dream would be a Nord Electro 6D HP 73 - why can't we have that? Maybe, the Nord electro 7 HP with have drawbars. Come on Nord - listen to us. I am shocked that many Nord Electro 6D owners and players do not like it - almost too complicated. I loaded in better pianos and elec pianos even though I have only a few space options. I recently had a guy want to trade me his 6D 73 for my 4D HP - wow - that opened my eyes.
No, unfortunately the Electro series does not include pitch bend/mod wheel or ribbon. Need to go up to Stage models for that and that's a huge price leap. A real drawback of the Electro and I have an Electro 3 and considering an upgrade but the pitch wheel is a big miss in my opinion.
Always great to hear Chris Martirano play.
This is really a magnificent intro/demo. Thanks.
I hear a hint of Blues improvisation from ELP's Pictures at an Exhibition at 0:07 : I never get tired of watching Martirano's demos, just amazing!

How's it working so far?
Love your style Chris, I like the way you're very thorough in your descriptions of the instruments. Awesome playing too! I see you've obviously done the hard yards! Take care!
Love 89! He's a big Keith Emerson fan too.
Great demo. Thanks Chris!
Great demo Chris!
Great demo homie thank you :)

Beautiful playing
Nice Keith Emerson licks Chris!

Such a comprehensive demonstration! Thank you so much for clearly showing all the Electro 6D's abilities!
Awesome, you make me want to practice more!
I would like to hear the pipe organ sounds
Hi Chris how manny splits are there on the 6D? And can send them to my daw?
Chris how do you compensate for pitch bend and modulation as i’m Not seeing any device for that.
Carlysle Hibbert Can’t remember ever seeing a Piano, Rhodes, Wurly or B3 with a pitch bend or modulation wheel. Why would this need them?
If you've got an external Midi keyboard with a pitch bend knob you can bend the Samples but you'll need to play them from the external keyboard. For modulation you're out of luck but I can sort of fudge it with the Vibe effect.

I wouldn't let that hold you back. American Music has a guy you can get on the phone almost any time and he will walk you through anything Nord.
Is the nord electro 6, 61 keys allowed as a hand carry on international or domestic flights?
i have this in a 61 but I'm on the fence on how the keys feel cheap no real feel on the 61

str8upme2 I certainly wouldn't get the Electro for the feel but rather the sounds. You could always control it from another keyboard with good keys?
Play it Christian!!
how do you call that mellotron strings? sounds no better than a '79 roland SH-09! am i missing something?
Yeah, you are. He's using a different articulation to alter the sound but if you listen to the raw sample it's taken directly from Mellotron's master tapes.
The new Yamaha Modx 6 is an excellent option if you can't afford this! What do you think?
Not as good of organs, otherwise, yes, I think so.
No synth can beat nord or Hammond organ sections, never. These are proper organ building up brilliant organ sounds.
@@happychristian7517 Not only are the Organ Models spot-on but the Rotary Speaker simulation is about the best I've ever heard.
Do these have a weighted keyboard, or are they an organ style action?
the HP version has weighted keys, d is organ style
does 5D have the same keybed feeling like 6D? Anyone knows? Thx a lot.

Song at 23:47??
I'm sure Chris is making it up on the fly.
He's the kind of player that do that and make it sound like a composed piece.

Belly gets bigger in every other demos. You are a great musician.
lol
11:30 well, I ain't much for supposin'
sorry, that was not mellotron strings.
Your explanations sound as if you would talk through a vocoder effect.
How do you figure? Do you even know what a Vocoder sounds like?
