I never liked the hydraulic clutch on my 14 ultra. It had no "feel" for me. I much prefer the cable on my 23. But I get the issue with the adjustment. I may well invest in one of these.
Ryan I totally agree I had a 2014 for 7 years and had no issues and loved my hydraulic clutch. I bought a 2021 street glide special and hated the cable clutch and almost got rid of it. That red button will eventually fail and has no adjustment. I had several friends get stranded. I put the fat bagger replacement on and now I have peace of mind and have the right adjustment I can live with. By all means everybody should do this mod or risk being in the middle of nowhere and have a clutch failure. Easy to do and well worth it.
I've had 4 Harley's since 1998 and I currently have one with a hydraulic clutch and one without. I prefer the cable feel and I am convinced that it has a wider friction zone and is easier to pull than the hydraulic one. JMO
Bro bought the Anthem shorties months ago, installed them about three weeks ago.. was having issues with hard shifts and couldn’t get the clutch tweaked just right but then I saw this video last week, part arrived this am from your inline store. Took me about twenty minutes to install and about half hour of driving around the neighborhood and tuning.. solid work Compadre 🇺🇸
I'm running after market shorty shifter levels and I had way too much slop on the clutch side, the level would rattle when i was riding. I saw this video and ordered the part. I just installed it and I'm happy to report It easily adjusted all the slop away. I haven't road tested but Thank you, Ryan.
I have the stock adjuster on my 22. It works fine. I have fine tune adjusted I can find neutral with no problems whatsoever. I disregard what Harley says and I adjust the clutch to the way I like it..
Replaced the OEM adjuster on my 21 Tri Glide and it was little tough chipping away to remove it. Not a lot of room when you have lowers. But finally got it removed. However when it came time to put the new adjuster on it didn't slide together very smoothly. The oem threaded stud inner collar had to be filed down just a bit. Didn't take much. Could be the dimensions on the 21's are little off. The oem plastic adjuster never did adjust too well. The new Fat Baggers adjuster was well worth it and the video was very helpful especially for a senior rider like myself. Purchased the new product along with the seat screw ( Ric Rac ) and received the order very fast.
I had the yellow tube fail on my 24. I replaced it with the EZ Install Black Vinyl Upper Clutch Cable 108000-B, the clutch pull feels better and it has an adjuster at the top which lets you dial it in on the fly. The metal on metal assembly gives me peace of mind. Id highly recommend it
I love my Cable Clutch. I had a 2009 Road Glide with Cable Clutch. I refused to get a new one until 2021 when Harley-Davidson brought back the Cable, ditching the Hydraulic Clutch. The dealers even offered a great deal on a 2020 when I bought my 2021.
Love your videos but I had my 19 street glide and I had alot of issues with the hydraulic clutch, mostly when stuck in traffic with 80+ degrees days and the clutch grab different every time, the cable doesn't matter temps or condition I have it set to grab the same each time
love how they make this so simple looking i cant get mine to go in for crap!! i had to remove derby cover and loosen adjustment to get ball to finally go into slot.
I wish I would have looked at the comments because I would never bought it. I can't get mine back together either, I'll have to do what you did I guess.
i believe they recommend to totally back off the clutch adjustment in the primary before installation, then readjust the clutch after you install, then adjust the fat bagger’s adjustment. i just purchased it, plan on doing mine. thank you for the tips. i have a softail but i believe it’s basically the same.
The clutch on my 2023 low rider s failed the other night as I pulled into a garage, turns out the red plastic clip had slipped out (not broken thankfully) - clipped it back in and I was away again - but if it had broken would have been a mare. I've ordered one of these from Revzilla who post to the UK - crazy that you have to do something like this to a new expensive bike but I just don't trust that flimsy plastic clip at all. Great video btw, will be very helpful when I fit the part - cheers.
Hi Ryan love your videos. I bought a new road glide limited 2023 and that's the old thing I don't like about the bike is the cable clutch. I feel the hydralic clutch is smoother but look that's just me. O yea and my bike is just 7 months old blacked out and the front forks are a big disappointment with the black paint flaking of and harley here in Ireland doesn't want to know about it. Very bad back up service.........
The Muller Easy Pull or Advanblack copy look like 2 good alternatives for clutch lever pull reduction with cable clutches. I installed the AIM clutch slave on my 2020 Road King which made a 'UGE difference. Harley just couldn't design a hydro clutch like the 1 finger pull Brembo systems I guess. I've got a 2023 Heritage which needs this adjuster. Great video, Ryan!
Great vid Law Abiding Biker. 😊 I didn’t expect anything less. Hope I don’t miss you again in Milwaukee. This time I’m pushing to my 1st Sturges. So if not at Harley HD then maybe Sturges. I loved the friction zone vs throttle twist rate on my old sportster and Dyna. I now have a 21 Street Glide and the clutch is so far out before I get friction. I also twist the throttle further than I would like. Does this product help with the clutch issue?
My wife’s 2020 Softail Slim has had clutch issues and the dealership can’t even get it correct. You pull the clutch in and it’s barely in neutral and hardly rolls. Will this device correct the problem?
I'll probably be looking into this product, i seem to be needing to adjust my cable alot . frequently feels a little off after every few rides , nothing ever slips or too bad on the lever , just a little deferant feeling enough to notice, always wondered. . So this is the fix to that . I've never tried the hydrologic type now im curious, will be checking out that video, thanks for info/making them .
Ryan, you say you break in your clutch on a new bike aggressively. I have a new 2023 Road Glide Limited. with 107 miles on it, and they say for the first 1000 miles but not to run it over 3000 rpm. What do you suggest? The weather has sucked this year so far, I am having problems riding in the weather in Ohio. I need to get my first service before June.
Ryan I just added this to my 2024 SG. I am also interested in added the PSR adjustable levers. I really like the stock adjustable brake lever. Some t8me ago a purchased a set of FLO adjustable levers for my 21 SGS. After installing the levers the cruise control would not engage. Have you noticed anything like this with the PSR levers? Thanks, Mitch
I got the new full upper clutch cable with the new thumb turn adjuster up by the lever. It's also from Fat Baggers and I really like it. Works great and much easier to adjust on the fly. Ryan check it out and you could carry that in your store as well. thanks
100% agree, hydraulic is way better, ZERO adjustments needed!! The good news is the new M8 motorcycles can be converted to hydraulic making life so much better. All the parts are available from H-D. I await your conversion video.
This is Ryans opinion. You do not actually "need" this. It does make fine tuning clutch handle adjustment a bit easier. But I ride everyday and Ive never "needed" this. Using the factory adjuster, u can vary the distance u push down on the spring to adjust the handle slack. Push all the way together=more slack at handle. Push spring in a little=less slack at handle. Its quite simple.
It’s not about fixing. It’s about preference. When we compete in rodeo competitions, we like our clutches in a specific spot. I adjust my clutch lever as close to the grip as possible within the tolerance so it doesn’t jump when you start it in gear.
You think that rubber boot is hard try doing that with a 22 model trike!! There isn’t any room to get the sleeve off without damaging it. I have the fat bagger’s adjuster but haven’t took the time to install it. I have the PSR adjustable clutch lever and love it.
My 2016' Road Glide CVO has the hydraulic clutch, it's good. After I put on the Recluse slave cylinder it became incredible! I tried a new 2024' at the dealer and hated the clutch. Very heavy, does it ever break in and get easier over time?
No, doesn't change when the plates grab. It's literally just a lever adjuster to put it where you want it. It does nothing to the internal adjustment of the clutch.

Also I got a set of the PSR Journey levers and will have a video of them being installed soon. They are fantastic! Just an FYI though on the brake side if they were set to position 1 you won't be able to engage the brake hold function; you'll have to put them in position 2.

PSR adjustable lever are not comfortable on a long ride on back country roads where you are constantly using the clutch lever. Big disappointment in their ergonomic design. Just saying
Harley used the same threaded lock-nut cable adjuster on their clutch cable for years and years. The cable adjuster on my 2017 Dyna was exactly the same as the one on my 89 Evo Low Rider. And they replace it with some stupid fragile plastic POS? Jesus.
I HATE a cable clutch!!!! You will too when you have one snap on you hours from home leaving you stranded. Fortunately for me I have a 2020 Ultra Limited with the last offering of a hydraulic clutch. If Harley doesn't bring the hydraulic clutch back I'll never buy another one. My other bike is a 2007 Honda VTX 1800 with over 103,000 miles. The hydraulic clutch on this bike has NEVER given me any problems.
Hydraulic clutches fail too and there is no limp home trick for them. A cable clutch can (as I and many others have done on the road) be made useble in an emergency by shortening the sheath by cutting then using visegrips to pull on the cable. (Those really serious can carry a cable saver or make one depending on your lever side cable end.) Cables rarely fail without losing a few strands first so inspection (pull lever, apply eyeball) matters. I've been wrenching multiple brands since the 1970s and am comfortable wrenching anything from combat aircraft down. I greatly prefer cables and have done gobs of shop work fixing customer hydraulic clutches which are very easily killed by sitting (after which the piston seals cease to seal.)
Harley realized the hydraulic clutch was FAR more easier and less sophisticated and far less maintenance They realized the cable clutch, requires non stop maintenance. With maintenance comes labor and with labor comes Harley Davidson labor hours. Believe me, they knew what they were doing when they went to the cable clutch
By far the best video on how to install this adjuster!👍
Wow, thanks! We work hard to make the best and most detailed tutorial videos!! appreciate it.

Question my friend, do you remove the spring completely ?
Can we replace the "New" clutch cable system with the old style clutch cable??
Can you find neutral better with this?
The 24's are much easier to find neutral in general. They made a few changes.
Went from a 2019 limited to a 2024. Really miss the hydraulic clutch on the 2019.
Me too!!
Hey have use got one to fit on a 2020 low rider s ?

Cable can be fine for many just cruising etc. Hydraulic is superior for riding hard, training, and competing.

On the adjustable clutch lever

No, doesn't change when the plates grab. It's literally just a lever adjuster to put it where you want it. It does nothing to the internal adjustment of the clutch.

Money! Cable clutches are cheaper and HD is all about cutting corners to save a buck.
Unbelievable how many businesses can sustain from replacing HD junk parts.
Loved my hydraulic. Not so much the cable.
On the other hand, cable clutch systems NEVER get air in the system, nor do they ever need a cylinder rebuilt.

If Harley doesn't bring the hydraulic clutch back I'll never buy another one. My other bike is a 2007 Honda VTX 1800 with over 103,000 miles. The hydraulic clutch on this bike has NEVER given me any problems.
We'll be doing a hydraulic conversion on this bike. Coming to the channel.
@@RyanUrlacher How much does that conversion cost?
Hydraulic clutches fail too and there is no limp home trick for them. A cable clutch can (as I and many others have done on the road) be made useble in an emergency by shortening
the sheath by cutting then using visegrips to pull on the cable. (Those really serious can carry a cable saver or make one depending on your lever side cable end.)
Cables rarely fail without losing a few strands first so inspection (pull lever, apply eyeball) matters. I've been wrenching multiple brands since the 1970s and am comfortable wrenching anything from combat aircraft down. I greatly prefer cables and have done gobs of shop work fixing customer hydraulic clutches which are very easily killed by sitting (after which the piston seals cease to seal.)
Harley realized the hydraulic clutch was FAR more easier and less sophisticated and far less maintenance
They realized the cable clutch, requires non stop maintenance.
With maintenance comes labor and with labor comes Harley Davidson labor hours.
Believe me, they knew what they were doing when they went to the cable clutch
Has anyone noticed he growing a goatee
I'm fertilizing it........so it will grow. 😂
Cable is superior.
