I’ve been using the SLR Magic Micro Prime Cinema Lenses for the past 6 months on several projects and I wanted to share my long term thoughts and opinions. Long story short these are a great budget set of lenses for independent filmmakers.

Loved SLR magic lenses since I used the hyperprimes with the GH5 years ago, and now just got the 35mm micro prime for the FX3 and remembering why I loved these lenses years ago. Keep up the awesome work man.

How did you deal with flares? I see the lens doesn’t come with a lens hood and it’s a separate $200.
I am a sucker for a good flare so it isn’t something I try to avoid but I have used a mate box when that’s something I’m worried about

Unfortunately not, it is on sale right now I should probably get it lol but the micro primes are compatible with the 65 anamorphot 1.33x

I’m going to start a ciné lens kit but buying also an anamorphic kit it’s double the coast so adaptor would help a lot ! Thanks for your answer ! I ll look at the sale ! @@Outlabyrinth yeah the rear mounting thread is 82 to match the micro primes set and the 2x adapter only works on full frame glass 75mm and higher. The sale is on bh and their website

So no way to get X2 below 75mm on FF and around 50mm in apsc I guess … f***ck there are no simple option you get less stretch with 1.33 but more lenses choice or get bigger stretch but less lenses … I guess at the end of the day you get an anamorphic lense selection and standard ciné lenses and it will coast twice but no compromise…
Or wait until someone makes a 2x adaptor with more lense options

@@Outlabyrinth yeah your most cost efficient anamorphic route would be Sirui with adapter but then I’m not the biggest fan of blue flares they have a couple lenses with neutral flares but not enough. SLR needs to make a 2x adapter for a complete full frame range. It’s on sale for $499 for the 1.3x but like you said you don’t get that stretch

Would you recommend the 75mm? I have the 35 and 50 already, after seeing your test footage I‘m not sure about the 75mm, I think it looks a bit too soft and also lacks contrast compared to the other lenses?
Also the minimum focus distance is 3‘ so I guess it isn’t ideal for close up shots?
Yeah definitely not a close up set of lenses, tbh the 75mm probably gets the last amount of use but I would recommend it if you just need the reach.

New tools are always fun, they’ll pair well with your A7III
I bought a whole set when they first came out, unfortunately I rarely use them anymore since the CA is quite noticeable. There's always purple edges in my footage when I use these lenses, so definitely something to consider if you are looking to buy them. But great lenses for the price and form.
Yeah these lenses do have quite a bit of “character” which is a nice way of saying imperfections but whenever I choose to use them I am going for that look. Not married to them but they are a good tool and amazing for the price, thanks for the comment 🙌🏾

I cant decide if i want to grab the 50 or the 35 first. 50mm is my absolute favorite focal length but 35mm is more versatile. Theres some decent sales right now so if someone has a good opinion on which i should get, I'm all ears. This will be the first cine lens i add to my equipment.
I would start with versatility and go with the 35mm

I’ve yet to use the more basic cine line so I can’t speak from experience but I would imagine the biggest difference is form factor

Good question! I haven’t used meike in the past. But these are in the “character” category if you wanna embrace the imperfections

Great question my first thought would be to assume yes but I can’t say for sure since I haven’t used used any other slr magic lenses
How do you deal with focus breathing when shooting alone?
I just roll with it and mask it with handheld movement
What mount do they call me on, apart from E mount? Where can you get these in UK?
They also come in MFT & X mount
I wondering any mist diffusion was used or was that the lenses wide open. Just bought the 75mm and loving it.
Naw no diffusion everything was shot at about f2 -f2.8

@@Imhotep397 the 1.33x (65 Anamorphic adapter) has the matching 82mm rear filter thread for the micro primes but I wish the 2x were an easy match with the micro primes as well. Maybe I will be able to get my hands on them next year

They will because they are still e mount but there will be a crop

For E to E mount in not sure but the 16 would be a 24.48mm on an aps-c sensor

I got the 25, 35, 50 and 75 set. I like these lenses for sure. I'm thinking of expanding the set. Mostly shoot on FS5 (which is Super35) but I also have an A7iii (full frame). I'm trying to decide whether to get the 21mm and 18mm or get the 18mm and 15mm? What do you think? Is the 21mm different enough from the 25mm to be worth getting? I know the 15mm is probably too wide for most things on Full Frame, but on Super35 it might be more useful? Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks.
I enjoy the 18mm on Full frame and would recommend it. The other question would be do you ever plan on swapping the FS5 for something full frame. If so 18mm if not 15. In either case I would skip the 21

They are full frame lenses but also can be used on cameras like the FX30 with smaller sensors

Yeah there will still be a crop because of the sensor size
