@Mike Dumas - this is the reason that "Classic Rock" stations turned rock into Pop! You may or may not have been alive when FM rock station DJs played whatever the hell they wanted! It was truly awesome because you heard shit you would never have heard! Then in the 80s when you were stillborn, some dumbass at Clear Channel Communications decided it would be a great idea to destroy America!
Anyone who replays their live Germany Rockpalast 1980 show knows how killer of a jam this is. I discovered that concert probably 15 years ago, it wasn't until last week I truly listened and took in El Diablo. We had that concert cranked up in my friend's garage stoned out of our minds.
Dusty Hill live down here in San Leon Texas for I don't know how long I've been here since 91, Ike came in that hurricane... He moved out, Mansion still there oh, it's for sale if you got any money lol, have a great day Todd Vaughn snare drummer extraordinaire 🤙🤙🇨🇱🇨🇱🍀🍀
60! First time i've heard them was in the 1980's. Billy is one of the "Last Guitar Heroes". Accompany me since then! They brought always real surprises, for example “Cheap Sunglasses”. But "La Grange", simple as it is - my favorite LIVE track ever! Genius licks, i never get bored of this.
this song is a work of southern rock art, the sound evokes a Texas of long ago, I can see horses running across the desert as the sun burns a hole on the landscape. Saw ZZ Top this weekend in PEI CANADA. Their old sound is their best sound. Granddaddies of Texas blues in my books.
I have been listening to ZZTop since I was 3 years old. I’m 15 now and I still am listening and finding their early stuff. This song is an absolute masterpiece
I remember hearing this song in the beginning of 77, in one of the coldest Chicago winter's. It sounded so different for ZZ, my friend and I were relaxing with some good Colombian, and the ending with the continuous drum roll and wavering, almost psychedelic guitar sounded so hypnotic, I guess you'd have to be there...TJ Struska
I hated when that happened!!! I'd try and rescue them and have tape strung out all over the place in a (mostly) vain attempt to save my tunes! It got comical sometimes!
Anything ZZ Top in 1976 was/ is amazing. Already a huge fan after Tres Hombres, Fandango as a teenager they were Top of the line for me a southern Arkansas boy with a love for this kind of rock. We had Tejas when it hit the shelves and I've never stopped jamming it to this day. El Diablo is one of those I'd compare to Master of Sparks except it was a real life experience. Don't know about El Diablo but what a masterpiece!
Someone said masterpiece and yes it is.. The whole album is great.. One of the best psychedelic songs ever wrote.. Some gave this thumbs down.. Well if you have a shot glass for music... Oviously Janet Jackson worshipping dorks.

I'm 66 yrs old & I been looking for this song forever ( El Diablo ) by ZZ Top. I never knew the name of this song, but I knew it was by ZZ Top & I used to hear it way back in high School but never knew the name of this song. And I used to teased a Mexican girl with this song I used to work with. But I just found out the name of this song tonight.
@genewilliams2942 I am so glad, living in the VERY PRIME Time of this great musical era! Nothing better will come! Thank you, Billy & friends, for all the great music! Even I'm not from Texas.
oooh...all that nasty reverb on the snare...what were they thinking??....thankfully I have the entire zztop original catalogue before they messed with it...
Where did you find this mix? If you listen to the version on Spotify and Apple Music it sounds really different, almost muted. But this sounds brighter and almost live. It’s especially noticeable with the drum track.
Anyone know why the drumming sounds echoed in this version? I enjoy it more than the lossless version I have. For reference to what I mean, see the other upload of this song on YT (non-live, maybe 4th or 5th hit) *edit: "because it’s a 1987 remix, [not] the original 1976 mixing"
*ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED SONGS IN HISTORY. A TRUE HIDDEN GEM THAT ONLY REAL ZZ FANS KNOW ABOUT*
Or they have never heard of ZZ Top but they heard the song on that episode of Bones.
@Mike It's a beautiful song not recognized...that's what it means....just get it.

Tejas is a terrific mixture of classic rock, blues and funkiness. Underrated but one of ZZ Top's best.

This whole album is some of his absolute best. Just stellar.

this is 1987 mix pack, on it, all the drums were replaced with a drum machine
So hypnotic, such a wonderful groove.
