    This is a useful video because it gives you context for your actions. Thank you for going through your thought process for the viewer to consider. I played a learning game last night with my wife and there is very little in the game to point you in the right direction strategically.

    Rahdo, I can’t begin to thank you for this video. You have helped me to understand the whys and wherefores of this game. Now I finally get it and am ready to play! I’ve viewed quite a few videos on Brass Birmingham, and yours has been the only one that answered all my questions. You ROCK!!

    44:30 (ish) - the Develop action is not the only way of getting all the potteries on the board. You can also overbuild. In fact, one of the uses of the crappy level 2 and 4 potteries is to reserve the building site and stop anyone else from building there, because (apart from under a very specific set of circumstances) you can't overbuild someone else's industry, but you can overbuild your own.

  • @kurth1775
    @kurth1775 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    23:09 - You don't put your score marker up as you flip tiles. Scoring is done at the end of each era, for flipped tiles and connections. This has an impact because a] overbuilt industries do not get to score b] level 2 and higher buildings that were flipped in the first era get to score twice.

      Thats the money market. The victory points are scored at the end of each era

    • @Sam-vk8xd

      Vincent Holthof kurt only put in that time stamp to catch the beginning of when rahdo scores the flipped tile. He didn’t mean the money market. You’re both stating the same thing.
      I guess a more correct time stamp would’ve been 23:12

    THANK YOU! I really appreciate these videos. They really help drive it home, especially how you talk out the strategy. I don't think I could have enjoyed my first game without this video in my mind. I had misunderstood something and posted a comment but deleted it so it wouldn't confuse anyone. I played my third rundown of the game tonight and think I finally played the whole thing correctly!

      Can you tell me exact timestamp where you see one of those cards? At the start of the game all of the cards in his hand have the 2P icon so they should be in play despite having the 3 and 4P icon also, those are cards that are played in all of those player counts

    • @dhanigar
      @dhanigar 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are right! I am mistaken. I was thinking the cards only have two players on them but it is the other way around! I just played it again tonight and noticed my mistake! I'll edit the post.

    Jen could not build a brewery at Coalbrookedale as the first player to build there. The first player to build there could only build on the Coal or Iron tiles. The second player to build there could build a Brewery.

    At 19:05 - Was Radho's first action on his second turn (Network) allowed ? Is that Network Action only allowed if or someone else has an industry tile in Coalbrookdale ? I seem to remember this was the rule in Lancashire. Here are the Rules from the Rules book - NETWORK ACTION - Place a Link tile on an undeveloped
    line on the board. The placed Link tile must be adjacent to a location that is a part of your network. NETWORK DEFINITION: A location on the board is considered to be
    a part of your network if at least one of the following is true: (a)The location contains one or more of your Industry tiles (b) The location is adjacent to one or more
    of your Link tiles

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      starting out with a network action even with no locations is new to birmingham... wasn't allowed in lancashire :)

    The step 9 of the play area setup says: "Take one additional card from the Draw deck and place it face down in your play area. This is your discard pile..." Why did we do that? What about that card later on? What is it for? Help, please!

    • @Endeva09
      @Endeva09 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's because your first ever action is on its own, not 2 actions, so a card gets discarded to keep an even number of cards in the draw deck

  • @phpFreNZy
    @phpFreNZy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Rahdo passing his one action at 38mins was a super ineffective move
    what he should have done in his turn was take a loan THEN build the coal mine so his income wouldn't hurt much

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      in all honest, i just wanted to demonstrate passing... i had meant to do every action at least once during the runthrough (though i think i failed to do a development)

      @phpFreNZy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@rahdo No worries I was just giving a tiny strategy advice to people watching. I know it is hard to come up with an optimal move while you are doing your runthrough. Keep up the good work

    • @Sam-vk8xd
      @Sam-vk8xd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, although I know rahdo just meant to show the different actions, but taking loans (especially when you can take them and not go into debt for every round) is very powerful. Never be afraid to take loans! It’s a power move in this game!

  • @DadGotGamez
    @DadGotGamez 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For a loan you don't you drop three levels not three spaces? Right at the beginning on Jen’s first turn.

    What does those two symbol mean at the top of Shrewberry. (not the arrows) - those link icons that you find on the backside of all tiles? But Shrewberry has two of them next to one another? Can't find it in the rule book.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi there, it's been a year or so since i played, so i don't remember specifics, but if you ask here: www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/224517/brass-birmingham/forums/66 i'm sure you'll get a quick response :)

    • @phaionix8752
      @phaionix8752 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know if you found it, but for any future reference, those icons are worth victory points for any connected links (canal or rail), one point each. So the connection out of Shrewsberry would be worth two points at the end of canal, unless buildings were flipped in Coal...dale that would add more points.

    14:43 - I believe this is a mistake. The rules say that an industry card "may be used to build the
    Industry tile (...) in a location that is a part of your network." There is no special case for when you don't have a network yet.

    • @PauloRenato23
      @PauloRenato23 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what he was trying to explain is that when you use an Industry card you have to build in your network, like you said in your comment, but since at this moment Jen hasn't built anything yet (her first action was to take a Loan) she can Build that Industry with that Industry card anywhere on the Board because she has no Network limiting where she may build

    • @bleble6666

      @@PauloRenato23 where is it said in the rulebook?

    • @PauloRenato23
      @PauloRenato23 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bleble6666 When you build with an Industry card you have the limitation that you have to build on your Network... obviously if you have no Network you aren't bound by that limitation and can build anywhere that has that industry, simple... don't know what you aren't getting!!!
      If the Industry you were building required Coal (which was not the case here) you would also be limited by that, you would have to build in a space where the coal could be transported too but since that's not the case, the Industry she's building requires Iron (and Iron "flies") she can build in any location that has that industry space...
      If you have anymore doubts about this go to the BGG forums and ask your questions there, maybe there will be someone that can explain you this better than what I'm doing... I think it's pretty straight forward
