    Hard truth about ADV bikes. Really got to know what you're buying before you get too invested. It's incredibly easy to get ahead of yourself when building your adventure bike. You really need to know what you're planning to do with it before buying. These bikes are not cheap so do your research. Remember that keeping weight down is one of the most important parts of choosing the right ADV bike. You do not want to be on a 700lb tank and fall over on a hill in Colorado. You will regret your decision lol Yes people proved that a GS1250 can get through a BDR, but that doesn't mean it's going to give you the best experience. One thing I can't stand is riding while fatigued, and it gets harder as you get older. A GS in my opinion is a road sofa that can handle level B and gravel roads. Best to travel long distance or go to Alaska. If you want more Offroad capabilities and do that stuff look at a Tiger 900 Rally or something comparable.

    INTENT & CO$T are the two mitigating factors in a purchase but most do not know what they want to do on the bike. I'm in same
    boat as I research but I've spent 6 months patiently researching a list of 7 dual sport bikes including all the mod's along w/ the cost
    to do them. I do appreciate this video as I'm constantly learning bits -n- pieces that help in my pursuit of the best bike for me.....

    For many of us there aren't a lot of good options for what we want. Most of us have to do old bike to get close to what we want, but we want some modernized version. KTM 690 series is about only modern bikes that fall in the perfect range (on paper). Personally I didn't like my 690 enduro as an adv bike.
    The 390 adventure was close, but fell short in a few key areas. If the enduro version is released many of us might find the perfect bike. Only issue is its a KTM and well...KTM is a known quanity.

    Go small to start!
    if you buy it in the off-season used, you can probably resell when you’re ready for an upgrade without taking much of a financial hit at all.
    A lot of dealers are going to be stuck with bikes here as the season gets on we’re gonna see some huge discounts… or take advantage of someone selling their bike that can’t afford to keep it. There’s gonna be a lot of that coming up. Consumer discretionary spending on stuff like this is way down. This is the first thing people are giving up when they need money or just have a child

    I went for the Suzuki v-strom 800de, to be different to the t7 and 890r riders. Coming from an off-road trailing riding background, I wanted something more road focussed than the couple of dual sports I dabbled with and found the power to weight ratio to be underwhelming. I now wish I’d just gotten the ktm, as the Suzuki is so heavy and a touch too much road focussed. 105hp compared to 84hp, much lighter, and more off-road focussed in hindsight probably would have suited me better. But still, I’m also interested in a ktm 690 and making it more road focussed while keeping it capable for single track 😅 you only live once! 😎

      It’s tough to find what we want these days with so many options. You almost have to buy a bike and be ok with losing money if it’s not what you expected. But if all we were concerned about was money then we wouldn’t be riding lol

      I really want to get one, but already had a bad experience with a brand new ktm I had. Reliability on the 790/890 platform really concerns me as well 😢

    It's somewhat amusing that so many of these reviews on ADV bikes don't have video of the bike actually being ridden with three days/weeks of camping gear/food/spare clothing on the bike.
    Of course, very few ADV bikes are regularly ridden by their owners with days/weeks of camping gear.
    At the same time, few consider something much smaller/lighter/less expensive like a Yamaha WR250R or its equivalents with something like a Giant Loop Great Basin to carry the kit.
    Not enough roost behind the bike, perhaps. But most of the time, everything over 26 HP at the back wheel is mostly for wheel spin.

      Have you watched Chris Birch or Adam Riemann or Rob Hamilton? Also why does the bike have to be ridden for 3 days with camping gear to discuss the positives and negatives of the bike? Also do you get a 5 gallon fuel tank on the Wr? Or do most bikes like that require its users to buy an oversized fuel tank only decreasing power to weight ratio and adding top heavy weight. Depending on the rider bikes like the 890 the tiger 900 and the t7 can be rode comparably to dual sports like that if not more aggressive. Your absolutely right though that wheel spin plays a big factor but one thing I care a lot about from these bikes that I believe makes them to be the better choice for long range adventure rides is their suspension capabilities. A reckless 80 on a wr would add a lot of weight making the bike feel somewhat abnormal. It all comes down to preference really and each bike falls into its own respective category.

      ​@FREE-RIDER I think your last sentence sums it up completely. Everyone has different wants and needs out of a motorcycle. For many people, this whole experience of adventure bike ownership is a never ending learning curve. This is why I smile when I read comments from people with hard opinions on this topic. They're ideal setup is another person's nightmare. Adam Rieman is no exception to this. He's a highly skilled rider that has figured out the perfect setup for him. It's a pleasure watching him masterfully ride "The Warhorse". He should definitely pull back on his arrogance though. There are many people who travel the world on motorcycles, from CRF 300s to Tiger 1200s, with hard or soft luggage. They're all getting the job done. There is far too much gatekeeping in this community.

      @@Kevimoto Remember TH-cam for the most part allows people to speak freely on topics, and if someone had to worry about coming across as arrogant on topics they feel strongly about then they wouldn’t upload the video. The video creator posts willingly knowing peoples “agree levels” will vary from 0%-100% and doesn’t always solidify their rightness or wrongness on the subject they speak about. The commentators also have a similar choice, on what they say and how they say it. If people want change then start being the change, and improve on our listening and responding skills

      @@FREE-RIDER to each, their own. I generally don't waste time voicing my opinion, because everyone has one and mine is no more valuable than anyone else's. It's easier to simply unsubscribe. TH-camrs are a dime a dozen. Lots of content out there.
