      Ecliptic Lion vegan and vegetarianism have short term benefits because when doing so people usually change more about their diet than not eating meat. They stop eating processed shit (the real cause of diet issues) and thus feel better all while incorrectly blaming the meat and not the other unhealthy crap they were eating before. You don’t need to listen to me but it’s well documented that vegan and vegetarian diets that are not supplemented and managed intensely cause long term health problems. Just throwing it out their do with it what you will. For the record I do believe most people have crappy diets both omnivores and vegetarians, etc... I appreciate that vegans want to better the world and try to live healthier but at the end of the day science doesn’t back their diet up and they claim crazy conspiracy theories are to blame.

    Those claims remind me of my grandmother. She claimed that vegetarians were weak and couldn't work properly. On a dare, I said I'd go vegetarian for the next 3 months. That was lucky for me because our class went to London during the outbreak of mad cow disease. ... My grandmother spend the last 10+ years in front of the TV, watching mindless crap, because of hemiplegia. So if a vegan diet reduces the risk of stroke by almost 60%, I'll go for it!

    • @mchobbit2951

      That generation in the west was brainwashed so hard. I remember my grandmother even saying that when I was a kid and expressed doubt about eating baby sheep. They also tend to watch a ton of TV now. She often calls me just to tell me this oh so important thing she heard on TV. Because she doesn't have Internet or use reference books, she never researches/checks up on any of those claims. Kind of shocking how easy someone born into Nazism is to convince. Every time some little thing is wrong with me (feeling cold in winter, period pain, muscle pain from exercise) she thinks it's because I am missing these "vital nutrients in meat".

  • @meanpoutine7095
    @meanpoutine7095 6 ปีที่แล้ว +677

    Why do meat eaters always act like because they eat meat and dairy, they are automatically not deficient in any vitamins or nutrients?
    So many people who eat meat/dairy lack vitamins that they aren’t even aware of. They bash vegans for the possibility that they *might* be deficient, meanwhile, vegans *usually* are much more aware of their nutrition and many supplement to ensure they’re getting proper vitamins.
    The average vegan hater usually doesn’t even know what vitamins they need but think their fine because they get protein 😄

    • @ErykaSoleil
      @ErykaSoleil 6 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Sadly, the public school system has spent years and years indoctrinating children to believe that meat and dairy are *NECESSARY* to even survive. Not a month after I stopped buying any and all meat, my 8-yr old daughter came home from school, where some woman had come to her class and taught them all just such a thing. Fortunately, I'd already begun discussing nutrition and science well before that point, but it was still frustrating for both my child and myself. Even worse, the little workbooks the woman had passed out specifically metioned (albeit briefly) that you could substitute things like legumes for meat, and non-dairy options if you were lactose intolerant, and this woman apparently dismissed it entirely.

    Unfortunately it wasn't covered where meat gets its B12 from. It is actually supplemented to animals. You just need to Google cobalamin and animal agriculture.

    • @marisstreck8027
      @marisstreck8027 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is only true because of intensive herding. Herbivores and fishes eat b12 and proto-b12 directly from the source (algae and bacteria) and will naturally synthetize b12 in their bodies (mainly in livers, as far as herbivores are concerned). That's also where the b12 is usually extracted from to make integrators, since it's the cheapest availlable source. And no, humans can not digest or absorb b12 if it hasn't been refined from animal digestive tracts first, so you can't just eat algae and hope.

    • @marisstreck8027
      @marisstreck8027 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @marisstreck8027
      @marisstreck8027 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Si0Ro Exactly, human have no way to absorb b12 (or omega-3 acids) from vegetables. Extraction... I mean, I've been a bit vague but when I said that you get it from their bodies I didn't mean that you need to kill them for it, milk and chicken eggs naturally contain b12 and we have millions of liters of cow milk that goes down the drain daily.
      Anyway, might be worth noticing that you can synthetize b12 in a lab. You basically can't eat vegan and organic.

    I’m so glad you responded to this. I was waiting for it. I came across the B12 study in an article called something like “5 nutrients you can’t get from plants” or something like that. I was shocked at the claim that 92% of Vegans were deficient. I checked out the abstract for the study and laughed out loud when I read it specifically excluded Vegans who supplement and even later in the abstract IIRC it said the difference was still statistically insignificant.

Vegan for 9 years and I have normal BP, haven't seen a single incidence of ED literally since going vegan (even if I'm not 'in the moood' I can get it up and handle my business). Also, my wife and I had a baby while actively taking efforts to avoid coneption.
    *Argument #6:* Serum cholesterols last checked measured 67, virtually assuring me no heart attack.
    *Argument #5:* I'm stronger and heavier (lean muscle) at 34 than I was at 25. Went from 5'9" 166lbs to 178lbs, with all lifts (squat, deadlift, benchpress) going up significantly.
    *Argument #4:* Been sick maybe 3 or 4 times in almost a decade since going vegan.

    That lettuce to bacon study is so frustrating because people rarely tell the full story. That study looked at greenhouse gas emissions to calories. I believe it was looking at iceberg lettuce (I don't quite remember) and assumed that lettuce was being trucked across the country. Yeah, lettuce has low calories, so the calorie to greenhouse gas ratio of shipped lettuce is going to be pretty high. But you can dig up some dirt in your backyard and sprinkle in some lettuce seeds and your carbon footprint will be much less than eating bacon. Sigh. They didn't read the study. These kids have no concept of nuance.

    • @christinash2235
      @christinash2235 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The entire premise of that study is dishonest. Not only does it compare lettuce to bacon, but it measures the carbon footprint of people eating RAW MEAT which no one does who actually would like to live another day. Even die hard bacon trolls can't deny their herbivorous instincts to recoil from uncooked pigs flesh. So the study itself pissed me the fuck off, but at least the scientists had the professional credibility to come forward and correct misinformation about the study, which was wildly spun by mainstream media. Psychological and sociological research has shows that disinformation is more difficult to correct than complete ignorance. I know that because I study environmental science and one of the primary reasons climatologists give for resistance to scientific information on climate change is because its so hard to correct pseudo-science once its out there, rather than teach a person who is completely naive to the subject. Capitalists know this. Unethical journalists know this. Corrupt politicians know this. Science has confirmed it.

It boils down to one simple truth: if you pay attention to your intake of nutrients, vitamins, and calories, you're gonna be healthier than one that takes this to an excess and doesn't follow a diet! Wherever you get your nutrients from doesn't matter to your body, it's the moral standard you have set for yourself mentally that determines how you choose to consume them.

    I went vegan about two or three months ago, and while I can't say much (yet) about the overall health - I never was a big meat eater and didn't have many of those issues that come with eating meat - but I regularly suffer with migraine, once a month. I would usually be in pain for about two to three days, often very high on medication which at least reduced the pain a bit. Had another attack a few days ago and no painkillers at home. Expected to feel like hell for the next couple of days, but what can I say. After one and a half days it was all gone and the pain wasnt anything as bad as it usually would be. On the second day I could already go about my day as if nothing was wrong. So from my point of view, that one's definitely confirmed.
    As for children not being obese as a point against veganism? You've got to be kidding me! Really would love to see a "1000 ways meat eaters destroy the world". Keep up the good work 👍

    When people argue that vegan get sick more often... When I ate meat, I was sick ALL THE TIME. I dealt with reoccurring tonsillitis. I was overweight and had low energy. I also I have IBS, and what I was eating gave me discomfort daily basis. I was vegetarian for 2 years before going vegan, and I've rarely gotten sick since switching to a plant-based diet. I don't crave processed junk anymore. I'm no longer overweight, and it doesn't take many trips to the gym for me to build muscle tone. I still have IBS, but I'm not in the state of constant flare ups, now it's more like once a month for a few days. People have lost touch with how they are supposed to eat. Honestly, I'm terrible at doing my own research, but Mic, your videos have taught me so much.

    Such a great video! Also along with Point number 7 about the illegal Avocado cartel in Mexico the video is so eager to mention that, but not mention how horrible slaughterhouses are for the workers and people in surrounding areas! That workers have a high rate of PTSD, aren't cared for or documented well with injuries many times, and it's considered a highly hazardous job without much protection. Also people that live in surrounding areas to slaughterhouses have many health risks and even have higher rates of birth defects! But OH NO! The Avocado Cartel that we can totally avoid by buying ethically sourced avocados! Glad you mentioned this later on!

      Its part of the housing ponzi scheme. Use up land with meat and dairy so you can push prices up for housing. People are being ripped off like you can build homes for next to nothing out of natural materials with good heat/ cool storage in solar thermal such that there is a video about an earrtship on a windswept mountain in Canada where they get tomatoes flowering in January. With the high density set up they can charge people for water , heating as already mentioned, low quality foods, diseases caused by the poor living environment/ nutrition. booze/ drugs to cope with the heatbreak/ hoplessness etc.

      That's simple ...if you make a product that people already like/buy cost less more people will buy it and will buy it more often as a result you will make way more money that way. For example i can go buy a gallon of milk at the corner store for like $2.75 and a quart of coconut milk or a quart of almond milk (which i prefer) will cost me anywhere from 5-6 bucks at the grocery store. I can go buy a pack of 12 frozen steaks for like $14.50 (granted it's not gonna be top grade prime cut beef lol ) but a bag of 10 grapefruits will run me around 11-12 dollars but it comes down to on the consumers end; practicality , convenience , affordability, and sustainability. that pack of steaks will last 2-3 months in my freezer that bag of grape fruit will last maybe 2-3 days mainly because i like grape fruit a lot and i will eat 3-4 of them within a hour or 2 lol.

    Just gotta say that the more plant-based my diet has become, the more often my flag salutes me in the morning, and the more intense my orgasms have been. I'm 43. I never had ED, but I did experience a growing lack of interest and pleasure with sex as I got older. I've seen a reversal of that with a plant-based diet.

    I mean, I didn't reduce my medication and I didn't miraculously cure myself, but my family has a history with anxiety and depression, and me getting a.d.d. and autism spectrum seem to just be flukes, or unknown genetic and environmental factors influencing them, Me suddenly getting epilepsy was not because I went vegan either, stress in my life likely didn't help, but doctors don't really understand why most people with epilepsy have it, they just know, well jimmy here gets seizures, and we think it's triggered by this and this is the kind of seizure he experiences. As for my epilepsy, I have those super fun loose conciousness (it's too late for me to spell that) and bodily spasm kind, biting down on parts of my mouth, being disorientated for like 30min, not being able to walk the next day because of muscle pain, it's all super fun. Whatever. Anyway, where I was going with this is, some of us have health issues, get a random portion of any population and that is bound to be true so long as you don't have like the weirdest fluke in sampling ever. Thing is though, it's not because of veganism, and maybe it won't just cure all your issues, but I must say, I have personally seen improvement in my health by going vegan and taking better care of myself in general, holy shit though I didn't know food could feel that good for my body, damn. And one last thing, I have dealt with depression for as long as I can remember, but you know what doesn't help it ad never has? This bacon joke kind of culture, wouldn't you be depressed if every day everywhere you looked you saw an industry of torture and death being normalized and an accepted part of culture. Idk but it sure fucks me up, and that's not my fault, I'm not the one committing such acts.

      Oh! and I forgot, All those tests on me figuring out why I got seizures, spoilers, it's epilepsy, they also checked to see if my nutritional needs were being met, they were, with one exception, my pasty minnesotan ass wasn't getting enough vitamin D. But that can be remedied without animal suffering.

      Thank you for your lengthy comment... a friend`s daughter has epilepsy and they are trying to use this ketogenic diet which sounds horrible to me (a meat based one)... • @unlockyoursoulmemory4199
      @unlockyoursoulmemory4199 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ahem... and by the way, the thing about depression is quite funny (well in a sarcastical way) because I was suffering with depression for about two decades and yes, I am vegan, but if you would take a look at my family, they are all lunatics... depressive ones, psychopathic ones, borderline ones, I don`t know how I could collect such a museum of freaks in my family alone, but hey, I am the only vegan though

      I'm still pretty new to the whole knowing I have epilepsy thing, it only became known to me last year, and I only get seizures when I stress out my body too much, like going to long without sleep, forgetting to eat because I get really absorbed in an activity or project, or getting heat stroke. At the momentI don't have any substantial advice for that, and since each case often differs from another I am not sure what would work, but for me at least, aside from my medication I have been mostly carb based and that has gone well for me. Not sure if that would help, I wish i had more but I don't, sorry. The one thing I have to look out for is places with no vegan options since not eating enough can give me a seizure if I go for too long. I'm probably not the healthiest vegan out there but I try my best I suppose.

    + Mic. the Vegan - regarding phyto-oestrogens, I notice no mention was made of the effects in the wild due to the increase in presence of these. Some species of amphibian are particularly adversely affected.
    With regards to milk, this is more a problem in the USA, since they are one of the few places in the developed world allowing the use of growth hormones, at all, and antibiotics to excess.

    Thank you for the educational links to back your claims. I am not personally interested in attempting a vegan or vegetarian diet, however I appreciate the opportunity to learn and view the world objectively. That said it may stand to reason that no one is purely non-biased yourself included I did find flaws in both sides of the argument and I think it has more to do with confirmation bias and a lack of specialized education towards the topic on both sides. Keep up the good work and much respect for standing up for your beliefs even as some are contrary to my own.
