A wonderful example of the flying skills of these helecopter pilots Chris, although it looked perilously close to the flats in such gusty winds....Superb capture by you both.....Bob
It was very near to the flats, good job nobody opened a window.I'm sure they knew what they were doing but if they can land that helicopter on a small piece of grass they can land it anywhere.Best regards Chris.
Man, oh MAN... I've seen some "confined area operations" in Vietnam - but this is right up there among the best....! And a "tactical" civilian operation at that...! Much KUDOS to the pilot in this Vid...! Thanks for posting....! Gordon in Maryland
Many thanks Gordon,i'm glad you liked my video. We were very worried he was to near the houses and should have landed on the road, but this guy knew what he was doing, amazing bit of flying.........Regards Chris
These guys are amazing you would think they would have moved the van and landed on the road, the blades must have only been four feet away from the flats. I thought he had better shut his door too Steve.Best regards Chris.
Our emergency services are the best and do some amazing things. I have a friend who was so ill in bed upstairs the paramedics called the fire brigade who removed the bedroom window to get him out to the ambulance so he remained horizontal as not to aggravate his condition. Do what I do, donate a tenner a month to the air ambulance if you can spare it, they are not Government funded and they may save your life one day.
Oooo a housing estate! the helicopter pilot should lock and alarm that thing, you never know! Just imagine the pilot gets back and all the wheels have gone and the thing is on blocks, looool!
I just love people signaling to the pilot and 'telling' him/her what to do!!!!! Trust me, the pilot is 100% certain of what to do!!!! Of much more use would be watching how close the chopper was to the building!
the helicopter from the same company landed in my local park about 3 weeks ago! it took of a little bit differently tho as it was open space ofc! but yeah. now my question is the people who guide the helicopter to land were there b4 it landed . where did they come from???
These pilots are extreamly good, what a landing in a quite tight spot next to that building, if correct, thhis must not have been for a real serious injury, only because they completly shut down the engine, if it was a serious injury they would have done which is a Hot Load and kept everything going on the Helicopter, engine running, and blades turning.......
Hi Andrew,Your right these pilots are very skillful and it was very close to the block of flats,I believe it was a stabbing the wife fell out with her husband and he was out of hospital in a day or so.Thanks for watching.Chris.
Now for a stabbing, this could have used the HOT LOAD technique, but wqill have to admit, that helicopter from a complete Shutdown, it actually started up and took off really quickly........'
+Andrew Silva See my post above for my background. Trust me, you really are taking a HUGE CHANCE of getting your head cut off and doing a hot load in a AW-109, BO-105, S-76, etc.. Unless you are on a slope, a AW139 can hot load anytime, but if it were me, I wouldn't even come near this aircraft if the rotors are turning. But, as i said before, UK pilots have some mad skills. No doubt.
Fly a helocopter in and noby seems in a rush, Ambulance wouldn't have been faster? They at least seem to have a sense of urgency. Maybe this was a practice drill?
@@wooltman yeah it be so funny it did tho, LOL on one of the episodes of Come Out Side on Cbeebies, Aunty Mables Plane was parked in a car park, LOL might of been Animated in the studio, but it looked real to me.
wooltman I think I have become the number one fan of these pilots!!! I find myself watching videos of their skills over and over again,.....realizing these guys are second to none. Great video, and keep them coming!!!
No co-pilot on this. It’s a single pilot operation - with the paramedic in the front acting as navigator and doctor in the back with patient. Some other air ambs in the UK use single pilots, but most are gradually moving over to double pilot
I agree,no use rushing! The patient was out of hospital the next day we were told.Sometimes I think they use the Air Ambulance for some very silly call outs, they could have gone in by road.
wooltman better not to take the risk by not calling it out, though. They do get dispatched to silly things, but that's only apparent when the highly skilled doctor is at the scene and can assess the patient. A 999 caller's version of events may not always match the injuries etc
Does anyone know who that man was directing the helicopter to land My guess is he’s a off duty paramedic or doctor for the air ambulance and was passing by the incident and decided to help the ambulance crew before the air ambulance and he keeps his flight jacket in his car in case of incidents like this so he can be easily identified as a air ambulance crew member
wooltman after thinking about it I believe he is a paramedic since they often are the navigators since he knew how to guide the pilot down and the doctor normally is just the doctor and they don’t normally have anything to do with operating the aircraft
For the record, this pilot, and in general all air ambulance pilots in the UK, have dazzling skills in where they can just slip in to land the aircraft. I am a retired US Navy Fighter Pilot (Capt.; CVW-7; NAS Oceana) and now a Nurse Practitioner Trauma/Critical Care working as a part-time Air Ambulance Flight Nurse and as a part-time Associate Professor in an Ivy League nursing school (RN, MSN, Ed.D, CRNP, CEN, CFRN, CNA). Can anyone out there tell me why the co-pilot door (it's on the LEFT in a helo) stayed open from take-off (3:56) until transition to forward flight (4:10) ?? Did they 1) Plan to go quickly out-of-belt and jump for it if the helicopter goes from IGE to OGE and uncontrolably looses lift and is going to crash; 2) Have a new Agusta/Westland option that was never mentioned for the AW-109 Power to add a modified Martin-Baker ejection seat with rocket motors that blow left and clear the main rotor; 3) Need to cool off the interior quickly or use the 100mph downwash to blow dry their hair; 4) Try to kill the patient by using the downwash to blow all dust, leaves and debris into the patient's airway; 5) Have a brain injury to the crew member in that seat or early Dementia and they JUST FORGOT to close the door ??
+Unknowen Privatarium You all are very skilled and do a great job,I cannot help you with why he left the door open...Thanks for watching...Regards Chris.
unknown privatarium. co pilot door. they are watching all around for any obstructions, hazards. particularly to the rear of the helicopter. it allows the pilot to concentrate on the building/trees forward and not look or worry about whats behind him. copilot will be talking to him the whole time. keeping the door open and leaning out gives the best view once enough height is gained to safely transition the door closes. take note of the control corrections when landing, wind turbulance etc because if the buildings and down draft. to land they qre looking for street lights, power cables and all sorts of things. team effort from all on board to get into such a confined landing site.
All I can suggest is that it's for observation. You can clearly see him leaning out on the way down, and also on the way up. In addition, thanks for the copy of your CV. It's... enlightening.
Just a safety precaution so that the co-pilot can keep a look out while lifting off. You'll notice that just before he gets in he casts a MK II Eyeball on the people behind the helo and he's thinking "why would they bring out a Pram".. ?? lol Always keep a close observation on the proximity of obstacles to the Tail Rotor..!!! That's a confined landing and take-off. Kudos to the Pilots and Med Staff... Nice work.!!!
I would have thought the driver of the white van on the right should have moved it away to give the pilot more space to manoeuvre (or the police should have asked him to move for take off!).
At 0:55 you see the driver leaning inside the back of the van. He then must shut the back door and clear off! Can't let anything interfere with what job (looked like a plumber or heating engineer by the tubes on the roof) he was doing. Police should have put him straight.
I'm not sure I know what you mean!
