Games get the "AAA" stamp purely on the money invested into marketing and the amount of time and thought that goes into the cash shop. Which is probably around the 80% mark, or something. The other 20% goes into the actual gameplay, and it's just not enough and it shows. I'm in my early 30s but even I can remember how games used to be in the late 90s and early 2000s before most of the big companies got bloated up into these huge cash cows they are now. There are enough Indy games that are truly "AAA" titles.
Jim Sterling, Worth a Buy, and now SomeOdinaryGamers. I love all three of these channels, but this confuses me a bit. Don't get me wrong Avengers is not a perfect game, but it is getting way more of a beating than it deserves. For the record its a beat em up style game, for those of you who dont know that's a genre of game going all the way back to Double Dragon from 1987. I think people's main issue with this game is the micro-transactions, and i agree, micro-transactions are not good for the gaming environment. However, It is much more reasonable in Avengers than everyone is letting on. I'm only 6 hours into the game, and already have four cosmetic looks for Iron Man alone, and there are over 20 more i will get at no extra charge. Infact every character in this game has about 20 cosmetic appearances that you will unlock. Also this game does have gliches, and has crashed on me more than once. If these issues are never fixed, then yes, that is not acceptable. But if they do get this game fixed up, It could be a 7/10 type of game. Ive been having alot of fun with it, but you guys have to remember its a beat em up, so yes some of the characters are going to feel similar.
It's another shameful shallow sad (SSS?) cash grab. I hope pissing all over the license and its fans was worth it. You know back in the day gear used to be the stats AND the cosmetics. The unique model identified players that were tough and did the work to get that gear. Now the gear is just stats no one cares about while the cosmetic changes are sold separately in a store. All that DLC is on top of an 80$ entry fee. I almost feel bad for Marvel fans, but then again, if they're stupid enough to buy this game and its DLCs; they get what they get.
Funny enough I got around 50 skins without spending a penny, also changing looks doesn't work on avengers cause they have to look the certain way. Also you didn't see all cause you have to be certain power lvl to unlock end game content. On the other stuff I agree . keep in mind this is release give it time
I remember the same problem from the arpg Marvel Heroes. Game makers simply arn't allowed to have visual differences for individual pieces of gear because Marvel will only approve certain full costumes. Generally already established costumes from either comics or movies. So you'll never see an Ironman with some Mark 2 armor bits mixed with Mark 7 armor bits etc.
Its 2020 and game developers still can't get it right when it comes to gear in a game. They might want to take note of Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen. There was a reason to farm gear endgame so you could play the expansion. It was fun and worthwhile.
Mac, you're one of the last honest game reviewers. Keep doing what you're doing! Your truly honest assessment of games is the most trustworthy and accurate things that I can find online these days.
Normally I do actually enjoy to sit back on the console with a fun 3rd person action adventure without much challenge however this is just a spam fest even below my level
I 100% agree that gear drops should be cosmetic too, the whole reason I like playing games like destiny or For Honor is because the gear looks different as you progress, and getting a rare drop is a status symbol for your character. If you get an exotic gauntlet for iron man, literally no one would know since you look the same as a level 1 iron man.
@@IskenderCaglarM41B441 It's not though. This entire gen of games has been fucking abysmal especially for AAA MP games. Just catering to casuals and morons who buy hundreds of skins. And have 0 depth or skill to learn and build on.

And a few are average games praised as something more because gamers have low standards now (Looking at you god of war 2018)
11:34 this was also an unlockable camera mode for The 3rd Birthday (PSP - Square Enix)... but everything in the game (dirty outfits included) were on the disk and available for free.
this game is an MVP: Minimum Viable Product. I was over 100hrs into warframe (and still having fun) when a plot twist blew my mind and made me appreciate it even more, by that point I had earned over 10 characters, meaningful gear, mods, 100ish weapons (most very unique and interesting) . It justs makes me facepalm so hard when a AAA comes along and tries to copy a free game, but with all the greed and cynicism, but none of the ambition or passion. pathetic, but sadly the norm today is pathetic.
Perhaps console gamers will begin to understand how it feels to have their platform ruined by casualisation and inferior/affordable tech. I suppose they'll just be called elitists.
I love you even when you're given access to a free copy you still tell everyone how it is, and I totally agree with the looting system, there is no point grinding a game out for cosmetics.. lovely insightful review and I LOVE your voice to RIP into those who would have bought into those cosmetics, I have taken to mimicking that voice when I mock certain things. keep up the great content!
I want a Marvel's Knights game like this. Black Widow, Blade, Electra, Ghost Rider, Punisher, DareDevil, Moon Knight, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Cloak and Dagger.
As I said in the review it's not all bad, one of my thumb up comments is some missions are great. I had maybe 4 or 5 great missions with Iron Man, felt really cool but then I was given them again and again and again rinse repeat, so shallow after the campaign.
As do I but a lot of these are fair points. Tho I disagree with the mashiness (there are many combo videos out there showing the creativity possible) Ultimately I like these types of games. I play The Division and Destiny. I find Anthem boring but I'm looking forward to the rework hopefully it makes it fun. Enjoy what you enjoy. That's all that matters.
The story was alright, with an interesting take on the characters. The loot aspect is terrible, and the combat is too simple yet has way too many perks. It should have been a linear game like Arkham.
Definitely understand the criticism form an objective point of view. But personally I've been having a blast with the game. The fact that you get to play as the avengers is enough for me. Wasn't expecting anything ground breaking just a simple action game that lets you play as earth's mightiest heroes.
I was very worried that it wasn't going to be a candid review because of the thanks given to the developer who supplied the review code but boy was I wrong.
I love Marvel and marvels Spider-Man was an awesome game. BUT I could never support this, these games put a profound statement to corporate based development that you can take beloved franchises and leach as much money from people at the degradation of what makes games great. Watching other reviewers give this 8.5 and higher seriously pisses me off what is happening to gaming everyone.....
This looks like an unloved proof-of-concept for an eventual MMO game that will build on this game's systems, and using the feedback from (honest) reviewers and gamers. Best of all, you get to pay for the pleasure of QAing their next game for them.

Wtf are you on about lol
@@Thefirespinproject fr lmao.. you can play iron man many diff ways.. just depends how you build him. He has some cool projectile builds
Evidentally you didnt hit heavy attack once...or hover or anything else.
@@samwallace7341 honestly half the people complaining about the game haven't played it tbh
@@dylano3163 so this games wab?
Im surprised you didn't put Black Widows Rubbery Ass in Pros at the end
This game looked like shite from a mile away. I wouldn't download it for free....
black widow walks like she's on the verge of touching cloth (or rubber whatever)
The saddest thing is this garbage will sell a lot thanks to marvel fanboys
I love the Marvel universe, and I won't buy this shit. Even on sale.
@@IPM71 you are a fan, not a fanboy
You're right. modern gamers will flock to this trash.
it has a 5.7 user score i think itsa flop
nah will not, i'm a big fan of Marvel, if i can STOP and boycotting these illegal microtransaction then other players can
It's not just a console game, it's in the remedial school of console games - Just a smidgen above mobile game.
This games marketing was literally "no loot boxes" but it has every other micro transaction in a single player game ffs.
Imagine if Insomniac made this game instead of Square Enix.
Or Platinum Games ... oh well.
Andrej Mišún Platinum Games would be cool too
They gave him a review key lol
"Black Widow has a rubbery ass"
10/10 IGN
Perfectly reviewed. I knew after 10 minutes of playing the beta that this game was not worth buying
😭😭😭 he went ham , I didn’t really get any bugs , just finished the campaign it wasn’t that bad , now imma see end game if it is the same stuff that’s wack but didn’t they say we would be getting new missions regularly
Lmao Square Enix is probably like "Yea... lets not send him a free key again"
Maybe I should wait for a sale. I was interested in the story, but I guess everything else just won’t make it worth $60.
rip my hype
Games get the "AAA" stamp purely on the money invested into marketing and the amount of time and thought that goes into the cash shop. Which is probably around the 80% mark, or something. The other 20% goes into the actual gameplay, and it's just not enough and it shows. I'm in my early 30s but even I can remember how games used to be in the late 90s and early 2000s before most of the big companies got bloated up into these huge cash cows they are now.
There are enough Indy games that are truly "AAA" titles.
I'm also 90's kid and I bought Tony hawk 1+2 instead and I'm having a blast.
“Can you spot the difference between these two pictures?”:
*Avengers game*
*Destiny*
“They’re the same picture.”
This looks worst I think.
WideSplit yeah yeah avengers is way worse I was just talking about the looting system 😂
Just watching these reviews, I feel like I've played this game for 40 hours and already bored out of my tree.
I disagree that reaction time doesn't count as "skill". Skill has a lot of subsets, that is one of them.
More hyped for this review than any game this year
Funny enough I got around 50 skins without spending a penny, also changing looks doesn't work on avengers cause they have to look the certain way. Also you didn't see all cause you have to be certain power lvl to unlock end game content. On the other stuff I agree . keep in mind this is release give it time
Fuck that
11:35
LOL working as intended or until some insane reeee about miSoGeNY.
Never clicked on a video so fast.
DING DING DING
Iron Man...not being able to afford anything after about 20 hours? My immersion is shattered.
I hear ya. I just got back from work and about to sink on the couch and play some Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze.
There's no adventure in this action adventure.
Since I tend to expect a turd every time I see AAA for the last 10 or so years... I am not surprised this to be what it is... a turd
lamebubblesflysohigh Last 10 years is a bit much
what about CD Project Red and Rockstar?
@@IskenderCaglarM41B441 It's not though. This entire gen of games has been fucking abysmal especially for AAA MP games. Just catering to casuals and morons who buy hundreds of skins. And have 0 depth or skill to learn and build on.

@@IskenderCaglarM41B441 Majority of the games you listed aren't from this generation of consoles... Also all of them are SP games. MP AAA is fucking abysmal and I won't hear otherwise. SP wise they are still good but they aren't making as many top tier SP games as they were last gen still.
Also no offence but some of those games are not good. And a few are average games praised as something more because gamers have low standards now (Looking at you god of war 2018)
11:34 this was also an unlockable camera mode for The 3rd Birthday (PSP - Square Enix)... but everything in the game (dirty outfits included) were on the disk and available for free.
Yeah everything you expect from a AAA game.
overrated, over priced and buggy.
Don't forget MTX and BS passes
Djepsi which are optional.
These game companies truly don't care anymore. They know little drug ridden kids are going to buy it anyway.
@@woodsy.2977 It doesn't matter. It's included in a $90 dollar game.
If it was free I could understand it.
traykey except for FromSoftware games I always have high expectations for those because they are the only ones left who actually give a shit.
this game is an MVP: Minimum Viable Product.
Here before the video gets taken down 🙄 keep doing you Mack
Black Widows Rubbery Ass?
Alright I'm sold!
They should add the "cinematic camera angle for Black Widow" to the money-store and would make a fortune.
It's so console it's almost phone.
Perhaps console gamers will begin to understand how it feels to have their platform ruined by casualisation and inferior/affordable tech. I suppose they'll just be called elitists.
I'm surprised that there's no autopilot feature
I love it, you got the scene in again. (radio on) "yeah yeah it's a console game" (radio off)
If this sells well, the grooming is complete.
Mack is one of the few honest ones left in the biz, it seems.
not really i was dissapointed that this review isnt him at all, the soft voice tone f XD. shame on you Mr. Mac XD.
@@ukchub6633 he was still honest tho. I wish he was a bit more aggressive too though. More bell ringing the better
I want a Marvel's Knights game like this. Black Widow, Blade, Electra, Ghost Rider, Punisher, DareDevil, Moon Knight, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Cloak and Dagger.
Never clicked on a notification so fast in my life 🍿🍿🍿
I'm so happy this (review) came out today. My Friday just got better! Thanks, Mac!
Eh, I am actually enjoying this game.
Tho I disagree with the mashiness (there are many combo videos out there showing the creativity possible)
Ultimately I like these types of games. I play The Division and Destiny. I find Anthem boring but I'm looking forward to the rework hopefully it makes it fun.
Enjoy what you enjoy. That's all that matters.
I got this for free with a 10700k and I think I'd rather just sell the key
The story was alright, with an interesting take on the characters. The loot aspect is terrible, and the combat is too simple yet has way too many perks. It should have been a linear game like Arkham.
Epic review once again, thanks for saving me money on this tosh!
I was on the ledge, about to buy...but I am glad I waited for Mack to see he thoughts. Mac, thanks bud...you saved me some $$$.
"Biggest grind I've seen in a videogame, and I've played vanilla WoW" Call me when you played oldschool EQ
Definitely understand the criticism form an objective point of view. But personally I've been having a blast with the game. The fact that you get to play as the avengers is enough for me. Wasn't expecting anything ground breaking just a simple action game that lets you play as earth's mightiest heroes.
Yeah yeah its a console gamer!
The opening shot of Iron Man flying I thought was taken from the Iron Man 360 game.
Biggest grind? I suppose you don't know War Thunder
I was very worried that it wasn't going to be a candid review because of the thanks given to the developer who supplied the review code but boy was I wrong.
"It is the biggest grind I've ever seen in a video game, and I've played vanilla Wow". You memba, I memba. 😂🤣
Aren’t you gonna say the thing
Mack:what?
A console, a console port.
Somehow, I just knew to expect the review to go like this from the title alone ;-)
Hi Mack.
love your reviews!
was just wondering what your outro music is?
thank you for putting the song clip in
This looks like an unloved proof-of-concept for an eventual MMO game that will build on this game's systems, and using the feedback from (honest) reviewers and gamers. Best of all, you get to pay for the pleasure of QAing their next game for them.
Last scene remake:
- Are you gonna say the thing?
- What?
- You know... It's a console port.
