@@JimSterling It was a beautiful piece of poetry. It's very much as if the game was hearing what you were saying about it and just went "oh, fair point" then sighs and commits suicide.

PS. Dont be a game hating sheep , look into it yourself. dont trust this dude for anything.
To be fair they did rerelease Endgame with 6 extra minutes of content just to make it pass Avatar and a third of those minutes were just a Far From Home trailer
You do realise you can easily get the battle passes for free by just playing the game. Jim and others like him just like manipulating facts to fit their narrative and make it far worse than it actually is. Plus all new heroes and areas will be free. It’s funny how people expect companies to spend the next years making free content and not implement a way of making a profit.
No, the game just looks dull cause they desaturated everything, including the mtx costumes. They did that because they wanted the game to have a "realistic" art style. Cause if you go outside irl everything will look desaturated. The people who made this game, from the publisher all the way to the devs, are a joke.
@@radarphaser Ya I'm having a blast with it. I love looter games so it's right up my alley. People have differences of opinion and enjoy different things, crazy concept, huh?
For me the first trailer i didnt mind it i just didnt like the designs for characters cause they didnt look at all interseting, but when the guy on the stage in e3 said it was gonna be live service game all my curiousity was gone and i knew it would be trash
Yeah, it doesn't take a lot to know that a comic book / movie, triple A game from one of the most overrated franchises is going to be a tie in cashgrab. I was a comic book fan starting with comic books from the 80's-90's after that it went downhill. You can see yourself on TH-cam people reviewing the newer comics, which aren't worth the paper they are printed on. I don't mind the "pandering" as much as some other, but it's noticeable that the printed comic book industry is clawing for relevancy.
The plain, copy and pasted potato faces of all the chars put me off pretty much instantly when that trailer dropped. Not hella surprising to see the art direction in this is lifeless over all. Even as background filler in this video it's so uninteresting to see.
@@theblackbaron4119 That was really the deathblow to *any* excitement I might have had for this thing, they neither embraced the looks of the MCU, *nor* the of the comic books! The Black Baron Based on that comment about people reviewing comics on TH-cam, I bet you’re one of those people who support Comicsgate despite them creating trash as well. Take that MadWorld themed moniker off. You don’t deserve it.
@@samwatson-tayler2805 Not to mention they consistently make better games of their IPs than the officially licensed products. Sure there are exceptions to that, I find the Arkham games are better than the Lego Batman series, but that's to be expected - I'd be comparing apples with oranges. But The Complete Saga is still held up as one of the best Star Wars games alongside the likes of Battlefront 2 (2005), KOTOR, and Jedi Academy. The Harry Potter years 1-7 collection is better than essentially every HP game to date, even if the game adaptations of the first two novels bring nostalgia to many. The Lego Marvel games are certainly better than The Avengers 2020, but also surpass every Marvel game that isn't Spider-Man PS1 and Spider-Man PS4. Then you have the various others without notable competition like Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Jurassic Park and Lego Pirates Of The Caribbean. Lego games fascinate me in that they have the same formula yet make this formula work for each style of game they do.
The wasted potential here is the worst part of it, they could've gone the Marvel's Spider Man PS4 route and it would've made an excellent story driven game
They could've done it with multiplayer like alliance and just had set characters to choose from or even add slight differences in the missions for the different characters abilities, they made it too homogenised by trying to add all the characters in with the monetization on top and ended up making the gameplay around the characters too generic to care
Yeah, but story-driven singleplayer games just don't sell these days, y'see. At least that what these live service peddlers keep trying to tell us. We all know the real reason: story-driven singleplayer games are harder to monetize the shit out of. And as Jim has told us several times before, AAA game studios would rather make no money than some money if they can't have all of the money.
This game is a perfect example of why this trend of cramming "loot" into every game is so frustrating. This is the worst one yet because the loot is literally just numbers on the screen and has no cosmetic effect on your characters.
I hate how "loot" has become such a hated term. When such RNG is implemented well and without greed, it can really add to the experience. Just look at games like Pokemon or Borderlands.
I can't help but find it amusing, that they did this with a super hero IP. One thing about Super Heroes is that a lot of them have iconic (actually iconic, not ubiconic) weapons, that are unique and sentimental to the character. (Thor's hammer, Cap's Shield, Tony Stark's pink, lacy thong.) It's been a while, since i binged the MCU movies but wasn't there a scene, where some dude explained to Captain America, that his shield was unique and made out of a dwarf allow and that the whole point of that, was that it was somewhat reflective of Captain America himself? In this universe, that scene would be interrupted by some bloke, walking in. He'd gesture to his car boot, full of them and saying 'nah mate, that's naff! Oi got a bettah one, just waitin' for ye out back! It's made of a super duper dwarf allow, that's even more unique!'
@@Ali009Ahmed Everyone loves loot, it's inherently awesome. It's just that so many games do it terribly. It was what made Diablo 3 so mundane, and elevated POE to stardom. It's what killed Anthem, yet made Borderlands so fun. Borderlands 3 has a mediocre story, but you can find so much awesome loot all the time, and customization options outside of MTXs. Hopefully studios will learn how important both of those things are to people wanting to keep playing your LOOTer shooter.
I blame those that Cried about how cosmetics meant nothing to them because they are so creatively devoid of Imagination and Joy they can only see Numbers. cause then the AAA game industry heard those people and thought "Well if they don't care that much..... we might be able to sell the cosmetics back to those that do, and we'll still have an audience
For those defending it, I ask them this: if this game wasn’t Avengers skinned, and it was a new IP, would you like it? The fact it was Avengers made me download the beta, but that surface paint soon wore thin and what I saw beneath the Iron Man armour was a boring and bland experience that didn’t control particularly well and was so repetitive.
think of anthem, that game played a lot like Iron Man does here, yet everyone hated that. But because its marvel and people will eat up whatever they dish out they wot hate it

@Spencer JL Its a way too devalue your physical copy as much as they can. Look at SFV the last one Champion edition or something its SFV. With all the extra characterslots that you can not select without the codes just too tell you FU your physical copy is nothing its worthless.
That Taskmaster fight was horrible. The reason I never got into the Division series was because of the fact that it took dozens of bullets to the face to take down enemies. There's a sort of disconnect there, where shooting an enemy in the face with a gun doesn't automatically kill them with no other explanation than they're a "higher level" than me. Like Superman 64 with Supes flying through random rings at a slow plodding pace. The Hulk punching the Taskmaster and not immediately killing him produces the same kind of feeling. It's the damn Taskmaster, he's not super powered in ANY way. and he's just taking hits like it's nothing. When the game was initially announced, I didn't think much of it. But seeing it in action makes me glad I'm not picking it up.
I remember when Tom Clancy games were all about being super realistic with a bit of an arcade twist to make it easier for players to jump in. All that shit started to unravel when Vegas came out with its 3rd person nonsense to see around corners that they just took straight from Splinter Cell and added it to all the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games just because it worked so well in Splinter Cell... ignoring WHY it worked so well in Splinter Cell. VERY different kind of games.
This sounds perfect for me. I’ve needed something to hold me over while I’ve been waiting for the second part of “Unearthed: The Trail of Ibn Battuta” to come out.
"It's a terrible game. A vapid product. It'll probably make a lot of money." That description is sadly indicative of the games industry at large, at the moment. Maybe not for every major game, but for a lot of them.
Remember, the games industry entirely sustains itself on stupid people these days. Smart people are too hard to cater to, which is why the "triple-AEYYY" publishers specifically target the dumb and gullible- their money is just as good, and they don't need quality to be sucked in, only hype.
@@KapinKrunch "For some reason I'm still enjoying it". Not to be _too_ rude, but I suspect the reason is simply that you're easily amused. I mean it's good that you can enjoy even bad games, but wouldn't you rather be having the time of your life playing a _good_ one instead?
"AAA Lie-ve Services": many people want to benefit from them, very few actually want to put in the effort to properly create and sustain them. I'm at the point where I expect these things to be bad, and will be surprised if they're good.
Ever since the term was coined, it was pretty clear that Publishers were making an intentional move away from delivering a quality "product" in favour of laying the groundwork for recurrent user spending. Live services are meant to be distinct from "games". They're meant to replace the traditional model of the one-time-purchase single player experience.
That's a complaint I started lodging a while back. "Live services will only take off and provide infinite money if the developer is willing to put infinite money into the game." World of Tanks, for instance, turned 10 this year, and that's a fucking free to play game.
That's why I'm not holding my breath for Halo. Any time a game has a name like 'infinite' I expect a live-service game constantly following me around trying to sell me shit that would have been in the game if it was singleplayer. (Well, singleplayer from 10 years ago. They put that shit in SP these days too)
"No charm, no character, nothing to say for itself, and nothing to offer..." Jim finally gives me the savage roasting I've always deserved. Thank God for Jim.

@@Shaneo0oo Uh...yes she was. It was the Red Rooms version of the super solider formula, and this is the main line 616 Black Widow. Maybe you should read a comic or two.
You see, this isn't anything like that. Melting down has a good context in America because it refers to our cultural diversity. This is not a melting pot. Melting down requires contributing. This takes the worst of other games. That's all.
"This is all of them (AAA games) melted down into a brown sludge and poured into a broken crackpot." -Jim Sterling I'd love to see that quote on the cover.
This is basically what "AAAA" games will all be. Every garbage AAA game melted into a slog of barely playable product just marketable enough to sell, overmonetized to hell with season passes, individual character season passes, multiples waves of paid DLC most likely ripped out of the core product to be resold, platform exclusive characters, carrier exclusive skins, store exclusives, pre order exclusives, and an inevitable reselling of the entire package in a couple years. All presented as generous endowments of content we have the privilege to pay literal hundreds of dollars for, *per game,* with a big ol' fancy Fuck You, You'll Buy It Anyway bow on top.
This is unfortunately one of those games where the developer knew just by name recognition it would make a lot of money, so why bother actually making a good functional game? They’ll do what every live service game is in business for, target the 12 year olds with crappy cosmetics, make their billions all the while never really fixing the glitch filled disaster that the poor hard working developers were forced to time crunch out. Bad games over the last decade or so are not a reflection on developers abilities at coding and design so much as it is on the super rich billionaires that own the companies and just wanna buy their 10th super yacht that they’ll just park in the Bahamas.
Thats not very fair, if the devs were just after a lazy crash grab they could have done bamham combat and got 10/10 score like spiderman, take a look at some combo videos, clearly there is depth to the gameplay.
It should have been a pure single-player/co-op game with none of the online guff they've got going on. Crystal Dynamics were clearly going in all different directions and it looks like just a bowl of rice, with nothing else.
Frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if this is Square Enix sending Crystal Dynamics on a suicide mission. They were responsible for the recent Tomb Raider games with diminishing returns, and The Quiet Man was so bad that it put Human Head Studios out of business. Square treats its Western subsidiaries no better than EA.
I feel really bad for the folk who inevitably had to crunch their asses off for this and the voice talent giving 100% to something as bargain bin as this looks and, by what I've watched here and elsewhere, to play.
The story is pretty good I like the game for what it is. It's fun to play as the Avengers it's a decent beat em up it's not amazing no it probably could have been better but I'm going to play it until I'm bored of it and enjoy the time I get out of it.
@@KapinKrunch I hope you have a good time then! I've got an offer to give 'er a go at a buddy's house? And I will, but it's looking more and more like I should just keep at Wasteland 3, Chronicon, or fuck even diablo 3 instead. I genuinely hope you get your monies worth out of it.
I'll tell you, the thing I really love about the characters in The Avengers is when they all go out to collect loot and break down things they've found so they can buy things in a shop! That's the most exciting unique thing about the Avengers!
Remember the Avenger's Vendor in the comics? What a badass. Always there with new gear for them all, even Tony. For a price, of course hahaha that was such a great recurring gag, wasn't it? Now I need to wash my hands and clean my keyboard for typing that crap.
I'mma go out on a limb here and say that's why they added in the auto-equip feature for 'gear'. This way, while you're leveling up you just menu in and hit a button, you're geared up and you keep going. You really only need to start looking at gear in these games once you're done with the initial story content and hit the endgame. That's when you start looking at builds. Not shilling for the game, just offering insight with my experience with other looter-style games. I get what Jim's saying, but I feel the action-rpg style of gameplay is a breath of fresh air compared to the MANY other looter shooters out there. I personally found the game fun as hell to play. The traversal didn't always work as expected, or so I thought, but honestly I'm used to a shitfuckton of shit going on screen. I have to disagree with Jim on the UI being cluttered tbh, at least relatively speaking that is. I've experienced much, MUCH worse in other games. Remember WoW anyone? Literally any MMORPG has random salad for a UI. Hell when I played Blade and Soul I spent days just customizing my UI so it wasn't always in my fucking way all the time, repositioning the character camera and other things to make the game feel more like an action RPG instead of an MMORPG. This game COULD do with an adjustable player camera, as well as be able to adjust the intensity of screen effects and such. One thing Anthem DID get right was how adjustable the UI is. Hopefully devs are paying attention to all these little things, and one of them will crank out a truly good looter-style game and do it right. Personally I love Warframe but I get it's not most people's cup of tea. Just some food for thought. Personally I think it's idiotic to just go bashing something without trying to find some good things to say too.
Ah, yet another game I'll hear about in a year when somebody inevitably tells me "it's good now". Call me crazy but I remember a time not that long ago when games used to be good when they released. Perhaps not always polished perfectly but still a complete game. Not just a bare-bones structure meant to hang MT's on and slowly add anything worthwhile later on.
I always imagine it like a car being sold as just the frame and wheels and the motor, factory fresh. You want anything else, like seats, doors, or a steering wheel, etc. you're gonna end up paying extra
You know what's "good now"? Persona 4 Golden on Steam; it used to not work very well on many computers but now it works much better because it got a patch that was the same size as 1/3-1/2 of the base game size.
Remember: This took FIVE YEARS to make. Five years on what amounts to "'Immersive' Ultimate Alliance." And...just play Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. The script isn't...great, but still better than this. There's more heroes. More enemy variety. And better level design. It's not a top 10 best of the year contender, but it's not this.
So, square Enix has an action figure line called play arts Kai where essentially an artist or designer takes an existing marvel or DC character and gives them a redesign and then that design gets turned into a 12 inch action figure. A lot of the time it ends up with the comic book characters redesigned in this Japanese almost anime style aesthetic which on paper may not sound great but in execution the figures end up looking really interesting. I’m pointing this out because of Jim’s point about the uninspired designs in this game and I just wonder how cool it would’ve been if square enix actually were bold enough to go with the more eccentric and unique designs of the action figures that *THEY* produce instead of the generic, knock off designs we got. I probably would’ve bought the game just for that honestly.
That would mean the artist might get more royalties from their design. And as Jim said, this 'game' was made with Minimum Viability in cost and design.
@@ctographerm3285 Which also is probably the reason why they don't look anything like the MCU Avengers. SquEnix didn't want to pay the actors royalties for using their likeness (because you can bet your ass they have a clause for that in their contracts with Disney).

What a terrible idea that was.
Of all the things to turn into just another version of Destiny (the defining game of this soon-to-end console generation as Call of Duty was to the last), a game with superheroes seems to make the least sense of any of them. But here we are, with the Avengers (btw Jim, the X-Men would like to have a word with you about being Marvel’s most iconic franchise) and soon Gotham Knights doing exactly this.
Unless it's a MOBA or a fighter queuing as many ironman is gonna get boring really fast in an instance multiplayer rpg when people play characters the didn't create
It will be interesting gaming industry story gap, when 1980's,1990's,early 2000's games will be playable via offline/dedicated server means, and 2010's and 2020's games will be unplayable, because Live Service went into Dead Service.
if people can mine enough of the source code they could make private servers and keep any game alive. Thats how WOW Classic stayed a thing for over a decade before Blizzard made it official.
True, but a few years ago I found my old Snes and the few games I had not sold as a teenager and while it was still working those games were no fun anymore. xD Often times our fond memories are better than the actual product. That being said most games of the past 5 years were shit. Except if they didn't come from one of the big names maybe.
To bs fair, they wont miss much and these sort of videos will provide more than enough material for this sort of garbage, and the good ones(?) will be supported by the fans and restored similar to WOW classic.
Because that's what you'd expect your younger cousin or nephew or something to blurt out when they find out that none of the actors from the movies are in the game. They honestly do look like dollar store knock-offs though, tbf to kids.
They probably should have went with more stylized, comicbook-esque visuals. Make the characters less realistic and avoid the incoming comparisons to the MCU. But then they would have had to throw away the MCU visual link. This could have been great if the style was more like Marvel vs. Capcom or one of the latest Street Fighter games.
"the visual effects that blister all over the screen" Dude I called this specifically as something that would make this game ugly as sin. The minute I saw Mjolnir constantly glowing and throwing sparks all over the place I knew this was a super cheap shit show. Now I'm seeing more gameplay and its like they needed every stupid thing to glow in this game. Its ugly as fuck. I guess good on them for being up front about the microtransaction shit even in the earliest trailers I guess, I didnt even have to dodge a bullet since the shooter texted me to move out of the way before he even started to consider pulling the trigger.
The action just feels like it has no weight. Like you're playing animations and damaging things the animation touches, rather than actually punching or shooting something that has weight and resistance.
Like, I'm watching the characters and they look as if their giving it their all with each hit dealing some big damage. However then I look at the enemy's health bar...

It's going to be released in one of those boxes that have reviewer quotes on the back, and it's going to say "Marvel's Avengers is the true AAA video game experience" -Jim Sterling
Is there a term for a situation where someone means to insult something/someone, but the target takes it as a compliment? Because a AAA developer/publisher would absolutely fall prey to that.
DE2 (that is what I am calling it) did not perform well. Much of the problem is SE, but part of the problem is the developer (but those problems might be caused by SE too, so...).
Or maybe this game does well and it will allow the developers to do Deus-ex or single player projects with a more centered story. Or you can stick to your word and burn your copy of Jedi Dark Order.
“Minimum artistic direction” THAT’S IT, that’s the PERFECT description for this trash that, from the moment they revealed it, I could tell had no soul whatsoever.
The minimum artistic direction helps the MCU because it gives the audience a point of reference into its world. It absolutely doesn't work in a video game, where the physic is a bit more loose, and your mind picks up the million ways it is different from real life.
@@kingsleycy3450 there's a massive difference between minimum artistic direction and making things more "real". just look at Doctor Strange, IMO the marvel movie that did the best job at transitioning the comic to film, as a massive Dr Strange fan it genuinely felt like it conveyed the scope and scale of the comics with it's portrayal of Dormammu and how Stephen's magic works
"no hint of story" Meanwhile trailers and talks for the past year were about a helicarrier causing a city wide meltdown on A-Day leading to the separation of the avengers and how we are tasked to reassemble them which is what you literally do in the campaign. Yeah. No story.

@@Bookish1995 I don't think people genuinely think this is bad. It's a smashy beat-em-up with flashy graphics. Problem is that there are many games that do that just as well, or better, that have been out for years, that you can pick up for $20, no microtransactions. What has people up in arms is that there was potential here. Somewhere in there is a game that everyone wanted to play. All of this negative press is a reaction to frustration, disappointment- the notion that they were SO CLOSE, and then deliberately drove the thing off the cliff.
Is it just me or is that black widow character movements and action look very much like a spiderman character model.... yet spiderman is meant to be DLC.... yeah this game is a cash grab
As I sit there and watch them whale on each enemy for 20-30 seconds at a time I wonder yet again why games about superheroes insist on making the mooks damage sponges. Unless it’s a major villain, you should be mowing down the jabronis.
Marvelfan Maybe you would, I wouldn’t. Given the power levels involved, games like that should be probably more like Dynasty Warriors as far as low level mooks go.
I was trying to think of the best way to describe how this game looks and feels, and it's that episode of Futurama where the crew got thrown into an alternate reality via a box and they decide to call their universe A, and the universe they jumped into B? And the inhabitants of B were offended and said "How come you get to be universe A?" and Fry says "Eh, this place kind of feels like a "B" you know?" This feels like if the MCU cast got thrown into this universe and met these versions of themselves, they're the MCU B lol
I know exactly what you mean. But I'd say calling these guys avengers from universe B is rather generous. They're more like the fifth or sixth box they jump into towards the end of that episode.
@@SomeAssh0le then their timing sucks, releasing this when the MCU is what's popular and still fresh in everybody's minds was the first (but not the last) thing that hurt its credibility lol

If you compare the potential of an Avengers game to what they've delivered, it feels like one of the biggest failures I've ever seen, and I've seen some pretty shit games in my life.
@Naquin Green I actually see where he comes from, at least Anthem had an semi-original idea. That was the only point going for it. Marvels Avengers doesn`t even have that.^^
you gotta remember games like this are primarily aimed at extremely casual players who have minimal experience with "good" games. hence why it gets rushed and chocked full of transactions.
It's also aimed at Marvel fanboys/fangirls who will buyanything with the Marvel brand stamped on it and sing it's praises. Between those two groups the game will turn a profit sadly.
The odd thing is that there are plenty of cool looking versions of the characters from the Marvel comics to take designs from, get inspiration from and such like. Yet somehow they failed doing even that. It's not that they don't look like in the movie, that's... fine. Honestly, I don't mind if they don't look like in the movie. But Steve Rogers in this looks like Mr. Incredible on a bad day! Basically the LEGO Marvel games are still better than this, despite its simplicity. XD
They literally made them as close to the movie versions as possible without it being 1:1 ripoff because I'm assuming they don't have the rights to use the actors' likeness and they sure as fuck don't want to spend the budget on getting the actual actors, so we get the worst copycat cosplayer versions of the Avengers one can imagine. But it is ironically perfectly fitting as everything in this game is as bland and dull as it gets.
You know, it took me a moment watching the footage but I finally realized what this reminds me of...it looks like a cheap knockoff of DC universe online.
I know it was free to play but marvel heroes was a far better arpg. Sadly that game went under. Which should be a warning to anyone looking at anyblive service game asking you to pay for digital goods. What happens when the servers go or they decide to pull the plug. None of the characters or skins i bought in marvel heroes exist anymore now that its offline. Look at madden. None of the shit you buy in one version carries over. They explicitly expect you to rebuy all the same shit. And i dont even like or play Madden. Ill stick with ultimate alliance 1-3. I recentlu found i could emulate xmen legends.
I couldn't get past the "uncanny valley" visuals. It looks good, but something about it just looks off and weird. Ultimate Alliance 3 retained the comic book feel and that game looked great. Here, they are trying for realism, but I guess they go the COD route rather than adding more colors. Spiderman had colors and contrast, here it just all looks washed out. Ms.Marvel powers in the game along with the uncanny valley visuals makes her look especially disgusting. This game might have been a little more appealing to me if we had player made characters. The initial trailers made it seem like that was the route they were going for, like DCU online with the science gas that grants powers. They were talking about it being a live service type online game and all that, so that was my initial expectation. Instead we get this. Eh, I like action games but there really isn't anything here for me.
@@Uldihaa Maybe but I believe dumb parents and Marvel fans will be enough to feed it for a while. When you have a massively popularly license like Marvel; it is guaranteed some degree of success no matter how bad the game actually is. We've seen this plenty of times before, such as with EA's Battlefronts.
Marvel has some of the most colorful superheroes and comics, even more than DC imo. This is devoid of all of that color and costumes and just amazing art style from the comics across the years.
@@adrianaviles8860 dude Tony has three variations of his full suit and they just added a bunch of different colors to them without changing the suit at all. Spidermans suits on the ps4 are all unique and have their very own design and guess what... It's for FREE. Why tf are they charging people for a different reskin of the same suit? Its sad that gamers like you don't see how scummy these pricks are being with this game
I was mildly interested in this game when the first trailer released. I think a well-made, singleplayer action game where the main draw is that there is a massive amount of iconic characters with unique abilities could be great. And then I saw a screenshot of the destiny style menu screen with 5 different currencies and a bunch of variations of the same piece of gear with different power levels and I immediately lost all hope. Why does Iron Man have to go grinding to get better gear, why do any of them?? It's such a strange choice for an Avengers game that the only possibility for why the game is like this is so they could squeeze as much money out of the Avengers brand as possible, although I guess that should've been obvious from the start.
It's so wild seeing you play Iron Man and using his unique flight abilities to... glide around the exact same combat arena. Didn't the E3 demo show completely different environments for each hero, including flying missions? I'm with Jim, this seems like it should have been singleplayer. Instead all the characters are squashed down so they fit in the same generic arenas.
I watched maybe 5 hours of play on Twitch last night and that was probably pulled from some of the opening story missions. Like Jim mentions in the video, the game has a couple hours starting out where it looks like they were making a single player game where you swap between characters based on the situation happening in the story. Yeah, it's still got knock off character designs, overly dark color balancing, weird sound design, and the fighting looks like it's laggy to play with huge openings for enemies to interrupt you and knock you back (despite at times them 100% blocking if you don't throw a full swing)... but at least it looked like it was trying to tell a story. And then at a certain point you reach what they likely consider the game hub world, and that's where the dumb missions start. It was remarkable seeing how even the very first mission swapped from the cinematic environment design where it had clearly been set up to facilitate some story beat or chase, and instead moved to a very awkward arena with destructible boxes all over the place, floating platforms, and a mission objective that was essentially "King of the Hill" mode for a set period of time. There was even a character telling you when loot was in the area so you'd try to find it, because it's actually hard to tell where some of it is at a glance with how stupid the stage was set up. That was also the first mission you could pull multi-player support into, so clearly it was one of the templates they expect to use repeatedly, maybe with different platform and crate layouts. Between such a drastic difference in the styles of story levels versus mission levels, and the absolute deluge of currencies and other nonsense they want you to micromanage, it sealed it for me that I have no interest in buying the game.
That flight mode iron man can go into at anytime the problem is its useless most maps are not open enough to use it in any way punching and shooting like all the other characters its in the game just point less
Classic Shotgun Oh I know you can turn it off. It was literally the first thing I did after I punched something. But default settings reflect design priorities and this game has a million little things that all scream, “style over substance, cinema over gameplay.” And it bothers me. Also I just hate screen shake, unless we’re taking Nuclear Throne or something where it’s a purposeful element of the difficulty, but that’s not the case here.

They intentionally gave them dull looks to entice you to "liven" them up with microtransactions
No, the game just looks dull cause they desaturated everything, including the mtx costumes. They did that because they wanted the game to have a "realistic" art style. Cause if you go outside irl everything will look desaturated. The people who made this game, from the publisher all the way to the devs, are a joke.

I honestly like this idea since i liked alliance and dc universe but I don't like the added paywalls like every character having a battlepass
They couldn't have Monitized the living fuck out of it if they did that.
They could've done it with multiplayer like alliance and just had set characters to choose from or even add slight differences in the missions for the different characters abilities, they made it too homogenised by trying to add all the characters in with the monetization on top and ended up making the gameplay around the characters too generic to care

I can't help but find it amusing, that they did this with a super hero IP.
One thing about Super Heroes is that a lot of them have iconic (actually iconic, not ubiconic) weapons, that are unique and sentimental to the character. (Thor's hammer, Cap's Shield, Tony Stark's pink, lacy thong.)
It's been a while, since i binged the MCU movies but wasn't there a scene, where some dude explained to Captain America, that his shield was unique and made out of a dwarf allow and that the whole point of that, was that it was somewhat reflective of Captain America himself?
In this universe, that scene would be interrupted by some bloke, walking in. He'd gesture to his car boot, full of them and saying 'nah mate, that's naff! Oi got a bettah one, just waitin' for ye out back! It's made of a super duper dwarf allow, that's even more unique!'

Preach !

It's a looter shooter so I don't see how it can ever be good, tbh

Aiming to be an absolute trainwreck is pretty... jarring, to say the least.
10:10 my favorite part of Avenger's was when the whole group stood around an enemy punching him while he didn't even react.

"These are loser Avengers"
Something about that made me laugh so hard
Because that's what you'd expect your younger cousin or nephew or something to blurt out when they find out that none of the actors from the movies are in the game. They honestly do look like dollar store knock-offs though, tbf to kids.
The previews alone made me want to shout, "You IDIOTS! These are not them! You've captured their STUNT DOUBLES!"
Soooo... the Losengers ?

"the visual effects that blister all over the screen"
Dude I called this specifically as something that would make this game ugly as sin. The action just feels like it has no weight. Like you're playing animations and damaging things the animation touches, rather than actually punching or shooting something that has weight and resistance.
It’s a video game tho, of course it’s gonna be animations 😂like wtf y’all just saying anything

Is there a term for a situation where someone means to insult something/someone, but the target takes it as a compliment? Because a AAA developer/publisher would absolutely fall prey to that.
Can't believe they didn´t made another Deus-Ex because of this crap..
Hopefully with this out of the way and a successful release of Cyberpunk it will spur Square-Enix to let Eidos Montreal to make another Deus Ex.
DE2 (that is what I am calling it) did not perform well. Much of the problem is SE, but part of the problem is the developer (but those problems might be caused by SE too, so...).
Or a new Legacy of Kain..
Or maybe this game does well and it will allow the developers to do Deus-ex or single player projects with a more centered story. If something this simple (which you already despise) can be a cash cow for the studio's future, congratulations, you just realized how the gaming industry works. Or you can stick to your word and burn your copy of Jedi Dark Order.
@shindean if this game goes well what we will get is another Avengers game, not new Deus Ex.
“Minimum artistic direction”
THAT’S IT, that’s the PERFECT description for this trash that, from the moment they revealed it, I could tell had no soul whatsoever.

Yeah. No story.
This is the first time I bought a game I never intended to buy BECAUSE of the bad reviews.
It's not that bad, Ive been thinking many TH-camrs recently have unfortunately put themselves in a box to satisfy their echochambers.
Jabronis? Hey. Cool word.
It’s called balance now should the time to kill be quicker sure
If you kill the enemies by fucking touching them, you’d be complaining it would be brainless and easy.
Marvelfan Maybe you would, I wouldn’t. Given the power levels involved, games like that should be probably more like Dynasty Warriors as far as low level mooks go.
Marvelfan are you just here to stan this game?
So do you not like the game because of the gameplay or becuse the rights for the likeness of the actors was most likely expensive
Except nothing about this game is MCU. They did a lot of work to make these characters as close to their comic book counterparts as possible.

the main reason for this game is
1: to cash in the MCU hype
2: ms marvel "inclusivity" is there to hype up her MCU introduction in phase 4 woke direction to replace peter parker as main roles hence she had an important role in the game and cap is dead somewhat
3: she's a base character instead of ant man and the wasp or other OG avengers cause she's not valuable as DLC
3: making base skin bland to entice sheeps to buy skins
4: making it live service is tencent squenix partner consultancy in action
5: more woke things are coming in the future and it's all disney's doing
At least Anthem looked better
I don't understand how you can bring something so interesting like the avengers and make it so lifeless
I have had shit's with more life in them

It’s not
It’s not bro. Trust me it’s not anthem
Ha I called it.
@Naquin Green I actually see where he comes from, at least Anthem had an semi-original idea. That was the only point going for it. Marvels Avengers doesn`t even have that.^^
@Spencer JL You have a point!
you gotta remember games like this are primarily aimed at extremely casual players who have minimal experience with "good" games. hence why it gets rushed and chocked full of transactions.
So we’re back to the old standard of movie tie-in shovelware?
Islacrusez yep
But do those types of gamers even play live service games really? Lol
It's also aimed at Marvel fanboys/fangirls who will buyanything with the Marvel brand stamped on it and sing it's praises. Between those two groups the game will turn a profit sadly.
Morrigan Renfield have you heard of FarmVille? Imagine that grade of casual crowd.
XD
The probably really cool comic skins you'll have to buy
They literally made them as close to the movie versions as possible without it being 1:1 ripoff because I'm assuming they don't have the rights to use the actors' likeness and they sure as fuck don't want to spend the budget on getting the actual actors, so we get the worst copycat cosplayer versions of the Avengers one can imagine. But it is ironically perfectly fitting as everything in this game is as bland and dull as it gets.

The real question is whether it has a roadmap. That would solve all the issues, right?
Until they announce it then leave it uncomplete. I'm going to say 6-9 months then they'll abandoned it.
I hear it'll have at least 4 phases
6-9 months that’s generous,
Their roadmap will require a roadmap like Star Citizen
Ironically, its cinematic counterpart is famous for diligently following through a roadmap. I don't expect the same level of care here.
I think in the main story he has a couple of flying segments. Just a couple though
@@HawkEyeTS funny enough on PC you can add colour to the game and it's alot more nicer on the eyes

@@RodaMoonknight well i have a neutral stance on MTX, I dont think MTX is bad just for being MTX, its just that only a few games have done it decently and right
@@sh9jscg Not disagreeing with you, but what games have done it right? So far the only one I can think of that felt fair in that regard is Warframe.
@@sh9jscg any game that charges upfront to play can't do MTX right or decently.
0:43 "the camera, the goddamn camera that feels like it was ripped from the year 2008" Yup always found this to be consistent in Sqaure Enix games of late. FF7 Remake was an issue for me as well and same for FF15.
Apparently "combat with flying enemies" is their Achilles' Heel.
Luc R Their visual effects barf is another problem, since kingdom hearts they just cram glowy mess everywhere
True noticed it in ff7 remake too
@@doctordoom8472 Yeah, that's what I was mainly referencing. It's so bad even when you're not in an enclosed arena, but when you ARE.... you have no clue what's actually happening, you're just mashing Square and hoping for the best.
@@Darkkfated exactly its a mess, when hulk is smashing the bots and ur team is there you cant see anything just things Blowing up lol i hope square enix learned from this while their making ff7 part 2 but i doubt it
Saddest part about this game: It will sell well. Marvel fanboys will just blindly buy this game, and either be disappointed or delude themselves into thinking it was worth it.
I agree, but I'm also a Marvel fanboy. I can see through the bullshit and will not be buying this. Hopefully I'm not the only one.
I will miss my £80 :( well one good thing is I learned never to pre order... AGAIN!
I honestly wouldn’t go off this review lot of biased points 🤦🏾♂️and he was on the hate train since it started🤷🏾♂️ I played and enjoyed it
Or C, never bought any of the Marvel multiplayer games of the past and this is my first game of this type. I understand older fans being cynical about all the aspects of this game style who have already dedicated themselves and played it before, but for new players like myself, it's fun and Kamala Khan's character is really well done.
I made a mistake of pre-ordering this shit and after playing beta I was like "wtf was I thinking? 🤦🏻♂️".
