Hunter & Medic should give you some really solid dps, but you do not have a revive. The Medics Healing Shield is great though. Currently leveling Hunter & Alchemist, which has similar synergies and is fun to play.
I played first Remnant solo and after certain point in game when i obtained good weapon it was a breeze. But earlier i had some problems in few levels. It was either too many enemies to kill them efficiently or lack of ammo. Bossfights with infinite ads were also a pain- making mistake and dying meant i had to restart, while teams had ability to revive. So it was obvious solo players were in worse position. Im glad they made Handler (and Challenger) classes, to give you extra chance to revive and someone to tank for you. I also think summoner is good idea, i was using some weapon spell in first one that was summoning these flying skulls and they were surprisingly good. I guess im gonna pick dogo and then summoner as subclass.
@LWKGD Subclass is probably wrong word, i meant secondary class. I heard that you can choose additional secondary class, but it will be weaker than main because it doesnt have its main perk. And Summoner is one of classes you can unlock by playing game.
@LWKGD Thanks, I was thinking that dps class like hunter/gunslinger was also a good choice for Challenger or Handler. I guess every combo of dps and support class works fine.
@@wholesomegamer yea I was thinking maybe I’d go challenger and handler but melee wasn’t great in the first game later on and I doubt it’ll be good late game In remnant 2
Just so everyone knows, there are two other classes tied to progression (one might be the gunslinger but I'm not sure if it's 2 more besides that one, I don't know what these other classes are, due to embargo). After seeing all the content regarding base classes, I've decided to run with challenger + handler. Handler prime perk does give a revive every 90's (a lot more often than 10 minutes) BUT it relies on the dog AI, requiring the use of a heart charge, AND if your dog goes down just before or after you do, you're sunk. The challenger revive is less frequent, but more reliable. Having challenger as main means you get strong back, so can wear heavier armor without penalty. When your dog is set to attack dog it obv fights in close range, synergising perfectly with you because you can fight alongside, making use of close range buffs. You can also make use of the dog's aoe defensive howl and your bulwark, stacking two sources of defense OR you can use the dog's attack buff howl and your own berserk ability to stack two sources of high single target ranged damage.
One class I already saw is called "Explorer", which was a little underwhelming from what I could make out in regard of skills and perks. Challenger and Handler is the combination I might also start with. Be tanky and use Support Dog as constant HoT beacon with a flash heal every 90sec. Only thing I don´t like shotguns and melee that much, that´s why I might use the Handlers damage perk instead of the Challengers as soon as I can dual-class.
@@wholesomegamer sounds decent. I also think that handler is the best starting class. Level it up to 10 while playing, then switch to challenger as main when the option arises, or whenever handler hits 10. As far as I'm aware, although classes start with particular weapons, they aren't limited to just those types. I think that challenger can also use HMG's. I saw that the HMG medics start with can be purchased from a vendor in ward 13 when you get there. Like with other "souls like games" I think that every class's base weapons can be bought if you're playing a different class which can use that weapon.
@@TheAllanmeadows The Challengers starting weapon is not the problem, but its damage perk, which includes "range to enemies". So as long as you cannot swap it out with f.e. the Handlers damage perk, you are stuck to close range fighting to be effective. That is the only downside for me as I prefer a more ranged approach.
@@wholesomegamer you can mix and match perks/skills from either your main or subclass. So you can use either the challenger's or handler's damage perk/skill if you prefer.

Excellent. How do you think a Handler - Summoner combo would go? For extra survivability, slot the Soul Link ring, the Siphoner, Rugged, Blood Bond, Revivalist, Regrowth and Triage Traits. Cheers, Harry.
Im rly liking Gunslinger + Engineer. Gunslinger for extra ammo stockpile and the instant reload on skill use. Engineer simply for turret and armor bonus. The turret does dmg when you can focus on learning the boss 'dance'
I’m thinking a Handler/gunslinger build would fit my play style. I like this different options for the dog for support and then I can focus on DPS myself

@@JohnFluffy Yes, you can get the dog, but not the revive form the Handlers prime perk. Handler and Medic are both excellent secondary classes for solo players.
So many combos just sound crazy to me. Hunter/Gunslinger sounds ridiculous. Challenger/handler sounds unstoppable. Medic/challenger sounds immortal. I cannot wait to see all the Archetypes we can find in the world.
Hunter-Handler was my thinking, prior to seeing your video. I think equip the Hunter with a medium-ranged assault rifle or machine gun of some sort. Higher rate of fire with the damage bonuses from Hunter should be potent and the dog companion should help a lot. I'm going to play the Medic though also, because I enjoy playing healers and support in MMOs, so I think in later difficulties I'd enjoy Medic here. Probably Hunter-Handler to start though, modified to a mid-range fighter.
I also agree that this combo is strong. Versatile, high damage, self revive, and a pet to distract, the build Even shines in coop because the handlers support and utility and the hunter buffing ally damage
I personally do Handler + Engineer, my dog gets me free heals and revives and gives me a massive boost to skill and ranged damage and Engineer gives me massive DR and boosts skill damage. If i deploy both, i can get 11% DR with a ring and another 20% DR for being near the turret. If i need damage i can pick up the turret and take that sweet 60% increase from handler (since it counts as a skill and ranged) and another 50% from engineer. Another 10% DR from barkskin and armor can get me 50% right off the rip.
@wholesomegamer I've also been trying to swap to Engineer as the prime archetype. Man I got to tell you, it puts out so much damage as long as you can dodge effectively.
Hunter + Alchemist. Alchemist has a skill that places a field that continually heals you, and revives you and allies. Hunter's passive that allows you to extend ability duration by shooting weak points allows this field to stay on the field for a long time.
I went hunter as my main and i accidentally unlocked medic second 😂. I wanted hunter gunslinger but i think medic was a good outcome. I feel once i unlock medic the game has become much easier
Maybe I'm crazy, but Challenger main Medic Sub seems like a most OP thing imaginable. the damage perks give 15% crit and 60% dmg in close range. Heavy armor and damage reduction of challenger with the medic recovery should make you nearly immortal WITH a auto revive too. On the skills with shield and either juggernaut or rampage depending on the fight for massive burst damage together or longevity with alternating the two. Certainly has me the most excited :D.
This is what I’m running. Feels bad initially, then UNSTOPPABLE later. I thought I picked wrong at first, then after a few boss fights with revive I didn’t want to switch ever. Picked up medic second for utility and began to love to game again.
Oh also, any class can get at least some healing by getting the Healing Shot mod as their first thing at the start of the game. You can shoot it at a wall and then go pick it up and it will heal you!
I started out being a hunter. But ended up being a challenger/medic. Pretty solid solo starter combination. The tommy gun carried me the rest of the game
As a solo guy who plays with two friends when they have time, loving Handler so far. Only other class I've unlocked is Alchemist, so I have set it as my secondary. I'm still new (just finished a world and a trip into the Laby - god that cube boss was insane!), but I'm liking Handler/Alchemist so far and looking at what it can become, I think it could be really strong for me and allows me to be a super support for my friends when they can get online and play. I'm not sure about that bit about unlocking and equipping skills. Like I have Guard Dog and Support Dog, and Stoneskin Vial. I could pick either of the Handler skills, but not both. I think you just unlock them at levels 1, 5, and 10, but you can only choose one from each of the classes. So you can have one Handler and one Alchemist of any of the three you've learned. And yeah, long as you heal your pupper, he's amazing. :D
The Handler is great, but eats Trait points, because you have to skill "Rugged". I have some insane ideas for the Alchemist, there is a ring that increases Skill duration by 25% and the last skill (yes, you unlock them simply by leveling) prevents you from dying, so a lot of potential for solo players there!
@@wholesomegamer Oooh, that sounds amazing. Not sure what the Rugged skill is yet, but I'll have to keep that in mind when I find it. And maybe I'll luck into finding that ring at some point, as that DOES sound pretty interesting.
This video is a little outdated. Updated Version available! : th-cam.com/video/6xT5GDXCDSc/w-d-xo.html Some additional pieces of information: - one of the additional archetypes you can find in the game is the "Explorer" and based around looting and moving faster - another additional archetype is the "Summoner", I think you can guess what that class is about - Alchemist is the last available class, specializes in powerful buffing Vials and consumable potency Small correction after playing the game now first hand. Despite the Wiki still stating, and I quote: "They are split into five different groups depending on their function: Prime, Damage, Team, Utility, and Relic. Players will only be able to equip one Perk per Perk Type." From what I see in the game perks DO stack on each other, so you will have two damage, team, utility and relic perks active. I will keep an eye on that if it is intended or will change and update this section if necessary. So for now ignore the information at 01:20
This was a great video, very informative. That's a like and subscribe from me. If I had to provide one bit of constructive criticism though I would like you to mention that this is theory crafting and hasn't been personally play tested (from what I understand reading in the comments about you not receiving a early access key). I say this because I play games like MTG and LoL, both of which people analyse upcoming patches and card/champion drops. While it is very important to do this, it's only from actually getting hands on with the new balance/systems and looking at the stats that solid conclusions can be made.
@@cynicle Yep, thank you - see my solo player guide where I included some better testing. I was hard pressed to not fall to much behind the big channels, so I had to compromise. Learned my lessons and thank you honestly for the feedback!
I'm thinking handler + summoner might be a nice companion build setup. Have healing grenade mod, and you can launch heals forward to your summons + dog. And you kite from ranged. Run the howl that aggros, so your dog is your tank, your companions are DPS, and you heal them and do DPS/DoT from ranged. Seems like a nice casual setup. The question is how does the AI truly work? Is the dog dumb and do your companions act intelligently? Not sure yet. But I'm thinking I try a ranged handler/summoner mix.
Thanks for being the only person to mention that you dont get more than one skill of each type. I'm going to pass on this one. What is even the point of having classes and archtypes. Should have just thrown everything on a skill tree or something. What a waste.
@@EternalGaze8 Decided to start with GS since you probably need to unlock it the proper way after. Going to get the doggy right after. I am playing on the first difficulty but I am doing fine.
@@xxan84 Was thinking the exact same set up. I want to go gunslinger first because it's supposed to take way longer to unlock. How long does it take to unlock the second class though?
@@deathx88 To unlock the second class, you need 10 skill points that you find in books left by bosses or just random items on the map. If you explore enough, you can do it on the first planet (I did). Then you need to actually buy the items from people in town (google info on where to buy it) but only for the start classes, the others need unlocking and takes a lot of time. After you buy the item you go craft it to the same individual where you first chose your starter class. By the time you get to have 10 skill points, you will also have the money to buy the item and the money + mats needed to craft it IF you don't waiste your money/mats. Haviung a secondary class is a big bost in power, I recomand focusing on that over anything else.
Dang . I bought the ultimate edition because I wanted gunslinger but now I’m changing my mind . I’m a die hard souls fan . I’m thinking challenger and maybe handler I don’t know I’m playing solo, so I’m really torn I want to have medic, but I also like the dog so but I really like melee combat
If anyone wants to go for a mage type build then Archon(primary) and Invader(secondary) works well for me. Both has good mod and ability damage and cooldown buffs.
Medic really works wonders. Summoner is strong but has to be unlocked, the video was more meant for a first playthrough. But I agree, Summoner is cool!
I'm very interested in Challenger as my main class because it was kinda tough to get a tanky melee build fully online in Remnant 1 without very specific gear. Secondary class will be kind of up to what I feel I need most when the time comes, but both Handler and Gunslinger are on my radar.
I plan to to multiclass+challenger. I want to use the dog to draw aggro/ increase my damage. Also the handler perk that increases damage wirhin range of the dog would benefical i think. Warstop with attack dog or ramapage and attack dog seem pretty cool
I gotta say, I disagree with Die Hard being less flexible than Handler’s revive Yes, Die Hard has a longer cooldown, but it also isn’t dependent on your relic charges When your dog (aka the good boy) revives you, it uses up a relic charge If you have no relic charges, then The Good Boy cannot pick you up when you’re downed For this reason, I think Medic’s ability to more easily retain relic charges is a good match with Handler Honestly, Medic can benefit any class As far as secondary archetypes go, it’s the king Another good combination imo is Challenger+Medic Pop that shield, pop that rampage and rip and tear
Agree on Medic as best secondary class for solo players. Relic charges go quickly up to 5, so I don´t think that is an issue. But the reliability of the Challengers revive is for sure a solid argument. i think both versions have their up- and downsides. Yeah, Challenger & Medic was in the end my first combo. Pretty insane on Survivor difficulty and very good at Veteran so far.
I think Challenger & Medic or the other way round will be pretty dope in terms of survivability. If you don´t like the Handler I would try to incorporate one of those classes into you build.
First I was set on Hunter-Handler for solo play, but now I'm more focused on challenger-medic. The melee combat should be a lot better than in its predecessor.
@@wholesomegamer challenger, handler and medic, in any one combination will be cool. I'm also really tempted at the handler-medic combination. Keep making more videos of Remnant 2, thanks 😊
@@cynicle This video was based after the starting classes were revealed, including perks, skills and so on. There was also a 2h Dev-Gameplay session, the wiki and some other videos about the class system. Basically I gathered all available material on the market and wrapped it up nicely and digestible for those who didn´t want to search through hours of material. I think it turned out well enough to give new players a good basis on which they can make a good decision when selecting the starting class.
Would Gunslinger and Medic work? I definitely want to go Gunslinger first but I don't know what the second should be. I just want good damage but also some survival. I'm gonna play with a friend he's playing Hunter.
You have to pick Handler as primary or secondary class to access the dog companion. There are weapon mods that grant temporary companions like in Remnant 1.
That combo will work great when playing alone! The Challengers damage perk is bound to being close to enemies, so think about using a Shotgun and later the Enigma handgun you can find pretty early once you reach the labyrinth. The first 2-3 levels will be much easier with the dog then with other classes, once you spend 10 trait points the second class slot will unlock. Enjoy the ride and take your time to really search every corner of the maps...lots of hidden areas, extra bosses and stuff to find 😀
Lol you think just like me handler x challenger is going to be my go to. I think handler x any other class is pretty good since it’s primary perk is so good.
@@wholesomegamer I feel like the handlers self revive skill is so good. And today in a couple reviews I saw a couple items that increase the chances of relics not being used which will greatly improve the survivability of the class
what about Challenger and Engineer? Putting up turrets and then dancing around ghe enemy chipping away at their health? would that be viable as solo play?
That combo is one of the sturdiest and best solo combinations. Engineer has to be unlocked first, this video was meant to help people on their very first journey. But unlocking the Engineer and bringing it up to 10 (unlocking the Fortify Trait for all classes) should be your top priority :-D
@@johnynoway9127 Yep, some bosses fly around or you are fighting from a plattform...it is a shooter after all, melee is very strong and can be build around, but you can´t defeat the game with a pure melee setup
In Remnant 1 I liked very much the companions (two skulls). Their dmg was really good and super useful in fights. That's why my first choice is Handler. I don't want to put away a grate support dog. For secondary class? Maybe Challenger or Medic or Gunslinger. Hard to say. I don't even know when do we have the opportunity the set a secondary class. Until we stuck for our primary so it must be very useful. I like the Challenger but the 10 min cooldown for revive is... like it never exist, it's too long. Cannot rely on it. But it has so many other skills so as a secondary class would be nice. Only one day to start but I still cannot decide which to start with.
It's been confirmed that there is a summoner archetype. So, I think it makes sense to run handler + summoner to have a dog + skulls (or whatever summon you end up choosing). And running a kite build where you launch the healing grenade mod up to your companions to keep them topped off and keep your distance. Let dog get aggro through his howl/commands, summon more pets, and observe from a distance (send heals, dps, dots, apply status effects, etc). Seems like a chill, casual class where your pets are the main attraction.
@@John-vm2sq I ended up with Gunlinger after all. It turned out that if I do not choose Gunlinger as a starting class I lost it and I can get it much later int he game, as non preorder can. So Gunslinger it is, it's really good class, I can tell, did not regret it at all. Now I am on level 8 with it and I have 11 trait point so I can buy other archetype. No I am stuck with a decision what to choose for secondary archetype: Handler, Hunder or Engineer. Handler has a companion, Hunter's focus skill of Hunter combine with Gunslinger Bulletstrom seem to a heavy DPS choice and Engineer has a turrent. And I still do not have the Summoner as I started in N'erud. Moreover everything requires Scrap, lot's of scrap. I need to farm a little bit after finishing the first World. This game is phenomenal!
Does this game have perks like destiny 2, for shorter cooldowns on abilitys, are we gonna find a ring or amulet for eg: that reduces invis cooldown by 20% ?
You have Traits that act like that, for example Expertise which lowers all you cooldowns or Vigor to increase base health. You have 4 ring slots, which all provide utility enhancements and an amulet which is supposed to enhance mainly damage skills. On top you have the 2 active class skills and the weapon mod from your active weapon (think "Ash of War" from Elden Ring) and a modifier slot for each weapon, that changes or tweaks your weapon. And unlike Destiny all freely available and easy to change with no paywalls or excessive grinds 😀
I took medic class. Have alchemist as second with ability to have 20% faster fire rate while skill is activated. Have hot shot, have self heal, have ring that lets me not die, but get 1hp priod to death and STILL cannot beat last boss on Veteran. What's wrong with me?
Nothing wrong with you, the game is hard and the last boss is quite the mess with the plethora of stuff that is going on. You could test the Paladin setup I have on my channel and in general I would throw stuff around to show what works. I fell you, the last boss is really something else and you have to dodge a LOT of shit and memorize the mechanics, despite having a high survivability setup.
@@wholesomegamer I can pass first part boss without single hit, but second one... I don't know, even no problem memorizing what awaits for me when he swings and return to second dimension, then back to first with almost always perfect dodge, but he still finds a way to kill me 😂🤦 Thanks for emphasizing though lol. Tried to find sun amulet in Imperial garden for additional damage with fire, but cannot find it since my map is different than all others. The handler would give you the option to slot him in the first slot for a revive option when needed. The dog also applies bleed, which can be abused with some rings/amulets to boost damage. The dog also holds up great on the first two difficulties. The Medic has the super strong shield and Triage is very helpful, also you have more Trait points to spend, because Handler needs to invest into Rugged and the archetype Trait is useless. Both archetypes will work great for solo players. The Handler might get the edge for the dog constantly distracting enemies, making it a lot easier to focus on mechanics and learning the basics first.
@@ivanchoikp Yes, but "endgame" here is really at least finished the campaign once and start to acquire the tons of weapons, additional classes and so on...just today they found another hidden class, the Archon 😀. The Paladin is ready to finish the campaign easily, at least it did it for me.
The video was targeted for people on their first playthrough. So the classes you have to unlock are not mentioned. But for later I think the Alchemist has some fantastic skills and the same universal damage perk as the Medic, which makes it an excellent secondary class. The Handler would work very well, because the buffs can be applied to you and your dog.
@@wholesomegamer thank you! Hopefully its decent! Seems like medic handler is just the best but I like alchemist. Any other classes you think would go better with alchemist?
Yes, that is an awesome combination. In your first playthrough you will have to unlock the Engineer first, so it is not available right from the start.
I like the Hunter, but I am not good at hitting weakspots in a reliable fashion. It is the best by far if you are ok with being more a "glass canon" and believe in "offense is the best defense" 😀
I think for the first playthru, while I learn the game and stuff, the Handler to start is a no-brainer. It feels a little TOO meta, since the class was clearly designed for solo players, but I don't care. I like pet classes in other games so this is an easy choice. For secondary class, I think the choice between medic and challenger will depend on whether I end up playing CQC or not, and whether I suck horribly (and thus need more healing) or not.
Nah I stick with Hunter as my main and Gunslinger as my second. If anything dies so fast it doesnt matter how much health you have. Worst case face tank with Leto Mark 2
@@wholesomegamer It's not necessarily as glass canon. But if you use the last active perk of the gunslinger, bullet storm and the first one of the hunter. Oh boy. Use something like the Chicago Typewriter with the hot shot mod and the enemy health bar drains. Fast. It's pretty nuts. Try it out. It's fun. Also your active hunter perk never runs out with that. You can extend it so long and the DPS is just insane
@@wholesomegamer Just a tip. The hunter is NOT meant for single shot weapons. Stuff like the SMG or Chicago Typewriter pairs super well with it. Because you can hit crits and weak spots so easy and it deals so much damage. The archetype is very misleading.
Rampage from Challenger seems like a good addition for the Gunslinger. With a Challenger-Gunslinger setup you could keep the revive every 10min. from the Challenger and use the damage perk from the Gunslinger to turn it into a ranged setup. I think that would be even better, the Gunslingers prime perk is far less attractive then the free revive from the Challanger and you can still use all skills and perks from the Gunslinger.
Make that Challenger/Gunslinger, the revive from the Challengers prime perk can save you backside and the ammo reserve from the Gunslinger is not that impressive.
All your restriction you mentioned at the beginning is wrong , I got everything from challenger + medic including both archetype trait. The only thing you dont get is your secondary archetype prime perk

@@wholesomegamer i randomly just pick that setup and turn out it was amazing lol
Excellent. How do you think a Handler - Summoner combo would go? For extra survivability, slot the Soul Link ring, the Siphoner, Rugged, Blood Bond, Revivalist, Regrowth and Triage Traits. Cheers, Harry.
The combo has great synergies...the pet AI is not the best though, so you have to live with that.
Gunslinger with medic or handler I think, but other combinations sounds good as well.
Im rly liking Gunslinger + Engineer. Gunslinger for extra ammo stockpile and the instant reload on skill use. Engineer simply for turret and armor bonus. The turret does dmg when you can focus on learning the boss 'dance'
Engineer is a really cool designed class!
I’m thinking a Handler/gunslinger build would fit my play style. I like this different options for the dog for support and then I can focus on DPS myself
I am looking into the Handler/Gunslinger myself..
i think gunslinger and medic might go well gunslinger to make sure u have ammo and good damge output while having the medic part to make sure u dont die seems good
Healing Shield is a fantastic skill for every solo player!
@@wholesomegamer would gunslinger and handler work great together also can u still get the dog if your a different class and pick handler as a second class ?
@@JohnFluffy Yes, you can get the dog, but not the revive form the Handlers prime perk. Handler and Medic are both excellent secondary classes for solo players.
@@wholesomegamer fantastic
Thanks for this video! Exactly what I was looking for.
So many combos just sound crazy to me. Hunter/Gunslinger sounds ridiculous. Challenger/handler sounds unstoppable. Medic/challenger sounds immortal. I cannot wait to see all the Archetypes we can find in the world.
Oh yeah, I am very curious what hidden archetypes are out there!
Personally, thinking about trying Challenger + Medic for my first solo playthrough.
Should have, probably, the highest survivability.
Yep, pretty insane. Watch my Paladin midgame build video...I used it for my first campaign playthrough.
I think Hunter-Handler is a great combo, especially later in the game!
That is the next combo I want to try!
The Hunter prime perk only prolongs Hunter skills, not skills from other classes.
Good but that requires you to hit those weak points consistently. Good for bosses but I’m not sure it’s good for mobs
I went hunter as my main and i accidentally unlocked medic second 😂. I wanted hunter gunslinger but i think medic was a good outcome. I feel once i unlock medic the game has become much easier
Yeah, if you play on your own Medic is very strong, especially early on. Challenger is also well rounded, but starts to shine a little later.
Me: Medic Main + Handler= Combat Medic. My sister: Challenger + Handler= Swat Team. Alone we slay, together we can't friggin die!!
Yeah, those two classes compliment each other a lot when playing alone and you want a Shotgun / CQC setup.
This is what I’m running. Feels bad initially, then UNSTOPPABLE later. I thought I picked wrong at first, then after a few boss fights with revive I didn’t want to switch ever. Picked up medic second for utility and began to love to game again.
😀- Yeah, funny enough I have the "UNSTOPPABLE Solo Build" video up right now.
Oh also, any class can get at least some healing by getting the Healing Shot mod as their first thing at the start of the game. You can shoot it at a wall and then go pick it up and it will heal you!
just shoot at the floor
I started out being a hunter. But ended up being a challenger/medic. Pretty solid solo starter combination. The tommy gun carried me the rest of the game
I love the Tommy Gun :-)
medic (main) - challenger (secondary) i think will be a great combo!
I play exactly that! Fantastic synergies - video about that will follow.
@@SubduedRadical remnant2.wiki.fextralife.com/Rugged 🙂
option 1 for me, Hunter - Handler Option 2 Gunslinger - Medic
Awesome video, I am just getting into the game. Question, in the hatchery how do you get those mobs off you if they attach to your arm.
I got rid of them with a melee attack. The Enigma gun´s aoe might work to.
Thx for the great video! I think im gonna go Challenger/Handler. Love me some shotgun action :D
Very useful video thank you ! Thinking about a melee challenger/alchemist, any idea if alchemist/challenger would be better ?
For that combo I would clearly think Challenger / Alchemist. The Alchemists prime perk is far less compelling then the Challengers one.
@@wholesomegamer alright ty !
This video is a little outdated. Updated Version available! : th-cam.com/video/6xT5GDXCDSc/w-d-xo.html
Some additional pieces of information:
- one of the additional archetypes you can find in the game is the "Explorer" and based around looting and moving faster
- another additional archetype is the "Summoner", I think you can guess what that class is about
- Alchemist is the last available class, specializes in powerful buffing Vials and consumable potency
Small correction after playing the game now first hand. So for now ignore the information at 01:20
Im gonna go gunslinger and handler for the dog for fun
I'm gonna go challenger/handler prob until I find summoner, then go summoner/handler (depending on what the summoner abilities and perks are like).
@@wholesomegamer Good luck with your channel. It's refreshing seeing the passion from smaller creators.
Yep, the companion AI is a uncertain factor. But full blown summoner builds worked really well in Remnant 1.
Thanks for being the only person to mention that you dont get more than one skill of each type. I'm going to pass on this one. What is even the point of having classes and archtypes. Should have just thrown everything on a skill tree or something. What a waste.
You miss out, the game is fantastic. And regarding the perks, plz read my sticky comment 😉
Great info!! Thank you very Much
Gunslinger + medic has been my go to since I got the 2nd archetype
Medic is a fantastic Subclass
Going to do medic hunter, invisible with heals, and the support hunter vision thingy
Nice combo, but you can only use Shroud every 90 sec. for 15sec. in this combo and will not be able to prolong it´s duration (Hunter Prime Perk)
Am playing handler, engineer and having a lot of good luck with this on nightmare
Another combo I will make a build for!
This is great info, just what I needed! Going to try a handler + gunslinger.
Those two classes are a chore to unlock, currently working on the Invader.
Summoner/just about anything swrved me well during the campaign solo. Medic came in clutch on the final.boss though
Medic really works wonders. Summoner is strong but has to be unlocked, the video was more meant for a first playthrough. But I agree, Summoner is cool!
@@wholesomegamer yeah i got yaesha as my first zone so I got it very early
I have never played the original. I want to do gunslinger primary summoner secondary.
I'm very interested in Challenger as my main class because it was kinda tough to get a tanky melee build fully online in Remnant 1 without very specific gear. Secondary class will be kind of up to what I feel I need most when the time comes, but both Handler and Gunslinger are on my radar.
I am still torn between Challenger or Handler as base class.
@@wholesomegamer Iwas thinking at Challenger + Handler too instead of viceversa! Heavy armor, a companion and survivability sounds really appealing!
I plan to to multiclass+challenger. I want to use the dog to draw aggro/ increase my damage. Also the handler perk that increases damage wirhin range of the dog would benefical i think. Warstop with attack dog or ramapage and attack dog seem pretty cool
Handler-Challenger or Handler-Medic...so hard to choose 🙈
Challenger medic is fun. Legit don’t die. Get picked back up, and I’m always full up
Yep, my first char that is now in midgame and can facetank nearly everythink.
I’m thinking either gunslinger-medic or challenger-medic.
I gotta say, I disagree with Die Hard being less flexible than Handler’s revive
Yes, Die Hard has a longer cooldown, but it also isn’t dependent on your relic charges
When your dog (aka the good boy) revives you, it uses up a relic charge
If you have no relic charges, then The Good Boy cannot pick you up when you’re downed
For this reason, I think Medic’s ability to more easily retain relic charges is a good match with Handler
Honestly, Medic can benefit any class
As far as secondary archetypes go, it’s the king
Another good combination imo is Challenger+Medic
Pop that shield, pop that rampage and rip and tear
Agree on Medic as best secondary class for solo players. Relic charges go quickly up to 5, so I don´t think that is an issue. But the reliability of the Challengers revive is for sure a solid argument. i think both versions have their up- and downsides.
Yeah, Challenger & Medic was in the end my first combo. Pretty insane on Survivor difficulty and very good at Veteran so far.
So basically it’s always some combination with the dog. I guess that makes sense. Though I was hoping to find some variety in that.
And the Challenger has the revive every 10 minutes. I am also thinking of going Challenger & Medic or Challenger & Handler for my first run.
@@wholesomegamer challenger, handler and medic, in any one combination will be cool. I'm also really tempted at the handler-medic combination. Keep making more videos of Remnant 2, thanks 😊
@@wholesomegamer I'm confused. How did you make this video if you haven't started your first run?
Healing Shield form the Medic works very well for every class and can offset the more squishy Gunslinger. So yeah, i think that is a viable combo.

Thingking to go with Handler and Gunslinger. Or Gunslinger first.
Can't wait to play with random peeps and have some great fun
I will go full solo for the first playthroughs, but will definitely also check out the co-op experience.
Handler/Engineer is beast.
Yep, I will certainly make a build for that!
if u pick class other than the handler, how do u get the dog?
You have to pick Handler as primary or secondary class to access the dog companion. There are weapon mods that grant temporary companions like in Remnant 1.
I'm new to this game and I want to go with handler + challenger any tips on how to build this combo ?
That combo will work great when playing alone! The Challengers damage perk is bound to being close to enemies, so think about using a Shotgun and later the Enigma handgun you can find pretty early once you reach the labyrinth. The first 2-3 levels will be much easier with the dog then with other classes, once you spend 10 trait points the second class slot will unlock. Enjoy the ride and take your time to really search every corner of the maps...lots of hidden areas, extra bosses and stuff to find 😀
Gunslinger and medic for ammo and healing. But I really want to play handler
In the end I will level them all. Every class seems fun in it´s own way so far.
Gunslinger- Hunter or Gunslinger- Challenger for my solo run.
So pure glass-canon or the more sturdy approach 😄
Beautiful video ◕‿↼ I love it!!! ❤️
Thank you...check out the updated version, this video was based on very early informations :-)
What exactly are you NOT getting from the secondary class? Looking into the menu / inventar it seems you get literally everything from both classes?
Lol you think just like me handler x challenger is going to be my go to. I think handler x any other class is pretty good since it’s primary perk is so good.
Yeah, Handler is really hard to ignore as a solo-player. Handler-Challenger or Challenger-Handler are both pretty cool.
@@wholesomegamer I feel like the handlers self revive skill is so good. And today in a couple reviews I saw a couple items that increase the chances of relics not being used which will greatly improve the survivability of the class
Do you have to be a secondary class? Or can you go deep medic?
You could stick with one class, but why? The second class levels on it´s own and you can still use mainly or only the Medics skills.
Challenger + Handler. Juggernaut + Support Dog. Ass kicking melee almost all bosses
And accessible very early for a fresh player.
Great guide very helpful thanks 😊
what about Challenger and Engineer?
Putting up turrets and then dancing around ghe enemy chipping away at their health?
would that be viable as solo play?
That combo is one of the sturdiest and best solo combinations. Engineer has to be unlocked first, this video was meant to help people on their very first journey. But unlocking the Engineer and bringing it up to 10 (unlocking the Fortify Trait for all classes) should be your top priority :-D

Hunter/handler sounds pretty legit
The revive every 90 sec. from the Handler is hard to ignore as a solo player and the class can be combined so well with the others!
Im new to this game so I will choose Handler and Medic 🤪
very good combination!

Lemme guess, in Remnant I you played with the slayer set, the sniper and the x4 crit ring
@@Jmarinogomez I don't remember what set I used, but I did use the ring. I also used the hunting rifle most of the game until I found out about the beam rifle, then I used that mostly.
Gunslinger... secondary medic or handler? 🤔
Since im go play solo will try Handle+Medic, to see if i can survivea bit more
Handler or Challenger with the Medic as subclass are super effective for solo players.
challenger +gunslinger all the way
Yeah the Challenger is a fantastic base class that synergizes very well with a lot of other archetypes.

What about handler/alchemist?
The video was targeted for people on their first playthrough. So the classes you have to unlock are not mentioned. But for later I think the Alchemist has some fantastic skills and the same universal damage perk as the Medic, which makes it an excellent secondary class. The Handler would work very well, because the buffs can be applied to you and your dog.

I want to try alchemist + medic.
Hunter is actually the best by far for solo. As long as you shoot for weak spots you permanently see all enemies.
I like the Hunter, but I am not good at hitting weakspots in a reliable fashion. It is the best by far if you are ok with being more a "glass canon" and believe in "offense is the best defense" 😀
I’m thinking explorer and medic or explorer handler
The Explorer needs to be unlocked first, so you can´t start with that as primary archetype at the beginning.
thank you and question would i get explorer first or dual class
I know you get one around mid game but I'm not sure if explorer is random or not
@@stardrago7908 I don´t know yet if the additional archetypes are guaranteed finds in a playthrough or can occur randomly.
Both secondary classes offer a lot when combined with the Handler.
I went with handler/hunter
Nah I stick with Hunter as my main and Gunslinger as my second. If anything dies so fast it doesnt matter how much health you have. Worst case face tank with Leto Mark 2
I always have nothing but respect for the glass-cannon enjoyer 👍
@@wholesomegamer It's not necessarily as glass canon. But if you use the last active perk of the gunslinger, bullet storm and the first one of the hunter. Oh boy. Use something like the Chicago Typewriter with the hot shot mod and the enemy health bar drains. Fast. It's pretty nuts. Try it out. It's fun.
Also your active hunter perk never runs out with that. You can extend it so long and the DPS is just insane
@@requiemagent3014 Hunter is for sure one of my next archetypes to level.
@@wholesomegamer Just a tip. The hunter is NOT meant for single shot weapons. Stuff like the SMG or Chicago Typewriter pairs super well with it. Because you can hit crits and weak spots so easy and it deals so much damage. The archetype is very misleading.
I’m thinking gunslinger x challenger
Rampage from Challenger seems like a good addition for the Gunslinger. With a Challenger-Gunslinger setup you could keep the revive every 10min. from the Challenger and use the damage perk from the Gunslinger to turn it into a ranged setup. I think that would be even better, the Gunslingers prime perk is far less attractive then the free revive from the Challanger and you can still use all skills and perks from the Gunslinger.
Thank you for the insight
Im thinking gunslinger and challenger. Make myself a tanky dps
Make that Challenger/Gunslinger, the revive from the Challengers prime perk can save you backside and the ammo reserve from the Gunslinger is not that impressive.

youre also missing alchemist, summoner, explorer, invader, engineer, and archon. you should just redo this video.
This video is meant as a starting point for completely new players, that simply have no access at that time to the unlock-able archetypes. Also see my sticky post for the correction of the above mentioned mistake. At that time even the wiki stated the information as presented.
I do appreciate your heads up though, after all the updates and patches I should consider an updated version of this guide. Thank you for the feedback.
