After chasing the morning New Tygart Valley Flyer out of Elkins, I heard a surprising leslie horn in the distance which turned out to be the WVC Freight extra. Leading the train was a GP9 and my personal favorite recently acquired GP8 #3. Unfortunately, I missed out on most of the time that #3 was leading but it was still a very lucky and rare opportunity to chase this not often documented line. I also chased the tourist train running empty back to Belington while the freight interchanged at Tygart Valley Junction (which is very hard to get to) up the line.
I visited the Elk River GPs at Gassaway some years ago. Nice to see at least 1 of the old Geeps still at work!
They plan to eventually restore all of them to operation.
The 6530 and another 6500 were purchased from a quarry plant road near Millville, WV a few years ago. Although not the original paint, the numbers are the original B&O numbers. Still has the original control stand, 24RL air, and runs long hood forward like the Good Lord intended.
I think you have bragging rights as having uploaded the first video of ELKR 3 in operation on the DGVR.
Just an fyi, the interchange at Tygart Junction is not CSX, it is the Appalachian and Ohio (A&O).
Yep thats right my bad was looking at an old map
Great catches excellent captures and nice video
Fantastic video!
its like the norther states Hartwell railroad
Nice!
My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚂🚃🚄🚅🚇🚈🚉🚊🚝🚞🚋🛤 they're one of his favorite things in the whole world 🌎! He especially likes F Units, GP9's, and bl2's but he hopes that real soon or sooner than soon that the rusty E unit at 13:15 will be restored to operation and the steam locomotive behind it because he loves steam locomotives and E units too.
