    Words:MIKU KOBATO
    Music & Arrangement:BAND-MAID
English translator of Japanese lyrics: S. R. Wallis
Peering out of the window, spin the roulette!
When I say ‘go’, open your eyes,
Dance in the palm of my hand!
    Shake, body, dance
    Shake, body, dance
    Shake, body, oh
It’s even more than I imagined,
I want to feel more, delight me!
To the unfurling world, to the unknown world,
    Announce your arrival!
    You say, ‘No, No, No’.
You know, it's not a joke.
    I wanna believe that.
    Who knows the truth?
    So, keep running.
    Don’t stop, keep running!
    You see, ‘Hello, Hello, Hello’,
    ‘No, No, No’.
    Be silent! Follow me up!
    Call out! Follow me up!
Hold fast, reach for the best.
Into uncharted places with unknown things.
    Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello.
My path is hindered, the situation changes.
Close to the edge, it's just right for me!
    Hesitation is the greatest enemy.
    created you, life
    created you, life
    created you
    Oh no!
It’s on a knife edge, are you ready
    To go through with it?
    Just that. Get a lap x 5
    Play back × 3
    Just bring it!!
    No, No, No, No
    Bite down on the pain!
    Take over the world
    No, No, No.
You know, it's not a joke.
    I wanna believe that.
    Who knows the truth?
    So, keep running.
    Don’t stop, keep running!
    You see, ‘Hello, Hello, Hello’,
    ‘No, No, No’.
    Be silent! Follow me up!
    Call out! Follow me up!
Hold fast, reach for the best.
Into uncharted places with unknown things.
    Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello.
Raise your colors, fly the flag.
    Our pulses race together.
Even the shadows turn to light. Let the world spin!
    We live in the present.
I need to be true to myself,
    Announce it to the world!
    Don't let me down.
    You say ‘No, No, No’.
You know, it's not a joke.
    I wanna believe that.
    Who knows the truth??
    So, keep running.
    Don’t stop, keep running!
    You see, ‘Hello, Hello, Hello’,
    ‘No, No, No’.
    Be silent! Follow me up!
    Call out! Follow me up!
Hold fast, reach for the best.
Into uncharted places with unknown things.
    Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello.
Making the sound of tomorrows to come,
Make your day. And it’s not over yet.
    Destiny of soul!
    Where are you?
Even if you are far away,
I’ll strain to catch your faint words
‘make your choice, I’ll lead you on’.
Make it echo throughout the world,
    ‘Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello’.

Glad that you liked the words of the song written by Band-Maid's brilliant chief lyricist, Miku Kobato, who is the band's founder and is the back-up vocalist as well as the rhythm guitarist. Miku is a master of utilizing words and phrases that appeal to both Japanese and English-speaking audiences. She says that sometimes English words or short phrases may convey a complex Japanese concept more simply and will fit better into the songs cadence and rhythm structure. Her major themes involve having confidence in oneself to overcome the obstacles in life, always strive to become a better and more self-reliant person through effort and hard work, and to enjoy living life responsibly to the fullest of one's abilities.

    • @himbo754

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 57 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive 10 year back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and bad-ass musicians to boot.

  • @Parker--
    @Parker-- 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +29

Band-Maid is the best band this short century. This is the band to dive into. The most diversity of a catalogue you're going to find as well. They have a song for every combination of rock, metal, punk and pop. Check out Rinne MV, Blooming MV, Puzzle Live and a ton of others.

    Woohoo! 🎉 Maidiacs Incoming!
Welcome to the best thing to happen in the hard rock space in a generation. No joke. I’m an old blues rock guy. Grew up on Rush, Van Halen, SRV.
Excellent commentary beginning @ 10:52. A highlight for me to hear you notice the difference between cookie cutter songs and ones that were composed by musicians. I assure you that we are kindred spirits there. And I promise you that the more Band Maid you hear, the more respected you will feel as a music listener. The Maids don’t cut corners. They put more work into their bridge transitions than most people put into entire recordings.
If you have a wide range of musical tastes? Band Maid is like hitting the musical lottery. They are genre-blending, bending, musical shapeshifters.
My first live concert was KISS in 1978. My most recent was Band Maid last May.
Keep exploring! I’m along for the ride! 🚀 🎢

    • @mikeat2637

I agree completely, they are almost chimera-like in the way they use different parts of different genres to produce their signature sound. My first real live gig or concert was in 1959 when I saw Joey Dee and The Starlighters in Hoboken, New Jersey and haven't looked back since. I saw Band Maid once in 2022 and twice this year. They are the real deal and have brought back rock to what it once was.

The lyrics are written by Miku Kaboto, 2nd vocals, guitar. The main reason they mix English in is for lyric flow. Example the Japanese word for You has 3 syllables.
Band Maid has total control of their songs, from creation through to the song order on the album. 2023 is their 10 year anniversary year. Sold-out concerts all across the US plus they were a big Hit at Lollapalooza.

Agree about the extra bits making the performance memorable. Band Maid usually adds on extended parts to 3/4 songs each tour. An average concert has about 20 to 25 songs. The good and bad is they don't repeat the extras again after that tour. Their current tour features a work up of two songs back to back, Dice into Hate. There is a good quality clip from their Lollapalooza 2023 set floating around the net. I am sure you will enjoy it.

Band-Maid's 'running gag' is their plan for *World Domination* which they've alluded to long before they recorded "Domination".
Miku Kobato is the the band's primary lyricist and she is excellent at combining English and Japanese in interesting ways. In their early days their record label provided them with songs, but since 2015 they've been writing on their own and the music is definitely all the better for it.
Remember how the three members of RUSH never stopped learning how to better their craft? The five Maids do likewise, always practicing and learning new techniques.
Currently on the final leg of their tenth anniversary tour, this band has done some amazing things over the last ten years. Take a dive into the Band-Maid pigeon hole.

Compulsory music education at the primary school level in Japan. Most are required to master 2 instruments. At the High School level, the girls usually carry on with marching band, concert band, and, of course, club bands, i.e., Hard Rock, Metal, J-pop. The boys typically go to sports, but some stay with music. This here is the product of that legacy. Po! Enjoy your journey down the Pigeon hole, Po! 🦍🍌

Domination Live is a great place to start. There are heavier songs, there are lighter songs, but Domination is right in the middle of their repertoire. If you like Domination then you will like a lot of other Band-Maid songs. Which is good, because after ten years of Band-Maid (founded 2013) there are over 120 songs. For metalheads, try the Band-Maid double video "Manners/Black Hole" -- Manners is funky, groovy -- and Black Hole is their fastest, most chaotic, thrash-like song -- 120bpm. That video gives a great idea of their range.

Yeah, you might get some concise songs on a Band Maid album (record companies) but cram layers and layers of goodness into it. Then live, just hold onto your seat because they have no problem stretching things out. Saw them at a sold out theater in Atlanta in May. Crazy show that you could take your kids and grandkids to.

Welcome to the fandom! Best rock band in the world right now! BTW The Warning & Band Maid are big fans of each ohter!
Seen them play twice (this & last year). Each was like 2 hours. By far the best 2 concerts I've been to!
I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Puzzle (live)

Band-Maid is simply brilliant! Been going down the Pigeon Hole for several years now and can't get enough! A couple more all girl bands for you, Rolling Quartz out of South Korea and The Donna's late 90's American all girl band.

I am stunned by how good Band-Maid is, they are all virtuoso musicians. I recommend the video for Thrill, it was the one that broke the ice eight years ago. Second I like the live version of Freedom, a great song with amazing drum solo by Akane. Every song they play is fantastic!

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors from Tokyo University.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Frequently snacks between songs.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

You haven't heard anything yet. I think you should check out their two best instrumentals first to get a real idea of their musicianship. The first is the live official video of "Onset" and the official music video of "From Now On". Kanami, the lead guitarist and savant-like composer writes very complex and stunning compositions that rival any instrumental I've ever heard before. To say they are perfect is an understatement. After that, there is a whole galaxy of great hits that no current group has even come close to. Freedom, Real Existence, Manners, Dice, Don't You Dare, Rinne, Choose Me, Play, Black Hole, YOLO and a host of others. Try to get the live official videos as they are the best to listen to.

Japanese girl bands Band Maid, Lovebites, and Nemophila are bringing the fun back into rock 'n roll and heavy metal.
I like the way they're going away from the stereotypical black leather, angry girl, overly sexualized image of Western girl bands and just concentrate on playing, having fun, and improving their music.

Since you are now introduced to one of my three favorite Japanese Bands, consider this live cut from them. All of these Japanese bands are best live, anyway. In this cut we have Band Maid doing old school and then the 2nd song is super complex instrumentally. Manners and Black Hole:
    th-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/w-d-xo.html
My other two favorite Japanese bands are One Ok Rock and Wagakki Band. One Ok Rock is just lights out fantastic rock and roll. Wagakki mixes rock instruments and traditional instruments, being the most innovative band in Japan.
One Ok Rock: We Are, live

LOVEBITES , BAND MAID , NEMOPHILA , LONESOME BLUE, and a couple of new entries - PARADOXX , EAST OF EDEN , PALENEO , ROSELIA are all female bands and all are very good to amazing. keep exploring as there is a lot to cover.

Great job reacting! But there's something big missing from your repertoire. Wagakki Band. Wagakki means traditional Japanese instruments, and they play them to a rock beat. You won't believe the engineering/mixing in the band. To pull off such a hard rock vibe and sounds, and to clearly hear the flute and other instruments is just phenomenal. Here's a great live version of one of their more popular songs: th-cam.com/video/Xjwe9WyO8Qs/w-d-xo.html

Everyone is excited that you’ve found Band Maid but, since you said the word “metal” 100 times during the intro, I’m not sure they’ll hold your interest as much as some other groups you mentioned. The only actual rock band, like Band Maid, you mentioned was The Warning!
Band Maid, IMO, is the best hard rock band in decades and they delve into metal aspects, but they are decidedly rock. Their catalog as a whole is not overtly “metal”. Just sayin’… Now, if you love good rock music too, or more accurately, a mixture of whatever BM feels like putting into a song, you are set with Band Maid’s whole catalog, I think!

    • @jamesredman1263
      @jamesredman1263 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I would say they are metal-capable, but they don't camp out in any strict genre. Hard rock is their home base. Some or maybe a lot of their stuff could be considered Progressive Rock IMHO.
